Mirena had never been as nervous as she was right now. There was absolutely nothing that her past training could have done to prepare her for something like this.
"Oh, would you just do it already?"
Having Hattie breathing down her neck while she was trying to focus only made it worse. "Okay I don't know how they do it in MI6 but in my line of work, patience and precision is everything." The smaller woman sassed before turning her attention back to the tool in her hand. Hattie scoffed, continuing her watchful eye over Mirena's shoulder.
"What? Leering runs in the family or something?" Mirena asked, so fed up and nervous that her hand began shaking. "Oh just give it here. I'll do it." Hattie muttered, bumping the woman out of the way with her hip and taking the device from her. "Speaking of, where the hell is he?" Mirena asked, craning her neck to see the clock across the room. "I told you not to send those idiots off on recon but what do I know?" Hattie asked sarcastically. "I'm only part of MI6." She said, shooting a pointed look at Mirena who crossed her arms over her chest in defense. "Stop being shitty."
"I told you they'd be at each other's throats by the time we got back." a deep voice bellowed from the door. Mirena frowned at the large man who barged into the room, tearing Hattie's focus away. "Do you mind!? It's a delicate process." She mumbled the last bit, turning her face back to the mission at hand. Mirena smirked at Luke and gestured to the woman who just sassed him. "Come on, your majesty. Hand it over." He commanded with an open palm and a charming smile that made Hattie sigh as she handed over the device. "Now watch daddy take care of business." He charmed, making Hattie smile and Mirena gag.
"Get your giant meat paws off my sister, I ain't gonna tell you again," Deckard said with a threatening point of his finger before setting the supplies down. "Hello, gorgeous." He greeted Mirena, wrapping a strong arm around her middle and pulling her to him for a long kiss. "Alright, that's disgusting." Hattie shuddered, watching Luke continue to work.
"I know you aren't blatantly disrespecting me in-" Mirena started to argue only to be cut off by an overbearing Brit.
"Would you all knock it off?" Maggie asked annoyed as she came in from the patio. "Just fuckin' ice the cake and put the candles on already. We've been waiting on you lot for ages, haven't we?" She addressed the babe in her arms, her demeanor changing drastically as she looked down at the smiling face. "Alright, Grandma isn't allowed to babysit anymore. She's on the fast track to her first word being cunt." Deckard muttered into Mirena's ear, making her nod.
"Oh shove off. We have loads of fun together, huh ducky?" She said to the baby she bounced on her hip. "Alright, hand her over," Mirena chuckled, beckoning Maggie to hand over the small child. "I don't need anyone else conspiring with my daughter." She said, kissing her baby on the cheek as she cuddled her. "Who's conspiring? I'm not conspiring." Maggie shrugged, taking the glass of wine that her daughter held out for her. "Oh, that's not who she's talking about," Deckard said with a stern look towards Luke and Hattie.
"Us?!" They asked in unison. "Coming from a couple of career criminals, that's rich," Luke said, finishing off one of the last frosted roses. "We're the only reason this angel is going to be even a little bit of a functioning member of society, thank you," Hattie said matter-of-fact, brushing the dark locks out of the baby's face and pressing a kiss to her forehead. "See?" Rena said, looking to Maggie as she shifted which hip she held her baby. "Conspiring!" She accused the blonde who stuck out her tongue, making the child in Mirena's arms laugh. "You want to go grab the man of the hour?" She asked Deckard as he handed a Corona over to Luke.
"Of course, love." He said, pressing a kiss to Mirena's head and his daughter's making her smile. "He still upstairs?" He called as he headed for the landing near the front door. "Unless he suddenly figured out how to escape his crib and walk down the stairs? Yes.
She chuckled as Deck frowned at her facetious words. "That mouth is going to get you in trouble, Mama." He threatened. "How do you think I got here?" Mirena asked as she settled in on the living room couch, her baby lulling to sleep on her chest.
"Alright, again, disgusting," Hattie said from the kitchen, downing her glass of wine. "Shush." Maggie silenced her daughter as she stared lovingly at her grandbaby. "Look who decided to join the party," Luke said with a dazzling smile as Deck rounded the hall with his son. "Sleepy little thing." Hattie cooed down at the baby that was still trying to wake up.
"I swear to God, if I didn't make them stay awake at the same time, they'd never know the other existed." Mirena teased, gently nudging the child on her chest so she stayed awake long enough to attempt to blow out her candles. "I wish I didn't know Deck existed when I was little," Hattie said with a sigh, making Deckard lightly shove her. "Kidding!" She laughed, bracing herself on Luke's arm. "Alright hand that handsome sunofagun over," Luke said, setting his beer down and reaching for the baby. "Alright, Ollie, Now I know he looks like a giant baby but he's a man, alright? I promise." Deck whispered to his son before handing him over to the giant. "Thank God, you look like your mama," Luke mumbled into the baby's head, sending Mirena a wink from the kitchen. "Total smoke show."
"Alright, are we going to celebrate or what?" Maggie asked, getting impatient. "Come on, come on." She called, beckoning her daughter and the large man who held her grandson out to the decorated patio. "Mum, Dad, hurry up, they're birthday might last all day but this weather might not," Maggie said sternly, taking the cake out to where Hattie sat with Luke, bouncing Oliver on her lap. "Hey, Mama." Deckard leaned over the back of the couch and buried his face into the crook of Mirena's neck, trailing several appreciative kisses there. Mirena craned her neck towards Deckard and ran a hand down his stubbled face. "Hey, Daddy." She smiled, pressing a gentle but full kiss to his mouth. Deckard pulled her chin upward and ran his tongue against her bottom lip, making her smile into his touch until a small hand whacked at both of their faces.
"Excuse me, miss Emilia?" Mirena chuckled, looking down at her daughter who was staring up at her father. "Yeah yeah," Mirena rolled her eyes as she lifted the child up over to him. "Daddy's the best." She groaned, standing up and heading for the patio door. "You can't blame her. She gets her jealousy from you." Deckard noted, landing a prompt smack on her behind that made her daughter chuckle. "You're so going to get it later." She threatened back, pulling the door open. "Oh, I'm counting on it." Deckard winked as he squeezed past his wife, brushing up against her back as he did to join their family. Mirena looked around the table at the very unusual group and she couldn't help but smile. Hattie and Deckard were closer now than they were when they were little and Maggie was on her best behavior as soon as Emilia and Oliver were born. They wouldn't admit it to themselves but Deck and Luke were also becoming friends. "How you feeling, Cross?" Luke asked, throwing an arm around the back of her chair.
"Happy." Mirena smiled as she watched Hattie lift Oliver in the air, making the baby giggle. "Very happy." She said contently, patting Hobbs on the knee with her hand. "And it's Shaw." Mirena corrected, winking at her smiling husband.
