Gamelover41592: Indeed
Matt (Guest): Definitely one of my favorite fourth wall breaking moments.
Time for the battle for Mike's soul! Let's go!
"Hang in there Mike!" Zoey called out. "We're coming for you!"
"Dark Pit and Dark Zoey have gone up ahead," Viridi revealed, knowing that the two were wondering about it. Once inside, it was clear that the Chaos Vortex was definitely living up to its name. Several eyes appeared in front of them.
"AHHHHHHHH!" Everyone screamed, only for the eyes to suddenly disappear.
"Ahem. Yes. Well. I wasn't expecting that," Viridi admitted, doing her best to regain her composure.
"This feels like a drug trip," Zoey said, only to notice Pit giving her a side eye. "Uh, not that I know anything about that!"
"Zoey…" Pit began, only for a massive hand to suddenly appear, followed by several more. "...Ugh! Augh! Hey! Nice to meet ya! Hey! Augh! Whoa!"
"Hey! If we were in a later time period, this would not end well!" Zoey pointed out as a hand touched her chest. Then everything went dark. "I can't see anything!"
"O...K... Maybe the Chaos Vortex's batteries are dead," Pit reasoned.
"This place doesn't run on batteries, dingle brain!" Viridi admitted. "Anyway, it doesn't matter. You're going the right way. ...I think."
"What do you mean you think?" Pit questioned as he and Zoey sweatdropped.
"Don't worry your little head about it!" Viridi said quickly. Zoey and Pit shared a nervous glance over how she dodged the question.
Pit noticed something up ahead. "Good, a way out." They flew through the door, only to wind up back in the Vortex, only now he was pitch black. "Aw, man! This is my only tunic!" He whined.
"Don't be such a princess!" Viridi snapped at him.
"How is there a waterfall here?" Zoey questioned as they flew towards it. Pit was quick to realize what it was.
"Aw yeah, it's a hot spri—" He then flew straight into it, restoring his colors. "Blublublublub!"
"Well, you got your color back!" Zoey noted.
"I also got water up my nose," Pit whined.
"Pit, Zoey, are you two okay?" Palutena asked.
"Palutena, I told you I can handle this!" Viridi snapped. "You need to rest!"
"I know, but I really need to do this," Palutena began before taking a deep breath. "Pit, Zoey, I am so sorry about everything that has happened."
"But it's not your fault!" Zoey protested. "And if this is about Mike, he chose to sacrifice himself for you...I didn't think he would do that."
"I should have been able to sense the Chaos Kin well before it attacked us," Palutena countered. "I failed you, I failed the humans and I failed as a goddess." Everyone could hear the sadness and regret in her voice.
"Lady Palutena, the Chaos Kin took control of your body. As far as I am concerned, that makes it responsible for any and all crimes you committed under its control!" Pit declared.
"Look, I'M not even blaming you and that bug is getting ready to feast on my son's soul," Viridi chimed in. "So get over it and go rest! We're gonna need you for once we finish this so we can go kill Hades!"
"Surprised he hasn't shown up yet," Pit admitted.
"DO NOT JINX IT!" Everyone snapped at him. Palutena laughed.
"...Thank you all," She said, some of her old spirit restored. "Pit, Zoey good luck!"
"We've got this mom!" Zoey declared. "Don't worry about any-AH!" A monoeye suddenly appeared directly in front of her, although it thankfully wasn't attacking.
"Get out of our way!" Pit snapped at it, only for a second monoeye to appear. "I SAID get out of our way!" This time, the monoeyes flew off.
"We're getting close to the Chaos Kin," Viridi revealed. Pit and Zoey took the chance to share a high five. "But watch out for look-alikes!" As if on cue, a large swarm of Chaos Kin clones appeared, prompting Pit and Zoey to start blasting them out of the sky.
"Ugh, one of these things is more then enough already!" Zoey snapped as she shot two more down.
"You said it," Pit agreed as he blasted another clone.
"Is the Chaos Kin replicating itself? They seem exactly the same," Viridi wondered.
"If that's true, we're in big trouble!" Pit declared. As soon as they finished off, strange shadow symbols appeared.
"What are those?" Zoey asked. When the symbols faded, shadow clones of Pit and Zoey appeared.
"They seem to be your shadows," Viridi said.
"What?!" Pit exclaimed. "They don't look anything like us! First of all, I'm MUCH more attractive!"
"Honestly, it's like you WANT me to insult you,"
"No! You just do it anyway!" Zoey couldn't stop herself from laughing. Looking ahead in hopes of getting her mind off the conversation, only to spot the Chaos Kin on a rock formation.
"There! I see it!" She called out as she began to attack. The cowardly bug began to fly off, hoping to get out of Pit and Zoey's attack range.
"THAT Chaos Kin's the real deal!" Viridi revealed.
"Let's kill it!" Zoey yelled out. In spite of how much the Chaos Kin was moving around, two heavenly weapons blasting away at it, along with running straight into a rock, quickly knocked it out of the sky.
"Chaos Kin down!" Viridi cheered.
"Let's finish it off!" Pit agreed as he flew towards where it fell.
"Time to get Mike's soul back," Zoey said as she chased after her father.
"Where's Mike?" Zoey asked once they landed.
"He's close by," Viridi assured him. "But you'll have to finish off some enemies first!" As if on cue, enemies of all shapes and sizes appeared.
"Our pleasure!" Pit declared as he began to blast away.
"These are all enemies that you've seen before, but never together like THIS," Viridi pointed out. There were Underworld troops, Aurum creations and even Forces of Nature.
"Where are they even coming from?" Zoey asked.
"I have a hunch that the Chaos Kin is creating them," Viridi admitted.
"Oh, man! Don't tell me there's, like, an endless supply of them!" Pit was worried. While he and Zoey were pretty impressive warriors (and they were fighting on rage), they couldn't last forever.
"No, I don't think that's possible. Even though these enemies are knock-offs, they're real enough to hurt you. So I'm sure they require quite a bit of energy to create. Which means this will be an endurance contest between you and the Chaos Kin," Viridi explained.
"Oh, don't you worry! We can outlast any evil moth!" Pit declared. As if on cue, they finished off the first wave of enemies. A treasure box suddenly appeared, causing Pit and Zoey to grab the goodies they found inside.
"Here comes the second wave!" Viridi warned as more enemies spawned in.
"And here comes our second wind!" Zoey declared as the healing items she and Pit found in the treasure box kicked in. Sure enough, this wave ended quickly, in spite of the insta-kill Orne being present.
"And here comes the third wave. This is getting old fast," Viridi said.
"No kidding," Zoey agreed. This was getting old.
"Those Aurum troops are doing their best Game and Watch impression," Pit noted as he watched the enemies with some interest.
"Most interesting thing we've seen this whole fight," Zoey agreed. They saved them for last.
"Check out the gaming IQ on this guy!" Viridi exclaimed, actually sounding impressed. "You're a regular video-game historian! But enough nerdery for now. This place is crawling with Cacaws!"
"Ugh! Why did you create an enemy that annoying in the first place?" Pit groaned as Zoey tried to shake off the effects. Confusion during an enemy rush was not fun. At all.
"You can thank the Chaos Kin for this batch! Don't blame me!" Viridi snapped as Pit finished it off. As if on cue, another wave spawned in. That soon became the pattern, with Viridi announcing the waves and then bantering with Pit and/or Zoey.
Wave Six
"Wave six! Wait, that's a Boom Stomper and some Bumpety Bombs! Those are MY troops too!" Viridi snapped. "Seeing these copies of my warriors turns my stomach!"
"Boom Stomper and Bumpety Bomb, eh? You come up with those names yourself?" Pit snarked.
"Are you getting smart with me?"
"No, I'm just curious,"
"Because I DID come up with those names myself," Viridi admitted. "Aren't they just the cutest?"
"I guess?" Zoey offered.
"Bumpety Bomb... Tee hee. Have you ever heard anything so adorable?" Viridi giggled to herself. Pit and Zoey just rolled their eyes and got back to fighting.
Wave Eight
"Not another Orne!" Zoey wailed as she did her best to keep away from said floating skull.
"This could spell trouble. Stay away from the Orne and keep taking out the Komaytos," Viridi warned.
"You know, Komaytos look an awful lot like little Metroids," Pit noted as he defeated one.
"No! Shhhh! Stop right there!" Viridi snapped.
"What's the matter? All I said was that Komaytos look like little Metr—" Pit repeated, only for Viridi to cut him off.
"Hmm hmm HMMMM hmm! I can't HEAR you!" Viridi snapped.
"Hey, what's your problem?" Zoey asked.
"This game universe and that game universe have NOTHING to do with each other! So don't go around spreading rumors!" Viridi explained. Pit and Zoey just shrugged and went back to fighting. "Hope you're not too tired, Pit. The ninth wave is coming up!"
"Looks like you two could use a little help," Dark Pit said as he and Dark Zoey landed on the platform and began fighting off the enemies.
"We can do this by ourselves. And why are you suddenly so interested in helping us anyway?" Pit asked.
Dark Zoey scoffed. "You'd think they'd be more grateful."
"I can answer them," Dark Pit assured her. "While you were a ring? I was less than nothing. Unconscious. Un-MYSELF. We're connected. No you, no me. Two sides of the same coin. I'm guessing the same thing goes for Zoey and Dark Zoey."
"That's crazy! So that's why you have to help us save Mike!" Zoey exclaimed. They all shared a nod.
"OK then. Let's take these enemies down!" They all declared. With that, they all rushed forward.
Wave Thirteen
"We're at the thirteenth wave. I'm sure this is it!" Viridi declared.
"Then it's time," Dark Pit said.
"Time for what?" Pit asked.
"Our pre-boss-battle rallying cry!" Dark Pit and Dark Zoey declared together.
"Oh, right," Pit said, before clearing his voice. "OK. Ahem. Filth of the land, hear our words!"
"See our actions!" Dark Pit added in.
"And feel the sting of our weapons!" Zoey finished.
"I am Pit, servant of the goddess of light!"
"I am Zoey, daughter of the goddess of light!"
"I am Dark Pit, servant to no other but myself!"
"And I am Dark Zoey, daughter to Dark Pit and also servant to no other but myself!"
"TOGETHER WE WILL RAIN DEATH UPON YOU!"
"So, anyone who wants to die, step right up!" Dark Pit declared.
"And anyone who doesn't want to die, too bad!" Pit added in.
"Because we're gonna hunt you down!" Zoey vowed.
"And kill you anyways!" Dark Zoey eagerly finished.
"AW, YEAH!" All four cheered.
"Nice speech, guys. Did you stay up all night writing it? Or maybe it's your super-secret twin connection talking?" Viridi snarked. Suddenly, the Chaos Kin popped out of the ground.
"Well, look who decided to show up," Dark Pit mocked.
"It's game over, Chaos Kin!" Pit declared. The Chaos Kin decided to try flying away again.
"Oh no you don't!" Zoey snapped, already charging after it.
"Here, let me help!" Viridi called out. The Chaos Kin slammed into an electric barrier, preventing it from flying away. "There. That should make things easier for you four,"
"Thanks Viridi!" Zoey said as she began attacking.
"I set up an electro trap in the center of the field. It'll come in handy if you're having trouble keeping up with the Chaos Kin," Viridi revealed. Dark Zoey promptly lured it straight into the trap and started wailing away.
"Thanks, Viridi! You're always thinking!" Pit cheered as he attempted to join Dark Zoey, only to get shoved away.
"Wait your turn!" She snapped. "I need to wail away on something that can't move. It was so hard to find this place!"
"Well, one of us has to," Viridi snarked, causing Pit to let out an angry "HEY!".
"That bug will pay for what it's done!" Zoey vowed as she fired a charge shot at the Chaos Kin.
"Eating souls is bad enough, but going after the soul of a goddess is just vile," Dark Pit said, reminding everyone who the Chaos Kin was most likely attempting to target.
"Palutena resisted being consumed for over three years. I have to hand it to her—that takes a certain strength of will. She was waiting for you to return, Pit. She was also hoping that Zoey was able to escape to safety. I'm sure she used every last ounce of her power to resist," Viridi explained.
"She must have suffered so much…" Pit said sadly.
"Hey, focus on the fight! We got a bug to squish!" Dark Zoey snapped. The Chaos Kin was fighting like a coward would, mostly running away and dashing around. But with four fighters, it didn't stand a chance.
"Now THAT was a rain of death!" Pit declared as the Chaos Kin broke apart.
"Aw yeah!" Dark Pit cheered.
"Didn't stand a chance," Dark Zoey smugly crossed her arms. Mike's soul floated out of the corpse. Viridi merely teleported Mike's stone body into the arena. The soul floated into his body, returning him to normal.
"Ugh...Zoey...where are we?" Mike groggily asked as he looked around.
"Everything is okay," Zoey assured him. "I'm glad you're okay." Both smiled and went in for a quick kiss. Dark Pit scoffed and began to walk off, only for the remains of the Chaos Kin to wrap around him and toss him off the ledge.
"Oh no! Pittoo!" Pit cried as he jumped after him.
"DAD!" Both Zoeys cried as they rushed over to the edge to watch what was going to happen.
"Viridi, I need to fly!" Pit snapped.
"You already used the power of flight! Don't you remember? If I enable it again now, your wings will catch fire!" Viridi warned.
"The Chaos Kin is going to destroy Pittoo! Can't you see what's at stake here? I don't care if my wings catch fire!" Pit replied.
"Dad no!" Zoey called out. Unfortunately, he either couldn't hear her or ignored her pleads.
"No way! Just forget about it! I'm pulling you out!" Viridi snapped.
"No! Stop! If we don't help him right now, we won't have another chance! I'm begging you, Viridi! Let me fly! Now!" Pit begged.
"Hraaah! Fine! But whatever happens to you isn't my fault!" Viridi conceded. No one could see what was happening, but they could see Pit's flaming wings. Finally, Viridi teleported them back to the platform. Zoey gasped and tears filled her eyes. Mike wrapped his arms around her while Dark Zoey looked away.
"How's Pit?" Dark Pit asked as he tiredly picked his head up.
"Pit...Pit's in bad shape," Viridi said, her voice cracking. Dark Pit looked over to see Pit with completely burnt wings. "He can't fly. He's barely breathing." Suddenly, Palutena walked over to him, having teleported in. "Palutena? What are you doing?" Palutena didn't answer. She picked up her near dead husband, cradling his now vulnerable body in her arms.
"My wish would be to fly by myself!"
"I'll return to Skyworld victorious!"
Palutena just pressed her forehead against Pit's. "Oh, Pit…"
"Zoey?" Upon returning home, Zoey had completely disappeared. Mike had been sent to look for her. He finally found her sobbing in a ball. He just sat next to her. "Sorry all this had to happen,"
"Am I a bad person?"
Mike felt his heart skip a beat. "W-why would you say that!?"
"Because I thought that bad stuff like this only happens to bad people. It's karma, right?" Zoey tearfully admitted.
"Zoey…." Mike trailed off. He had no idea what to say. Finally, he came up with a rather risky answer. "Hey, do you wanna know why I fell in love with you?" She looked at him. "It wasn't because you're beautiful, it wasn't because you're an amazing fighter, it wasn't even because you're super nice and funny. It's because you never gave up. Nothing would stop you. Even after all that bad stuff happened thanks to that bug. So why are you sulking now?"
After a second, Zoey smiled. "No, I'm not giving up. We're so close now. Just gotta save Pit, then defeat Hades and everything goes back to normal!"
"That's the spirit!" Mike commended. Zoey pulled him into a kiss.
"Even though these last three years have been hell, the one good thing about them was finally getting into a relationship with you," She said as she went back in.
Sorry all my endings are depressing. Last one, I promise.
