PREVIOUSLY-
"I'm assuming this is more wolf business?" He asked us and we all nodded. "Well as long as my girl and her babies are healthy."
"That's why she's eating like us. The babies need extra food for their accelerated growth." Jared told him as I shoveled in another mouthful.
"Right." Charlie said with a chuckle.
Overall, I was pleased with how the day had gone and I was so excited for Emily and Sam. I couldn't wait all of our children to be born.
The next six weeks passed with no sign of Edward. I was getting more worried about it by the second. I was sure there was a reason behind his absence, and I had a feeling it wasn't a good one.
I was due for my appointment with Sue, the third one since we'd found out about the babies accelerated growth. At the second appointment, the babies were measuring 28 weeks and 26w 5d. Their growth was accelerating even faster than we'd thought. At my last appointment two weeks ago, our boy was measuring 32 weeks.
My body was accommodating the changes well enough though. My stomach was growing exponentially, considering I was carrying twins and I didn't know how many weeks they were now measuring. My appetite was bigger than ever, and I could officially keep up with the boys.
We'd calculated that the twins could potentially be born at any time. Jared and Paul were worried. I knew they were. They tried to keep me from noticing, but I always knew. They were on high alert for everything. Every little twinge or practice contraction had them on edge no matter how many times I told them it was just fine.
We walked down to the clinic (which was getting more and more difficult for me). Sue had purposefully booked us at a time when no one else would be there, that way no one would question my quickly advancing pregnancy.
I stopped halfway through our walk because I felt the familiar pressure of a practice contraction while one of the babies was trying to change position in their cramped little space.
"You okay baby?" Paul asked me as I leaned into him.
"I'm alright." I replied after feeling the pressure recede.
I saw Paul give Jared a look and I knew neither of them believed me. We finished the path to the clinic and walked in where Sue was waiting on us. She looked at my belly and motioned for us to come back.
She began the ultrasound and started checking the measurements.
"Bella, it looks like these babies are going to come sooner than later. Baby A is measuring at 38 weeks already and Baby B is at 36w 5d. It could be any time now. In fact, I think I should probably check you just to be on the safe side." Sue told me. I looked between both boys with a nervous expression.
Sue had me lift my legs into the stirrups and began to check me as I held onto both Jared and Paul's hands.
"Definitely could be anytime." She said, poking her head above the gown to look at us. "You're already 3cm and fully effaced. Have you been having contractions?"
Before I could reply, Paul did. "Yes, she has. In fact, she had one on the way here."
"Those are just Braxton-Hicks though." I replied to him.
"Not necessarily. If you're already dilated it means they've been doing their job, which could potentially mean that you're in the early stages of labor." She told me before turning to my imprints. "You boys need to watch for any signs." She then turned back to me. "And if you start feeling any painful or regular contractions, you need to call me right away. We've already talked about you not being able to have these babies in the hospital because too many questions would be asked, and they would want to run blood tests which we can't let them see."
"Is it safe if they were born now?" Jared asked Sue worriedly as he looked down at my belly.
"The boy is considered full-term already and the girl is right at the cusp. Girls lungs tend to develop quicker than boys and with their accelerated growth, she should be okay. I'm just worried about the birth itself. Natural birthing with twins can be difficult, especially if one of them decides to try to come out breach." Sue replied.
"So what kind of time frame are we looking at?" Paul questioned.
"When I say anytime, it could literally be any time, especially with their growth rate." Sue told them.
I was nervous. The babies could come at any time.
Out of nowhere both boy's attention shifted to outside the window. They must've heard something that I didn't.
"What is it?" I asked them quickly.
"Fuck!" Paul growled. "You stay, I'll go." He leaned down and kissed me. "Don't you dare have those babies until I get back."
I watched as he ran out of the clinic then I turned to Jared.
"Explain." I told him.
"We heard a howl, babe, and it wasn't a good one." I paled and immediately felt another contraction as Jared helped me up.
"Get her home. I'll be a phone call away if you need me." Sue told us as we walked out of the clinic.
I had to stop twice more on the way home to catch my breath. I was afraid of what was happening, and I was afraid that I'd go into labor during it.
"I need to see what's going on. I want you to stand by the door so that I can phase." Jared told me. I could sense his anxiety of the situation and my wolfy GPS was telling me that Paul was near Forks.
I nodded to him and stood up against the door while he phased just far enough away to not hurt me.
I watched as his expression went from stony to whimpering. Something bad was happening. He started walking toward me and phased back mid-walk, pulling me to his chest while simultaneously opening the door and pushing us inside.
"What's happening, Jared?" I asked him, so worried that I couldn't hardly speak.
"Cullen is back."
As the words hit me, I felt a terrifying pain rip through my abdomen and I collapsed against Jared's chest.
A/N- Uh oh! Here we go! Any predictions?
I'm sorry for the late update but I had a wonderful Easter with family and just enjoyed being outdoors. I've had a rough year so far, so I'm trying to soak in any bit of happiness I can at the moment.
As always, please review.
