ANNABETH
And then down they came with a thump! Oh, why do I love you like this, Percy Jackson!? WHY?! Was Annabeth's last thought as her eyes saw only darkness and she felt the air go out of her.
Annabeth woke with a start. Her heart thumping in her chest. Her eyesight blurred by the accumulation of tears. Her body perspiring. Her back wet with sweat. Her forehead creased, her palms clutching the bed-sheet tightly.
It took almost a minute for her eyesight to adjust to the darkness of her room. It's just a dream. She tried to console herself. It's just a dream. Nothing more. Nothing like that happened in reality.
But she just couldn't get herself to believe her own thoughts. So she spoke it out aloud. "It was just a dream, Annabeth." She said to herself as calmly as possible, "Percy's safe. Alive. And so are you." Her voice quivered.
"Nothing like that happened." She continued, "Nothing like that. Everyone is home safely. No one died. No car accidents. No glass shards piercing you. No dead Percy." and then she realized. "No kiss either." She whispered, so low that even she couldn't hear it. She knew what she spoke only because she was the one who said it.
She got out of her bed, and helped herself with a glass of cold water. Despite the low temperature of the room, her clothes were wet with sweat. What a nightmare. She sighed. She changed her clothes, because they were too damp for her liking.
She sat herself on the edge of her bed. Not daring to go back to sleep. She was scared of having another nightmare. Even losing him in sleep wasn't less painful. I wander what it will be like to….fuck! Stop it!
She couldn't even imagine it. All the time in UK, she had been consoled by the fact that somewhere, Percy was happy and contended and safe. That was what had kept her alive. She had chosen to love in silence. Cause there's no rejection in silence.
She switched on her phone. Percy was online in Instagram….should I message him? No…I don't think I should….it's 2:30! It wouldn't be good to do so…
Finding him online so late at night wasn't something new….that owl. She smiled despite herself. That was the effect of Percy Jackson on her. Warming. Enchanting.
She was still thinking whether or not to text him when her phone chimed.
P- Hey! You still up?
A- Looks like I am
P- All well, I hope…
A- Yeah. (She didn't want to tell him about the dream…or anyone else….or even herself)
P- Hey, umm, I was thinking about something….but IDK if I should do it or not….
A- Schrodinger's cat, Percy. Remember?
P- Yeah….IG I'll take the chance…I mean, what's the worst that can happen, right? The most that can happen is rejection…
A- Wait, what?
P- What?
A- What do you hope to imply by 'rejection'?
P- The task involve humans….ergo the 'rejection' term was used.
A- WHY will any sane person EVER REJECT YOU?!
P- IDK, I mean….I ain't a perfect person or anything like that...
A- Oh, Percy. I wish I could give you the power to look at yourself through my eyes.
Shit! Did I just type that!? Fool! Unsend it! Unsend it! But he replied before she could do that.
P- Ummm…?
A- Or anyone else's*. It doesn't really matter whose they are. You impress almost EVERYBODY!
P-So you mean to say that I won't get rejected?
A- Let us check the odds….how many times have you been rejected before?
P- Not many times….but I haven't done this thing before…
A- Trust me, Percy. You'll succeed in whatever endeavour you are talking about.
P- You think so?
A- Hell yeah!
P- Okay then! I'll do it!
A- That's the spirit!
P- Schrodinger's cat it is then. Annabeth Chase, would you like to be my date for the reunion prom?
WHAT?! Did he just send that to me?! She read it again. And again. And again. Five to six times over. The same text message. She drew in a deep breath, calm. Compose yourself.
A- I got to admit, I didn't see THIS COMING!
P- Um…what can I say?
She giggled to herself. And kept giggling. For many seconds.
P- Is your silence equivalent to a 'no'?
What?! No!
A- Pick me up at half past six for the prom tomorrow?
She was blushing a deep red all along. Thank god it wasn't a face to face conversation.
P- Yes ma'am! Good night! Sweet dreams! See ya!
A- We'll meet before you'll pick me up for the prom?
P- I actually have got some work to do finish tomorrow… so see ya at 6:30 sharp?
A- Okay then! See ya! Good night.
She put her phone aside. Took a few deep breaths. Put her head in the pillow. And screamed with excitement at the top of her lungs. The pillow muffles her voice. After a while, she calmly got her face out of the pillow, switched off the lights, and settled in her bed.
She had a sound dreamless sleep thereafter.
The next chapter will be out as soon as possible.
Till then, Stay Home, Stay Safe, and Keep Reading.
