Blood Runs Thicker Than Water

(A big thank you to GoodVibezzz for the lovely review. I'm hoping you're all enjoying this as much as I enjoy writing it! Keep the love coming Aurora & of course Carlisle appreciate it!)

As Aurora tore out of the house, scrambling to get her car keys, Carlisle was at her heels, while the rest of Cullen coven followed.

"Aurora!" Carlisle hollered.

Aurora didn't listen as Carlisle caught up to her grabbing her arm, spinning her around.

"Aurora! Listen to me!" Carlisle shouted. He shook her hard.

Aurora's eyes hardened; her mouth set in a firm line. Alice had run up to Aurora, as the rest stood on the driveway, wondering what they could possibly do.

"Aurora if you go on your own the Volturi will kill your parents!" Carlisle said in a dark, low tone. "This is what they want Aurora, for you to act with you heart!"

Aurora shoved Carlisle away with all her might, surprising the vampire, as he stumbled back.

"OF COURSE, I AM GOING TO ACT WITH MY HEART – THEY'RE MY PARENTS!" she screamed into the night.

Alice took a step back, seeing Aurora seething.

"Aurora, Carlisle, just meant…" Alice squeaked, her voice barely audible.

Aurora threw her a cold glare. Jasper jogged over to Alice, while Edward and Emmett ran over and stood by Carlisle who gaped at Aurora. It was Rosalie who strode boldly towards Aurora and stood in front of her.

"If you do this, you're not only putting them in danger, but yourself Aurora," she said quietly. "You may have been able to fend off the Volturi once, but as you told Alice, you didn't know how you did it – what if this time you can't protect yourself or your parents?"

Aurora regarded Rosalie coolly, her hands balled up into fists, her chest heaving. A deadly glint shone in her eyes.

"Then I'll die trying Rosalie," she said defiantly. "They're my parents. They're my family. I would think you know the value that family has."

Aurora turned to look back at Carlisle who looked utterly defeated.

"I'm sorry Carlisle. This is my family," she said.

Aurora turned her back on the Cullens, starting her car. The car tires squealed as she tore off into the night.

"She doesn't even know where to look!" Emmett said flabbergasted.

Carlisle looked down at his feet.

"Blood runs thicker than water," he whispered.

As Aurora pressed the gas pedal down to the floor, a strange sense of knowing came to her. It was akin to the same feeling she had had that day she had been walking towards the clearing in the Forks forest, hunting for her sunrise. She felt her heartbeat match the whirring of the engine as she sped through the darkness. She continued to drive until the lush forests of Forks gave way to expansive fields that were nestled between soft slopes. She made a sharp turn, as the car struggled to overcome the soft earth underneath its wheels. Turning off the engine, Aurora got out of the car and began to run. She ran and ran and ran, stumbling on rocks and sharp brambles, the skin on her shins and ankles getting bloodier with each heavy footstep. The further she ran, the thicker the bushes became, until she was running in the forest. Branches slapped and scratched at her arms and neck. She could feel her skin tearing and the burning of scrapes across her body. She stopped. Her heart hammered in her throat. She closed her eyes. A distinct cackle came a distance from her. Aurora's eyes flew open as she ran towards the sound. Skidding to a halt, Aurora ran into a small clearing. Four familiar caped figures stood in the middle, ominously leering over the crouching figures of her parents. Aurora could see her father clasping the small silver cross he had on his neck, muttering prayers.

"Well, well, if it isn't our lovely Aurora," Aro's sickly sweet voice rang out. "Your parents were beginning to think you had forgotten all about them."

Aro stood over Aurora's mother, pulling her hand painfully behind her back, twisting it. Aurora looked down to see her mother's face pale with terror and torment, while her father draped his arm protectively over her mother.

" . ," she sneered at Aro.

Caius smirked, stepping towards Aro.

"We were hoping you would show your parents your talents," he oozed. "After all, it is a parent's greatest dream to see their child achieve such achievements,"

Aurora marched towards to vampires, her teeth bared, blood rushing into her ears. Before Aurora could get any closer, in the blink of an eye, Aro twisted her mother's arm, dislocated it. He then crushed her wrist, feeling the bones give way in his grasp. Shrills screams filled the clearing as Aurora's mother collapsed in pain, her arm clumsily hanging at her side. Aurora's father looked into his daughter's eyes, tears streaming down his face.

"Run my little lamb! RUN!" he bellowed, as he cradled his wife's limp neck to his chest.

An intense, all-consuming hatred slithered into Aurora's body. She could feel as each cell in her being, burst with scalding hatred. It bubbled underneath her skin, exploding in her heart. Her eyes rippled with it. Aurora could no longer hear her father's cries, nor did she hear the arrival of others behind her.

Carlisle, Rosalie, Emmett, Alice, Jasper, and Edward all stood tall behind Aurora. Caius and the others noticed, baring down, closing in on Aurora's parents. Aro held up his hand.

"Well, well, it seems the cavalry has arrived," he oozed.

"Aro…" a petrified voice came from beside him.

Aro shushed Marcus, before he realized why Marcus was trying to get his attention. All the vampires watched as Aurora's rigid body was hovering inches from the ground, an invisible force levitating her body upwards. Aurora's hands were outstretched towards her parents. Her eyes glowing – glowing like the Aurora Borealis. A soft wind engulfed her levitating body, it swirled faster and faster until Aurora was engulfed in a whirlwind. Green and white light danced in unison around Aurora's floating figure. The air around her was swirling with millions of crystaline particles. Suddenly the wind stopped, as the outline of ghostly angel wings rose from Aurora's shoulder blades. The outline grew stronger and stronger.

"You were warned vampires," boomed a voice, coming from Aurora's lips, which was not her own. A ghostly finger pointing at Aro and company.

Aro smirked devilishly. He moved towards Aurora's sobbing father, quickly putting his neck in a headlock, ready to break it. As Aro was about to end the man's life, a violent force threw him back. Aro managed to flip, landed on his feet. As his feet touched the ground, Aurora's fist closed. Aro, Marcus, Jane, and Caius were all lifted into the air, floating towards her. Their hands were clawing at their hands, as an invisible force strangled them.

"Fiat justitia, ruat coelum," the disembodied voice rumbledfrom Aurora's lips. (Let justice be done though the heavens fall.)

All four vampires were lifted meters above Aurora's head as the force on their necks strangled them further. Their bodies contorted into hideous shapes as gargled screams spilled from their lips. The earth began to shake, branches from nearby trees began to snap and fall to the ground. Carlisle craned his neck looking as the terrified bulging eyes of the vampires begged to be saved. He quickly ran towards Aurora's father and mother, motioning for the others to follow. Emmett scooped Aurora's mother up, carrying her unconscious body out of sight. Rosalie and Edward helped Aurora's father up, allowing him to lean on their bodies, following Emmett.

A justified smile played on Aurora's lips as she heard the vampire's last pleas. Their skin was cracking, as their eyes started to become dimmer and dimmer.

Carlisle came to stand in front of Aurora. He looked up into the heavenly eyes.

"Aurora, my love," he cried out. "They are not worth this,"

Aurora's face didn't change. She stared at Carlisle with unfamiliarly cold eyes.

"Aurora," Carlisle continued to plead. "I beg you, don't become what they are – you are not a killer."

Her face remained unchanged. Carlisle dropped to his knees. He knew that this power she wielded could kill the vampires, but it could also kill her.

"AURORA!" Carlisle screamed. "MY LOVE, MY ANGEL, MY SALVATION – I BEG YOU!"

Something shifted in Aurora's other-worldly eyes. A hint of memory came to her. Ever so slowly, the whirlwind around her ebbed. Aro, Marcus, Jane, and Caius floated down towards the ground, gasping for air, spluttering and coughing, as life returned slowly to their bodies. Aurora's feet gently touched the ground, though the light in her eyes glowed just as intensely, the wings above her outstretched. She passed Carlisle as she approached Aro. Kicking his ribs, she watched as he moved onto his back, pain engraved onto his face. Aurora stared into his red eyes.

"If you ever come near my family again, I will hunt you down and kill each and every one of your kind. I will cleanse all of you from this earth. Do you understand me Aro?" she asked in a low, deadly whisper.

Aro managed to squeeze out a shrill laugh, as he coughed and sputtered.

"If you commit to killing each and every one of our kind my dear Aurora – you'll have to kill your beloved Carlisle too," he wheezed.

Aurora considered him for a moment. She crouched down, leaning into Aro. Her wings covered him, encircling him in white. She allowed her finger to trace the cracked skin of the vampire, tracing his open lips, before leaning into his ear.

"I'll tell you a little secret Aro," she purred. "Carlisle is the only reason you and your wretched coven is still alive. If it hadn't been my love for Carlisle, I would have gladly let you choke to death and watched as your worthless souls plunged into the depths of hell."

She stood up triumphantly, turning her back on the vampires.

"Remember my warning Volturi – if you ever try to so much as get within 10,000 miles of my family – my mother, my father," she paused. "My future husband and his family, I will gladly deliver you all to your maker."
