Thank you for the reviews, Love ya'll!
When Tris and Tobias get back from their mountain getaway for their honeymoon, Andrew, Harrison, Hana, and Max all set off for Grenada. Zeke, Tris, Uriah, Caleb, Rose, Christina, and Tris practically have to shoo them out the door to the airport.
"And don't forget that on Wednesday the delivery man is coming ..." Hana rattles off as Caleb and Uriah place the luggage in the back of Uriah's SUV.
"Ma we got it" Zeke reassures her.
"I know, I'm sorry, I just don't want to forget anything," Hana says with a sigh. It wasn't that she didn't trust all the kids but this was really the first time all the adults had left them alone. Yes, there were all grown now but she couldn't stop herself from worrying.
"We will survive, We promise and besides, this is great practice for when you all retire," Rose says brightly as Harrison and Max chuckle.
"And we promise not to throw a party like we did that time Grandma Edith broke her hip" Uriah teases as Hana grabs his face playfully.
Everyone laughs at the time that Max's mother, who had moved back to Georgia when she had enough of the Chicago winters, had broken her hip. Stephanie and Max went to Georgia to see about her which left Hana, Harrison, and Andrew to run the restaurant. Zeke and Caleb were seniors in high school and Christina, Uriah, and Tris kids in 9th grade, and Rose in 7th. Zeke and Caleb were supposed to be keeping an eye on the younger kids but instead, they had taken the opportunity to throw a party at Max and Stephanie's house which quickly got out of control and landed them all grounded for a month.
The week goes by smoothly with Tobias and Zeke taking a few vacation days to help out with Uriah having to head to the fire station halfway through the week. Shauna was still on summer break so she was able to help out as well. The parentals are pleased when they return and see the restaurant is still standing and open for business. The kids are also proud of themselves for working together and keeping everything running smoothly.
As soon as the first episode of Real Housewives of Chicago airs Tobias and Marlene started getting phone calls for interview requests. Tobias wasn't big into social media but his Dms started blowing up. When the second episode airs to highlight his relationship with Tris, Tris sees her IG followers triple. The Pit and Sounds of Candor were more popular than ever, especially with increased social media attention. Tris was planning to take 3 months off after she had the baby provided everything went well so Bobby was holding off all Fall bookings until the Spring.
"Baby we made the Shade Room!" Tris says wide-eyed showing Tobias her phone one evening as they curled up on the couch while watching The Wood with Omar Epps and Taye Diggs. Tobias takes her phone and looks at one of the pictures she had posted from their engagement photos in Grenada and a video of Tris singing from the Sounds of Candor page. They were halfway through the season and it was clear Evelyn had been made the villain of the season with her antics in trying to control Tobias and Marlene's love lives. Fans had quickly latched on to Tris and Tobias's love story. Tris was contacted by the National Ad Campaign and Donors for Life about doing an ad campaign for organ donation. Tobias was really proud of how she had embraced her role as an ambassador. She had taken a short social media class over the summer and was gaining a following by highlighting stories of other transplant recipients on her Instagram account. She had done a few interviews with Chicago media and was starting to receive speaking requests for hospitals asking her to speak at benefits and fundraisers for organ donation. She and Tobias had agreed with her limited ability to travel due to the pregnancy to hold off on most of the speaking requests until after the baby was born unless she was able to do them virtually.
"Ugh stay out the comments Please Tris," Tobias says.
"Baby people are really rooting for us" Tris giggles scrolling through. "Apparently you are really good looking too according to the ladies"
Tobias snorts with laughter.
"OMG, Monica says I have a great voice! MONICA!" Tris swoons and dramatically falls back on the couch.
Tobias laughed, he breathed a sigh of relief that this was amusing right now. He made her promise to deactivate her IG account if she felt she was getting overwhelmed.
"I guess should probably tell you that Essence Magazine called, wanting us to do a photoshoot"
"What!" Tris screams sitting up, holding her belly
"Well, that tells me you might consider it" Tobias chuckles, pulling her close to him so he could lean over and kiss her growing belly.
"I mean when am I ever going to have a chance to be in Essence Magazine," Tris says quietly. "You don't want to do it do you?"
"Baby, honestly I will do whatever you like, If you want to, let's do it"
"I mean, I'm not getting crazy am I, it's just I never thought that anyone would ever want to put me in a magazine! Will you tell me if I get out of control?" Tris says with her eyes welling up with tears.
"Yes, I will, don't cry Tris, I'm so happy you are excited" Tobias soothes. He was getting used to the ups and downs of Tris and her pregnancy hormones. This week alone she had cried when Jada who was starting to talk more and more said My Auwtine Twris and crossed her arms when anyone said anything about Tris being pregnant and she sobbed when she couldn't decide between Mongolian Beef and Kung Pao chicken for dinner.
"I know, I'm sorry," Tris says dabbing at her eyes. She didn't want to turn into one of those people that was fame-seeking but for so much of her life, she felt like she had been invisible and confined to her bed all of the things being thrown at her were so exciting.
A week later Tris and Tobias are at her prenatal appointment. Things had been going very well. Tris was making sure to follow all of Dr. Matthews and Dr. Johnson's instructions. So far there were no heart defects detected through all of the testing done. Tris was fascinated learning about all of the changes that had occurred since she had been born to help catch things early. She also loved how involved Tobias was with all of the preparations for the baby. He had started a notebook that he brought to every appointment to take notes. He was reading parenting books at night and researching car seats and pediatricians.
"Do you want to know the sex of the baby?" Dr. Johnson asks.
Tris tightened her grip on Tobias's hand and nodded. They had discussed waiting until the baby was born to find out the sex but Tris wanted to be able to plan out nursery colors and themes. Rose had asked if she wanted to do a gender reveal but Tris decided she didn't like that idea. Tobias kissed Tris's hand as they both looked at the monitor anxious to see what the doctor was seeing.
"Well it looks like you two are having a boy," Dr. Johnson says with a smile as she takes a few pictures.
Tris starts to cry and Tobias leans in to kiss her.
"A baby boy" Tris whispers looking at him. She knew she didn't care what they were having as long as the baby was healthy.
"I'm having a son," Tobias says fighting back tears of his own. "Harrison Bakari Eaton, my son," Tobias says proudly.
He admitted that he was apprehensive about this pregnancy at first because of his fear of losing Tris but every day that passed the more he watched her body change, he was so amazed and he was all in now. He wanted nothing for Tris along with their baby to be healthy. Tris smiles still sniffing as she looks over at her husband and sees the joy on his face, She was so happy Tobias had really embraced the idea of becoming a father, she was so over the moon to be on this journey with him.
The photoshoot with Essence was a fun day for Tris. She was used to Rose, Shauna, and Christina fussing over her but an entire glam squad for her was a new experience. Tris was nervous at first but the hairstylist, wardrobe stylist, and makeup artist put her at ease. The crew came to Chicago when Tobias explained that Tris was pregnant and couldn't travel to LA. Tris had several outfits to choose from that complimented her growing belly. The makeup artist did a great job at not going too over the top with her look sticking to colors that highlighted her warm caramel skin tone. Tris had never really been to a professional hairstylist with Hana and Stephanie always doing her hair growing up and then Rose and Christina when they got older. Marlene tagged along and they took some shots of her and Tobias together deciding a story about the siblings would be great in another upcoming issue. It helped Tris relax more with Marlene and Tobias were there with her as well.
Tobias thought Tris was absolutely gorgeous in the following yellow dress chosen for her. She had never been one for over-the-top makeup and hair which he appreciated about her, it went with her vibe. Even for their wedding day she still had that earthy chic vibe that he loved about her. The stylist embodied that for her look but took it up a level. Tobias was having a hard time keeping his hands to himself when they were all finished with wardrobe, hair, and makeup which caused Tris to giggle and laugh during the first shots they took. The photographer loved the natural ease between the two and captured as many candid shots as she could.
They did several studio shots and then went down to Lake Michigan for some more shots. Tris was actually pleased and the photos served as great maternity photos since they hadn't taken any yet. The photographers were also nice enough to do some headshots for her since she was doing so many speaking engagements now she needed them. When the photographers were getting individual shots of Tobias before the shoot wrapped up Tris wandered a little down the shore on Lake Michigan watching the waves. It wasn't Grenda but it was a close as she could get. Tris still couldn't believe the life she was living it still seemed surreal at times.
"You okay Sis" Marlene asks drawing Tris out her thoughts.
"Yeah, just sometimes it's hard to believe this is my life now, two years ago I was fighting for my life in a hospital bed and here I am married and about to have a baby"
Marlene smiles softly and links her arm with Tris.
"I cannot wait to meet my nephew. I know it has been a lot of ups and downs but you and my brother deserve to be happy"
"Am I going to get a niece or a nephew anytime soon from you and Will" Tris teases as they walk.
"Seeing you and T has got me thinking that just maybe Will and I could pull off the whole parent thing"
Tris grinned, she loved how she could see Will and Marlene growing in their relationship, she could tell how much they loved each other.
Tris hugs Marlene's arm as they walk back to Tobias. All of the hardships had been worth where they ended up now.
Things were going smoothly at the restaurant after the parentals trip to Grenada. Tris was trying to follow her doctors' suggestions and appease Tobias by not being on her feet too much even though all her vitals were still doing well. She and Christina were taking turns working on payments and booking keeping so Hana and Rose could wait tables. Tris had revamped the social media accounts for the restaurant and was able to do that from the office while she sat down which made Tobias feel much better. Christina would be more available to work in the office when the boys went back to school but they were still figuring out but their family always made it work.
Tris is working on the numbers from the night before when Rose comes into the office and closes the door with a look of pure disgust on her face.
"What's wrong with you?" Tris asks looking up from the computer.
"Caleb's ex is here" Rose whispers.
Tris lets out a sigh and places her elbows on the desk, and moving her hand across her face in frustration.
"Just great, have the parentals seen her"
Rose shakes her head no in response. "Should we just try and get rid of her before Caleb sees her? He hasn't been answering her phone calls"
Tris blows out a breath, would Caleb be pissed if he found out that Tris and Rose ran Cara off, he really had been dodging her. He and Susan were spending much more time together and she knew he was working up the courage to tell her about his drug problem and why he left New York.
"I think we need to ask him, I don't want to risk him thinking we can't trust him to make his own decisions based on what we've been reading about helping his recovery" Tris finally says.
Rose nods "I'll go ask him what he wants me to do"
Tris emerges from the office about 15 minutes later to see Caleb coming out from the kitchen.
"Cara, what are you doing here?" Caleb squeaks out wiping his hands on his apron. He feels his heart speed up as he sees she has her suitcase with her.
He hadn't believed Rose when she told him Cara was out front asking for him. He had distanced himself from her, he had one slip up over the past nine months since he had been home from rehab and that was after Cara came to visit the last time but had been going strong for the past three months. He and Susan weren't back together officially but they had fallen into an easy companionship that Caleb found comforting.
"I missed you, you weren't answering my calls," Cara says as she wraps her arms around him.
"We need to talk, Cara," Caleb says quietly. He leads them to the courtyard for some privacy as she frowns.
Tris tries not to eavesdrop but she sees them having an animated conversation with Cara crying and waving her hands. When Hana comes by she stops and touches Tris on the shoulder.
"You need to give him his privacy sweetheart"
"I know, I'm sorry, I just don't get a good feeling off her" Tris admits.
"Me either Bumblebee" Hana sighs.
Caleb and Cara stay out in the courtyard for over an hour. Rose and Tris both sneak glances and at one point Caleb looked completely defeated sitting down in a chair with his head in his hands.
"Is everything okay?" Tris asks cautiously when Caleb reenters the restaurant. Caleb looks around and says lowly so any of their afternoon customers don't hear.
"Yeah I need to talk to Dad"
Tris could tell by the sound of his voice this wasn't going as he wanted it to go. For some reason, it was as if Cara had some hold on him that he couldn't shake. Just being in her presence made Caleb different, made him that version of himself that wasn't confident and jovial.
Everyone in the family was visibly uncomfortable when Caleb announced that Cara was staying in Chicago to be closer to him. Rose, Christina, Tris, and Shauna all had their own opinions that they tried to keep in their private group chat or when they were out alone with each other.
Rose: She's lying, I think she got fired too and had nowhere else to go
Christina: I think you are on to something, I don't trust her
Tris: Neither do I
Shauna: I wish Caleb wouldn't follow her around like a puppy dog, I don't like her energy, something just seems off.
Tris had been caught off guard the next day she went upstairs to rest between the lunch and dinner rush and she found Cara upstairs in their apartment. Cara had told her Caleb said she could hang out there until he finished work but Tris felt off with the entire encounter. Since Cara had shown up with all her things with nowhere to go Andrew struggled to say that it was okay for her to stay with them. Caleb looked conflicted as well but Cara promised she would find a job and somewhere to live soon. Tris tried to keep her distance especially since everyone reminded her that she needed to keep her stress level down.
After a week of Christina and Tris trying to figure out what to do when they were on maternity leave, Caleb suggested that Cara start waitressing at The Pit. Hana looked uncomfortable with the idea but they all realized they needed the help. Once Cara was settled in, it didn't take long for Caleb's behavior to start to change. He was fine for the first month but after then it went all downhill. Caleb became more short-tempered and forgetful, his eyes had the same glossy look that he had when he first came home from New York the year before.
There was an awkward tension in the air anytime Cara was around. Andrew had made it very clear that no drugs were allowed in the house and Cara had given fake acknowledgment. Rose had more than one run-in with her about her being rude and unapproachable or off in her speech. Tris noticed that Cara was always leaving as soon as the restaurant closed she knew something wasn't right.
Andrew, Hana, Max, and Harrison were terrified to drive Caleb away again but they were committed to being firm with Caleb that his sobriety should be his priority and if he was to remain working at the restaurant and stay with anyone in the family he had to reign in his behavior. They knew the kids weren't holding back in their thoughts and feeling about Cara and she was getting more and more out of line. Caleb was starting to slip too becoming more and more defensive. By the middle of September, things reached a boiling point one morning before the restaurant opened.
"I just feel like I'm suffocating here, Cara just wants us to be able to live without all the pressure," Caleb says defensively as he looks at his father, aunt, and uncles as they stand in the middle of the restaurant. He had just dropped a bomb that he and Cara were moving out because Cara felt like he could be doing more than just working at the restaurant.
"Caleb all we want is for you to stay sober and be healthy and happy, that's it" Rose pleads. She and everyone else knew that if Caleb hadn't relapse already as soon as he moved in with Cara, his sobriety would be a thing of the past.
Caleb was adamant that he and Cara were going to be fine living on their own. Cara had found a new apartment for them and the family was doing everything in their power to keep him from leaving with her. Everyone could tell that Cara was pushing Caleb to do what she wanted. His change in demeanor was that of when he first arrived back from New York, a clear sign that he was using again.
"Caleb, I don't want to do this but are you sure you can trust her that this is good for you. Things have gone missing from upstairs since she's been here with you. And now the past two weeks the register has been short" Tris says quietly.
She had looked high and low for one of her mother's pair of earrings that she left in her room with some of her things. Cara had made herself right at home with Caleb and Andrew and Tris felt it in her gut that she had gone through what she had left in her room. She and Christina had double-checked all of the numbers from the past two weeks and there were several days where things just didn't add up. In all their years learning how to do the countdown at the end of the night that had never happened. And now it had happened three times in the past two weeks.
"Are you accusing me of stealing?" Caleb scoffs
"No, I'm accusing her of stealing Caleb," Tris defends trying to keep her voice low.
"Everyone, let's calm down" Max interjects.
"Caleb, if you would just give us a chance to…" Andrew stats
"No, I don't think I need to hear anything else," Caleb says coldly.
"Please Caleb, Sweetheart, it doesn't have to be this way" Hana pleads.
Caleb doesn't say anything else he grabs his duffle bag and walks out the door.
Tris pulls her father into a hug and Hana wraps her arms around Rose who was now crying.
"I don't feel good about this Daddy," Tris says as she pulls away and wipes the tears away from her eyes.
"I don't either Bumblebee but I don't know how else to help him" Andrew sighs and closes his eyes, hoping his son would be safe.
Tobias tried to keep Tris as calm as possible and not worry about Caleb. It was difficult with her and Christina both overly emotional as they both were quickly approaching their due dates. Hana, Max, Andrew, and Harrison didn't know if they should go look for him to convince him to come home. Zeke and Uriah reason that as long as Cara was in the picture that wouldn't help things. Caleb was going to continue using drugs and think that the family was ganging up on him. She was clearly a strong influence in Caleb drifting apart from the family when he was in New York.
A month goes by and no one hears a word from him. Zeke has the guys in the precinct looking out if they hear anything but the family starts to worry. At Tris's check-up that week Dr. Johnson doesn't like the level of Tris's blood pressure and says she thinks it's time Tris stopped working. Tris cries overwhelmed but wanting to do what was best for her baby especially when she remembers how terrified Tobias was at losing her.
Shauna, Marlene, and Rose host a double baby shower for Christina and Tris that weekend hoping it would take everyone's mind off Caleb. Tris and Christina were only about six weeks from their due date now. The shower was set up as a co-ed event with a bar. Tris had thought it was going to be hard because she hadn't been in a good mood the entire week but she actually appreciated the laughs and fun they had that afternoon. Shauna and Rose organized Minute to Win it games for the participants. Tris thought she was going to pee on herself laughing at Amar, Will, Zeke, Uriah, and Tobias trying to knock golf balls down the floor with lemons in pantyhose tied around their waists. Tori won the contest where the contestant had ping pong balls in an empty tissue box that was tied to your waist and you had to shake and jiggle to get the balls to pop out while Bobby and Mike tied for who could down changed a diaper the fastest and most accurate while blindfolded.
Christina and Uriah were waiting to find out if they were having a boy or a girl so most of their gifts were generic things that they would need even though they still had tons of equipment from when Jada was born.
Marcus had gone all out for Tris and Tobias with the purchase of their nursery furniture that included a crib, dresser, changing table, and rocking chair. Amar and George had gifted them the stroller Tris wanted. Evelyn gifted Tris with a Gucci diaper bag that was completely over the top and Tris knew she was trying too hard guessing the bag cost thousands of dollars but she smiled and said thank you anyway.
Tris is worn out after the day and Evelyn and Marcus come home with Tobias and Tris to help get all the gifts in the house while Will stays to help Marlene and Shauna clean up. When they get home Tris immediately goes to lay on the couch.
"Want me to bring you some water Baby" Tobias asks as he walks in with a large box that contains the stroller.
"I can get it" Tris sighs.
"No, let me get it" Evelyn insists as she walks through the door with several gift bags in her hands.
She sets them down and quickly goes to get a bottle of water from the fridge. As she goes to hand it to Tris, Pharoah moves in between them and lets out a low growl.
"Pharaoh stop that" Tris scolds. Pharoah moves to nudge Tris's belly with his wet nose and she scratches behind his ears. When Evelyn goes to hand Tris the bottle of water again he snaps at her causing Evelyn to jump back. She had never liked the dog but he had never been this aggressive towards her.
"Pharaoh" Tobias calls forcefully as he and Marcus descend the stairs after carrying up the bags to the room that was being turned into the nursery. Pharaoh relaxes Tobias's command and moves to sit by Tobias who pats his back and rubs his ears before letting him out onto the patio.
"Sorry he's been very overprotective since I got pregnant," Tris says as Evelyn nods. Tris tried to keep her smile in but she couldn't help it. Even Pharaoh could pick up the tension that still lingered between Evelyn and the rest of the family and he could sense when Tris was uncomfortable with someone as well as when she wasn't feeling well.
Tris had been reading about how to socialize the baby with Pharaoh so he wouldn't feel neglected. Pharaoh was great with Chris and Uriah's kids but this was confirmation that he was going to be a proud pappa with the baby as well.
That night Tris went to sleep early, tired from all the excitement of the day. She dreamed of her mother that night. Tris could barely remember her since she died when she was only 5 years old. Most of her memories were from home videos that Hana and Andrew had. Caleb was in her dream too. Natalie didn't speak to Tris in her dream she just walked over to her with a look of concern as she looks between Tris and Caleb. Tris shot up in the bed breathing heavy and feeling disoriented from her dream.
"Tris, what is it, is the baby okay," Tobias asks sleepily but full of concern from being started.
"I'm sorry I just had this dream"
"About what?"
"My mom and... and Caleb," she says quietly wiping her forehead. She had worked up a sweat.
Tobias turns and looks at her more alert now.
"Tobias something bad is going to happen," Tris says as tears well up in her eyes.
"Hey, Hey, he's going to come around, don't cry" Tobias soothes as he pulls her to his chest and wraps his arms around her while she cries.
He wished he believed what he was telling her but even he was starting to feel the longer that Caleb was out in the streets with Cara something horrible was going to happen.
What do you think! Let me know!
