Chapter 27 - Funeral
The funeral was a very solemn, and peaceful event. Everyone from Torchwood was there. Shakes and his men had the majority of the entire guard there. The Doctor had told Genie that he wouldn't let her out of his arms until she asked to be put down. He held her in one arm, as he held Rose's hand. Pete saw him and was able to finally convince Genie to let him hold her.
The Doctor handed her to Pete. "Come and let Grandfather help out your poor Daddy. His back must be killing him after carrying you around for hours." Pete told her as she let him hold her in his arms. He kissed her cheek. "Your Grandfather loves you so much."
As he said it, the Doctor leaned back and stretched his back. "Ugh. Not a moment too soon there, Grandfather. Didn't even realize it until you mentioned it."
The funeral was over and everyone was loitering about. It had been a long day. The rain kept them all in for the memorial service.
Rose rubbed his back as he wrapped his arm around her.
Michelle walked up to them with a young man. He was a tall teenager with short blond hair.
The Doctor smiled and kissed her cheek. "Michelle! Nice to see you. I don't know why I didn't realize you would be here. Sorry."
She shrugged her shoulders and smiled. "Ah, I didn't tell you! I should have put that on your agenda."
Pete laughed at her.
The Doctor smiled, "Right. Have you met Rose? Rose Tyler, this is the famous Michelle."
Rose laughed and shook her hand. "It's so nice to finally meet you! Thank you so much for helping keep us straight."
Michelle shrugged. "Ah, it's what I do. Is that your little girl over there?" she pointed at Pete holding Genie.
The Doctor said, "Yes! That's our Sara Gene with her Grandfather. You know Pete, right?"
"Nice to see you." She said as Pete leaned in an kissed her cheek.
Pete told Genie, "This is Michelle. She's the one that decorated your room and bought you all of those toys!"
Genie smiled at her but, quickly grabbed Pete around the neck a bit tighter. He laughed and rubbed her back. "Grandfather's not going to put you down. Not until you tell him you want down." He laughed as he walked away, bouncing Genie.
"Who is this?" the Doctor asked Michelle as he pointed to the tall teenager standing next to her.
"Oh, pardon my rudeness. This is my eldest son, Logan. He was out of school today, so he agreed to be my escort to the memorial. My sister, Chelsea, wasn't able to make it."
The Doctor was impressed. He shook his hand. "Good man, Logan. Helping out your mum like that."
Logan shrugged his shoulders. "Nah, it's a small thing. Mum said she didn't know Melissa, but I knew she would still need someone to hold her hand."
Rose was impressed. "He's a gem! Well done with him, Michelle!"
Michelle beamed. "He's the man of the house. He does a great job keeping us all straight. His father died in the Cyber Invasion. He thought me coming to another memorial would be upsetting."
The Doctor patted his shoulder. "A gentleman. Don't let anyone ever tell you it's underrated. It will get you further than anything in life will. Are you one of the footballers?"
Logan smiled. "Yes, sir!"
"Ever heard of the Secret Service?"
Logan looked surprised. "From the United States? Yes, sir!"
"Well, they have a group of guys that my bodyguards, Jake Simmonds and I play. They have asked for a rematch at the British Royal Gardens in a few days. The First Lady, Caroline Shepherd, is coming to visit President Harriet Jones. We're down a player because Jake is hurt. Would you like to come play?"
Logan got excited. "Oh, yes sir! That would be brilliant! Once in a lifetime opportunity!"
"Ah, it's just a friendly game. Granted, it always manages to get out of hand."
Logan smiled, "The best ones always do!"
The Doctor laughed and agreed. "Rose's brother and Pete are our referees. Tony is tough!"
Rose laughed, "Yeah, he is! Don't let his size fool you. He's only four and he threw a huge guy out of the game last time for swearing!"
The Doctor laughed and rocked on his feet. "Yeah, he did! It was hilarious. That boy is something!"
Michelle laughed with them. "Sounds like such fun! Do you need me to get uniforms printed or anything?"
The Doctor thought, "You know, that's a swell idea! Caroline had shirts printed when we were in the states playing, but I would fancy a kit. Like a proper uniform for all of us. Could you do that?"
Michelle smiled. "Of course! I'll take care of it. You'll be happy."
Rose smiled. She was so happy someone was as invested in making her Doctor as happy as she was.
"Brilliant, Michelle! Great idea! Also, I need to probably chat with you about Pete. He's going out of town for a while, and needs me to help with his schedule." the Doctor said.
Pete walked back over. "Yeah, Michelle. Just get with Chelsea and she'll help with everything. The Doctor has agreed to help me out with some of these meetings, along with everything else. He's really saving me at the moment."
The Doctor smiled. "Just like Pete is saving my back at the moment. Are you alright, Genie?"
Genie smiled as she held Pete's neck. Pete leaned down and kissed her cheek. "She's just fine, Daddy. Don't worry about us. Right, Genie?" Pete walked away to speak to someone else.
Michelle smiled, "Don't worry about it. We'll get it sorted. It will be a busy schedule for a few days."
Rose spoke up, "Oh, and thank you for all of your help with everything. Especially last night. That was amazing!"
Michelle smiled. "I truly enjoyed it. Did he sing?"
The Doctor ran his hand through his hair and looked around. "Women. Ganging up on me." He told Logan.
Logan laughed. "And they have one another's numbers. Something to keep in mind."
Rose heard him and smiled. "He did sing! John has a video, but I've not seen it."
The Doctor snapped his fingers. "That's who has it! I'll get it! Erase it. Oh, these guys. Sure you want in with this lot, Logan?"
Logan laughed. "Sounds like fun to me!"
Michelle spoke again, "I had an idea. For tomorrow. But, it deals with something I'm not sure if you are aware I know. But, I feel like should be honest with you since we are working so closely together."
The Doctor looked surprised. "Uh-oh! Now, I'm worried."
She smiled, "I know you have a way to pop from here to there instantly."
He looked at Rose. "Ugh. How do you know that?"
"I know Pete and Howard Shepherd have them, too. I saw them in your office yesterday. Doctor. I'm the mother of six boys. All on my own. Not much gets past me."
He glanced up at Logan who said. "It's true. She's got eyes on top of eyes!"
The Doctor laughed at her son. "Okay, yes it's true. But, it's something I'd prefer you didn't tell anyone or-"
"Oh, I'm not an idiot. Don't worry about that. I know where I work, and know what goes on there. I won't ever say anything about it. I only bring it up because I had an idea for something Genie might enjoy tomorrow. To get all of this off of her mind."
Rose was shocked. This woman was good! Either that, or the Doctor had been very careless and needed a smack. "What did you have in mind?"
"Disneyworld. Near Atlanta. Pop over there for the day and just give her a fun time. Atlanta's weather is extremely hot in the summer, but right now it's pleasant. Perfect time to go. I'll arrange everything and have everything you need to you first thing in the morning. Pop over there, show her a good time. Start her new life on a fun step."
The Doctor was excited. "Well, that's brilliant! Yes! Tony will also be with us. So, it will be four of us for a while. Wow. Great idea! Thank you!"
"How many body guards will you be taking?" she asked.
The Doctor looked at Rose. "What do you think, dear? The regular guard? Can Shakes fit on anything at Disneyworld?"
Rose laughed, "You are an idiot. Four. Thank you, Michelle. That is a great idea!"
Michelle shrugged, "Ah, that's my job."
