Chapter twenty-seven

Dawson had been a bit worried about the next few days. She knew she would be on a 24 hours shift and would leave with the girls for Stella's bachelorette party, and even though she was excited about it, she was also a bit worried not to see her son for so long.

Obviously, she was well aware that her boy wouldn't be on his own, that Matt would be with him and Bonnie would take the lead when Matt would had to go for Kelly's party. But still everything didn't sit well with her, even more knowing that the mood between her and Brett wasn't actually over….

She could hear Louie in the phone, telling her about his day, what he had done with Bonnie and how fun he was going to have at the wedding. He was actually very excited about this wedding, which was a bit surprising for the parents, but they were glad to see their son warm up to everything and everybody.

Gabby looked up to see Stella come in the locker room and smiled at her. "Baby I think it's time for you to go to bed okay?" she said gently as Louie agreed. "I love you big boy, so does daddy, we'll see you soon okay?" she continued.

"I love you too mama!" she heard Louie yell before the line went off.

Gabby laughed putting her phone back in her pocket as Stella giggled next to her. "How is the little guy?" Stella asked.

"Well he just hung up the phone to my face but other than that he is good. I just have to get used to that, he's already growing so fast" Gabby replied with a sigh.

"He is 5, you're good!" Stella shot with a grin. "Isn't Casey here?" she asked then surprised not to see the lieutenant as it was the call before bedtime for their son.

"He was here, he had to go see Boden I guess, he'll be back. Why? Did you need to talk to him?" Gabby asked.

"No actually, I want to talk to you" Stella said sitting down on the bench next to Dawson.

"Okay what's up?"

"Don't take what I am going to say the wrong way, but things between you and Brett are… Tense, and I know that you two don't see things eye to eye but are you going to be able to put this aside for the bachelorette party?" Stella asked with a bit of a grimace, worried that Gabby would take it wrong.

"Stella, I promise that it's going to be your day, we are adults we can put our problems aside" Gabby promised not wanting her friend to worry about any kind of tension going on.

"You… Are you… Do you want to talk about it?" Stella asked then seeing that Gabby seemed really uncomfortable.

"Not really, it's just complicated. I don't really know what to do, I love her you know she is my friend, but… She is also with Antonio, and things are completely crazy between them and I've been trying not to get too involved and she is carrying that against me…" Gabby explained getting a nod from her friend.

"I've heard something about you two being in competition for the PIC place…"

"Huh? Who said that?" Gabby asked confused and a bit annoyed because it was not true.

"Well to be honest it's not a rumor going around, I guess I've heard Casey talk about it with Kelly"

"Oh… Okay"

Stella watched Dawson for a second noticing that the brown woman was looking down to the floor. "Gabby, you okay?" Stella asked hoping her friend wasn't feeling bad because of her.

"Yeah, am okay, it's just… Matt and I have been talking about it and we don't really share the same point of view on the subject… He is not being the most supportive of Brett lately and it's not like I fully disagree with him, but I don't want him to be so against her either" Gabby explained.

The situation with Brett was complicated, and Gabby didn't like it, but she also didn't like the idea of her partner being so hard on her. She hated to feel the competition and rivalry between them. And after all this time, and all the work they had done together, Gabby didn't really understand the reasons for Brett to be so tough and head strong about who was leading… And of course, Gabby would never come for someone else's job even more because Brett was her friend.

"Am sure Casey only wants to protect you"

"Yeah but that's the thing… He is my husband and I love him but he's been acting like my husband here as well, and that's not okay…"

Stella nodded understanding how Gabby felt. "Yeah… I guess sometimes going home with a colleague is not always easy" she replied thinking about how much things with Kelly could be tensed after a tough day at the firehouse.

"I wouldn't have it any other way, he is such a good man, and amazing husband and the best dad I've ever seen but yeah sometimes I'd like things to be easier…" Gabby said rolling her eyes.

"Am sure he is just trying to protect you"

Gabriela knew that she needed to figure things out with her friend as soon as possible because the more time she let this dragged on the more things were affecting everybody and she didn't want that.

"Do you think I'm wrong with rice do you think that I should change some thing in my way of dealing with her…"

"Dawson I don't want to get in the middle of the two of you I love you both and you're my friends I don't want to take sides or say something that you or Brett could take the wrong way but it's going to be my wedding and I want to be special and I want to be surrounded by my friends that's all I want"

"You're right and I'm not trying to ask you to take sides I'm just a little bit lost. Brett said that I spend too much time with Louis and none enough time with her but I'm on mom now do you think she's right?"

"I think you're a very good mother probably the best I've ever seen and your son is very lucky so yes, you put your son first but probably like every other parent would. You shouldn't feel guilty about that and I know that Brett didn't mean it. She is very much lost but it will get better"

Gabby nodded and let out a sigh, hoping her friend was right. Suddenly the bell went off calling the ambulance to a car crash. Gabby quickly stood up and ran out of the room leaving Kidd on her own.

As the ambulance was driving back from the scene both paramedic were silent, not talking and ignoring each other probably for the best. Gabby was well aware that she needed to respect Brett because she was the PIC and because they were friend and needed to work together. But obviously she felt like her superior was not respecting her. But they were mature enough to put their problems aside and be able to work together.

Gabby had promised to Stella that everything would be fine at the wedding and it was really important to the woman to actually respect her promise. This day was not about Brett or about herself, it was about Stella and Kelly and their love and they deserve to be surrounded by the people they loved without having to worry about whether or not they were able to get along.

When they had pulled up to the scene Brett had really quickly been yelling orders to Gabby which wasn't really the right thing to do. They were both really good at their job and they were so great together because they knew where to stand with each other. Gabby knew not to try and be the superior when obviously she wasn't and Brett knew that she shouldn't be saying to Gabby what to be doing on her job.

But on the call, Brett had been pushing orders while Gabby was trying to take the lead because she felt like Brett wasn't in the best headspace and felt like they needed to be quick. They were both doing shitty things obviously but it was having some repercussion on their work and the way they did their job.

Getting at the firehouse Gabby wanted to clean the back of the ambo but apparently Sylvie was ready to give her a piece of her mind.

"Dawson I'm your PIC you're supposed to respect what I'm asking you to do" she shot not letting Dawson have to time to even process anything. "You gave up that place a long time ago, I am your superior I'm the one taking calls and making decision you can't just ignore them"

Gabby took a deep breath, not really wanting to be fighting with Brett, in the middle of the apparatus floor, but she also didn't like the way she was talking to her. "I'm doing my job and you are preventing me from doing that, you know very well not to tell me what to do when I'm working you know I'm well able to do my job you know where I'm standing I'm not trying to take your place or anything. That's what you have in your head though... That I'm trying to take your job, take your place but it's not true I'm doing my job like I was asked to."

"You're being unprofessional. You're putting everybody into our problems"

"I am?!" Gabby said raising your voice. "You're kidding me right?! We're fighting because you feel like I'm not here enough for you with your relationship with my brother. This is being unprofessional" she shot then.

"You getting Casey involved is as unprofessional as me doing what I am doing!" Brett said her face turning red, she was getting worked up. And as they were starting to get more and more angry and as their voices were starting to raise everybody started to get closer realizing that there are paramedics were not getting along at all.

"Casey is my husband obviously I'm going to involve him!" she shot back.

"Yeah and now because of you and Casey one of us is going to have to leave this firehouse because you can't work with me!" Brett yelled.

"What the hell is wrong here?!" Boden yelled, as both paramedics turned around, finally noticing all the looks of their colleagues.

Everybody seemed worried about them because they were not the kind to be yelling at each other or fighting on the job but right now they were. And from the look on Boden's face things were not going to settle down any time soon.

"Chief it's nothing" Brett mumbled.

"I want you two in my office, now!" Boden ordered, turning around to walk back inside the firehouse. "Casey Severide as well" he said.

Everybody stayed silent, not saying a thing. Gabby sighed and after looking back at her PIC she walked ahead, following the lieutenants.

Getting inside the office, Severide and Casey stood on the side, letting the two paramedics stand in front of Boden's desk. They were silent for a while. They were getting ready to be on the receiving end of an airfal.

"I have been working with you all for a long time, and I have never been more disappointed of your behaviors! I don't care what's happening between you all, I don't care why you can't put your problems aside, but it has to happen. What we do is a lot more important than anything else, and if you can't see that then maybe you shouldn't be working together!" Boden said angry. He viewed the people in this firehouse as his family, but he couldn't have them be so unprofessional. They needed to stick together, and be able to work together, because if the two paramedics couldn't do that, it could be dangerous for them, but also every member of this firehouse.

"Sorry chief, it won't happen again…" Gabby said looking down, a bit ashamed about her behavior.

"You two need to realize that if you can't work together, I'll have to make a decision about transferring someone! I am not doing that happily but if you two can't figure it out I'll have to make a choice! And this small war about who is leading, who should be the PIC and who should follow orders needs to stop!" Boden continued firmly. He really wanted for us paramedics to realize how stupid they were and how stupid getting into fight was while working. They were both great paramedics and he liked this team he knew they were great together and he didn't want their issues to come between them. He didn't want to have to separate them, but he also didn't want to have so much tension in his house.

Gabby looked up, surprised to hear that Boden was aware about the fact that Brett was worried about her PIC place. She quickly turned her head towards her husband sitting on his face the guilt, and at that precise moment she knew that he had probably talked to Boden about it even though she had asked him not to. And now she was not only angry at Brett, but she was angry at Casey for not respecting his words about not talking to their chief.

"Chief you're right but I am the PIC I'm supposed to take decision and I would like for my partner to respect the choice they make even if she doesn't agree with me that's the only thing that I'm asking for here. Dawson needs to respect the chain of command" Brett said not letting much time for Gabby to even try and defend herself. "You're right about us putting our problems aside and I'm ready to do it, but we can't work together if she doesn't respect what I'm asking her to do"

Gabby bitted her tongue not wanting to say anything that she could regret. She wasn't sure what was going on with Brett and why it was so hard for them to get along right now but she didn't want to play the immature one and she didn't want to have to explain herself either. She was just angry right now at Boden, Brett and Casey and she just wanted to leave this office.

She had been working for so long to become a paramedic and then a firefighter, as a PIC she had always tried to be the best leader that she could and when Shay died, she promised herself that she would be the best paramedic that she could for a friend. When Brett had arrived at the firehouse, Gabby took the hat of the teacher wanting to transmit everything that she knew for Sylvie to feel comfortable and be able to do her job. She had taught her how to be a good paramedic in Chicago and now she felt like Brett was forgetting that.

"I am sorry chief, it won't happen again" Gabby said after a moment not really sure what to say. She was definitely angry and disappointed of every person in the room, and she felt like maybe they were not understanding her side of the situation, but she didn't care, if things were not going to settle with Brett she wouldn't fight things.

"I hope you two heard me loud and clear" Boden said seeing both women nod.

Gabby cleared her throat and after another silent moment, she asked to leave the room, which Boden granted. She didn't want to see anyone, and she really hoped that she could keep her calm next time one of them would speak to her. Disappointment, that's what she felt.

A while later, Casey was in his office, finishing up his paperwork before the night. HE kept in mind the conversation with Boden, and he felt bad because he knew that he had made a mistake when talking to his chief about the tension between Brett and Dawson.

He was aware that his wife was angry at him, and he hated that, and her anger was valid, because he was the one bringing up the fact that maybe Gabby deserved her PIC spot back more than Brett.

Now, he hated the situation they were in, he hated that Gabby and Brett couldn't get along, and he didn't like the way Brett was treating her partner. And obviously he knew he couldn't be a 100% impartial.

After a moment, he snapped out of his thoughts when he noticed some movement from the bunk room. He saw Gabby standing next to her bunk, doing something with her bag. Matt stood up, and walked out of his office, wanting to make sure she was okay.

Gently he got closer, and cleared his voice not wanting to startle her as he was coming from behind her. "Hey" he said gently, as Gabby looked up from her bag, and turned around with a sigh.

"Yeah?" she asked coldly. She didn't really want to talk to anyone and was probably not ready to have a conversation with the lieutenant.

"I wanted to make sure you're okay…" Matt said, keeping his distance, he could see the tension in Gabby's body, he could feel that she was angry, and he hated that.

"Is it my husband or lieutenant asking?" Gabby asked bitting her lips trying not to sound too mad at him.

Matt looked at her, opening his mouth not exactly sure what to reply. "Gabby…"

"No! Okay… No! Cause I don't know whether or not you're trying to be a lieutenant here or my husband!" She said running a hand in her hair desperate to actually understand why Matt had gone to talk to Boden. "I asked my husband not to get involved, and you did anyways!" she finished as Matt sighed.

The lieutenant reached for her wanting to have a contact with her, hoping to calm her down but she pulled away. They looked at each other for a moment. Matt hated that, seeing her so mad and he could feel that maybe she didn't trust him anymore.

"Let's go in my office" He said after a long moment of silence. He saw on her face that she didn't want that at all. "Please" he continued hoping she'd go ahead. He knew that Gabby would probably be yelling soon, and he didn't want to do that in the middle of the bunk room for everybody to hear and see. "I am not asking as your husband, but as the lieutenant" he said then moving to go in his office.

Finally Gabby moved and followed him, standing in front the bed, as Matt closed the door. "Listen Gabby, I don't want to fight with you, and I know that I am in the wrong, but seeing you being treated the way Brett is treating you is driving me nuts. I know I messed up by talking to Boden about the tensions between you two but…"

"But nothing Matt! That's the thing!" Gabby snapped not letting him finish his sentence. "This is between Brett and I! I talked to my husband about my problems with my partner, not to the lieutenant you are!"

"Yeah and as your husband it's my job to make sure you're treated right by your superior and-"

Gabby sighed and crossed her arms over her chest. "How many times do we need to have this conversation! We are not husband and wife here!

"Then maybe you shouldn't tell me things you don't want me to know or things you don't want me to get involved into!" Matt said, knowing he didn't really have a valid point, but he just needed Gabby to understand his point of view.

"Then I can't tell you a thing! Because most problems here don't concern you but you're still a lieutenant in this house so when I come to my husband for problems at work I have to know you won't be keeping your tongue in your mouth!" Gabby replied feeling that Matt didn't seem to understand her point.

The lieutenant sighed again, and looked down at his wedding band he had not taken off for this shift. "I just wanted to help, and I know it's help you didn't want but…"

"Exactly! I didn't ask for your help, but you keep doing that! What does it say that you constantly think I need it!" Gabby yelled before leaving the room under Casey's look.

Matt was desperate to be on good terms with Gabby, he didn't want things to be so hard for them, and he hated the fact that they were getting into fights instead of being on the same side.

The lieutenant sat back down at his desk, wanting to try and finish his paperwork, hoping things would settle down.

A little while after dinner, Severide walked to Casey's office, and knocked at his door. He had been worried because he had not seen his friend ever since the talk with Boden in his office.

"Hey man, you okay?" Severide asked standing in the doorframe as Casey was sitting on his bed, just looking in the void.

"Yeah, what's up?" he asked snapping out of his thoughts.

"You talked to Dawson?"

Matt chuckled nervously, before shaking his head. "I feel like I am doing a shitty job as a lieutenant and as a husband, and everything is just a mess in my head, and I hate that I can't do anything to make things better." The blond man said letting out another deep sigh. "I love her, more than anything, and I hate that I can't help her, and I know I shouldn't have talked to Boden, but the situation with Brett, and the way she treats Gabby I can't handle that…"

Kelly nodded understanding how his friend felt. "Matt, you know I get your point, and I've never seen two people as in loved as you two are, if anyone can handle that it's the two of you. You have to think about how happy you two are right?"

"Yeah, but that's not it though…"

"You have to let her do her thing, don't get involved, only if she asks you to. You know Gabby, and you know how independent she is, you've got to trust her to handle things on her own" Kelly said trying to help his friend, well aware that having a partner on the job could be tricky.

"You know… The last week was probably one of the best we've spent in a while, but now I don't know anymore" Matt explained.

"You have to think positive, it's just another black cloud, you've gone through worse before, you'll figure it out" Kelly said patting Casey's back. "Remember I view you two as my model, I'd like you all to figure it out before the wedding" he said with a smile to lighten the mood.

"Yeah…" Matt replied looking down at his ring.

"You need a moment alone?" Kelly asked, he could see that his friend was not in the mood to talk much and he didn't want to add to that.

"Yeah that'd be great" he simply replied. Kelly nodded and after a sec he left his friend.

Matt kept looking in the void, just thinking about his girl, thinking about how much he hated this situation. They were so happy together, he didn't want that to be put in any kind of jeopardy.

He just thought about the last moments he had spent with Gabby, he needed to focus on that. On their love.

Casey was sitting on the edge of the bed, waiting patiently for his wife to come out of the bathroom. He would be lying if he said he wasn't nervous. He had been thinking about this moment ever since Gabby had admitted to him that she was late. And even though he had tried to push this thought aside for the rest of shift, he had been so excited to finally get home and find out whether of not they would be having a baby.

He was excited, and deep down he prayed for this time to be the one, but he could voice that out loud because Gabby wasn't as positive about it as he was. Matt knew that his girl was excited, that it was her biggest wish, for this test to come back positive, but after so long trying and being disappointed, he didn't want to add more to Gabby's frustration and disappointment if things didn't end up the way they wanted.

So, after shift, the couple quickly went for a run, to by the tests they needed, and got home. Unfortunately, they had to put that aside for a while because Louie was asking for attention of both his parents. And in the end they had spent the entire day being with Louie, making sure he was good, playing and going on a walk in the neighborhood.

After this very busy day, the parents had put Louie to bed and now was the time to find out. Matt was just there, texting Kelly about the bachelor party, waiting for his girl. And obviously his mind was more focused on his wife than anything else. He wished for the best, and he knew that no matter the results they'd be okay.

Hearing the bathroom's door opening, he lift up his head, meeting Gabby's eyes. Matt smiled and put his phone aside, wanting to give his wife all his attention.

"You okay?" he asked gently, as Gabby sat next to him after putting the test on her nightstand.

"Yeah…" she simply replied, her entire body showing how stressed and nervous she was.

"Good" Matt said running a hand over her arm.

"Is only Louie going to be enough?" She asked looking down, as Matt shook his head a bit confused by her question.

"Huh?" he just let out not sure what to say.

"If we don't have a baby, is Louie going to be enough? One child…" she said trying to make her point clearer, not meeting Matt's eyes.

Matt let out of a sigh, and after a second, he pulled her chin up for their eyes to meet. "All we need is Louie. If it's negative, then it's fine, just us is fine baby, I promise"

"I worry that one day you wake up and you start hating me for not having the family that you've dreamed of I don't want you to lose your dream because of me" She explained, her eyes filling with tears.

Matt's next reaction wasn't exactly what Gabby was expecting when he let go of a smile and a chuckle. "The only dream I have is you. As long as I have you, then I'll be okay, I'll be more than okay, actually I'll be perfect" he said getting from Gabby to lean into him.

"Thank you" she whispered then, as her phone went off, signaling that the results were up. She looked behind her at the test still standing on her nightstand and swallowed hard.

"Come on baby, it's time" Matt said gently giving her a bright smile knowing she was strong enough to go and find out.

Gabby stood up but instead of moving she sat back down, her face showing all the fears she carried inside of her. "I can't… Not again" she said then.

Matt ran a hand in her back, and kissed her cheek, wanting to make her feel better. "What can I do?" he asked then hatting to feel so helpless not being able to help the woman he loved.

Gabby let out a sigh, and ran a hand in Matt's hair, letting herself lost inside his perfect blue eyes. "I'd like you to tell me… if that's OK I would like you to look at the test and tell me the results" she said then.

"Baby, are you sure? I mean this is something that you should be doing, I don't want to take that away from you" he said then.

"Babe… A few years back I did the test hoping that it wouldn't be positive and it ended up being the scariest and best moment of my life and I was angry because I couldn't share that with you at the time. I've always wondered how I would tell you that I'm pregnant, that we're pregnant, the first time was special but complicated, this time it's different and I feel like you deserve to find out this way…" she explained. Gabriela always kept in mind the past and what happened to them a few years back and she would never let go of that because it was at some point the worst moment of her life but also the best… That's what brought them back together and she was grateful for it, today things were different and she wanted to share every single thing and moment with her husband.

Matt simply nodded, knowing that his wife might not have the strength to find out herself, and he didn't want to push her, he knew this entire situation wasn't easy. Of course he knew that Gabby would always be able to face tough obstacle, she was a strong woman, she'll always be and he was so proud of her.

After a few moments of silent Matthew finally stood up and walked to the other side of the bed ready to find out whether or not they would be having a baby. He felt a bit nervous, he knew that no matter the resort everything would be okay but deep down he really hoped it could be positive because he didn't think Gabby could handle another disappointment and he didn't want to be the one announcing her this.

As he was about to take the test to finally find out the results he raised his head one more time to look at his perfect wife, he could tell just by looking at her that she was worried, that she was anxious and scared. He gave her a small note and a smile as to reminder that they were together in this and that she was loved.

He picked up the test, and from where Gabby was sitting she can tell the results she can see much emotion on his face he was not letting anything appear. And for some reason Gabby knew that once again the test wouldn't be positive, because she would have expected from med to be smiling or yelling out of pure joy but he wasn't.

"It's negative isn't it?" She simply asked disappointment in her voice.

In a split second, Matt looked up and a wide smile finally formed over his face but genuine happy smile. "We're having a baby" he said tears forming in his eyes as Gabby just looked at him in shock, not knowing what to say or if it was the truth, if it was real.

"No, we're not" She replied not really sure Matt was hallucinating or something.

"We are!" Matt said then his eyes still focused on the test, not wanting to look up for too long, worried that it would fade away the second he'd look away. "Baby, we are having a baby" Matt said as his tears finally left his blue eyes. He quickly walked to his girl, still focused on the test and passed it to her, wanting her to see for herself what he was seeing. "Gabby, you're pregnant!" Matt said out of pure joy.

Gabriela looked at the test for a moment in disbelief unable to form any kind of words but her entire body wanting to scream out loud for happiness. They have been waiting for so long to finally be there and all her worries and all the pain that she felt had suddenly vanished as if they'd never been there. She finally saw what Matt was saying, the word "pregnant" on this plastic stick.

"I am pregnant" she let out as a whisper still not fully believing any of it. But when she felt Matt's hand running in her back, and she was suddenly back in this room with her lover finally realizing that their dream had come true.

She looked up at Matt, who's eyes were so full of tears, happy tears. Gabby reached for Matt and pulled him in a deep loving kiss. At this precise moment nothing nor anyone could take their happiness away. They were happy and grateful.

Matt pulled back cradling Gabby's face into his hand looking at her with so much passion and love so much admiration and gratefulness. "I love you so much" he said whipping away some tears that were still falling down her face.

"We are having a baby" Gabby said letting out a sob pulling her husband in a hug.

"We are my love" Matt whispered holding her as tight as he could. "I am so proud of you"

"Thank you, baby" she said still crying not being able to calm down, feeling a rush of love and pride for her husband and their family. "Thank you for keeping faith"

"Of course baby, I am so happy, you're making me so happy" Matt said kissing her head before pulling away gently. He looked at his girl, his eyes full of love. Gently he brought his left hand to caress her belly. "There's a baby in there" he said with a childish voice.

"Yeah, there is" Gabby said with a chuckle running a hand in his hair as Matt put a gentle kiss to her stomach.

"I love you so much my baby" he whispered to the belly, making Gabby's heart melt, loving to hear him already so happy about their child to come.

Matt looked up at Gabby to see more tears fall from her eyes. He stood up suddenly a bit worried not sure if her tears were happy tears or not. "Baby… Are you okay?" he asked worried. He wasn't fully sure what she was feeling. "Babe, talk to me"

"I… I've been dreaming of this moment… I've been dreaming of this since I met you, and it's better than in my dreams" she simply said her smile reappearing on her beautiful face.

Matt smiled and pulled his girl in another hug "It's our dream sweet girl" he said as they laugh together, sharing this amazing moment together, so grateful for this new life they had created. Looking forward to a new journey as a family.

Matt smiled remembering this moment, his chest filling with a deep warmth, he was happy, they had been happy to find out they were having a baby, he would never take that for granted.

He had messed up, and he needed to apologize and fix things with Gabby, so quickly he stood up and walked out of his office ready to go find his girl.

The lieutenant walked in the coat room where he found Gabby sitting on the floor between the coats, silently.

Slowly, Matt walked to her, when she looked up, tears streaming down her face. Matt sighed, hating to see her so upset.

"Gabby… I am sorry" he said, knowing that wouldn't prevent her from crying.

"I know…" she whispered. "I am too…" she continued. She looked drained, exhausted, like she was just ready to give up of her anger.

Matt knelt down in front of her, putting a hand on her knee. "I made a mistake, and I am sorry, I know you're disappointed in me. All I wanted to do was for you to be treated the right way, but I shouldn't have gotten involved, and that won't happen again, I promise you" he said, his voice holding so much hope and love for this woman.

"We are both idiots" Gabby whispered shaking her head.

"Yeah…" Matt replied. "Listen, Gabby, I don't want our couple to be in jeopardy, I love you, I love Louie, and I love our baby to come, I care for our family, and I wouldn't change it for the world, all I did was for you to be okay, and I know I shouldn't have, and I am really sorry." He said. He wanted to promise her that he would be a better husband and a better lieutenant, and that he would do everything he could to separate these two jobs.

"I don't want you to change the way you work, the way you act around me at home or at 51, I just need to know you're aware that I can handle things on my own" Gabby said gently.

Matt smiled and caressed her cheek. "You're more than capable, I know that. You're an amazing paramedic, an amazing wife, and the best mother I've ever seen. I am crazy about you, you know that and I just want us to be in this happy place again."

"Me too" she replied wiping away her tears. "I want us to get back to celebrating our baby, I want us to just be so happy again"

"It does sound great!" Matt said slowly bending to kiss her forehead. "I love you"

"I love you too" Gabby said finally offering a smile to Casey. "I just want to be alone for a while"

"Of course, anything you want." Matt replied standing up. He was glad that she had a smile on her face, and the fact that there was the bachelorette party would probably help as well for her to just take a breather from them.
