On Mother's Day, almost a couple of months later (May 12th), Topanga decided to have a party for all of the mothers, including KC. They asked me and Marley to go, so they'd have some live music. All of them, except KC, Marley, and I, decided to drink some alcohol.
Katy started stumbling. She sat down.
KC turned to me with an embarrassed look on her face.
"Oh, my gosh," she told me. "My mom's drunk."
"Yeah, she's a lightweight," Topanga said, with a laugh. "She only had two drinks."
Katy started talking.
"You know the best thing about Shawn?" She questioned the other women. "He treats me way better that either of the idiots I was with before. Kermit left so much before he actually left. He was only concerned about what he was feeling. Never thought about me or Maya. And even though he said he did… he didn't care abou-u-t Katy Carmela." She looked over at KC. "Shawnie loves both of my girlies. Farkle loves my oldest little girl, and Joshua loves my Maya."
KC raised her eyebrows, looking like she was about to laugh. The way she was talking made her want to laugh even though it was genuine statements.
"Love you, mom," she told her.
"You know what?" She questioned. "Farkie, fire up that guitar." Now it was my turn to laugh. "I've got somethin' to sing."
"Alright," I said with an amused smile. I grabbed my electric guitar. Marley got behind the drums.
KC handed her a mic. Katy whispered to me the song she wanted to do. It was very fitting for what she was saying. I told KC and Marley the song. I started playing and they started singing. (Katy, KC, Both)
Na-na-na-na, na-na, na/ Na-na-na-na na-na/ Na-na-na-na, na-na, na/ Na-na-na-na na-na
I guess I just lost my husband/ I don't know where he went/ So I'm gonna drink my money/ I'm not gonna pay his rent (Nope)/ I got a brand new attitude/ And I'm gonna wear it tonight/ I wanna get in trouble/ I wanna start a fight/ Na-na-na-na, na-na, na/ I wanna start a fight/ Na-na-na-na, na-na, na/ I wanna start a fight!
KC started rocking out.
So, so what?/ I'm still a rock star/ I got my rock moves/ And I don't need you/ And guess what?/ I'm having more fun/ And now that we're done/ I'm gonna show you tonight/ I'm alright/ I'm just fine/ And you're a tool/ So, so what?/ I am a rock star/ I got my rock moves/ And I don't want you tonight
Uh, check my flow, uh
KC laughed.
The waiter just took my table/ And gave it to Jessica Simps/ I guess I'll go sit with drum boy/ At least he'll know how to hit (Oops)/ What if this song's on the radio?/ Then somebody's gonna die/ I wanna get in trouble/ My ex will start a fight/ Na-na-na-na, na-na, na/ He's gonna start a fight/ Na-na-na-na, na-na, na/ We're all gonna get in a fight
KC started jumping.
You weren't there/ You never were/ You want it all/ But that's not fair/ I gave you life/ I gave my all/ You weren't there/ You let me fall
So, so what?/ I'm still a rock star/ I got my rock moves/ And I don't need you/ And guess what?/ I'm having more fun/ And now that we're done (We're done)/ I'm gonna show you tonight/ I'm alright (I'm alright)/ I'm just fine (I'm just fine)/ And you're a tool/ So, so what?/ I am a rock star/ I got my rock moves/ And I don't want you tonight (I don't want you tonight)
No no, no no/ I don't want you tonight
You weren't there
I'm gonna show you tonight (I'm gonna show you tonight)
I'm alright (I'm alright)
I'm just fine/ And you're a tool/ So, so what?/ I am a rock star/ I got my rock moves/ And I don't want you tonight (I don't want you tonight)
Ooooo-hoo!/ Ba-da-da-da-da
After that performance, we all decided to call it a night. I drove to their apartment building. Shawn met us in the hall to take drunk Katy into their apartment. KC and I went into her apartment.
"So, is Aaron staying over at Lucas'?" I asked my girlfriend.
"Yeah," she said. "Why?"
I dipped and kissed her. I pulled her back up.
"Wow," she said, taking a breath. She chuckled. "He'd probably say 'gross!'. Are you trying to be spontaneous like my dad?" She gave me a look.
"I like surprising you sometimes," I told her.
She wrapped her arms around my neck and looked in my eyes. She leaned in and we started kissing. She stumbled back and we fell onto the couch. We both laughed and started kissing again. I could feel myself almost fall off the couch, so I tried to grab the cushion. I didn't realize where my hand had actually landed until I felt her skin. Her breath hitched. She started shaking. I immediately removed my hand from her hip and moved off of her. She was having a panic attack.
"KC…" I said, not sure what to say.
I started to freak out myself, but kept it in my head. I wasn't going to make it worse by having an external panic attack when she already was. I sat on the floor and took her hand in mine, softly. It was the only thing I could think to do.
After a few minutes she squeezed my hand. She sat up and let me sit next to her.
"I'm sorry," I apologized.
"You don't need to apologize, Farkle," she told me. "It's not your fault."
"I didn't mean to touch you there, I promise," I told her. "I know you want to wait. I do too."
"I know that, Farkle," she said. "I had a flashback. That's why I had the panic attack. It had nothing to do with you. Don't ever blame yourself when it happens, please."
"Okay," I said, with an understanding nod. I looked down at where her shirt was still slightly up and saw that her hip was permanently bruised. "He touched you there a lot, didn't he?"
"Every single time he got the chance," she said. "Every time he…" she closed her eyes then opened them again, taking a deep breath, "every time he raped me…he would hold them so tight that I'd keep getting bruises there."
"What can I do?"
"Just…love me," she told me. "Please, don't leave me."
"I love you," I told her, opening my arms. She let me pull her into her a hug. "I'm never leaving you."
"I love you, too," she told me.
"You're an amazing mother."
"I'm glad I spent all day with Aaron today until the party," she said. "Then he wanted to go with Lucas. He loves it over there. I think it's because of Lucas' video games."
We both chuckled.
She laid her head on my shoulder.
"Happy Mother's Day, KC," I told my girlfriend.
"Thanks," she told me. She started laughing. She pulled away. I looked at her. "I can't believe my mom did that tonight."
"I know," I said. "I can't believe she called me Farkie."
"Even though it's not good that she was drunk," KC said, "it was funny seeing her acting like a dork."
"Yeah," I agreed. "You had a lot of fun doing that song."
"Yeah," she said, with a smile.
I intertwined our hands with my palm on the back of her hand. She laid her head on my shoulder again. I kissed her head.
After a bit, I heard her breathing slow down and her head became heavier on my shoulder. She fell asleep. I slowly laid down. Her head fell onto my chest. I grabbed the blanket hanging on the back of the couch and carefully placed it over both of us.
I texted Josh and let him know that she fell asleep on my shoulder, so I was staying over. He replied that it was fine and that he'd see me tomorrow.
I placed my phone on the coffee table. I wrapped my arms around my sleeping girlfriend and closed my eyes.
