Rose woke to find that she tossed and turned most of the night. She sat up; she didn't think that it was Scorpius not sleeping in the bed next to her. She wondered why he didn't put up more of a fight to sleep in their room. Rose slipped on slippers before going downstairs to get a cup of much needed tea.
She reached the end of the stairs when she saw that Scorpius was sleeping on the couch. He was still in the shirt and pants that he wore to work the day before. There was an empty plate on the coffee table. Along with the plate were folders open. Rose saw that his briefcase was by the table. She looked back at her husband to see that he had one leg hanging off the couch. She saw a day growth on his face. She wanted to reach over and move his hair out of his face, but she was still mad at him for coming home late. She glanced at the clock to see that Scorpius should be at work right now.
"Scorpius," She said his name. She watched him wake up, she always loved watching him wake up. It has been a while since she watched him wake up. His blue eyes turned to her. Rose pointed to the clock. "You are late for work," Rose made her way to the kitchen.
Scorpius jumped off the couch, throwing papers all over the place. He would have to get those later. He needed to talk to Rose. "Rose," He said her name to stop her. Rose stopped and turned to look at him. "Why are you angry at me?" He asked. He could make out why she would be mad at him. They were going to have a baby, he thought that they were in a good place.
Rose closed her eyes and took a sigh. She didn't know where to start. Did she tell him that he hasn't been around a lot? That she felt lonely when he wasn't around? Should she tell him that this isn't how she pictured their marriage going? Or the tipping point when he didn't come home last night, so she could tell him the news in person. She thought that he might cut back on work once he knew about the baby. "Scorpius, I asked you to be home by seven last night, so I could tell you about the baby," Tears were welling up in her eyes again. She thought that she cried enough tears last night. "You didn't come home until midnight."
"When did you ask me to come home early?" Scorpius stuffed his hands in his pockets. He didn't like that he was the one that was making her cry. He couldn't punch himself for hurting her. He didn't see anything or see her calling him yesterday. If she asked for the world, he would give it to her.
Rose wiped a tear that had leaked out. "I sent you a note yesterday before I found out," She looked him in the eyes. "Even if I wasn't pregnant, we could have spent the night together."
"I never got that note because I would have been home. I'm sorry," Scorpius said softly.
Rose wanted to yell at him about always working and not being home. She wanted to tell him that she missed him and just wanted to be them. She took one look and saw how sorry he was for missing last night. All those words died on her lips. She took a breath before saying. "Scorpius, please answer me if I write to you?" She asked. It might be a start for them.
He reached forward and cupped her face. "I promise," He leaned forward and kissed her.
Some part of Rose wanted to believe him, but something was stopping her. She didn't know if she could trust him right now. She broke out of his arms. "You should shower before going to work." Rose gave a weak grin. Scorpius let out a laugh before turning away from her.
Rose sat at one of the chairs at the table. She buried her face in her hands. She didn't know why she didn't tell him how she was feeling. It might have been the way he looked. He didn't like that he was hurting her. She should have told him that he was hurting her longer than what happen last night. Why was she so quiet?
She felt her ring warm on her finger. She has been quiet because she didn't want to hurt him.
Scorpius came down again. There was a smile on his face. He kissed her cheek and placed a hand on her still flat stomach. "I am very happy that we are having a baby," Rose nodded. "Please keep me updated. I would like to be at the first appointment with the midwife." Rose nodded again. Scorpius kissed her again before gathering his things and leaving.
Scorpius entered his office to see that his secretary was already there. "Miss Washington," Scorpius called her name.
"Yes, Mr. Malfoy," Miss Washington smiled at him.
"Did I get a note from my wife yesterday?" Scorpius asked.
Kerry Washington looked where she had his mail and where the notes that he got from his wife were. She knew what note he was talking about. She took a sigh before pulling it out. "I'm sorry, it must have got caught up in some of my papers," She handed it to him.
"Please make sure that I'm getting any notes from my wife?" Scorpius asked. Kerry nodded, but Scorpius was already making his way to his office. Kerry saw that he was reading the note. Kerry waited until he was in his office before frowning. She was going to have to make sure that he saw the next few notes from his wife, or he is going to think that she had something to do with him not getting the notes. Kerry needed him to come to her side, it was part of her grand plan.
Rose made an appointment to see a midwife. She also wrote to Vic to see when her first appointment was. Rose told her that her appointment was in the next couple of days and Rose found out that it was the same for Vic. They made plans to have lunch after their appointments. Rose took a breath as she wrote to Scorpius about the appointment and lunch plans with Vic and Teddy. She hoped that he would be there.
After she was done writing Vic, she got an invite from her mother-in-law to have tea with her. Rose smiled, Astoria would be a good person to talk about starting a charity or getting involved in one. Rose told her that she would be there at one.
Rose made her way to the sitting room to find that Astoria and Ariadne were there. Rose hugged each of them before sitting. They asked about how she was doing and how married life was treating her. Rose asked Ariadne about school shopping with her friends. Rose was happy about having this time with them.
"There is something that I would like to ask you about," Rose asked her mother-in-law. Astoria nodded. "I know that you are in a lot of charities. I was wondering what you are involve in and is there a way to make our own."
Astoria smiled. "You need something to do with your time," Rose nodded. "I think it's a good idea for you to get involve. Are there things that are close to your heart?"
"Education for everyone. I know that it is hard for some families to go to Hogwarts. I know that there is a fund for students that need it, but I feel that we can do more. I have a thing for children who want to follow their dreams but can't because of some reason. I have an opportunity to follow my dreams. I want others to follow their dreams too." Rose said. "I also want to help at St. Mungo's Hospital."
Astoria got a look in her eyes. "I think that I can help you. I'm part of a charity for the hospital. We meet once month; you can come with me to one. For other you might have to talk to the governors of the school board. I think that you know one and I know another to set something up about adding extra programs at the school to help students find their dreams."
Rose smiled. It seemed like Astoria was ready for a change and Rose could help with that. She knew that her uncle was on the board for Hogwarts, and he would help her. She wondered who Astoria knew because a Malfoy hasn't served on the board since after the war. "Who do you know on the board?" She asked.
"My own father," Astoria smiled. "He has served for many years. He loves you and thinks you are what my son needs. I don't see him being a problem. And I don't see your uncle being a problem either."
"No, Uncle Harry will help us in any way that we need it." Rose said. "Please let me know when the hospital meeting is, so I can be there with you."
"The next meeting is the beginning of September and it will be here," Astoria smiled. It was a smile that had Rose worried. She felt that her mother-in-law had something up her sleeve. Rose nodded.
They spent the next hour talking about what they could do to help the wizarding community. Rose loved the brainstorming with Astoria and Ariadne threw her few cents in there too. Astoria looked between her daughter and daughter-in-law and knew there was a change in the air.
Rose got home to the smell of food cooking. She pulled out her wand to see who was there, because she didn't think that Scorpius would be home. She glanced at the clock to see that it was only six. She made her way to the kitchen and saw Scorpius with his body in the oven. He was pulling something out. He set it on the stove, before closing the stove. He took off the oven mitts before turning to her.
"Hello, Rose," He smiled. "I came home early to spend time with you. I got your note and I realized that I wanted to be with you," He made his way over to her. "I know that I hurt you last night and it didn't sit well with me," Scorpius moved a piece of hair out of her face. "I also took the day off tomorrow."
"You did?" Rose was surprised that he would do that. She thought that he would be there for the appointment and maybe lunch than go back to work.
Scorpius nodded and kissed her. After he broke the kiss, Rose watched him set the table for dinner in an apron that they got from their wedding. Rose stood there watching him. He placed the food on the table.
"Rose, please take a seat," Rose took a seat and Scorpius took the seat next to her. He took her hand and kissed it. "I love you," He said before letting her hand go so, they could eat.
Rose had to think. Maybe she didn't need to tell him how lonely she has been feeling with him working all the time. Maybe things will be changing while she is pregnant with their child. There was a little voice in her head telling her that she to tell him, but she ignored it because her husband was by her side.
They finished dinner, cleaned everything up before going upstairs to celebrate the new life they created.
Rose woke in Scorpius' arms. She watched him sleep for a second. She saw peaceful he looked. She moved a piece of hair out of his face. She knew when he was awake when he smiled. She leaned over and kissed him. Scorpius pulled her close. Scorpius broke the kiss and started to kiss her neck. Rose knew where this was going to go, and they needed to be at their appointment in a couple of hours. Rose pulled away from him.
"We need to get ready for our appointment," Rose got out of the bed and headed for the bathroom. Before she closed the door, she heard.
"Do we have to have lunch with our cousins after the appointment?"
"Yes," She said as she closed the door.
After they ate, they headed for the Birthing Center, where their appointment was going to take place. They entered the building and made their way to the front. The woman behind the counter smiled at them. Rose smiled at her before giving her name. They were told to take a seat.
They didn't have to wait long before Rose's name was called. They went behind a set of doors and were put in a room. The midwife in training ran some tests before telling Rose to wait and their midwife will be with them.
"Hello, I'm June Turner, your new midwife," June said. She gave them a smile. "Rose Malfoy," She looked down at Rose's chart.
"Yes," Rose pointed to Scorpius. "This is my husband, Scorpius." If June recognized them, she didn't let it show.
She gave them a look before saying. "I can confirm that you are having a baby." Rose and Scorpius traded a smile. They were happy that it was true. "I guessing you want to see your baby."
"If that is possible, then yes." Rose smiled.
"It is. Can you please lay back and pull up your shirt?" June smiled. Rose leaned back and pulled up her shirt. June touched her wand to Rose's stomach. A blue bubble appeared. "This is your baby," June pointed out a shape that was like a peanut. They could hear a heartbeat. Rose reached for Scorpius' hand. "It looks like you are about six weeks." June took some notes before having the bubble disappear. "Your baby will be here in late April or early May."
"When can we know the sex of the baby?" Rose asked.
June smiled. "Around twenty weeks." They talked about what Rose needed to do to have a healthy pregnancy. June was sure that they should have a good one with Rose being so young. They left with their next appointment date.
They were all smiles when they met Vic and Teddy at a small café in Diagon Ally. Rose and Vic talked about how their appointments went. They found out that they had the same midwife. They compared when their next appointment and decided that they would make this a standing lunch after their appointments. Rose couldn't shake the smile that appeared on her face in the morning because everything was looking up.
