A huge weight had been lifted off of Vol's shoulders the moment Vox said those words. Even if it wasn't his fault, he still felt like he could've done something and got to Vox earlier. The image of seeing Val on top of Vox, violating him repeatedly had been burned into his skull, forcing him to break into a sweat from guilt that plagued his nightmares.
Even if Vox didn't remember it, Vol couldn't dare forget it. It was the most sick, twisted thing had to witness in his months upon months of existence, to see Val violating someone who was supposed to be his lover was disgusting.
He knew damn well that Vox wasn't innocent, but what Val did was completely uncalled for, an act he did solely for his own pleasure, knowing that Vox wouldn't remember being assaulted and had it not been for Vol's interference, would've lived the rest of his afterlife unaware of what Val had truly done.
Thankfully, it seemed that ever since that day, Vox and Vol's relationship had improved, it now seemed like they were finally becoming friends(something neither prior would've believed would occur until the less than desirable circumstances forced the bond to spark).
Still, he couldn't help but feel something different. It wasn't related to the incident at the Studio(thankfully) but rather a different subject entirely. It was about one specific person that he couldn't get out of his mind….
Vol clutched his head, a throbbing pain that had been present in his mind starting once again,"Gngh…"
"What's wrong?" Alastor asked,"You seem rather bothered, Vol. Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, I'm just feeling...odd today. More odd than usual, that is…"
"Mind telling us what's on your mind?" Vox asked, the TV Demon tilted his head in the direction of the fusion with a raised eyebrow,"It's nothing related to what we talked about earlier, right?"
"Oh no, it's not like that, thankfully. It's just that...someone has been on my mind for a while and I can't stop thinking about them. I don't quite understand why, but this odd feeling is rather concerning to me…"
"Who exactly are you thinking about?" Alastor inquired,"We'd probably be able to advise you if we knew…"
"I...I…" He then mumbled something under his breath, muttering a sentence that was incomprehensible.
"What was that?" Alastor asked again in a teasing voice,"We can't hear you, speak up!"
"You gotta be a bit louder, Vol," Vox cooed,"We can't help you if you're being shy."
"I'm not shy!" He hissed, shooting the two overlords harsh glares,"I'm just…just…"
Al prodded further,"Just what?"
"Just...not sure how to go about this…" He huffed, arms folded over his chest, eyes averted to the side.
"Go about what? What are you trying to say here? We can't understand if you keep acting aloof."
"I…I…" Vol then took a deep breath, pinching between the bridge of his nose,"Look, if I'm going to tell you two this, you have to promise me you won't react, laugh or make fun of me, got it?"
"Hm…" Alastor mused,"I don't know, you'll have to tell me first before I come to a decision on that one."
"Not helping…" He hissed, flashing the Radio Demon a glare.
"Aw come on, Vol. Quit being a baby, just tell us. We're all grown men here, there's no need to be shy…"
Vol scoffed,"Alright fine, since you're so insistent. Since you two won't stop pestering me, I suppose I can tell you. I've been harboring this strange feeling with my chest for quite some time. I..I don't know how to explain it, but whenever I see Velvet...I feel this strange pain in my heart…"
Vox blinked before smirking,"Aw Vol, does someone have a crush~"
"You said you wouldn't mock me," He growled,"Quit going back on your word."
"I'm not, I'm just saying that you've got a crush. No need to be so defensive…" Vox replied,"Seriously, it's alright to admit your feelings, Vol…"
"Easy for you to say," Vol grumbled with a visible pout,"I've never experienced such romantic feelings before, you cannot expect me to be comfortable with these… emotions. They are fairly strange and I don't like feeling this way..."
"Vol, you're exaggerating," Vox said,"I mean, don't you think you're overreacting about this?"
"Actually, I don't believe he is," Alastor mentioned, rubbing his chin,"It does make sense for Vol to act this way considering his background. I know it's hard to remember, but despite Vol looking and acting like an adult, he's not even a year old. He never had a normal upbringing nor does he have any actual parents like we do. He's essentially a child, all things considered."
"Who the hell do you think you are calling me a child?" Vol snarled, sounding offended by the comment,"I'm a grown adult, thank you very much. Just because a crystal created me not that long ago doesn't mean I'm not an adult. I don't appreciate this sentiment of being babied…"
"I'm not babying you, I'm just stating facts. While you don't like being considered a child, you are basically one in certain aspects. You never had an actual childhood and were thrusted into adulthood, thus when you feel 'romantic' feelings for the first time, you don't know what to do with them and try to ignore/hide them at all times. Something a young child would do with their crush."
"I'd appreciate you not throwing out the child-like comparisons," Vol hissed,"It sounds demeaning."
"I'm not doing it to insult you, I'm just saying, this behavior of yours is probably because of a lack of proper parental figures in your life. Hell, Vox and I are probably the closest things you can call to parents at this point."
Vol rolled his eyes,"I don't consider you two parents. That's just weird."
"I mean, we technically are. You are more or less a fusion of us, but you lack the experience we have. We lived our lives and had families, you didn't," Vox said,"Not like that's a bad thing. We can always teach you in areas you're….lackluster your emotions are a bit...out of tune, so why don't we help you with that?"
"How the hell would you two help me again?"
"Oh come on, Vol. I mean, I doubt Alastor can help you in the romantic department, but as someone with experience in romance with both genders, I believe I could advise you on how to go about this."
"Are you kidding me?" Alastor asked,"I may have no experience in romance, but I at least know how to form a decent relationship with someone. You of all people shouldn't be talking about romance after what happened not too long ago."
"Hey, that wasn't my fault," Vox growled,"It's not my fault Val was an asshole. I fucking tried to change him, it didn't work."
"Oh my god, can you two stop arguing?" Vol asked,"It's not helping the matter. I'd prefer if you two were silent because this is not doing anything for me."
"Well if you let us help we would…"
"How do you plan on helping me exactly?"
"Well considering you've got feelings for Vel, why don't you let us help you? You seem like you need a bit of a confidence booster since you're a bit shy."
"I'm not shy…"
"Then why haven't you acted on your feelings yet?"
"Because...I...don't..know...how…" The fusion said softly,"I just...don't know how…"
"Aw, don't be shy, Vol. I'm sure all you need is a push in the right direction. How about we start simple? Why don't you pretend that Velvet is in front of you and you're going to confess your feelings for her?"
"That is dumb, I'm not confessing my feelings to someone who isn't even there…"
"Hm, if you're gonna be that way then weren't going to need to try something else, hold on, I got an idea…" Vox then turned to Alastor and said,"Alright, now, Al. Hold still, I gotta get these lace hair ties onto you."
"You're not putting any items inside my hair, Vox…" Alastor growled, eyes narrowing.
"Yes I am, now hold still and quit being a bitch!" Vox snarled as he tackled Alastor and tried to get him to sit still. Vol stood there in disbelief as the other version of his components were duking it out, screaming and fighting like madmen."Hold still motherfucker!"
"Get off of me you lunatic!"
"Not until I'm finished, bastard!"
Eventually, Vox managed to get Alastor's hair in pigtails, albeit just barely. Even then, Vox narrowly managed to avoid getting his face punched in.
Alastor's eye twitched rapidly at the hair ties inside his hair,"Grrrr…"
"Quit whining," Vox scoffed,"We need an example for Vol to use."
"Why couldn't you do it?"
"Oh gee, I wonder fucking why!" Vox shouted as he motioned to his head,"It's not like I don't have hair in the first place, am I right?" Sarcasm was just oozing from his voice as he sent his rival a 'you fell right into that one, bitch,' look.
"I still don't get why I have to have my hair like this."
"So that you can look like Velvet, duh."
"I look nothing like her!" Alastor hissed,"No sloppy hair-tie is going to make me look like Velvet!"
"It's the best I could do considering I doubt I'd be able to get your sorry ass in a dress without you having a hissy fit of epic proportions. Wearing these hair-ties is the least you can do!" Vox retorted before smiling at Vol,"Alright now, the plan is simple. All you gotta do is pretend that Alastor is Velvet and confess your feelings for her."
Vol cringed,"Vox, I get you're trying to help but this really doesn't feel right…"
"Come on, Vol. Don't be shy, just pretend that he's Velvet. It's not that hard. Go for it."
Vol looked at Alastor, his breath heaving. Averting his gaze, the fusion deciding to play along and 'pretend' to confess his feelings for 'Velvet'."Err...Hey there...Al-"
"Ahem!" Vox interrupted.
"Velvet.." Vol corrected himself, rolling his eyes at Vox's interjection.'Yeah fucking right. It's Alastor with bow ties in his hair. Whatever, just pretend it's her and maybe it won't be so bad."Hey, Velvet. I was just thinking...about...you…"
Yup, they were off to a bad start. Vol sounded like he was dying slowly just by every word he was saying.
Alastor asked,"And? What do you mean by that, Vol? You have to be specific."
"I….I…."
Vox facepalmed,"No, no no. Vol, you gotta sound confident. You're stumbling over yourself. That's no way to confess your feelings."
"Shut up!" The fusion growled,"I'm not good at telling my feelings to people, especially like this."
"Well you have to learn, come on, get yourself together. I know you're capable of speaking your mind, don't be shy in a time like this."
Vol huffed,"Fine. I'll start over." He forced himself to maintain his composure,"You see Velvet. I was thinking about upgrading our relationship beyond friendship. I have been thinking about you in a special way and I really wish that we could...be together and all and stuff…"
"Cut! Cut!" Vox shouted,"That was awful! Absolutely the worst romantic proposal I've ever seen!"
"Shut up, Vox! I'm trying!"
"You're clearly not trying hard 're going to need a different strategy because you suck at roleplay."
"Yeah this isn't going to work," Alastor said as he removed the hair ties from his hair,"I believe that if Vol is ever going to confront his feelings that a different approach is necessary, especially considering your idea backfired heavily."
"Do you have any better ideas?" Vox asked flatly, the TV Demon shooting his rival a glare.
"Matter of fact, I believe I do!" Alastor chuckled,"Since Vol has trouble gathering his words, why not let his actions speak for him?"
"And how do you think we do that?"
"By giving our dear Velvet a gift of course! I'm not an expert but I believe everyone loves it when their loved ones! Why not give Velvet a gift of some kind? I'm sure she'll love it!"
"As nice as that sounds, what should I give her exactly? A phone?"
Alastor scoffed,"She already has one, what's the point in giving her another one? Besides, that doesn't exactly scream romantic. She'll probably just think you're being nice by giving her a new phone." He then snapped his fingers,"Aha! I got it, why not give her flowers? That's a classic! I've seen plenty of people give their loved ones flowers as a sign of their love!"
"That sounds so cliche…" Vox grumbled.
"It may be, but there's nothing wrong with going to a classic! Come on, Vol! Show us what you can create with your imagination! We'll see for ourselves if the gift is up to par!"
Vol nodded before summoning a large bouquet of purple roses.
"Ah, perfect!" Alastor said, smelling the flowers with a grin,"Hey Vox, why don't you try smelling the flowers! Oh wait, I forgot that you don't have a nose!" Alastor laughed, Vox rolling his eyes at his humor.
"Ha ha, very fucking funny, Bambi…"
"Oh come on, don't be so down! Besides, even if you can't smell them, why don't you take a nice look at them? I believe there are even multi-colored petals here!"
Vox sighed before kneeling down to get a better look at the flowers,"I don't see any multi-colored petals-AAAAAAHHHHHH!" Vox let out a static screech when he got sprayed with a face-full of water, now being blasted away.
"Uhh…" Vol blanked,"Was that supposed to happen?"
Alastor shook his head,"No, but it was funny."
"This isn't helping at all…" Vol grumbled, pinching the bridge between his nose,"You two are too focused on trying to one-up each other to be of any help. I'll do this myself, thanks for the effort, but I believe that it will be better if I do this alone."
"Vol wait-"
Vol already left before Vox could finish, the TV Demon groaning,"Dammit, that was a waste of time. Thanks a lot Alastor."
"Oh shut up, don't act like you didn't do anything either….This is your fault just as much as it is mine."
"So now what? Vol is gonna fuck this up at this rate…"
"Hm...perhaps we can try intervening, albeit with a different approach."
"How so? The things we did backfired. Do you have any better ideas because everything we did was counterproductive…"
Alastor then leaned in, whispering in Vox's ear..or at least where his ear should be if he had a normal face to be exact. Vox blinked when Alastor explained his plan before raising an eyebrow,"Damn, are you sure about that? I mean, it's not like I haven't thought about it, but Vol might be...angry about that."
"Nothing wrong with a little fun while assisting our dear, Vol, am I right? Besides, as long as it's entertainment, I don't see why not…"
"This better work, Alastor…"
"Only one way to find out."
Vol sighed, he had spent some time prancing around the hotel, trying to gather the courage to confess his feelings.'Alright Vol, you can do this. Just have to confront Velvet and hope she says yes. Just stay calm and things will be fine...hopefully…'
As Vol walked down the hallway, he blanked when he heard giggling,"Hm? That sounds like Velvet. I wonder what she's laughing about…"
When he went over to investigate, he wasn't at all pleased when he saw Alastor and Vox sitting on a couch with Velvet between them.
'What the fuck are they doing this time?'
Vox chuckled,"So Velvet, we were just wondering, you single?"
"Uh...technically yeah, what's it to ya?" Velvet asked,"Are you guys interested or something?"
"Would we be asking if we weren't?"
"Don't you think it's a bit soon for ya to be in a deep relationship, Vox? You know, with the whole rape thing earlier?"
"Eh, its not like I remember it," Vox shrugged,"Besides, I know you would never drug/rape me anyway so I don't see why not. Considering we're stuck down here, I don't think it's too early to start fresh."
"Indeed! Besides, it's not like we have anything better to do!" Alastor added,"And what better way to be entertained than entering a relationship between multiple people? That certainly sounds interesting!"
"Aw gee, I can't believe it! I always wanted a real poly relationship! This is gonna be the best thing ever and-"
"Ahem!"
They all turned to see Vol giving them looks, Vol sending Alastor and Vox fierce death glares.
"Oh hey, Vol! What's up?" Velvet asked,"You seem rather upset, is something wrong?"
"Oh nothing," Vol replied, eye twitching,"I'm just a bit angry at what I'm seeing…" Vol turned to Vox and Alastor, now demanding,"What the hell are you two up to this time? I know you're up to something…"
"Like what? We're just being nice, Vol…"
"Nice my ass," Vol hissed,"You two knew what I was going to do and here you are trying to ruin it by getting to the prize first!"
"What prize? We're just talking with Velvet," Alastor said, feigning obliviousness,"We don't know what you're talking about."
"You know exactly what I'm talking about! Quit playing dumb, I know you two are up to something. What the hell do you two think you're doing pulling this on me? Are you trying to piss me off? Because that is a VERY bad idea…"
"Hey, calm down, we're just trying to have a bit of fun and spice up our lives, we don't mean any harm," Vox retorted.
"That's a terrible excuse, you two know what you're fucking doing! You KNEW I fucking liked Velvet and here you are fucking trying to get a date with her behind my back! You fuckers knew I loved her and yet you fucking decided to get with her to piss me off? Are you serious? Are you two THAT low!? Tell me!"
There was a moment of silence before Velvet asked,"Wait, you like me?"
'Oh shit…' Vol tensed, now realizing he just confessed his feelings in the most emotional and aggressive way possible.
"Err..I...I mean...yes...sort of...yeah…"
"Aw, there's no need to be shy!" Velvet exclaimed,"There's no need to be so upset! If you just wanted to be my real boyfriend, ya could've just said so!"
"I didn't know how...until this happened. This wasn't how it was supposed to go…"
"Well don't worry, I think there's a way for this to ALL work out! After all, my experience on fanfiction has told me that polyamory is the solution to love squares! If everyone's really into me, we can all date at the exact same time!"
"What? Are you kidding me? Velvet, you can't base your finding off of how a relationship works based on fanfiction! That's absurd and it's probably not even accurate!"
"Oh shush, fanfiction is clearly the best source when it comes to these things, you just don't know it yet!" She pouted.
"Velvet...perhaps basing your idea of relationships off of what you read online is a bad idea…"
"Nonsense! We can make it work! Polyamory is perfect for a situation like this! No hearts broken and everyone is happy!"
"I think it's a bit more complicated than that, Velvet…"
"Even if it is, I think it's something we can do!" Velvet exclaimed before tugging on his cheek,"Aw come on, don't give me that look, Vol! Give it a chance!"
"Velvet I-'
"Please?" She begged,"I really do this for real, give it a chance!"
"Errr…" Vol looked away, already feeling the effect of the guilt trip taking place. The way her eyes pierced through his soul made the fusion waver in his stance, taking a deep breath,"Alright fine. If I give this a chance, will you leave me be about this?"
"Uh-huh!"
"Then have it your way, Velvet...You win."
"Aww thank you so much, Vol!" She embraced him in a giant hug before kissing him on the lips, the fusions' eyes widening at the contact as his cheeks burned a bright shade of red."Mwah!"
She then turned her attention to Vox and Alastor and did the same(though how she did it with Vox was a mystery considering he didn't have an actual face) and running off,"I gotta go tell my fans this! This is gonna be the story of a life-time! Thanks guys!"
Vol stood there in shock,"I can't believe it...she kissed me.." Vol then looked at Vox and Alastor with a raised eyebrow,"Did you two do this on purpose?"
"What? Nooo…" Alastor lied,"We totally didn't do that on purpose. Totally."
"Yeah. Definitely by accident."
"You don't need to lie,"Vol said,"Well played. I can't say I expected you two to actually pull that on me. As frustrating as it was, it seems the end result was satisfactory, though I can't say I'm a fan of sharing Velvet with you two."
"Hey, sharing is caring," Vox said,"Or at least, that's what those stupid ass shows that Velvet forced me to watch kept repeating on loop."
"Regardless, I would've preferred to have Velvet to myself. This arrangement is definitely going to be rather frustrating and I am rather annoyed you two couldn't have done this any other way."
"Hey, it worked," Alastor chuckled,"My plan was a complete success, just because you're not a fan of sharing isn't a fault of mine. Besides, I don't get why you're so upset, this is clearly a new source of entertainment as well, so it'll pique all of our interests!"
"Not all of us are interested in 'entertainment'," Vol scoffed,"I swear, I find it hard to believe you're a part of me. It's times like these that make me wish I could kill you…"
"You know you can, right?" Vox stated,"I mean, you're stronger than us and if you really felt like it, you could've killed us all at any point. The only person in this hotel who is probably stronger than you is Charlie, and we all know how passive she is. Face it, Vol, if you really wanted us dead, we wouldn't fucking be here."
Vol sighed, folding his arms over his chest,"I know, which is why I question how I can even stand you two at this point. You two are incredibly annoying."
"Because you care about us," Vox cooed,
"You're exaggerating."
"Come on Vol, it's obvious you care about us. You literally saved me from Val back at the Studio and beat Val to death because he forced himself on me and helped evacuate everyone, including Alastor. Hell, weren't you the person who blamed himself for not saving me not too long ago? That doesn't seem to line up with your not caring rhetoric.``
Vol flinched, falling silent.
"See? You can't even disprove his claims," Alastor said,"Face it, you clearly care more than you're letting on. There's no need to deny it…"
The fusion merely shook his head,"Ugh….Whatever…"
As Vol walked away, he mumbled,"Fucking annoying bastards.I cannot believe I put up with those idiots for so long. They argue, they bicker, they fight. They're literally the most annoying people on the planet...But I still somehow put up with them for some reason. Either they're growing onto me or I'm insane...Probably both. There's no other explanation for it other than my declining sanity…."
Vol huffed, he preferred the denial excuse over the 'growing attached to his components' ones at this point and time. They were just starting to develop a proper connection, he didn't want to admit anything at this point...
Thanks for 4,156 views! Tell me what you all think below!
Also yes, I created this partly because I wanted some light-heartedness in the fic cuz you know, we just dealt with drugged rape not too long ago(fuck you Val) cuz it's gonna go back to serious after this.
Mitsuru6: Ha lol. I bet every Angel Dust fan would be cool with that. And yeah, they consider themselves that but Vol isn't quite at that stage of accepting that type of relationship yet.
Dogfighter12: Meh, I personally am gonna leave IMP out of this fic, don't really care much about Helluva to write them in as a part of the fic. Yeah don't worry, this'll be important later.
