Mate of My Desire
Chapter 27
Five months had passed since that fateful night of Hermione becoming Fenrir's mate in true. It had also been five months since she had officially become a werewolf. Her transformations were, as Fenrir had stated, becoming easier to go through and she was able to remember much of everything that happened during the nights of the full moon, without the aid of Wolfsbane Potion. In a way, Hermione found that her being a werewolf was quite freeing, her feeling she was not being so restricted in her life. She also loved being able to bond with Fenrir's pack more, as well as looking at het mate's wolf form in adoration and admiration. And Fenrir had no qualms about telling her just what a lovely wolf she made.
During this five-month period, Fenrir had officially moved into Hermione's flat with her. He had practically moved in with her already, but Hermione had decided to make it official by asking him. She realized she had no idea where he stayed whenever they weren't together—a rare occasion now—and when she had asked him, he admitted he still lived in the woods with the tent she had given him. Fenrir had said that he had been using ever since she had given it to him, even after their fight and the time they spent apart.
"It made me feel closer to you during those times," he had said. His words had touched the brunette and in return, she offered for him to move in with her, saying that he could be closer to her there, as well as stating she wanted him there with her always. It didn't take but a second for Fenrir to agree. Now that they were not only together, but living together, Fenrir and Hermione were happier than they had ever been.
With their relationship being completely official, everyone that they cared about—Hermione, at least—were completely supportive of their relationship. Not only that, but they were also accepting of Fenrir more than before. The reason for this was not because of him being a permanent fixture in Hermione's life, but because they could see how happy he made her and how well they fit together. The Weasleys could also see this and were supportive as well. Even Ron was, despite all he had done against them. Hermione was no longer friends with the redhead still, and never would be again, something that Ron had accepted. But she was glad that he had been able to move on in his life, especially after the major change of him being turned into a werewolf. She had been surprised though to hear from Ginny that Ron was currently seeing Padma Patil. It was surprising that Padma was giving him a chance, considering how horribly he had treated her as his date at the Yule Ball back during the Tri-Wizard Tournament, but she supposed Padma was over it and willing to give him another chance. And according to Ginny, Ron was really happy with her, so she wished them the best.
Yes, everything was going swell for Fenrir and Hermione, and Hermione didn't think life with her mate could get any better. Fenrir however, believed that it could. In fact, he had a few surprises for his beloved mate, surprises he just knew she would love. The first surprise was that he was building a cabin house for them to live in together. His mate's flat was nice and all for just the two of them, but when it got time to have pups and expand their family, they would need a bigger place. Therefore, he was in the process of building their cabin, along with the help of some of his pack mates. The second surprise however, he had been working on for about two weeks, and after being away from her for a week, he couldn't wait to surprise Hermione with it.
On Sunday, Hermione was busy relaxing in her living room while listening to classical music from her radio. It was a lazy Sunday, so she wasn't doing much of anything right now. She was off from her job at the Ministry, the job that she had started out as an intern. She was now fully hired in the position, and after working on one particular case, she was glad to have Sunday to herself. Of course, she'd love it more if her mate was with her instead of wherever he had been for the past week.
Speaking of said mate, the door to the flat opened and Fenrir walked in, his bright blue eyes lighting up at the sight of his mate lying on the couch with a throw blanket over her body. Walking over to the brunette, he bent down and greeted her with a kiss. Hermione moaned into the kiss and sat up, wrapping her arms around his neck, deepening the kiss before pulling away with a smile. Hugging him close, she said, "Oh, I've missed you."
"Me too, mate," Fenrir responded. "I'm home now."
Releasing the large man, she moved to allow him to sit next to her on the couch before asking, "Where have you been? You've been gone for a whole week, and without much of any warning, Fenrir."
"I know, and I'm sorry for that. But the reason I was gone was for a very important mission."
"What kind? Does it have something to do with the recent werewolf activity in the Forbidden Forest? Professor McGonagall said ever since we've mated, a lot more werewolves are coming around to be a part of our pack. Did you go talk to some of them or something?"
"No, I haven't, but I will, no worries. The reason for me being gone was really a surprise for you."
Brown eyes widened. "A surprise? For me? What is it?"
Fenrir grinned. "Get dressed and I'll take you to it, mate."
Nodding, Hermione got up from the couch and went to their bedroom, picking out a pair of jeans and a powder pink flower blouse, as well as black flats on her feet. Her hair she brushed out until her curls were more like waves, pulling it back into a low ponytail with a few tendrils framing her face. Leaving the bedroom, she walked over to Fenrir who was waiting in the living room. He smiled down at his beautiful mate and took her hand in his before Side-Apparating her along with him, their feet soon hitting the ground outside of the Leaky Cauldron.
"The Leaky Cauldron? What surprise could be here?" Hermione asked.
"Just wait and see, mate," Fenrir said with a knowing smile as he led her into the pub.
As they walked through, many of the patrons inside had stopped talking, instead turning their attention to the couple making their way to the staircase. Many people still looked at the werewolf warily, not at all fully convinced he was changed, but they also figured that if the Hermione Granger could learn to love him and be in a romantic relationship with him, then he couldn't be all bad. Fenrir led her up the stairs of the pub up to the inn rooms. Walking down the hallway, Hermione wondered what was up here for her. Eventually, they stopped in front of a closed inn door and Fenrir raised his hand, knocking on it and he waited patiently for it to be answered. Footsteps from inside the room moved towards the closed door, and it soon opened to reveal a face Hermione hadn't seen in nearly two years. The face in question was that of her father, Dr. Robert Granger.
Gasping, Hermione threw her hands over her mouth as she stared wide-eyed up at the man that was her father. Robert looked down at her in shock before tears gathered in his eyes and he pulled her into an embrace saying, "Oh Hermione, it really is you!"
Crying happily, Hermione hugged her father tightly, so happy to see him after so long, after believing she'd never see him again. Stepping into the room after letting him go, she wiped her tears a bit before saying, "Dad, I'm so happy to see you! W-Where is mum?"
"Darling," a female voice sounded as her mother, Dr. Jean Granger came out of the bathroom.
Hermione rushed to her, holding onto her tightly in a hug as she cried more tears of joy, Jean doing the same to her daughter. Robert went to join his wife and daughter, the three of them reunited once again after nearly two years. When she had finally calmed down enough to properly speak, Hermione looked at her parents and asked, "How did you come back? How did you get your memories back?"
Gesturing over to the hulking figure by the door, Jean said, "Fenrir found us. He located us in Australia and worked to restore our memories for us."
"He eventually did and after introducing himself and how he knows us, he brought us back to England," Robert finished. Looking over at Fenrir, he said, "We owe you a debt of gratitude, Mr. Greyback. You brought us back home to our little girl."
"Don't mention it," Fenrir replied. "I just wanted to make Hermione happy."
Hermione looked at her mate in awe, her heart swelling up with even more love for him than was already there. Smiling at him, she walked over to him and hugged him close, whispering in his ear, "Thank you, thank you so much, Fenrir."
Smiling, Fenrir wrapped his strong arms around her and held her close in return, softly saying, "You're welcome, Hermione."
Pulling away, she gave him a sweet kiss before formally introducing Fenrir to her parents as her boyfriend, deciding not to tell them his status as a werewolf—or her own. After all, she just got her parents back and it wouldn't be right to drop everything that had happened to her during their absence on them right away. After all, there would be time to discuss everything in depth later.
Deciding to spend the day with her parents, the brunette told Fenrir as much and he readily agreed, already having expected her to want to do that. He left his mate with her parents and left the Leaky Cauldron, deciding to head back to the piece of land that he was building their home on. And he hoped in time, it would be ready for them to move into, and hopefully soon.
Two months had passed since Hermione had been reunited with her parents, and it had been a pleasant two months. Now that her parents were back in England, they had a lot of affairs to handle, one of them being to find work at the dentist office they originally worked at. Luckily, they were welcomed back with no issue. The next had been finding them a home, as they couldn't continue to live within the Leaky Cauldron forever. They, along with the help of their daughter, went back to their original home and haggled it back from the current residents. Of course, the deciding factor was the amount of money Hermione offered up for it, which was more money than Robert and Jean had. However, Hermione simply explained that she had a rather large amount of Galleons given to her from fighting in the war against Voldemort, and she had used barely any of it. The following day, she had gone to Gringotts to have a couple of Galleons changed into Muggle currency—something she was glad that they were able to do—and presented the residents of her family home a check with the decided amount. That family were moved out by the next week. As for moving the Grangers back into their home, Hermione and Fenrir helped them out, as well as Remus, Harry, Luna, and Ginny.
The Grangers had been very accepting of Fenrir in their daughter's life and as her partner. He was the reason they were back reunited with her, after all. Of course, there was some concern and question about Hermione dating an older man. But when it came down to it, they were able to see just how happy and in love their daughter was with Fenrir. And honestly, they liked him a lot too. Hearing that they had been dating for nearly a year now, it was obvious that Fenrir and Hermione were serious about one another. Of course, Robert believed that Fenrir would be asking for his little girl's hand in marriage soon. After all, he would be ready to settle down soon, if he wasn't already.
To say Robert had hit the head on the nail was rather correct. One day while Hermione was at work, Fenrir had made his way to the Grangers home dressed nicely. Nothing too fancy, but presentable according to Lupin. And the reason for this was, just as his mate's father was beginning to think, to ask permission for Hermione's hand in marriage the Muggle way. He and his mate were already technically married by werewolf law, but he wanted to make it official in her own culture if he could. And after speaking to both his pup and Potter about it, he was ready to do things the right way and make an honest woman out of Hermione. That wasn't to say he wasn't nervous about asking her father. Then again, this was probably what every man felt like when asking for permission to marry another man's daughter. Now here he was seated in the Grangers living room across from Robert, Jean being out of the house running errands. And judging by the look on the Muggle man's face, he already knew why he was there.
Clearing his throat, Fenrir explained to his mate's father his reasoning for wanting to marry her. He told her how much he loved her and how he always loved her, all the way back to when he first saw her. They had also gone through so much together and came out of it stronger than ever; he made sure not to go into detail. He was also aware that it might seem too soon in a way, but he was ready to be husband officially and wanted her to be his wife.
Taking a deep breath, he asked, "So, do I have your permission to propose to Hermione?"
Hermione sighed as she left her office, so glad the workday was over. Closing the door to her office, she locked it and turned to leave, only to stop in surprise. Before her on the floor was a path of rose petals leading to wherever. Curious, she began to follow the path of rose petals, ignoring some of the giggling witches as she did. Following the petals, she was almost surprised to see that they led to the Minister's Office. Stopping outside the office, she wondered what in the world Kingsley had planned.
Knocking on the door, she was given entrance and she stepped inside to find not only Kingsley, but Fenrir waiting for her. Blinking, she asked, "What's going on?"
Kingsley simply smiled and patted her shoulder before leaving his office, closing the door behind him and leaving the couple alone. Looking back at her mate, Hermione looked him over and found that he was dressed rather nicely, looking well-groomed, in fact. With a bemused smile, she asked, "What is this about?"
Fenrir walked up to his mate and took her hand in his before sinking down on one knee. Hermione gasped softly and placed her free hand over her mouth as Fenrir began to speak.
"Hermione, I never thought that I would one day find my mate after such a cruel life. But then I found you, and my world changed forever. I know us getting together wasn't really conventional and took a lot of convincing that I was true with my intentions, as well as all the trouble our relationship with through, but my heart and feelings have never wavered concerning you. You are the love of my life, and my true mate, and even though we are already mated, I would like nothing more than to call you my wife. Hermione Granger, my mate, will you marry me?"
He pulled a ring out of his pocket, the ring being a gold band with a rather large pearl at the main stone, and two round diamonds on either side of the pearl. Hermione knew this ring, as he had told her about it. It once belonged to his grandmother, the only person in his family that never treated him any differently after being inflicted with lycanthropy. It was a special ring, and here he was presenting it to the most special person in his life, her.
Nodding, Hermione answered happily, "Yes, I'll marry you, Fenrir."
Grinning, Fenrir slipped the ring onto her finger before hugging her close. Hermione giggled and she hugged her mate, her fiancé, before kissing him happily and lovingly. She didn't think she could be any happier than she was now. Oh, she just couldn't wait to marry this man.
