A/N: Hello everyone, I am back with chapter twenty - seven of this story. Here, our trio meets up with Gertrude.
Disclaimer: I don't own Pokemon
This was the place. James, Jessie and Meowth had followed the instructions given and arrived at the address listed. It was a modest home in what we would call a traditional Japanese style. There was a koi pond in the backyard. James and he could hear footsteps. Moments later, the door opened to reveal a young girl.
"Hello." said the young girl confused.
"You look familiar." noted Jessie.
"Um, we're here to see your grandma." said James.
"One moment." replied the girl.
The girl left to find her grandmother.
"Where have I seen here before?" asked Jessie bugged.
"We've definitely seen here somewhere." agreed James.
An elderly later approached the door.
"Sorry, I'm not interested in what you're selling." said Gertrude.
Gertrude got a good look at the three.
"Oh, Annie and Oakley called me last night. I didn't think you'd get here so soon." said Gertrude.
"We really had to leave Fuchsia fast." noted James.
Gertrude led them to the living room where her granddaughter was.
"Jeanette, be a dear and put tea on." requested Gertrude.
"Of course, grandmother." replied Jeanette.
"I remember now!" exclaimed James.
Jeanette stopped leaving in confusion.
"You were in the Indigo League and lost on the Grass Field to the twe...Ash Ketchum." said James.
"Indeed." confirmed Jeanette, clearly not thrilled to her lose brought up.
Jeanette left to make tea.
"She doesn't like to be reminder of that battle." noted Gertrude annoyed.
"Um sorry." said James guilty.
"Great first impression." muttered Meowth.
"Actually, we've met her before so it wouldn't be a first impression." noted James.
"And I didn't think you'd want out." confessed Gertrude.
"It's a long story." sighed James.
"Annie and Oakley gave me the basics. You knocked her up and now you want out." replied Gertrude.
"And we're being hunted." added Meowth.
"You really pissed off the Boss." mused Gertrude amused.
"We kind of told him off to his face." said James.
Gertrude chuckled.
"I wish I had the balls to do that." confessed Gertrude.
"Those two did mention you were loyal to the team, but not necessarily the boss." noted Jessie curious.
"Indeed. I've been with Team Rocket for fifty years now." confirmed Gertrude.
"Then did you know my mother?" asked Jessie hopeful.
Gertrude nodded her head in confirmation.
"Your mother was one of the best damn team members this organization had ever had." said Gertrude.
Jessie felt pride in this despite Team Rocket hunting her.
"And things have changed." said Gertrude somberly.
"Pardon, but do you remember Mondo?" asked James.
Gertrude winced at this.
"I thought you might bring him up." answered Gertrude somberly.
Our trio didn't like the way this was turning.
"You should ask the girl chasing you." said Gertrude.
"Domino?" asked Meowth surprised.
"Fantastic." groaned Jessie sarcastically.
"Grandmother, the tea is ready!" called Jeanette.
"Look, Team Rocket isn't exactly looked up fondly." began Gertrude.
"Your family doesn't know you're a Rocket." realized Jessie softly.
"They think I work for a clothing firm and have to frequently travel for meetings." revealed Gertrude.
'We won't say a thing." promised James.
"Thank you." replied Gertrude gratefully.
Jeanette returned with the tea and everyone began drinking.
"My, this tea is delicious." said James.
"Thank you." replied Jeanette.
Jeanette turned to her grandmother.
"So, you know them from the firm." said Jeanette.
"We've been working there for years." replied James.
"Well, we just left recently." added Jessie.
"Why did you leave?" asked Jeanette curious.
"Jessie is pregnant and we wanted a new line of work." answered James.
"Did that how pay enough?" asked Jeanette.
"Deary, they're tired so please don't bombard them with too many questions" requested Gertrude.
"Oh. I'm so sorry." said Jeanette.
"It's fine." replied Jessie flatly.
"So, Jeanette, where are you parents?" asked James.
"Father is a businessman and mother is a teacher. They will be home later." answered Jeanette.
"I must say, your level of respect is astounding." mused James.
"Just like we thought her!" declared Gertrude proudly.
Gertrude drank some of her tea.
"We have a guest room for you." said Gertrude.
"That will work fine." replied James.
"Good. Just no hanky panky now." teased Gertrude.
James and James blushed.
"Grandmother." said Jeanette embarrassed.
"Oh sorry. Sorry." said Gertrude.
Gertrude got up.
"I'll show you to your room." offered Gertrude.
Our trio got up and followed Gertrude.
"Welcome to our family." said Gertrude.
The trio got settled into their lives. They met the parents of Jeanette a few hours later when they got home. The mother of Jeanette was the daughter of Gertrude. Soon night fell and everyone went to sleep. However, Jessie had trouble sleeping and decided to use the bathroom. After she finished, Jessie was headed back to her guest room when she spotted a room with a light.
"That's interesting." mused Jessie.
Jessie peaked inside to see Gertrude reading a book.
"What are you doing up?" asked Gertrude.
Jessie entered the room as Gertrude put her book down.
"I had to use the bathroom." answered Jessie.
"Since you were wondering, I was just doing a bit of reading before I went to sleep." revealed Gertrude.
"I was wondering..." began Jessie.
"You want to learn more about your mother." mused Gertrude.
"Yeah." confirmed Gertrude.
"Her and I weren't exactly friendly...we were merely co-workers." began Gerturde.
Jessie became concerned.
"But we did interact quite a bit." said Gertrude.
Gertrude gestured to the door.
"Shut the door and sit on the bed." instructed Gertrude.
Jessie did as she was told.
"She was an incredible and loyal agent. Honestly, probably the best." said Gertrude.
"I still feel oddly proud." mused Jessie.
"The one thing she was proud of was you. She carried a photo of you in her pocket." revealed Gertrude.
Jessie became emotional hearing this.
"Unfortunately, that's all I can really say." said Gertrude.
"Thank you for that at least." replied Jessie.
"Of all the agents I've met there were none I respected as much as your mother." stated Gertrude.
"I have a weird comfort in that." said Jessie.
Jessie thought for a moment.
"How long have you been with Team Rocket?" asked Jessie.
"From the beginning." answered Gertrude.
Gertrude hated her life. She was just out of college, heavy in debt and stuck in a dead-end waitress job in a bar. It was late and Gertrude found herself working nearly alone. There was nobody present so she sat waiting for her shift to end. Suddenly, the door opened and Gertrude had to perk up. A woman wearing a business suit came in.
"Hello ma'am." said Gertrude.
Gertrude approached.
"Whiskey on the rocks." said the woman.
The woman sat down and Gertrude left. Gertrude returned moments later with the drink.
"Why don't you join me." proposed Gertrude.
"I can't." replied Gertrude.
The woman looked around.
"There's nobody here." noted the woman.
"I'll get in trouble in I do." said Gertrude.
"I'll take the blame." said the woman.
Something about this woman made Gertrude want to follow her.
"Okay." said Gertrude.
Gertrude sat down across from the woman.
"My name is Claudia." said the woman.
Claudia extended her hand.
"I'm Gertrude." said Gertrude mesmerized.
Gertrude and Claudia shook hands.
"Tell me about yourself." requested Claudia.
"I'm stuck here because I'm in debt from college and life." sighed Gertrude.
"Sounds like you're unhappy." mused Claudia.
Gertrude made sure none of her co-workers were listening.
"I want out of here." confessed Gertrude.
Gertrude couldn't believe she was saying this to a stranger.
"I might be able to help." revealed Claudia.
"Excuse me if I'm skeptical." replied Gertrude.
"I fully understand." said Claudia.
Claudia took a drink of her whiskey.
"I might be able to help." revealed Claudia.
"How?" asked Gertrude curious.
"I'm starting an organization that will rise to become a massive powerhouse." answered Claudia.
"You have my attention." mused Gertrude.
"It's called Team Rocket and it needs good soldiers." continued Claudia.
"And what exactly will we do?" asked Gertrude.
"Steal Pokemon and sell them to the highest bidder." answered Claudia.
"What?!" asked Getrude horrified.
"Pokemon exist as tools for humans to use and exploit." stated Claudia coldly.
Gertrude didn't know what to say.
"We will build and empire and I want you to be part of it." said Claudia.
"I can't." replied Gertrude.
Gertrude spotted her boss march over to her.
"What are you doing?!" asked her boss angrily.
"I..." began Gertrude.
"It's my fault. I asked her to join me." said Claudia.
"You should still know better than to sit on your ass!" snapped her boss.
"I wouldn't be so harsh on her." said Claudia.
"And why is that?" asked the boss.
"She is a smart and capable employee." answered Claudia.
Claudia got up and placed a large sum of money on the table.
"Consider this a generous tip." said Claudia.
Claudia walked away.
"For that tip and I'm docking your pay." said the boss.
"I quit!" declared Gertrude.
Gertrude raced after Claudia catching her outside.
"As my employee, you shall address me as Madame Boss." ordered Claudia.
Gertrude finished her story. Jessie was surprised by this and amazed.
"I know it sounds odd...but, there was something about her that made you follow her." said Jessie.
"She probably could sell Ice to a Cloyster." joked Jessie.
Gertrude laughed.
"She probably could!" declared Gertrude.
"Thank you for telling me that." said Jessie.
"No problem." said Gertrude.
Jessie turned to leave, but stopped.
"I appreciate taking us in." noted Jessie.
"No problem." replied Gertrude.
Jessie walked back to her room.
"I pray this works out." whispered Jessie.
Back in her room, Gertrude let out a heavy sigh.
"If Domino is hunting you, Arceus himself might be the only way to save you three." said Gertrude worried.
A/N: That's where we'll end things for now. So, we got a little backstory on how Gertrude joined Team Rocket. I chose to give Madame Boss the name Claudia since it is Italian and fits with Giovanni. Also, the Team Rocket scout (Gertrude) and Jeanette Fisher have no canonical backstory it's just something I made up. However, it has inspired what story I will do after this. next time, dark secrets are revealed. Please review.
