Hermione sighed. "It's been quite the year, hasn't it?"
"It sure has." Annabeth agreed.
The two girls were standing in the Courtyard, just enjoying each other's company. It was the end of the school year and the Feast had just ended.
Or rather, the memorial to Cedric had.
"This...it reminds me of when my friend Charles Beckendorf died. We...well we had some trouble going on and a lot of us died or left the school. Charles wasn't the first death but his was the first death that realy impacted most of us. He was about to head to university and he had a girlfriend...and then he sacrificed himself so others could escape and the opposing side would get set back." Annabeth sighed. "And...if things go the same way here...It could get worse. Way worse."
"We know people will die iff He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named returns." Hermione pointed out.
"Yeah but..."
Annabeth didn't finish that thought. She was not looking forward to more war.
Silence fell over the duo again.
"So you're heading back to New World Academy tonight?" Hermione asked.
Annabeth nodded. "Yeah. But I think some of the others might come back next year. I don't know if I will, though. I'm supposed to go to collage with Percy. But if things get bad we might come back to help."
"Plus you're 17, right?" Hermione asked. Annabeth nodded. "You have N.E.W.T.S. coming up."
"I...yeah. And DSTOMP. And I have an important job I shouldn't keep leaving unattended."
Hermione was about to ask what kind of job Annaeth had, but then Nico and Percy entered the courtyard, essentially stopping her from asking.
"Annabeth, Chi- Professor Brunner wants to speak with us. Something about Percy's dad offering to bring us back a much nicer way." Nico called over.
"Coming!" Annabeth called back. Glancing at Hermione she gave a small smile. "I guess I'll see you...sometime?"
"I'll owl you."
"Hopefully they can find me. They might- Oh!, I can write you an address to send things!" Annabeth dug around in her satchel and pulled out some paper and a pen. She quickly scribbled down an address, before passing it to Hermione, along with a single golden coin. "Here, my address. And if there's an emergency, throw the coin into a rainbow and...well, I wrote it on the paper. One-time use though, so make it count."
"I-..Alright?"
Annabeth smiled and stood up. "It was nice ot meet you, Hermione. I hope we can talk again soon."
Hermione nodded and waved as Annabeth rejoined her friends to walk out to the Academy's campsite.
Then she glanced down at the gold coin and paper.
Huh.
Guess she had something new to research over the holidays.
