Morgan sat in the waiting room with his head in his hands. Tears were silently falling down his cheeks. He looked up when he heard his team enter the waiting room.

"Any news?" Asked Prentiss.

Morgan shook his head without looking anyone in the eye. "He's in surgery..."

JJ and Garcia took the seats immediately next to Morgan, while the rest of the team took seats across from them. Garcia took Morgan's hand into her own. "Derek, he's going to be okay..."

Morgan scoffed. "Garcia, you didn't see him. He was stabbed. His… his heart stopped in the ambulance..."

Everyone was silent after hearing that he died on the way to the hospital. "He's in good hands." Hotch reassured.

Morgan nodded as more tears fell. They sat and waited in silence for ten minutes before Morgan spoke again, barely above a whisper. "H-He called me daddy..." JJ squeezed his hand. "He tried to say he loved me before he… before he started ch-choking on his b-blood."

Morgan put his hand to his mouth as he let out a sob. He sat crying for a moment before whispering again. "He's going to turn six soon… What if he doesn't make it to six..."

Rossi reached out and put a hand on Morgan's knee. "He'll make it. He's the strongest little boy I've ever met. He'll make it."

Morgan sat back. "I hope you're right..."

They waited for over three hours without getting any news on Spencer's condition. Finally a doctor came out with a clipboard in his hand. "Family of Spencer Reid?"

Morgan shot out of his chair and ran up to the doctor, the rest of the team right behind him. "Yes. I'm his guardian. Is he okay?"

The doctor looked over the team, and then met Morgan's eyes. "Would you like to speak in private?"

"No. Anything you say to me I will tell them. Just please tell me if he's okay."

"Okay, well right off the bat, Spencer is alive." The team all let out a sigh of relief. "Our biggest concern was the stab wound to his abdomen. Luckily it didn't do too much damage to his major organs, though it did nick his lung. Because of this, we had to intubate him."

Morgan closed his eyes and took in the information. "He has quite a few cuts caused by a knife that needed to be stitched. One of these cuts is on his neck. It seems as though whoever did this cut across his neck as if to slice his throat, but the cut was shallow enough to not be lethal. We also found bruising on his neck as well which indicates that he was strangled."

The dark agent opened and closed his fists, trying to refrain from punching a wall. "He also has numerous gashes on his back that were caused by some sort of whip. Many of these gashes were quite deep and needed stitches. He lost a lot of blood so he is getting a transfusion. He also has a mild concussion."

The team couldn't believe all of his injuries, but continued listening intently. "And sadly it seems he was raped. We found tearing in his anal passage which we needed to stitch up. I do expect him to make a full recovery. Considering all of his injuries, he is an incredibly lucky little boy."

"Can we see him?" Asked Morgan.

"He's currently sleeping, and he will be for at least 12 more hours. He's in room 324, follow me."

The doctor turned and started walking down the hall, with all of the team right on his heels. When they got to the room the doctor opened it and gestured for them to enter.

Morgan froze in the doorframe upon seeing the boy. He was covered in gauze, including his neck, head, and wrists. He was incredibly pale, his skin almost matching the bedsheets. A tube was down his throat and he was connected to machine after machine.

JJ put her hand on Morgan's shoulder for support, and he finally unfroze. He quickly made his way to the seat next to the boy's bed. He grabbed his tiny hand in his own as the rest of his team filtered in.

They sat in silence just watching the small child for a few minutes before Morgan spoke. "I don't think we can go back to my house..."

The team gave him questioning looks. "We can't live in a house where he was raped. I can't make him go back there, and to be completely honest, I'm not sure I can go back either..."

Hotch put a hand on Morgan's shoulder. "That's understandable Morgan."

"I just finished renovating a house. Maybe we could move into that."

They were eventually interrupted by a nurse coming into the room. "I'm sorry but visiting hours are over. Only the father can stay."

Everyone stood and took turns giving Morgan a hug or handshake goodbye. Garcia gave Spencer a kiss on the forehead and then gave Morgan a kiss on the cheek. "Do you want me to bring you anything tomorrow?"

Morgan thought for a moment. "Yeah. Could you stop at a bookstore and get 'Empty Planet' by David Hansberry? It's his favorite book..."

Garcia wiped a tear off of his cheek and gave him a warm smile. "Of course sweet cheeks."

With that, everyone exited the hospital room. Morgan sat and stared at his son, rubbing his thumb over the little boy's cold knuckles. He really didn't look alive. Only the beeping of the heart monitor and the subtle rise and fall of his chest proved that he was in fact not dead.

Morgan brought the boy's hand up to his mouth and kissed it as tears trailed down his face. "Oh god Spencer, I'm so sorry. I love you so much baby. I'm so, so sorry…"
