Chapter 27: Team Rocket and the Kimono girls
Ethan had a walk with Morty around Ecruteak's main street after dropping his Pokémon off at the Pokémon Center. Ethan explained to Morty his situation with Lyra, to which he understood the situation fully.
"So you really hurt Lyra it sounds like." Morty said.
"Yeah, I was a prick, anyways she ran off and I haven't seen her since, that's why I asked if you'd seen her." Ethan said.
"I'm sorry, I understand getting mad in the moment, but if what all you said is true, then I can't say if she'll forgive you." Morty told him.
"Yeah... I fear she won't, but no matter what I'm going to find her, and apologize." Ethan said. "Not over the Pokégear, but face to face."
They walked past many people, many giving Ethan stank faces for what he had pulled the day before, and Ethan felt he deserved all of it.
"And one more thing has been bugging me." Ethan said.
"What? I'd be happy to help you with anything." Morty said.
"You know a girl named Kris, right?" Ethan asked. "A girl whose collected eight badges."
Morty's eyes lit up upon the mention of Kris's name, he silently looked down and nodded. "How do you know that name?" He asked.
"Oh well, I met her, not too long ago." Ethan said.
Morty looked away and shook his head. "I don't know what you're talking about kid, but that's impossible, that girl has been dead for a long while."
Ethan's face lit up with shock, he couldn't believe what he was hearing, the girl he talked to... had been dead...?
He turned to Bayleef who looked surprised as well.
"N-no, I met her, that can't be right." Ethan rejected the idea.
"It's a sad story, she had so much potential, she could have conquered the Pokémon league, but then she..." Morty stopped himself.
"What happened to her exactly, if she's really dead?" Ethan asked.
"It's not in my place to say. Sorry." Morty said.
"Fine, I get it." Ethan muttered.
"Well, Ethan, I have to go back to my gym, if you have any more questions you come to me alright." Morty said, patting Ethan on the shoulder. "Alright, see ya around kid."
As Morty left, Ethan had a strange feeling about what he had been told.
Ethan kneeled to Bayleef. "Morty's holding something back, I can tell."
"Bayleef, Bay." Bayleef said, agreeing with Ethan.
"She's alive, I couldn't have been hallucinating back there. I saw her." Ethan said.
Ethan stood up and readjusted his hat. "But I can't worry about that right now, I have, a lot of other stuff to worry about."
As Ethan walked around, he began to hear screams from what sounded like a woman coming from inside an old timey looking establishment. Ethan instantly took notice and felt like trouble might be occurring.
"Let's see what's going on Bayleef!" Ethan said.
"Bay!" Bayleef responded.
Ethan kicked open the door to what appeared to be a Dance Theater. Bayleef prepared a Razor Leaf attack in case necessary.
Ethan looked around to see Kimono's girls, they all wore identical Kimono's, each only different in color. Up on stage, one of the members was being hassled by a Team Rocket member.
"Come on baby, why don't we leave this place and have some real fun?" He asked, trying to flirt with her, he was clutching her by her arm, not letting her get away.
"P-please, I don't want any trouble!" She pleaded but the man wouldn't listen.
"Release our sister!" One Kimono girl said.
"You Team Rocket scum are all the same!" Another said.
They were all in identical Kimono's only different in color, the girl on stage wore a Red one, and Ethan recognized her instantly from Violet City. He finally decided to step in.
"Hey, Team Rocket asshole, why don't you let her go and learn to take rejection like a man!?" Ethan raised his voice, making his presence be known.
The Kimono girls turned to face him, there was five of them, the four off stage began pleading with him.
"Please, please help us!" The one in purple said.
"That man is Team Rocket, he'd do terrible things to her!" The one in pink said.
"What did you say to me, are you trying to make me mad!?" The grunt said, he pulled from a pocket a knife he had stored, beginning to make the Kimono girls scream.
The Kimono girl in red began to cry, she couldn't believe what was happening.
"Shut up, will you!" The Team Rocket grunt said, putting the knife to her neck, threatening to kill her.
Ethan's face lit up with anger, but he knew he couldn't be reckless or else it was over for the women.
Bayleef began to growl angerly, but Ethan showed his hand to her to tell her to stand down.
"A-alright alright, please put the knife down!" He said, putting his hands up. "No one wants to lose their life for dumb reasons, you're making a mistake."
The grunt smiled; his yellow teeth could be seen from a mile away.
He moved the knife from her throat and pointed it at Ethan.
"You're starting to annoy me kid, why not step over here and face me like a man!?" He asked, taunting Ethan.
"Will you put your knife down?" Ethan asked.
"That's none of your concern, now come over here!" The grunt spoke up.
Bayleef turned her face to Ethan, she nodded, assuring him she could attack right now, but Ethan signaled with his hand it wasn't the right moment.
Before he could take another step, the man stopped him. "Return that Pokémon."
Bayleef looked at Ethan and shook her head, trying to tell him it was a bad idea.
Ethan held her Pokéball, he paused, not sure of what to do next.
"Hurry it up!" The Team Rocket grunt said, making the sure the knife touched the Kimono girl's neck.
Ethan raised Bayleef's Pokéball and returned her. "Fine, its done."
Ethan walked past the four crying Kimono girls and onto the stage, approaching the Team Rocket grunt and his hostage.
"What now?" Ethan asked.
The Kimono girl's eyes glistened upon seeing Ethan, she recognized him from Violet City.
"Run." She softly spoke, not loud enough for the grunt to hear, but Ethan ignored her request.
He wrapped his arm around her really tight and pointed the knife at Ethan.
"Hand over your Pokémon tough guy!" He said mocking Ethan.
"I only have two Pokémon." Ethan said, giving a soft lie, he had two Pokémon on him currently, but he had two others in the Pokémon Centers.
"Did I stutter? Hand it over, unless you want to see blood spilled." He threatened, making the rest of the Kimono girls scream.
"Shut up! If anyone else walks in this room, I'll kill this girl!" He yelled at them, shutting them up.
Ethan held out two Pokéballs, he hadn't checked which one was which, so it could either be Bayleef's and Togepi's, or two Pokéballs with no Pokémon inside them, or anything in between.
"Here, take it." He said, holding up both hands.
The Team Rocket member grabbed both Pokéballs, with his knife hand, he put them in his pocket, and began to slowly walk out of there with the knife to the Kimono's girl. The girl was crying silently.
"Hey, you liar!" Ethan yelled at him.
"As soon as I reach the door, she's free." The grunt said.
He reached the door, then kicked the girl, making her fall to the ground, pissing off Ethan even more now. He then fled the opened the front door and bolted.
The Kimono girls began to cry in relief, the one in green walked up and hugged her sister. They all joined in to hug the girl in red.
"I'm glad you're safe," Ethan said, walking past them.
They stopped hugging their sister, the one in red walked up to Ethan and bowed before him.
"Thank you, oh thank you," she said crying. "You saved my life."
Ethan smiled and gave a thumbs-up. "A-alright, now I got to go and see if I can find my Pokémon he took." Ethan said.
Ethan took off through the door, he turned to his right to see the Team Rocket, who was taking off as fast as he could, bumping into folks along the way.
"Not so fast!" Ethan yelled, chasing after him.
The Team Rocket member took notice of Ethan and ran even faster, not looking back.
Ethan had two Pokéballs with him, to which both Bayleef and Togepi could have been in. But on the other hand, none of them could have, or only one could.
Ethan threw both Pokéballs, releasing only Bayleef.
"Bay!" She shouted.
"Alright Bayleef, let's get that guy back!" Ethan yelled, she agreed and joined him in the chase.
The Team Rocket grunt finally looked back to see both Ethan and Bayleef, surprising him.
"W-what! He gave me that Pokémon!" He yelled, he raised both Pokéballs, unleashing only Togepi.
"To-Togepi!?" Togepi said, he was caught in the grunt's arms, he continued to run off as fast as he could.
"Togepiii!" Ethan yelled upon seeing him in the grunt's clutch.
Togepi began to cry, knowing something was wrong.
"Shut up!" Team Rocket man said.
People stared at him while he ran with a crying Pokémon in his arms. Ethan continued to follow.
"Alright Bayleef, use Vine Whip to catch him by the leg." Ethan said.
Bayleef listened, sending her Vine Whip, catching the man by the leg, making him fall to the ground, he threw Togepi.
"Togepiii!" Ethan yelled as he flew in the air.
The Team Rocket grunt reached in his bag and threw a Pokéball of his own, a Fearow.
"Fearow, catch Togepi and take off!" He commanded.
"Fearow!" Fearow squawked, it zipped by and caught Togepi with its talons and flew into the air,
Ethan caught up to the grunt who was on the ground.
"Where are you doing with my Togepi you scumbag!" Ethan said, kicking the grunt over to face him.
"Heh, thing is I don't even know, wherever Fearow feels like, maybe it'll eat Togepi!" He said, beginning to laugh, pointing at Ethan.
Bayleef's anger worsened, and she used her Vine Whip to smack the grunt in the hand at full speed, he let out a scream and grabbed his hand.
"Damnit, you stupid beast!" He cursed at Bayleef.
Bayleef growled at him, looking about ready to cut him in half.
"If I don't get Togepi back, then I won't be able to calm my Bayleef's rage, you'll have to deal with it first-hand." Ethan said, with no remorse.
"N-noted..." The grunt said, rubbing his red hand.
Ethan turned to the Fearow, it was about thirty or fourty feet into the air, Togepi was crying and screaming loudly for Ethan.
"Togepiiiiiii!" Ethan called out at the top of his lungs, trying to get Togepi to hear him.
Togepi stopped from bawling upon hearing Ethan's voice, he still had streams of tears running from his face but began to focus on Ethan.
"Togepiiiiiii!" Ethan yelled once again, loud enough that Togepi and Fearow from what must have been sixty feet above.
Togepi stopped smiling and grew a determined look on its face. Togepi began to glow a blue light, startling the Fearow, who felt Togepi becoming heavier, the shine could be seen from down below by Ethan, who instantly realized what was happening.
"Togepi is..." he said under his breath, many people in the background where walking were mesmerized by this.
The glow left Togepi, Togepi was dainty looking, his leg had gotten much larger, and it now had wings, giving off an angelic appearance.
"Togetic!" The now Togetic said after evolving.
Fearow was worried after seeing Togepi evolve, it tried to keep its hold on Togetic, but Togetic easily shook it off.
Ethan was shocked to see Togetic now in the air, freely flying with no issue.
"Bay!" Bayleef said, relieved her teammate was safe.
"Fearow don't just stand there, attack!" The grunt yelled, Ethan turned to him and stomped on his back.
"You don't get to talk!" Ethan yelled at him.
Fearow charged a Drill Peck attack and came rushing to Togetic at high speeds, coming in close contact with Togetic.
Togetic however, unleashed a spiral which froze the Fearow in place, disabling its attack. Togetic's eyes were glowing red.
"F-Fearow!" It said shocked.
Togetic, using his mind and controlling the spiral, quickly launched the Fearow to the ground at incredible speed, Fearow in fact looked like a blur to both Ethan and Bayleef, and everyone watching.
The ground erupted as the Fearow crashed to the floor, kicking up a sizable smoke cloud, causing everyone to look away. Once the smoke cleared, Fearow was revealed to be well unconscious.
"That was, extrasensory!" Ethan said, shocked at Togetic's power.
"This is awful!" The Team Rocket grunt said, before Bayleef kicked him.
Togetic smiled and faced Ethan still up in the air, he came down and appeared before Ethan and Bayleef.
"Toge! Togetic!" Togetic said, excited to see Ethan after having evolved.
Ethan grabbed Togetic's hand's and held them. "I'm so happy your safe, and now you've even evolved!"
"Bayleef Bayleef!" Bayleef said happily.
Togetic nodded and flew around Ethan and Bayleef showing off its new tricks, doing loop d loops and spinning around them.
After a while, the police came and took in the Team Rocket member, thanking Ethan giving him credit for the catcher, Ethan after retrieving his other Pokémon at the Center was walking past the town exit along with Bayleef and a floating Togetic before being called by a familiar voice.
"Wait, wait!" The Kimono girl in red said.
"Oh, it's you." Ethan said, turning around to see her.
"I just wanted to thank you, thank you for saving my life, Ethan." She said, leaving Ethan surprised.
"Y-you know my name?" Ethan asked, surprised.
"Yes, Oak's talk show, I recognized you immediately." She told him.
"Right, I see." Ethan said. "You don't have to thank me for earlier, it was my duty as a Trainer is all."
"You were really brave; I can't help but thank you." She said, she walked up to Ethan and held him close, giving him a big hug. The blood rushed to Ethan's cheeks upon being hugged by her.
"Well, I won't take up much of your time, I would just like to ask, is that Togetic, is it the Pokémon from within the egg?" She asked, letting go of Ethan.
"Y-yeah, it is, it evolved into Togetic here." Ethan said, fidgeting with his fingers, his face red as a tomato, his blush could be seen from a mile away, making Bayleef chuckle.
"Truth be told, before that egg was in the hands of Mr. Pokémon, I discovered it." She spoke, filling Ethan with wonder.
Togetic was taken aback hearing this, and so was Bayleef.
She reached and pet Togetic on his head, usually Togetic was uneasy around people other than Ethan, even including the Nurse Joys, but he felt comfortable around this woman.
"I must go now, thank you again Ethan. I feel the world would be a better place with more Trainers like you." She said, preparing to take her leave.
"Heheh, I wish that were true," Ethan laughed.
"Be well!" She said waving Ethan bye as she left.
Ethan waved bye back, and turned to his Bayleef, who smiled, and then to Togetic, who spun around Ethan, making him laugh.
"Next stop! Olivine City!" Ethan said, as he prepared to walk off, he was once again reminded of Lyra, who he wouldn't stop at anything to reach.
