They say that in the first age there was Peace.
Two realms; the earth, and the heavens. But when a group of angels rebelled against The Council, they were exiled. They - The Fallen, Kings of Hell - established for themselves a third realm and there brought forth the demon spawn over whom they rule and which they command.
And so the second age was one of War.
For thousands of years, the demons made war with the upper realms, slaughtering angels and mortals alike. During these great wars of hell and heaven, the silver blood of the angels was spilt all across the world. They say the very skies cried blood.
Then an alliance was formed between the mortal slayers and the Watchers of the heavens. Together, the mortals and angels drove the demon armies back to their own realm.
Thus ended the third age of Alliance, and began the fourth age: Isolation.
The demon armies were but scattered remnants. Broken, stupid, disorganised monsters. The angels retreated to their heavenly realm, and the Alliance was dissolved.
The Council closed their gates, and left the mortal realm to fend for itself against the few remaining hordes, confident that no demon would ever again be strong enough to hunt an angel.
