I groaned as the morning sunlight creeped its way into my den, the Pidgey were singing, and I knew I had to get up. Even if I didn't want to, today was a special day, so I rose to my feet and shook the sleep out of my eyes. Sitting in the corner of the cave was a Ninetales, Scarlet, who I have known for years at this point. "Good morning, Raon," she greeted. "G'morning Mom," I responded. The Ninetales look like she was struck with nostalgia. "To think that you were so little when I first met you."

It had been exactly three years since I had come to this world and became a Houndour, well, now a Houndoom, and it felt like it was only yesterday that Scarlet was only tolerating me. "And to think you didn't like me at first," I smirked. Scarlet looked at me with her puppy eyes. "Come on Raon, I opened up eventually," she said. I then tried to pin her down, now being big enough to actually do so, and I ended up with myself being pinned down.

Scarlet gave me a smug look, then got off of me. After all this time,

"Raon!" another Ninetales ran in just as I got back up to my feet, and then came face to face with her. "Hey Ruby," I said. Ruby nuzzled me before taking a step back. The little, stubby, Vulpix I knew was now probably one of the prettiest Ninetales I have seen. My mind froze for a split second when I got nuzzled.

Here I was thinking I'd likely never fall in love with a Pokemon given what I used to be, but recently I can't tell what my brain is thinking.

"Come on Raon! I have a surprise with you," said Ruby. in a moment she was gone, what an energetic fluff ball. Scarlet nudged me with a mischievous look on her face. "I saw that Raon," she said. "Saw what?" I asked. "You think Ruby's one of the prettiest Pokemon you've seen, don't you?" Scarlet's grin was growing wider and wider by the minute. "My little Houndour has fallen in love!" she chuckled.

"How do you pick up on these things so easily?" I asked. "You forget how much I pay attention to you. You're my child, so I keep watch on these things." Scarlet wrapped her tails around me and grinned. "So, how do I tell Ruby I love her?" the Ninetales shrugged. "Just tell her, it couldn't hurt to after all. I'm sure she shares similar feelings about you."

"Raon are you coming?" Ruby poked her head back into the den. "Give him a second, we're having a mother and son moment," Scarlet said. "Okay, I'll wait outside then."

I stared at the Houndoom that I've known since what feels like forever. From a pup I merely tolerated because he couldn't survive on his own, to one of the things I hold closest to me. I licked his head while he relaxed under my tails. "Now Raon, I want you to go with Ruby, tell her how you feel once she shows you this surprise. You won't be disappointed by it either."

Raon had finally stepped outside of his and Scarlet's den after what felt like an hour. "So Raon, what were you and Scarlet talking about?" I asked. "We were just trying to get over the fact that it's been three years since we've met each other," he said. "And to think it's been two years since I have met you." In all honesty, the most surprising thing about Raon is you couldn't tell he was once human unless he told you. When he was Houndour, he acted just like a Houndour, now that he has evolved, he's been acting like a Houndoom.

Perhaps instinct naturally took over how he acts, or maybe Raon is just very good at keeping certain parts of his life under the radar.

"Okay Raon, I'm going to cover your eyes with my tails, I'll let you know when you can peek out," I said. "Okay Ruby," he said. Ever since Raon evolved, he looks a bit musclely. If he ran into a female Houndoom I'm sure she'd fall for Raon in a heartbeat. I know I would if I were a Houndoom.

I obediently followed Ruby as best as I could with my lack of vision. The Ninetales stopped walking and I nearly bumped into her. "Okay Raon, you can look now," Ruby lowered her tails from my face and took a step aside. In front of me was a tree with the bark carved out to spell out my name. It wasn't the neatest of wood carvings, but it told me one thing, Ruby had at a minimum, learnt how to write out my name. It was honestly quite impressive, it was neater than my hand writing when I had hands.

"That's…." Ruby was staring at me with her puppy eyes. She was adorable to put it simply. "That's amazing Ruby." the Ninetales cheered at my approval then rubbed up against you. "Now Ruby, there is something I want to tell you." Ruby tilted her head and her eyes were full of curiosity. "Ruby…" my tongue felt like it was tying knots on its own. I stuttered a couple of times trying to get the words out. I eventually slapped myself to try and make my vocal cords work with me.

"Ruby, I love you."

"Ruby, I love you," my eyes were fixed on Raon after he had said this. My mind was still wrapping itself around those words. Raon was staring at me with hopeful eyes, and I was staring right back into them. "Am I hearing you correctly?" I asked. "Y-yeah," he answered. I furrowed my brow as I stared at him.

I stepped close up to Raon, he was noticeably taller than I was, but it looked like he was making himself smaller with every second I was staring at him. "Well Raon…" my voice trailed off. I huddled up next to Raon with a big smile. "I love you too," I said. I planted a big kiss on his cheek and he completely froze up. With a chuckle, I huddled up deeper into my boyfriend's side. Not something I would entirely expect from this Houndoom, but I would happy welcome it.

Raon's POV=

Despite how much I wish I could speak to some of the people in my old world, I've come to terms that I won't ever be able to again. While that does make me sad, I can smile knowing I'll have Ruby by my side, and with Scarlet there to also support me.
