Okay, I needed this chapter to be Street's POV again. Enjoy :)

It took Street a couple of seconds to realize what was happening right now. The first few ghosted kisses his brain explained them away with Chris being this close, probably having fallen asleep on his shoulder or just plain fantasy.

But the goosebumps-inducing assault didn't stop and he couldn't help but shift his body to check, to make sure he wasn't imagining things. That Chris was really doing that, consciously.

Jim regretted the moment he moved and got to see Chris's eyes. All he saw was pure shock mixed with a dose of sadness as she straightens her spine and moves away as far, and as quickly as she can.

He can see the uneven breathing and knows that he didn't hallucinate the amazing feeling from seconds ago.

But still, the loss of her warmth lets his thoughts freeze for a moment, and he only realizes she has left when the door falling shut pulls him out of his daze.

Jim jumps up and tries to catch up with Chris, but she is gone before he reaches the door.

What did just happen?

Defeated Jim flops back onto the sofa. Was it his fault? Were they back to being broken just like before?

He shakes his head at himself. No, this time around he would get answers, real answers out of her. Chris owed him an explanation for making him feel this way and still running away.

He plans on talking to her first thing in the morning and is really glad that they are off the schedule for the weekend, so he can try and fix this without the rest of the team being involved.

Lying in his bed, remembering the feeling of her lips moving on his neck keeps him from falling asleep but it just strengthens his resolve to find a way to fix this. Them even if he has to accept that he can only be her friend. Again.
After what felt like a restless night Street got up very early and with Luca being back home he knew he needed to get out of the house. He couldn't explain why he was all torn and anxious to his friend. There was only one person he wanted to talk to but he also knew that pushing her right now would in all probability blow up in his face, again.
So, he packed a small bag and just took off on his bike. A day trip up the coast after texting Chris that she should call him. Or just text him back.
At a rest stop a while later he checks his phone but nothing.
Should he try calling her?
Street decides against it for now but as he takes his second break overlooking the ocean he has to try. He wants to hear her voice at least.
To his disappointment, but very much expected Chris doesn't pick up. It seems she has decided on ignoring him again.
Jim decides to give her the weekend but come Monday he would make her talk. If need be at HQ again.

With that plan in mind, he manages to get through the weekend, without any questions from Luca.

He arrives at work early and yes that raises a few eyebrows but Jim doesn't care he just wants to try and maybe even talk to Chris before their shift starts. But she seems to be running late.
The team is already sitting in the conference room for their daily briefing when Lynch walks in and whispers something to Hondo. After she has walked out Hondo clears his throat and starts talking.
"Ok, we are ready and can begin."
Jim tunes out and wonders Where Chris could be. The training at Deac's firm had been over last week and she hadn't mentioned any other plans. Was she so desperate to hide from him to just call in sick?
Jim gets pulled out of his head by Tan pulling him out of his seat. "Okay, we are going for a run, man. You were almost asleep."

Outside the building, Tan dragged him to the back lot where they would have privacy but Street was not interested in telling his friend anything. So, he just started running and evaded the nosy questions as best as he could.
He knew Tan had probably realized he was off and could guess that with Chris, spontaneously taking a couple of days off that something had happened but Jim also knew if he would say something to anyone, she would kill him.

No, he had to wait for her to be back.

At lunch, he decided to text her to check in and apologize. He wasn't even sure what for but the words "I am sorry" were typed and sent faster than he could stop himself.
He didn't expect her to reply but still every time his phone signaled a notification he hoped it was from Chris.
Just something to let him know she was okay.

A couple of days later they get a new recruit to make up their numbers, and shortly before lunch Cortez and Lynch call Tan and Benni upstairs one by one. Jim doesn't expect to be called up too, but he is and when the two women tell him that Chris had resigned from SWAT, from LAPD, his heart sank.
He couldn't even feel proud of being in the running to move up the ranks, they had offered Sergeant training, probably to all three of them.
Walking downstairs he pulls out his phone and dials Chris again, and again. He even resorts to blocking his number but she isn't picking up.
Thankfully their shift is over soon. Jim showers quickly and then drives straight to her place.
He figures ringing her doorbell won't help, as the video system would tell Chris immediately, he is there so he chooses door number 2 and presses Molly's number.
To his surprise, she buzzes him in and even waits for him upstairs. Seeing Molly lean in her doorframe with a worried expression he can only guess she knows what's going on. Jim can't help but stare at Chris's door, he desperately wants to talk to her.
"She isn't here. But she will be back in a couple of days." he hears it in Molly's voice. She knows exactly what happened.
But he knows her well enough to not pry now. It feels comforting to know Chris will be back and somehow just Molly telling him that gives him hope there still is a chance to save his friendship.
"Can you text me when ..." Street manages to get out.

After Molly had promised to text him as soon as Chris was back, Jim manages to calm down a bit. It is comforting to know she will be back and he can feel that worry to never see her again fall off of him on the elevator ride down. Standing next to his bike he realizes how terrified he had been to maybe never see Chris again. That she might have disappeared from his life, again.

The next few days he focuses all of his underlying nervous energy on figuring out if the path to sergeant is really what he wants and if the prospect of being second in command of their team is even something he can see for himself. He trains alongside Tan and Benni and they quiz each other on the technical and admin details.
Jim can feel his friends studying glances from time to time and he is almost sure they have at least theories of what is going on. In a weak moment, he even fears Benni might know everything. But he tells himself if that were the case Benni would've said something already and in all reality, Molly wouldn't tell him about that.
That day Street figured out a new trick. Focusing on your workouts and all but overexerting yourself leads to a night of dreamless sleep and he can forget that his personal life is in shambles. That he has no answers to all of his questions. That he has no idea where Chris has disappeared to or when she is coming back.
After a week of this new rigorous training and dreamless sleep, the only slumber that would give him a night of rest, because every dream he has includes Chris and the memory of that last night. Street is dead on his feet and on his way to his room when a sharp knock on the front door stops him in his tracks.
With a groan, he heads back through the living room and puts a smirk on his face to make fun of Luca.

"Buddy, if you'd grab your keys..." but he doesn't finish the sentence when he realizes he isn't looking at his roommate as expected but Chris.
Jim is speechless and for a moment he believes he is dreaming or imagining things.
