The puppies were so cute, Ianto ready in move now and although it was a lot of work he did like being needed. The little Red Runt as the kids were calling it, was a little bugger for falling out of the bed and with his mothering instincts in overdrive he got up at least three times in the night to check.
Jack was finally starting to see why Ianto had been hesitant to be a doggy Grandy. It was hard work, it was rewarding but man… each time Ianto got up Jill went too, just in case a Bogey Dog came from the darkness to eat someone. Getting back in meant Jill leaping into Jack's stomach region with glee. Then he has to pee… you see the pattern emerging here.
"How long before they can go to their respective homes?" Jack asked in the dark after night four.
"Eight weeks, I do not feel confident leaving them separate to their mother until at least eight weeks" Ianto said firmly.
"I read six…"
"EIGHT!"
"shit OK, no need to shout" Jack huffed, laying in the bed with the blankets pulled up trying to ignore the dip of the bed as Ianto got up to check again, now pissed at Jack and unable to sleep. Should have kept his mouth shut.
Names were flying about still but now they were calmer. The Reds wanted to call their red one Blaze. Nice. Good. Blaze. Babs and Bethy had spoken to the twins and Blondie was going to be their little one, leaving Walter's family.
Ah yes.
The problem children. Their arguments raging daily as none of them could agree and Walter found out the hard way why the name in the hat idea had made his father snort softly. No one would agree to the same name and each time they did it the names got worse.
Finally he looked to his father for help.
"OK… each of you stand at the back door and call the dog with the name you like. Loudly, I want you to call if… ten times."
Ben was first as he yelled "MONTAGUE.. MONTAGUE… MONTY… Mon… nah bugger it. It's too long."
Penny was next with feet apart as he bellowed "KILLER. KILLER.. oh right. People will think someone is killing me. Right. Stupid."
Maisey looked at her siblings and rolled her eye as she screamed "COW… COW… COW…"
"Sheep. Dog. Bird…. Is this Eye-Spy?" Ben asked then yelped as she swung for him.
Grace then called "Jethro!"
Once, then sighed, shaking her head as it sounded different at a high decibel.
"All good names but they dolt quit sound right, do they? Keep trying." Ianto said as he walked away and Walter gaped after him with horror as the kids all stood for at least another half hour screaming random names into the air.
Geronimo.
Do not ask me why but in the end they all agreed that one was the most fun to yell. So… Geronimo. Ianto already knew the name of their own pup as Imp crooned softly, stroking it with raw affection.
Ozzy.
So they were named. Blaze, Blondie, Geronimo and Ozzy. Sounded like a weird rock group.
And just as loud.
