A/N: I'm lost, but I'll get back on track after this chapter I think. This was just for shits and giggles.
OOOOOOOOOOOOO
"Oops," Scarlet said, looking away from the sight that got her flustered. "You should need a permit to carry that thing."
"Maria!" Logan exclaimed, quickly throwing a blanket over himself. "It's not what it looks like."
"The hell it isn't." Scarlet shook her head, trying to get the image out of her head. "If you needed Me Time, you should have put some kind of little hint on the door. Projected warning thoughts out into the cosmos. Not just whipped it out and had at it. Sheesh. This is a children's school for Pete's sake."
She could tell that she had Logan completely off guard. He didn't know what to say, what to do. Hell, she was pretty sure he was freaking out in his head and she did not want to go in there right now.
Scarlet looked at her hand. "You should probably turn your back and pull your big boy pants up. Wouldn't want to get caught with your pants down around a minor like me, would you?"
Logan growled, but she heard him shift on the bed and then a zipper being fixed. "You should have knocked."
"You should know better," Scarlet argued. She waved her phone in the air. "You and Red were the ones that told me that I had to sleep here. I could just as easily pile blankets in the back of a truck and sleep there. I've done it before and I can do it again."
"You're not sleeping in the back of a truck, Maria. And I thought you were like any civilized person and knocked before entering a room with a closed door." He grunted. "Obviously I was wrong."
"Can I turn around now?" Scarlet asked, rolling her chair back and forth. "I'd like to get on the cleaner side of the bed and take a nap. Which, if you must know, was my intended reason for coming in. Not to get a free peep show."
Logan's hand descended on the back of her chair and he spun her around. Scarlet looked up at him and smirked. He didn't look really amused.
"One of these days, you're going to get into some serious trouble for walking into rooms like this," Logan warned, holding her gaze. "And it won't always be a pleasant sight."
Scarlet rolled her eyes. "Oh yes, because seeing you manhandle your joystick was such a pleasant sight. Excuse me while I write epic poems about it." She snapped her fingers. "Oh shoot. I don't have a pen or paper. What a shame."
Logan said nothing. He just reached under her and lifted the teen up. She let out a little sound of annoyance and smacked him on the pec.
"Hey! You can't manhandle me, bub." Scarlet kicked her feet out, trying to squirm out of his reach. "I'm warning you. Put me down and back away."
"Yes, you're so scary," Logan said, walking towards the bed. "Big tough Maria, who isn't allowed using her powers right now." He glanced at her. "Darling, a ninety year old grandmother would be tougher to fight than you right now."
"Prove it."
"Not right now." Logan said, putting her down on the bed. "I'm going to take your boots off."
"Nope." Scarlet slid her feet away from him. "You're not touching my boots. The boots stay on for naps. Always have, always will." She glared at him. "You should know why. You sometimes sleep with your shoes on."
Logan's brow furrowed as he stood over the bed. "We're not talking about me. Right now, we're talking about you. And Maria, did you really think I didn't know you used your powers the other night?"
Scarlet put her hands behind her head on the pillow. "No idea what you're talking about. I've been a good girl."
"Explain what happened to Pyro then."
"Something happened to Pyro?" She snickered. "Well, I'm sure whatever it was, he deserved it." Her eyes lazily rolled in his direction. "If you haven't noticed, I have no clue where he's been lately. Not that I've bothered wasting energy looking for him. Healing and all, you know."
Logan didn't look convinced. "Explain how he got thrown around then."
There's no way he can see through me. "I haven't the slightest idea." Scarlet yawned. "Can I take my nap now?"
"Maria, we heard you. We know you found where Pyro is stashed."
"Bullshit!" Scarlet exclaimed, sitting up. "If I went to bother him, no one would have heard me but him. So I'm calling bullshit on you."
OOOOOOOOOOOOO
Logan looked down at the teen. "So, you were there."
Heat colored her cheeks. "You sneaky son of a bitch." She pointed a finger at him. "I do not like you."
"Keep telling yourself that. We both know the truth."
Scarlet growled and grabbed the front of his shirt. Logan let out a low growl of warning as he held her darkening gaze. He wasn't going to back down to her.
"Give me one more good reason to beat your ass," Scarlet hissed at him, her canines sharpening. "And I swear to all the gods in creation, I'm going to throw your ass down and beat you."
Logan smirked. "Yeah? You and what army, princess?"
"That's it!"
Logan caught her fist before she could punch him and Scarlet tried with the other one. He caught it in his other hand. The girl, he knew, was extremely flexible, so he had to be quick. Before she could bring her legs up to get at him, he pushed her down and pinned her to the bed with her hands over her head. Scarlet's eyes were burning black.
"Easy, easy," Logan said as she squirmed under him. "Darling, you know you're not going anywhere. So you might as well tell me why you went to see Pyro."
"Like I wouldn't go try to get in the head of my enemy," Scarlet snarled, glaring up at him. "Make him hurt himself. Watch him suffer. If I really wanted to, we wouldn't be having this conversation because he would be dead. And he really should be dead, the little prick."
"I thought you were done killing people."
"This isn't the same!" Scarlet spat. "He deserves to die."
"You don't get to make that call."
Scarlet growled and thrashed on the bed under him. Her skin grew hotter and hotter and he felt the pull on his bones. Logan tightened his grip on her wrists.
"Maria, take it easy," Logan said, trying to keep her in line.
She looked up at him with her black eyes and he noticed a tear falling down the curve of her cheek, then another. "I'm sorry…"
Just like that, she stopped fighting him. Logan watched as she stopped moving on the bed, just breathing shallowly. He eased up his grip on her wrists and backed off. He'd never seen her calm down so fast, if this could even be considered calm.
She's shaking…
"Darling," Logan began as she rolled onto her side and kind of curled in on herself. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm super," Scarlet muttered, sniffing. "What's it look like, Funny Hair?"
Logan sighed and laid down next to her. "It looks like you're breaking down."
Scarlet shook her head and punched the bed. "Nope, not what's happening here. I don't break down."
Logan reached out and put his arms around her, cradling her against his chest. Scarlet remained curled up and let out a little sound. It was easy to ignore. It wasn't like she was fighting him.
"Maria, when adults tell you to do something, they tend to mean well," Logan said, stroking her stomach with light fingers. "Scooter, not so much, but me and the others, we're just looking out for you."
"I can't be this weak, Logan. I can't. Bad things will happen if I can't use my powers or my body correctly," Scarlet cried, punching the bed again.
"It's going to be all right, darling," Logan promised, though he wasn't so sure.
"I can hear the doubt in your voice, Logan." Scarlet let out a low hiss. "Tomorrow – tomorrow I'm getting out of that chair. And I'm going to test out basic powers."
Logan sighed. "Maria, don't push yourself. You have no one that you need to prove anything to. We all know you're rough around the edges and have powers that a lot of people envy. That's enough, ain't it?"
"Not enough for my dad," Scarlet muttered.
"Since when do you give a damn about your dad?"
"Since his righthand man decided to show up on Chuck's land and make himself cozy." Scarlet shook her head. "I tailed him around a lot today and he was just so…." She let out a growl. "I can't believe some of the other girls find him attractive and pleasant. They were playing some disturbing thoughts in their heads. And ugh, my nose."
What thoughts do you play in your head when you look at me?
Logan shook his head. "I'll keep him in line."
"Alpha versus Alpha. Only one can survive," Scarlet said softly, sounding like she was falling out of it. "Big dog eats little dog."
Rather than try to understand her ramblings, which she did under her breath, Logan breathed in the scent of her hair. Scarlet's body warmed his into relaxation and he almost nodded off. Scarlet surprised him though by rolling over in his arms and burying her face in the crook of his neck.
"Don't think this means anything," Scarlet mumbled against his skin. "This or last night."
Logan nuzzled the top of her head. "Yeah, I know."
OOOOOOOOOO
A/N: Yay, thanks. -Scarlet
