The warp pad flashed and Garnet and Steven stood on top of it.
"Where are we?" Steven asked, looking around. He picked out his winter-jacket from his back-pack and put in on.
There was nothing. Just a white blanket of snow and more snow falling from the sky.
Garnet stepped up on the warp. But nothing happened.
She hummed.
"I have no signal out here." Steven grunted, holding his phone. "I guess we have to walk." He looked around again. "But what way?"
Garnet hummed and adjusted her visor. "My future vision predicts that the highest chance of finding civilisation is that way." She pointed towards one direction.
"Great! Then let's go that way!" Steven said as he began walking, Garnet close after.
They walked for a long time. No one really knew for how long. Minutes, hours.
The snow was starting to fall faster, and harder, making it harder to see.
"So if that was their base, and Spinel was there. Then where's Jasper?" Steven asked the fusion as he wandered through the deep snow.
"Off looking for the Cluster, that's for sure." Garnet answered, wiping snow off her visor. "If I'm not wrong, they expected us to go look for them. That's why she left Spinel at the base."
"Do... do they know that we know where the Cluster is?" Steven asked worriedly.
Garnet rest a hand on his head. "For our sake, I hope not."
Steven nodded. "I hope the others are okay." He breathed heavily through his scarf.
Garnet just nodded in response, her face showing slight signs of discomfort.
They walked for a long while.
"Steven?" Suddenly, Garnet stopped. Steven stopped as well and looked up at her in question.
"Yeah?" He replied.
Garnet didn't speak for a long moment. He looked up at her, and she was just standing there. She had no emotion what he could see. It worried him. "Garnet, are you okay?" He asked worriedly.
This time, she looked down at him. "Never better." She replied. "But could we just walk a bit slower? Just a bit?" She asked him.
This made Steven confused with worry, but he stepped back and nodded quickly. "Y-yeah! We don't have to walk fast! We can go as fast as you want!"
Garnet smiled softly, and with a slight grimace they started walking, this time much slower.
From now on the time seemed to have stopped. They walked and walked but they never seemed to get anywhere.
The blizzard was getting worse fast, and soon they were barely able to see anything because of the snow.
Steven noticed how slower and slower they walked.
Garnet was an expert of keeping a strong face during every situation. And it was true. But during their walk, you could see she was frowning behind her visor and her mouth had opened slightly, letting out clouds of steam.
When suddenly, Garnet stopped and went down on all fours, her knees and palms digging into the snow.
"G-Garnet!" Steven gasped in terror and rushed up to her front, falling down on his knees in the cold snow before her. "Garnet! Are you okay?!" He yelled.
Garnet took a deep breath, clouds of steam escaping her mouth.
"Hold on!" Steven raised his hands out to the sides and clenched his eyes shut. And within seconds they were surrounded by his pink bubble.
He made sure it was solid and then stood on all fours like she did, trying to look her in the eyes.
"A-are you okay? Are you hurt?" He started throwing out questions.
Another cloud of steam escaped her mouth and she covered it with her hand.
"Your gems..." He took a hold of her hand, which glew on and off with just a few seconds apart.
He sat down on his rare calmly. "It's okay. Just breathe." He told her. "I'm here."
A few moments went. Whether it was just minutes or hours they did not know.
When suddenly, Steven heard something in the distance. And he could see a light.
"W-who's there?!" He shouted tiredly. He stood up, but yawned a bit. His powers was starting to tire him out. But still, he kept his ground in the cold, snowy wind. Though his form wasn't affected by his surroundings, he still kept a firm stand on the ground.
"What do you want?!" He yelled against the wind. The light was getting closer and the sound was getting louder and louder.
The van's wheels screeched as it stopped.
"Huh?" Steven lowered his shield.
(Play love like you)
When suddenly, two of the doors opened.
"Garnet/Steven!" Pearl and Amethyst gasped as they rushed outside.
Immediately, Steven got tearful with relief. He called their names and un-summoned his bubble.
Amethyst hugged Steven tightly, and he explained what had happened.
Pearl went to Garnet, and got help from Amethyst to lift her up out of the snow.
Once they had brought her inside the van, she collapsed down onto her knees, and the gems, as to say Pearl, Amethyst and Bismuth tried to comfort her in their panic. Even Greg had turned his attention back to the gems, but soon turned back to the wheel and pushed the pedal to the edge of almost breaking.
It took some time, but at last they were out on the road in the still roaring blizzard.
They had laid Garnet on the floor, covered with a blanket. The storm for her seemed to have passed and the atmosphere felt calmer now.
Greg was driving and the gems were sitting or standing somewhere in the back, keeping an eye Garnet.
"Peridot stayed back at Andy's house to prepare for the 'emerging'." Pearl explained out loud to the young boy. "When we got back to the house, Greg offered us the van. We were going to look for you sooner, but the warp-pad was shut down." She explained. "Thank the stars we found you when we did."
Steven nodded and stepped forward, now wearing a blue blanket over his shoulders, and sat down beside Garnet.
"Are you feeling better? Do you need anything?" She asked her, holding her hand tight.
"I want..." Garnet muttered quietly, grimacing. "... to go home."
Steven looked at her sadly. "I know, but we can't-." Before he could end his sentence, the van made a sharp turn and stopped by the side of the road, jolting everyone onboard.
Greg turned around in his chair. "That's what we'll do." He said determined.
Everyone looked back at him in chock.
"But Greg! We can't go back! It's too risky." Pearl tried to protest.
"I don't care." Greg ended for her, standing up and climbing over to the others. He sat down.
"Look, you three have been living in that town for centuries. Heck, Steven was born in that town, Steven grew up in that town. They have no right keeping us away from there!" He said. "You think of that house as your home, Garnet too! So I don't blame her if she wants to have her baby there." He ended.
The others could only look at him as he spoke, mind split in different dilemmas.
When suddenly, Amethyst stood up. "I'm in." She nodded, hands in her pockets.
"Me too." Pearl smiled determined.
"Count me in." A big hand rest against Steven's shoulder. He turned around.
Bismuth smiled determined.
"Pearl! Keep a look-out for the fastest road home!" Greg ordered as he returned to his seat.
"Aye aye, Mr. Greg!" Pearl nodded and joined him in the passenger's seat. "Steven! Call Andy and tell him to tell Peridot change of plans!"
Steven nodded excitedly.
Greg started the engine and put the gear into place. "Next stop: Beach City!"
Amethyst cheered, throwing her fists in the air, Bismuth cheering along her.
Steven smiled and turned back to Garnet. "Don't worry, Garnet. We'll be home before you know it." He smiled towards her and squeezed her hand.
Garnet smiled at him and rest her head against the floor. But the sudden clench of her hand around his hand alarmed him she was in no good shape.
"Hang in there. You too, Sophie."
