Hailey opened Drew's school folder and pulled out all the papers he'd brought home. She found several drawings of birds he'd done, two graded assignments, a postcard from his teacher saying how well he'd done recently, and a letter with the school's official letterhead on it.

She frowned and started reading the letter. Her eyes quickly widened and she glanced up to the living room where Drew was playing with Blake. He rubbed his eye with his fist then grabbed one of Blake's wooden cars.

"Drew," she said quickly.

He looked up, "Yeah?"

"Come here," Hailey dropped the letter to the table, "And bring that car."

Drew sighed, but stood up and brought her the car, "Am I in trouble?"

Hailey held his chin and tilted his head back, "Eyes wide for me."

Drew tried pulling away, "Stop."

"Let me see your eyes," Hailey brushed his hair back out of his face, "Wide open."

Drew pushed against her arms, "No."

Hailey let out a breath and stepped back, "Do your eyes itch?"

Drew shrugged and moved to rub them again, but Hailey grabbed his wrist.

"Do not," she said, "You need to go wash your hands right now then go up to your room."

"What?" Drew's jaw dropped, "Mom! I didn't do anything wrong!"

Hailey softened, "I know, but you might be sick."

"What?" Drew repeated, "No, I promise I'm not. I'm not sick."

Hailey held up the letter she'd found in his folder, "Your class was exposed to pink eye."

Drew's hands shot up to his eyes before Hailey could stop him, "Pink eye? I don't want pink eyes."

"I know, so go wash your hands and go up to your room while I figure this out," Hailey said, "We'll figure it out."

"You have to call Uncle Will," Drew bit his lip.

"I will," Hailey nodded, "It's going to be okay."

"You freaked out," Drew said while walking backwards.

Hailey sucked in a breath, "I…I just want us to all stay healthy. It's going to be fine, baby."

Drew whined quietly, "You only call me 'baby' if something is really wrong."

"I do not," Hailey crossed her arms.

Drew raised an eyebrow.

"Just go upstairs and wash your hands," Hailey ran a hand through her hair.

Drew groaned and tipped his head back before turning and heading upstairs.

Hailey took a deep breath then hurried to grab out wipes from under the sink that she used to clean off the toy car Drew had had. She looked up to see Blake grabbing at his own face.

"Crap," she breathed.

Blake smiled at her and clapped his hands, "Mama!"

She tried to smile, "Hi, Buzz."

Blake laughed and easily pulled himself up with the coffee table, "Mama."

Hailey stepped forward, "Are you going to walk? Can you walk here? Walk to Mommy."

Blake hesitantly let go of the coffee table then stumbled backwards so he fell onto his back. He kicked his legs and rolled over.

Hailey sighed, "You'll get there soon, baby boy."

Blake crawled over, "Mama. Doo. Doo," he looked around, "Doo!"

She picked him up, "Drew's upstairs. He's in his room."

Blake spotted his car on the table and reached for it.

"Oh, not that one," Hailey kissed his head, "Let's play with something else, okay? You have lots of other toys."

Blake whined then patted her face, "Mama." He began babbling and kissed her cheek with a soft giggle.

Hailey smiled at him, "You're so sweet. Come on, we'll play a game until Daddy comes home."

Blake's face lit up and he looked toward the door once Hailey put him on the ground, "Dada."

"Later," Hailey brushed his hair back and tried looking in his eyes for any sign he was sick, but thankfully saw nothing which didn't surprise her since if he did get infected from Drew, she knew it wouldn't be immediate.

She just hoped they were all going to be okay.

Jay was brushing his teeth the next morning when he heard the bedroom door fly open. He quickly spit in the sink and rinsed his mouth before looking out in time to see Drew crawling onto the bed while crying.

"What's happening?" Hailey mumbled as she rolled over.

"They're pink," Drew sobbed, "My eyes are bleeding."

Jay took a deep breath then walked over to turn on the lights.

"Oh," Hailey breathed as she looked in his bright pink eyes.

"They're bleeding and they itch so bad," Drew cried.

"They're not bleeding," Jay said softly and hurried over to him, "Let me see." He gently took Drew's face in his hands and took a deep breath, "They're just red and swollen."

"From blood," Drew whimpered.

"It's not blood, it's just an infection," Hailey rubbed his back, "Uncle Will said if you got it that it wouldn't last too long, maybe a week or two."

"A week or two?" Drew yelled. He tilted his head back and started crying, "I'm a good person. I'm too good for this."

Jay tried not to laugh, "Buddy, calm down, it's fine. Everything's fine." He wiped his thumbs under Drew's eyes, "Deep breaths."

"Jay," Hailey grabbed his wrist.

He froze and stared at his hands, "Oh."

"Yeah, big oops," Hailey hissed, "Go wash your hands."

Jay nodded and returned to the bathroom.

"I'm diseased," Drew fell back on the bed and sobbed, "I don't like this. Someone help me."

"You need to relax," Hailey said softly, "Deep breaths, everything is going to be fine."

Drew shook his head and pressed his hands into his eyes, "They hurt! I'm going to go blind. I hate my life."

"You're not blind," Hailey pulled at his hands, "You can't touch your face."

Drew groaned loudly, "Rosie did this to me! This is why having friends is bad! They give you diseases!"

Hailey took a deep breath then helped him get settled on Jay's pillow, "Stay here. I'm going to get you some washcloths."

"What's the point when I'm dying?" Drew asked.

Hailey patted his leg then walked over to the bathroom where Jay was still furiously washing his hands.

"I can't get it," he said.

"You're going to get it," Hailey grabbed out a washcloth.

"I can't," Jay shook his head, "I just started as sergeant, I can't take a week off."

Hailey wet the washcloth then turned the sink off, "Just accept that we're all going to get sick."

Jay glared at her through the mirror, "You suck."

"Blame Rosie," Hailey kissed his cheek. She walked back in the bedroom where Drew was still crying on their bed. "All right, baby boy," she said softly, "Let's see if we can help you out."

Drew kicked his legs around, "You're calling me a baby again."

"Relax," Hailey sat next to him and set the washcloth over his eyes, "Let's try to sleep more."

"I don't like this," Drew tried to push the washcloth off of him, but Hailey grabbed his hands.

"Drew," she squeezed his wrists, "You need to take a deep breath. Come on, deep breath in for me."

Drew whined, but stopped fighting Hailey and took a deep breath.

"There you go," she rubbed her thumbs over the back of his hands, "Everything is going to be fine."

"I don't like this," Drew repeated.

Hailey closed her eyes and nodded, "I know."

Drew sniffled then mumbled, "Thank you for trying to take care of me."

Hailey smiled and leaned over to kiss his forehead, "You're welcome."

Jay came back in the room while tightening his belt, "Have we calmed down?"

Drew groaned in response while Hailey held back a laugh to say, "I think so."

Jay smiled and winked at her, "Meet you downstairs?"

She nodded before returning to tucking the blankets around Drew in an attempt to help him get comfortable.

Once he was asleep again, she slipped out of bed and grabbed one of Jay's sweatshirts before heading down to the kitchen where he was pouring out two bowls of Cheerios. She smiled and sat next to Blake in his highchair, "Good morning, silly boy."

He smiled back at her and giggled.

Jay poured milk into his bowl and placed the other bowl in front of Blake, "So what's the game plan?"

Hailey took a deep breath, "Well, Will said if it gets really bad, we can get some eye drops and that can help the itching. I'm just hoping it doesn't get all crusty."

Jay slowly nodded as he ate his cereal. "Okay," he wiped his mouth, "I can go out today and grab some eye drops. I just don't want him," he pointed at Blake, "Getting it. I also don't want to get it."

Hailey rolled her eyes, "So you've said."

Jay shrugged, "I need this job and I hate eye drops. This is not a sickness for me."

Hailey laughed, "Wonderful. Definitely just cursed yourself to get it."

Jay shook his head and continued eating.

Hailey smiled at him then took some of Blake's Cheerios for herself. "Dad's gonna get it," she whispered.

Blake laughed and threw a handful of Cheerios over at Jay.

Jay's eyes widened, "Blake!"

Hailey snorted, "He agrees."

"You two are evil," Jay said and picked up the cereal across the table.

Hailey smirked and winked at Blake, "Daddy loves us."

"Dada," Blake giggled and covered his mouth.

"Dad," Drew whined once he rinsed his mouth from brushing his teeth that night, "I'm so ugly."

Jay sighed, "Drew, you are not ugly."

"Look at me!" Drew yelled and spun around to face him, "They're getting worse!"

Jay bit his lip because he was right about that. By the time he had returned home from work, Drew's eyes were twice as red and twice as swollen as that morning. Hailey had also whispered that he was starting to get gunk coming out of them and that it was scaring him.

"Come on," he said softly and put his hand out, "I'll sit with you until you fall asleep."

Drew groaned as he grabbed Jay's hand, "Do you still love me?"

"Oh, bud," Jay brought him to his room, "Yes, I love you."

"Even though I'm a freak?" Drew asked while getting into bed.

"Drew Alexander," Jay sighed, "You're not a freak."

"I am," Drew curled up. He pressed his hands into his eyes and groaned, "I hate this. They're so itchy!"

Jay chewed his lip and blinked his eyes quickly trying to remind himself not to touch them. He tried telling himself it was nothing and just being around Drew that was making him think his eyes were itching.

"I have drops," she said softly, "Is he awake?"

"Unfortunately," Drew rolled onto his back.

"God, you're like your father," Hailey breathed.

Jay raised an eyebrow, "Excuse me?"

Hailey shook her head and knelt next to the bed, "Let's do the drops again."

Drew pulled his blanket over his face, "No."

"Drew, they'll help, remember?" Hailey tugged at the blanket, "It's not a big deal."

"It is," Drew snapped and tightened his hold on the blanket, "Leave me alone."

"I will sit on you," Hailey said.

Jay looked at her and raised an eyebrow.

"You would never," Drew pulled at the blanket again.

Hailey quickly got on the bed and positioned herself on top of him, "I'm not messing around. Let's go."

Drew groaned and tried pushing her off of him.

"You know that you could help," Hailey glared at Jay.

He sighed and pulled the blanket off of Drew, "Come on, buddy."

"This isn't fair," Drew grunted and fought Jay's hands, "You're old adults and real detectives."

Jay's jaw dropped slightly, "We are not old."

Drew broke his hands away and curled up with his head under his pillow.

Hailey groaned, "You know what? Whatever." She got off the bed and walked out of the room.

Jay sighed, "Drew."

"Goodnight," Drew mumbled.

Jay shook his head and patted Drew's back before following Hailey out to their room.

She angrily slammed the bathroom cabinet closed before steadying herself against the counter and taking a deep breath.

"It's just artificial tears, right?" Jay asked softly, "It's not like they're medicated."

"But it's supposed to help," Hailey snapped and looked up.

"Hey, hey," Jay put his hands out, "Take a breath."

"No," Hailey pushed his hands away and walked past him, "I'm pissed off, Jay. You could have done a much better job at that. You really had to let go of him?"

"So this is my fault?" Jay crossed his arms.

"I just had to deal with this all day, why couldn't you step up and help more?" Hailey threw open her closet and pulled out a pair of tennis shoes.

"What're you doing?" Jay asked.

"Getting ice cream," Hailey mumbled, "I want my kid to take his eye drops and I want strawberry ice cream. It shouldn't be that difficult."

"I'll go get you the ice cream," Jay rubbed his face, "You can stay here and lay down. You're right, you've been dealing with a lot today; the least I can do is go get you food."

Hailey bit her lip and hesitated, "Really?"

"Yeah," Jay grabbed her shoes from her hands, "The pink strawberry one?"

Hailey cracked a smile and nodded.

"Got it," Jay kissed her forehead, "Back in twenty."

"Thank you," Hailey breathed as he walked out of the room. She took a deep breath and ran her hand through her hair before falling back on the bed and closing her eyes.

Within five minutes, she heard a soft voice say, "Mom? I think I want that medicine."

Hailey smiled and sat up, "Really?"

Drew nodded and sniffled, "I don't want to go blind."

Hailey laughed softly and put her hand out, "Come here, honey."

"Hey, babe. I have a problem."

Hailey groaned and swatted at Jay's hand on her arm, "I'm sleeping."

"It's a big problem," Jay whispered.

Hailey took a deep breath. After getting the drops in Drew's eyes the night before and eating over half the pint of strawberry ice cream Jay brought in their room, she'd had a hard time getting comfortable in bed and needed Jay to rub her back till she fell asleep. She had absolutely no desire to be woken up so early when their room was still pretty dark.

"Hailey," Jay squeezed her wrist.

She flipped around to face him and hissed, "What?"

Jay scooted back from her to grab his phone, "I think something's wrong." He turned his screen on to show her his face through the dark.

Hailey swore under her breath and sat up, "Jay."

He winced and tried opening his left eye, "I think I got it."

Hailey's face scrunched up at how swollen and gross his eyes looked.

"I can't open them," Jay said.

"Okay," Hailey rolled out of bed, "I've got you."

Jay groaned and dropped his head back on the pillow, "Dammit."

Hailey hurried to the bathroom, "I've been telling you not to touch your face."

Jay quietly mocked her, but didn't say anything as he settled back into the bed.

Hailey returned with a wet washcloth, "You know I'm going to have to put eye drops in later, right?"

Jay sighed, "Yeah."

"God, you look ten times worse than Drew," Hailey breathed as she placed the warm washcloth on his face to gently clean off his eyes.

"Thanks," Jay mumbled.

Hailey frowned and brushed her fingers through his hair. She watched him for a moment then glanced at his pillow. She paused and realized it wasn't totally Jay's fault for catching pink eye.

She was the one who let Drew sleep on Jay's pillow yesterday morning. She should have swapped out his pillowcase, but she had forgotten and now they were in a mess.

"I've never had pink eye," Jay said.

Hailey let out a breath, "I'm sorry. I'll run out and get you some-"

"Nope," Jay interrupted her, "No."

"Hey, no," Hailey reached down and pinched his side, "Shut it. It's happening."

"Maybe this is just sleep in my eyes," Jay pushed her hand with the washcloth from his face.

Hailey raised an eyebrow, "You look like you've been sprayed with pepper spray and then glued your eyelashes shut with yellow calk."

"Make a guy feel hot why don't you," Jay grabbed his phone again and turned on his camera. He winced at his reflection, "It's not that bad. Yeah, it's just sleep. No eye drops necessary."

"We're doing it," Hailey dropped the washcloth back on his eyes, "If Drew can do it, so can you."

"I think we both know I can't," Jay said.

Hailey shook her head and got off the bed. She laughed softly at the memory of holding him down on his apartment floor when he'd scratched his cornea while they were dating to force him to accept the eye drops he'd been prescribed.

"Gently try to rub some of that gunk from your eyes, it's gonna freak Blake out," she patted his foot on the bed.

Jay groaned and blindly threw a pillow in her direction.

Drew pulled at his play-doh to distract him from rubbing his eyes as he watched Monsters Inc with Blake who was completely entranced by the TV.

"Dad," he called out, "Can we name the baby Boo?"

"No," Jay answered without looking up from his laptop at the kitchen table.

Drew groaned, "Dad."

"Nope," Jay said. He rubbed his fist over his eye then groaned himself. He pushed back the files from the case Kim had dropped off and walked over to the sink to wash his hands.

Hailey pushed the front door open and carried in a few bags from the store. She smiled at the TV, "I love this movie."

Drew turned on the couch, "Dad won't let me name the baby Boo."

"Yeah, that's not happening," Hailey said. She looked through one of the bags then tossed him a chocolate bar, "You can have this though."

Blake glanced at Drew then gasped. He spun around and pulled himself up on the couch, "Mama!"

Hailey laughed, "I have something for you too, don't worry."

"Mama," Blake yelled.

"Shut up," Drew mumbled as he unwrapped his chocolate.

"Drew Alexander," Hailey said.

He blushed and sank down to quietly eat.

Hailey shook her head then tapped Blake's nose, "I have M&Ms for you."

Blake smiled and put his hands out, "Mmm."

"Mhmm," Hailey kissed his head, "M&Ms. Sit and wait."

Blake whined, but fell into the pillows and turned back to the TV.

Hailey set the bags on the table, "How's it going?"

"Fine," Jay sighed, "I was just FaceTiming Adam and Kevin. They were catching me up on everything."

Hailey nodded and dug through the bags, "You'll be back in no time."

"I hope so," Jay breathed.

"So," Hailey pulled out a big bag of M&Ms, "I have these for you, but first," she held up a bottle of eye drops, "You need to let me put these in your eyes."

"Hailey, come on," Jay whispered, "I'm fine."

She shook her head, "Let's go upstairs. Come on, I have some other stuff to show you."

"Like?" Jay reached for a bag only to have Hailey hit his hand away.

"Upstairs, big guy," she nodded toward the front of the house, "It looks painful."

"I'm working," Jay said.

Hailey rolled her eyes, "You can take a ten minute break."

"You really think it's going to take ten minutes?" Jay asked.

"Knowing you, it's probably more like half an hour," Hailey picked up the bag.

Jay groaned and pushed back from the table, "Whatever. Fine."

"Thank you," Hailey put her hand on his arm and walked him upstairs to their room. "Lay down," she pointed to the bed before going to wash her hands and grab a soft cloth.

Jay took several deep breaths then laid on the bed, "Hailey."

"Everything's going to be fine," she said while returning to the bed. She quickly sat on him and took his hands in hers, "Here, hold the baby for me." She pressed his hands to her stomach and smiled at him, "Maybe she'll kick for you."

Jay relaxed slightly, "You're getting round."

"Shh," Hailey laughed and dumped out the bag next to her, "I don't want to talk about it." She held up a light pink onesie that said 'Daddy's Girl.' "You want this?" she asked.

Jay's eyes widened, "You bought that?"

Hailey nodded and set it over stomach before uncapping the eye drops, "But I have no issue returning it if you throw a fit over this. It's your prize."

Jay chuckled, "My prize?"

"Mhmm," Hailey leaned over him, "Yesterday I had to bribe Drew with some of those surprise Lego people he's obsessed with. Deep breath for me."

Jay closed his eyes and breathed in.

Hailey smiled, "Jay."

"What?" he asked.

"Eyes open," she said.

"They are," he replied.

Hailey laughed, "Come on. You've got this." She gently tried guiding his eye open with her thumb.

"I really don't want to," Jay squirmed under her.

"You're too tense," Hailey patted the side of his thigh, "Relax."

"I can't do it," Jay shook his head.

"Yes, you can," Hailey pulled at his eye again, "Let's talk through it. When I was picking out that onesie, I was thinking about her nursery."

"Oh really?" Jay asked.

"Mhmm," Hailey nodded, "I think we are going to have to look at new houses. I want her to have her own room."

Jay opened his right eye, "Well, yeah, when she's older, she deserves that."

Hailey smiled and carefully held his eye open, "Maybe we can make it animal themed?" She held the drops over his eye and softly shushed him when he tried turning away.

"Like what kind of animals?" Jay asked.

"Baby ones," Hailey said softly, "Here we go." She squeezed her legs around his middle before tipping the bottle and successfully getting one of the drops in his eye.

Jay blinked quickly and sucked in a breath, "Holy crap. I'm blind."

Hailey laughed, "You sound like Drew. Relax. Let it get in there."

"Jesus Christ," Jay mumbled and squeezed his eyes shut, "I hate that."

Hailey bent down to lightly kiss his nose, "One down, one to go."

"Tell me more about this nursery," Jay took another deep breath, "Distract me from this torture."

Hailey laughed harder and brushed her thumb under his other eye, "I mostly want swallows in her room and, honestly, I think I want it pink. I was against the whole pink girl thing at first, but I want her to have everything I never had and I never got a fancy, girly room. Our baby deserves that."

"Swallows though?" Jay raised an eyebrow without opening his eyes.

"They symbolize good luck and happiness in Greek mythology," Hailey said softly, "But they can also represent new beginnings."

Jay gave in and opened his eyes, "I remember you saying that before."

Hailey smiled slightly and nodded, "I just like them."

"So a pink room with swallows and baby animals," Jay lightly tapped his fingers across her stomach, "I like it."

Hailey held his left eye open with her thumb, "In a new house."

Jay breathed in, "We're going to have to start looking."

"I know," Hailey adjusted her hold on the eye drops.

Jay winced in advance and turned away just as Hailey turned the bottle over him sending a couple drops onto his nose.

She tried not to sigh in frustration, but still let out a soft noise.

"Sorry, sorry," he mumbled.

"It's just one more eye, Jay," Hailey said softly, "Hold on for me."

"I can't do it," Jay grabbed her wrist.

"You can," Hailey shook her head, "We did the first one no problem."

"Okay, okay," Jay took a deep breath and smiled as Hailey was lifted slightly on top of him, "Keep talking to me. That helped."

"All right," Hailey smiled back and gently held the side of his face, "Um, let's see, well, I've been thinking of names."

"Oh yeah? Me too," Jay lightly brushed the backs of his fingers along her stomach.

"Tell me about them," Hailey scooted forward on his chest.

"I realized I don't think I want her to have my mom's name," Jay closed his eyes.

"Open," Hailey lightly hit his cheek and raised an eyebrow.

Jay groaned and blinked his eyes open.

"There we go," Hailey tipped the bottle over, "Why not Charlotte?"

"Because she's not my mom," Jay said, "She's also this piece of you."

"I really don't mind naming her after your mom," Hailey shifted her hand to keep his eye open.

"That's just it," Jay held onto her shirt, "You don't mind it. I want us to absolutely love this name. When we named Blake, it felt right and I knew the second we said it altogether that that was it. I don't know if Charlotte is the name. Are you okay with that?"

Hailey nodded and brushed her thumb over his eyebrow, "I understand, but could we maybe not completely erase it?"

"Of course," Jay stared up at her.

Hailey quickly dropped the medicine in his eye then her face broke into a smile, "Gotcha."

Jay quickly blinked his eyes and pulled at her shirt with a groan, "Make it stop."

Hailey laughed softly, "Just relax and breathe through it."

Jay breathed out through his mouth and closed his eyes, "Tell me your names."

"Well," Hailey continued rubbing her thumb along his forehead, "I actually was thinking of Charlotte, but I think I like her middle name even better because it can go with anything. Plus, it's like your name."

"Jane," Jay smiled.

"Yeah," Hailey breathed. She brushed her fingers through his hair, "I know you didn't want a little Jay Junior, but could we compromise on this one?"

Jay chuckled, "I actually really do like that idea, and you're right. Jane will go with anything, so whatever crazy name Drew comes up with, we'll at least have that."

"Oh god," Hailey laughed, "Let's hope it's not totally crazy."

Jay opened one of his eyes to look at her, "Today he asked about Boo."

Hailey sighed, "Of course he did."

Jay slipped his hand under her shirt, "Whatever we end up naming her and whether or not we really do listen to what Drew says, she's going to be perfect. My little pink bunny or maybe my little birdie. What do you think of that? Can I call her my little bird?"

Hailey relaxed and smiled again, "Like a swallow?"

"Exactly like that," Jay said, "She's our new beginning, Hailey, just like the swallows you've always loved."

Hailey bent down and pressed a kiss to his head. "A little pink bird, who would have thought that's what our baby looked like?" she whispered.

Jay chuckled, "Careful, you don't want to catch this disease otherwise you're going to be looking a little pink too."

Hailey smiled and sat up, "Fine, but the second your eyes are their perfect shade of green again, I will be showing you how much I love you in all your dad glory."

"Can't wait," Jay pushed himself up on his elbows. He tried to wink, but just ended up wincing in pain before falling back onto the mattress.

"We'll do the drops again in a few hours," Hailey said while getting off the bed. She grabbed out a bag of strawberry flavored M&Ms from the Target bag, "But until then, I'm going to go enjoy these on the couch with my boys."

Jay laughed softly and watched her go. He held up the pink onesie and smiled at it.

Hailey's boys.

His girl.

A/N: Hi! Oh gosh, sorry it's been so long! I wanted to have this out on Saturday for my one year of writing, but life got in the way, so I hope you still like this decently long fluffy-ish chapter :) Thank you all for everything and for reading what I write. It truly means a lot to me. You're the best :)
