Here's the next part of the second day of training! I hope you enjoy!

Training Part 3 (Day 2)

Iulia Donovan, 15, D9 Female

"What did she say?" Poale whispered. The two of us were standing with Mist, the boy from 12, Terracotta, from 10, and the pair from 6. It was a tentative alliance. We were trying to cover all of the stations between the six of us, so that we could do as well as possible in the games. None of us were very good at anything, so a larger alliance would be helpful.

"I didn't hear," Terracotta answered. "Anyone else?"

Everyone else shook her head. Mist looked confused. Laila, the girl who had gotten dragged out had been the only person from his district.

"Did you know her well?" Arlo asked him.

"No," Mist answered, shaking his head. "She probably tried to get with one of the trainers or something."

"What?" I asked, surprised that a twelve year old would say that.

"Yeah, that's all she talked about on the train ride," Mist answered, smiling. "She wasn't very nice to me."

"But she was from your district," I reminded him.

"And?" Mist said. "She was from the rich part of the District. Well, as rich as you can be in 12. And I was from the complete opposite part of town. Her getting arrested doesn't affect me at all."

"Alright," I said skeptically. "I'm going to go over to the firemaking station. I don't see anyone else over there right now. Anyone want to come?"

"I'll come," Poale said. The rest of our alliance didn't like me much. They said I was too quiet. But Poale stuck with me. It was probably because he was from the same district. But I was okay with it. They liked him, and if they kept him around they would keep me around too."

Poale and I spent a few hours trying to get a fire going, but we couldn't. The trainer kept pointing out things we were doing wrong, but when we fixed one thing, another problem appeared.

"This is hopeless," I said, sitting back. "We should just give up and find something else to do."

"We're not going to give up," Poale said determinedly. "I think I've almost got it."

"Move your hands down some," the trainer said. "They're too high."

He moved his hands down the stick some and kept trying. I didn't want to keep going, so I stood up and surveyed the room. The pair from 2 and 4 were working together, but I didn't see the tributes from 1. It was odd because the tributes from 1 had always been with the tributes from 4.

Then I spotted them, huddled with the pair from seven. The boy from 1 looked angry and kept gesturing towards the rest of the Careers. I wondered if he wanted to work with them. But his partner evidently said something to appease him, and he fell silent. He asked the boy from 7 something, and then they began walking towards us. I quickly turned back around, not wanting to draw attention to myself.

They weren't coming to the fire station. The two of them ended up at the plant station. They were close enough that I could hear them.

"So this one's edible, right?" 1 asked, bringing it up to his nose to smell it. 7 quickly grabbed it away from him.

"No!" he said. "It'll kill you."

1 started laughing, and then 7 joined in. "Maybe I should leave this stuff to you."

"Glint, I stuck with your teaching all morning," 7 started. "We've been here for two minutes."

"And?" Glint asked, rolling his eyes. "Why do I need to learn this? You'll be there."

"Yeah but what if I die in the bloodbath," 7 asked. "Or when we aren't working together anymore. Because it's not like we'll be able to stay together the entire Games."

"Yeah, I guess," he answered. "When I trained for this I didn't think I'd end up working with the tributes from 7."

"Yeah, and I thought the only time you would look at me was right before you cut my head off."

"I can see why you thought that," Glint answered, laughing. I kicked Poale in the back. He turned around with his mouth open, but I shushed him.

"Look at this," I whispered. "The tributes from 1 are allied with the tributes from 7."

Poale stared at the two boys, wide eyed. I could tell he wanted to say something, but he didn't.

"Pretend to work," I said. "We can listen in on what they have to say. Maybe even pick up on what their strategy for the Games might be."

Anya Marshall, 17, D11 Female

I didn't have any allies. Yatsu refused to do anything. So I was on my own. There were other loners, but they all had a hard look on their face that told me I didn't want to go near them. There was a larger group of six, with most of the young tributes, the careers, and then the alliance between 1 and 7. It was something I never thought I would see.

Most of the first day, I worked on survival skills. I learned how to identify some of the basic edible plants, how to start a fire, and even how to set a trap. Today, Sky told me to try out some weapons. I decided to go over to where the throwing knives were. They were one of the smallest weapons, and nobody was at the station.

When I got there, the trainer taught me some of the basics. I ended up getting pretty good at them. After an hour or so, I was able to hit close to the center of the target with both hands.

"Maybe you should try a moving target," the trainer suggested. "One that is shaped like a human."

"I guess," I said nervously. The trainer went off, presumably to get the targets.

"You look like you're doing pretty good with those," a voice said from behind me. I stopped myself from jumping, and turned around. It was the girls from 1 and 7.

"Thanks?" I said, confused.

"I'm Lyla," the girl from 1 said. She gestured to the girl from 7. "And this is Grove."

"I'm Anya," I said automatically, still confused.

"Can I show you something?" Lyla asked. She gestured to the knife. I shrugged and handed it to her. She held it, slightly different than the trainer had shown me. "If you hold it like this, it'll make throwing a lot easier."

She threw it and hit the exact center of the target. She grabbed another and handed it to me. "You try."

I adjusted it in my hand slightly then threw it. It just barely missed where hers had hit, just a little farther to the left. Lyla grinned.

"See," she said. "It helps."

"Thanks," I started, "but why are you helping me."

"You looked lonely," Grove said, moving out from behind Lyla. "And you didn't look like the other creeps that are alone. By the way, what's with your partner?"

"He refuses to use any of his strength," I said, sighing. "I've tried everything, but he won't change his mind. So I guess I'll go into the Games alone."

"I wouldn't be so sure of that," Lyla said, looking at Grove, who shrugged. "Why don't you come with us. I'll introduce you to our district partners."

"Really?" I asked, stunned. I hadn't thought someone from a Career district would notice me.

"Of course," Lyla said. "Why would I lie to you?"

"I hear you've made an alliance," Sky said to me as soon as I walked out of the elevator. "With Districts 1 and 7."

"Is that a bad thing?" I asked nervously.

"Not necessarily," she said. "I've heard that the tributes from 1 aren't as vicious as they usually are. In fact, I was talking to one of their mentors, Flash, earlier today. He was complaining about how both of them refused to make an alliance with the Careers. His main complaint was that both of them were too kind."

"They were both pretty nice. Especially Lyla."

"Make sure you don't trust them too much," Sky said. "They might appear to be nice, but I wouldn't be surprised if one of them stabs you in the back."

"You think Flash was lying?" I asked.

"No," Sky said after a long pause. She laughed suddenly. "He was extremely drunk. I think that aligning yourself with the four of them give you a higher chance of survival, at least for the first part of the Games. Make sure you gain as much information as possible. From any of them. Hazel is extremely pleased with their tributes for this year. Even the girl. How old is she?"

"Hazel? Oh, their mentor. Umm, I think she's around thirteen," I answered. "One of the youngest."

"Well according to Hazel, she's going to get a high score," Sky said. "Did you learn anything useful today?"

"Throwing knives," I said. "Lyla helped me get better with moving targets. She says that I could probably kill someone with it. She looked proud."

"That's great," Sky said, looking more excited. "I'm glad you've found allies. And I did tell you that you'd find something you were good at."

"That's true," I said, sitting down on the couch across from her. "Did you have any ideas of what I could do to gain sponsors?"

"Not yet," she said. "I'm going to talk to some people I know tomorrow. I'll see what they think. Anyway, how's Yatsu?"

"Still refuses to do anything," I said. "I've stopped worrying. He's decided that he's going to die in the Bloodbath."

"I wish there was something we could do," Sky said sadly. "But I'm going to focus on you. I want to get you out of there, alive."
