Sophie and her friends had been endlessly planning their escape attempt for the past week. They knew that it would be impossible to get out on their own, but they were also aware that the Black Swan would attempt to execute a rescue mission, and there was no way that they were going to sit back and watch. They were going to help weather the plan would succeed or not.
They were ready for this, they had to be, because this was their only chance, and they weren't going down without a fight.
While the cell restricted their abilities, it couldn't take away their talents. So they worked with what they had. Night vision was out, seeing as though the room way always bright. So was body temperature regulation, which seemed pointless when they were in a room-temperature area. And suppressing hunger wasn't hard with the food given to them.
Luckily, those abilities were not as crucial as levitation, or outward-channeling.
Sophie was currently attempting to use that second talent on a pen she had snatched from the cloaked figure who escorted her to her (now extremely awkward) meetings with Gethen.
She didn't realize that causing a pen to explode may not be the best idea until it was to late. But she was honestly to worn out to care.
"Ugh, I feel like my brain is about to explode." Sophie said in exasperation.
"You mean like your pen?" Dex asked, while splattered with ink.
"Oops, sorry about that." she said.
"Nah, it's fine. Way worse has happened at Slurps and Burps, especially since the triplets started working there." he replied.
Sophie again felt guilty for dragging them into this.
"Hey, this is not your fault." Dex said softly, as if reading her mind.
"Well, it kinda is." Stina stated. Dex elbowed her. "What?" she asked.
Sophie sighed, "The important thing is that we're busting out of here."
Everyone had been been endlessly planning the rescue mission for the past week. Every waking moment was spent perfecting their complex strategy: kick some Neverseen butt!
They had also been practising their talents and abilities, learning new tricks to give them a secret advantage.
Keefe had actually begun to train with Grady, learning to control his voice because, in the end, it all came down to him. No pressure there.
They were doing all of this training, and planning, and strategizing because they all knew; this was their only chance, and there was no way they were coming out of this without Foster. Oh and Dex. Okay fine, and Stina too.
And now, it was finally time. Everything had been leading up to this.
Keefe was in his room, preparing for the journey ahead. At the moment, he was filling his hidden pockets (he finally understood Foster's obsession), running his head through their plan, making sure he hadn't forgotten anything. There was no way that he was going to allow a repeat of last time.
When he was finally sure that he was ready, he took a deep breath, and walked downstairs.
Everyone had their game faces on, and everyone knew exactly their part to play, there was no need for a millionth rundown. Biana had ripped the sleeves off of her black tunic which was identical to the ones that everyone else were wearing. Keefe assumed it was a statement, for when she hoped to take on Vespera.
The whole collective was there in their always-odd disguises. Fitz looked angry, a fire burning in his eyes worthy of Marella, who was also present and looking ready for the battle ahead. And the Ruewens looked determined, protective.
They cared more about this mission than anyone possibly could. Well, except Keefe, who wasn't sure if he could last one more second standing there.
Keefe lifted the crystal that he had created especially for this moment, and Grady placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder, giving his support. Keefe couldn't help but wonder if it was also a blessing, but he tried to stifle the thought.
"Let's go"
Shout Out: to @BookShipper13! Thanks so much for reading/reviewing! I'm thinking that Kenric is one of his made up identities considering that he doesn't seem to be as old as the original Forkman. Also, yeah Keefe actually suspected that he triggered the abilities of Bex and Lex in "Unlocked". (a moment of silence for Rex...)
