Capture Twenty-Eight: True love's kiss
Tonight was the Cotillion.
Everyone was excited as they did the red carpet and walked onto the ship. Vanessa had tried to be excited but she had a lot on her mind. Yesterday and all day she has tried to talk to Ben but he has locked himself in his room the whole time. She didn't understand why he couldn't just talk to Mal and work their problems out. Then her dad came to mind and wondered if he was okay. Did her parents really know that he was on the Isle? Were they ever gonna tell her?
"Hey, you okay?" Hunter asked
Their carriage just stopped and the footman helped them out.
"Yeah, I just feel...like we didn't accomplish anything." She whispered
"Hey, you can't save everyone. What happens between them is not our fault?" He said as he placed a hand on her cheek. "Let's not let this ruin our night together and just fun with our friends."
She nodded in agreement and kissed him before the two walked down the red carpet. Vanessa's dress was red velvet with a tulle waist, with arm black arm length gloves and her hair in a messy wave with braids. Hunter was in a suit that was black and green with a dragon on the back. They both looked like the perfect couple together as everyone took photos of them. When they were done they entered the ship and waited for their friends. Evie and Doug were already there and Carlos and Jane just came a few minutes before them. There was a funny moment when they saw how happy Fairy Godmother was when she saw them dating. Then they got a surprise when Jay finally came and saw that he was bringing Lonnie as his date. All that they were waiting for was Mal and Ben. It wasn't long till the ship took off and started to sail. After a while Lumiere came to announce Mal's appearance.
"The future Lady Mal." He announced
She came out in her yellow and blue dress and looked a little nervous. It went away when she saw her friends and walked down the steps. Adam came to help her down and told her that Ben was on his way.
"I know we were shocked at first, but you...you are exactly what Ben needs." Bell said
"And lucky for me, she doesn't go by first impressions." Adam smiled
"Daddy." Vanessa chuckled before taking her hand to bring to the group. "How are you feeling?"
"Like I'm gonna throw up." Mal muttered
"That's okay, that's normal. Look, we're all right here with you." Vanessa said
"Okay." Mal smiled
The fanfare played again to announce Ben's arrival.
"King Benjamin!" Lumiere announced
Ben walked down the stairs and Mal and Ben bow to one another.
"Mal, I wish I had time to explain." Ben said
He looked up at the stairs to Vanessa and the VK's surprise it was Uma and she was dressed up in a teal gown. This made everyone gasp. Vanessa looked at Mal and saw how heartbroken she was. For the first time she wanted to hit her brother. Ben helped Uma down the stairs and went to kiss her hand that had his ring.
"I'm sorry. It happened all so fast." Ben said "Something happened to me when I was on the Isle with Uma. A connection."
"What are you saying?" Mal asked
"I'm saying…" Ben said
"It was love." Uma giggled "It was."
Vanessa narrowed her eyes at this.
'She's lying.' Her inner vampire said
"I just...I realized how alike Ben and I are, you know?" Uma said
"We are." Ben sighed in happiness.
"I know." Uma laughed
"You're so beautiful." Ben smiled
"Ben? Ben. Did you go back for her?" Mal asked
"He didn't have to. I dove through the barrier before it closed, and I'm an excellent swimmer." Uma explained
"You are." Ben smiled
"Aw, thank you." She laughed again.
"Something isn't right." Vanessa whispered to Hunter. "She's lying about being in love."
Hunter looked at Ben and noticed that he was acting the same way when Mal gave him the love potion.
"Listen Mal." Uma said as she took her hand. "I just really want to thank you, I do, for everything. Thank you. Thank you so much."
She hugged Mal but the fairy-witch didn't hug back.
"Don't you see, Mal?" Ben said "You were right. You knew that we weren't meant to be together. That's why you never told me that you loved me. Thank you."
This really hurt Mal.
When the music started to play Uma handed her purse to one of the girls before dancing with Ben. Unable to see this Mal was about to leave.
"Mal wait, this isn't Ben. He's been bewitched." Vanessa said
Mal didn't hear her so Jane thought of an idea.
"Lumiere, unveil the gift. They need to see it!" She said
"And now for the unveiling of King Ben's masterpiece, designed especially for his lady." Lumiere announced
On the other side of the ship the glass painting of Ben and Mal was revealed to everyone. Mal was stunned by this. In the painting it showed how Ben saw her and he loved her for who she was. The painting seemed to have got Ben attention too as he couldn't stop looking at it.
"Ben did that?" Mal asked
"Yes, he did." Vanessa smiled
"Oh. You guys, Ben's known who I was all along." Mal smiled as they all walked down the stairs. "Oh!"
"He loves the real you, M." Evie said
"A true love." Mal said
"Yeah." Evie and Vanessa said
"Told you." Hunter smirked
This angered Uma and looked over at Lumiere.
"Cover that back up!" Uma glared
Her true self was showing.
"I will not." Lumiere scoffed
Seeing how everyone was staring at her Uma tried to look like a sweet girl again.
"Um-uh...why don't you tell everyone the present you have for me, Ben?" She asked
"I have an announcement." Ben said "Uma will be joining the court tonight as my Lady."
"Son." Adam said
"Not now, Dad!" Ben shouted
'This was so not Ben. He never disrespect dad like that.' Vanessa thought
"Uh, so as my gift to her, I'm bringing down the barrier once and for all." Ben announced
Everyone gasped in disbelief.
"Fairy Godmother. Bring down the barrier." Ben said
"I most certainly will not." Fairy Godmother said
"I am your King!" He yelled
"Obey him." Uma demand
"Give it Uma. It's obvious that you placed a spell on him!" Hunter shouted
"Uma must have found my spellbook." Mal gasped
Trying to keep Ben in her control she tried to keep his eyes onto her.
"Ben. Ben. Look at me." Mal said
"No, look at me." Uma glared with a smile. "You loved me, remember?"
"No, you don't."
"Yes, you do."
"Ben, look at me."
"Bring down the barrier now!" Uma glared
"I do not take orders from you." Fairy Godmother scolded
"Ben?" Uma said
"Ben, I never told you that I loved you because I thought that I wasn't good enough." Mal explained "And I thought that it was only a matter of time before you realize that yourself. But, Ben, that's me!" She pointed to the painting. "I'm part Isle and part Auradon."
Uma tried to get his attention again but Mal stepped in again.
"But Ben, you always knew who we were and who we can be." Mal smiled
"Don't listen to her." Uma glared
"Ben, I know what love feels like now." Mal said "Ben, of course, I love you. I've always loved you."
She stepped up and kissed him.
The spell seemed to break as he looked like his normal self again.
"Mal." Ben smiled and they kissed again.
"True love's kiss." Vanessa and Evie whispered in aw. "Works every time."
After seeing that Ben was no longer in her control she tried to grab Fairy Godmothers' wand. She couldn't as the guards came after her so she went to jump off the ship.
"No. No. Stop, please. Stop!" Mal pleaded before looking at Uma. "Uma, I know you. You are so much more than just a villain. And you have to believe me, because I have been there. Do not let your pride get in the way of something you really want."
Uma's necklace started to glow and she jumped overboard. It wasn't long till she reappeared in her true form. Just like her mother she had the ability to transform into a giant humanoid octopus.
"True love's kiss won't defeat this!" She smirked "The world will know my name!"
She thrashed one of her tentacles at the ship a few times, rocking the boat. Vanessa really wished she had her wand and broom right now. Unknowingly she was about to take off her medallion but Hunter stopped her.
"If you do this you'll reveal yourself." He whispered
She nodded.
Her inner vampire wanted to come out and fight. She couldn't. She couldn't risk it out in the open.
When Mal had enough and wanted to protect everyone her eyes' started to glow green again. Purple smoke surrounded her and transformed her into a dragon. She sore into the sky and shot fire at Uma. It missed and Uma tried to hit her with another tentacle. The fight continued on for a while until Ben let out his Beast roar and jumped in the water. He swam to get between the two.
"Mal! Uma! Stop! Back down!" Ben shouted
Uma laughed.
"What are you gonna do, Ben?" She asked "Splash me?"
"That's enough." He said "It's got to stop! This isn't the answer! The fighting has got to stop! Nobody wins this way! We have to listen and respect each other. It won't be easy, but let's be brave enough to try. Uma, I know you want what is best for the Isle. Help me make a difference."
His words seemed to hit her as her face softened. She gave him back his ring before diving in the water and swam away. No one was sure if it was to the Isle or off somewhere in the sea. When she was gone Ben swam back to the ship and got back on with the help of Jay and Carlos. Mal transformed back into her human form but this time her dress was changed back to her purple colors.
"Whoo. So, I didn't know I could do that." Mal muttered to Evie.
"Tell me about it. That makes two of us." Evie said "Shall we?"
"We shall." Mal nodded
When they got closer Ben quickly pulled her in for a kiss. He only stopped when Carlos pulled him away.
"I owe you guys so much." Ben smiled
All the VK's agreed.
"If there is anything that you need or anything I can do for you…" Be asked
"Um, actually, there is, Ben." Evie said "Um, I know a girl who would really love to come to Auradon. It's Drizella's daughter, Dizzy. She's like a little sister to me."
"Then she should come." Ben smiled
This made Evie smile.
"Actually, Ben! There are a lot of kids who would really love it here in Auradon." Vanessa said
"Kids just like us, who also deserved a second chance." Hunter added, wrapping an arm around her waist. "I can make a list for you if you like."
"Yes, yes! Absolutely, please." Ben smiled
Everyone cheered and applauded with his decision.
"M'lady Mal, we found your spell book below deck." A guard said, handing her the book. "Uma had it."
Mal looked at the book before handing it to Fairy Godmother. She knew who she was now so she didn't need it anymore.
