Hey there guys! So, I know that the story is finished, but I wanted to include one last special chapter in order to clear up some confusion for any fans of the story who were not happy with the ending.
Before I start, I want you to understand that your opinion is entirely your own and I don't hold any resentment for them. In fact, I find different opinions good because then I might see a new perspective to something that I didn't realize before. However, I noticed that most of the opinions from the people who didn't like the ending seem to have something in common: The wish to see Elsa be punished for her past actions and the desire to have Anna travel the world while Elsa is put back on the throne of Arendelle in order to atone for all she put Anna through. This is the main concern of mine and I want to clear up any sort of confusion as to why Anna rejected becoming a Blessed One and stayed in Arendelle.
Firstly, I don't believe Elsa deserves to be punished for what happened in the past. Yes, she did put Arendelle in danger more than once. The first time when she froze the kingdom, and the second when she awakened the spirits and they attacked Arendelle. However, there is something that we all need to remember here: Elsa suffered a traumatic childhood for more than 13 years, which in a way affected her ability to judge the choices she makes and the consequences that might follow her choices. She was made to believe that she should hide her powers away, conceal her emotions, and keep everyone, even Anna, at arms-length. She believed herself to be a monster, and hid away from everyone so that she wouldn't hurt them. Thus, she had no control over her powers and was constantly fearful. She ran away from Arendelle with the belief that it would protect everyone, not realizing what her magic did to Arendelle after she left. She followed the voice she heard, not knowing that she would awaken the spirits and cause them to attack Arendelle.
So she never meant to freeze Arendelle and while she might not have said it outright, you could tell how remorseful she was when she found out that she unintentionally did the very thing that she desperately tried not to do. The same can be said for when she awoke the spirits, as she did so unwittingly as she heard the voice calling to her and was trying to understand its purpose. And when she and Anna discovered what their parents were doing, she felt it was her fault that they perished.
So Elsa does feel bad for all the trouble she has caused to her sister, to Arendelle and anyone else around her, and even does what she believes she needs to do in order to make things right. But does that mean she should be punished for everything that happened, although she never meant for those events to happen? In my opinion, no. To me, it's like telling a person that they are being sentenced to life in jail for murder, even though they only killed that person because that person was actually trying to kill them and they only did it in self-defense. To me it's the same concept.
Elsa never meant for any of those events to happen. And you could tell she was how sorry she was for everything that happened because of her. Which the people of Arendelle respond with kindness because they understand this. While they were definitely in danger for a while during these events, they all ended up safe and sound and saw how much both Elsa and Anna cared for Arendelle in their own way, with Elsa by running away so that she wouldn't be a danger to them, and with Anna risking her life to go and bring Elsa back to unfreeze Arendelle.
Also, yes, Elsa definitely dumped her responsibilities onto Anna and ran off in Frozen 2, that much I am not arguing because that is exactly what I felt she did as well. However, she didn't repeat this in my Frozen 3 story. In my story, she owned up to her mistakes and gave Anna the choice on whether she wished to stay in Arendelle or leave. And when Anna made her choice to stay, Elsa then made the choice to stay in the forest with the elemental spirits, because though she wasn't sure if they would need her again now that the balance between magic and humans was restored with Umanakia's rebirth, she wanted to be around if they did. Throughout my story, as she worked to free Anna and regain her magic, she was able to reflect on her past with her sister and understand just how much her actions affected everyone around her, including Anna. Thus, her offering to be Queen again was her way of making it up to Anna for her selfish actions. But since Anna wanted to stay, Elsa choose to continue to guard the forest should the spirits need her again, just like the previous Blessed One of Ice before her.
Second, a few readers are upset that I didn't give Anna magic. While I totally understand why, here is my reasoning for it: Anna went her whole life without magic. She grew to become a strong, independent woman who had a quirky and fun personality that everyone loved. Yes, she did make a dumb decision by getting engaged to Hans right after meeting him, but you have to remember that she was also practically all alone most of her life. Her sister no longer played with her or even wanted to be around her, her parents spent a good chunk of their time looking after Elsa, and she basically had to pass her time in anyway she could since she was stuck in the castle. She craved for love that could be her own, someone who be by her side and never abandon her. So when the charming Hans comes into the picture and gives her what she believed she was looking for, she did what I believe anyone would have done in her position and jumped at the opportunity. But after everything that happened with Elsa and Hans, she grew and matured from the experiences. All of this without magic. The same is said for Frozen 2. However, the reason I wrote this story was because I was upset at how they put Anna on the back burner while putting Elsa in the spotlight, despite the fact that they advertised the film to make it look like this would be a journey for the two of them to make together, to find the truth of Elsa's magic and the secrets of their family's past. Instead, they pushed Anna off to the side and had the majority of it be about Elsa. The only moment of importance that Anna had was when she tricked the Earth Giants into destroying the dam and breaking the curse over the forest. While Elsa once again gets a glow up, a new outfit, a new job title, and a grand destiny.
So for this story, I wanted Anna to be the main focus. When I saw the deleted scenes that she was involved in, as well as some deleted songs, I could tell right away that Anna was holding back repressed feelings that she was never allowed to let out because she was always having to worry over Elsa. The producers of the film made Anna into a worrywart over Elsa and the only lesson Anna was made to learn was that she had to let her sister go. Which I felt was BS, because it seemed like Elsa didn't really care one way or another about Anna's feelings on the matter, and kept shouldering all the burdens herself. This is something I expressed in one of the previous special chapters, so read that one if you want a better explanation on that.
Anyway, in this story, Anna begins to feel inferior to Elsa, and when the spirit of Darkness shows up and offers her the chance to become just as special as Elsa was, she took the chance. Now, some readers will argue that her doing this caused Arendelle to be put in danger. However, I want you all to remember that I wrote the story to show that it was both Anna and Elsa's fault that things got so out of hand. It was Elsa's fault for not simply apologizing to Anna about the Atohallan incident and talking things out with her, instead she decided to go to the island to find the sapphire that would inevitably lead to the Light and Darkness spirit being freed. And it was also Anna's fault that she took the spirit's deal, putting Arendelle in danger of the spirit's plans. I made this story in a way that it was kind of like a role reversal from the first film. Instead of Anna going to save Elsa and Arendelle, it was now Elsa's turn to be the one to save Anna. And because Elsa's magic was stolen from her, it gave her a chance to see the world from Anna's eyes. Not having her magic forced her to learn to adapt and not take her magic for granted and rely on it for everything. Then once her magic is returned and Anna regains some control over her body, they finally work together as a team to stop the First spirit's attack.
After everything is restored and everyone is safe and sound, although she lost her inner magic that had protected her for all these years, the Light and Darkness spirits uphold their end of the deal and give Anna the chance to become a blessed one. However, after the crazy adventure they had been through and everything her desire for magic put her and Arendelle through, Anna realizes that she doesn't need magic. Sure, she had wanted magic, but she no longer felt like she needed it anymore. She was happy with who she was and finally felt that she found her place in the world without Elsa's influence. And though Elsa's offer to travel the world was definitely appealing to Anna, when she saw how much her people truly cared for her and needed her, she no longer felt as though she was second best. That, and she was actually given the CHOICE to stay in Arendelle as Queen or leave.
So, while I definitely think it would be cool if she had magic like Elsa, I felt that her not having magic but still being a powerhouse of a person really defines who she is. And with the revival of the Umanakian kingdom, there will be more people with magic out there, so now Elsa is not the only special one out there. Instead, I had the Light and Darkness spirit create the arm bracelet for Anna, then have the Nature spirit put a piece of their magic in it so that she could choose if she wanted to use magic or not. She can choose to take off the bracelet and give it to her children for them to use, and so on and so on.
Basically, the point of all of this was that Anna was finally given a CHOICE. A choice on whether she wanted to be Queen, a choice to have magic or not, and a choice on what it was she wanted for her life. Not to simply go along with whatever happens because of ELSA's choices and pick up the pieces from Elsa's mistakes. And after the whole ordeal with her, the Light and Darkness spirits, and her sister, I felt like it was more in line with who she was a person to decline on getting magic powers and running off to do her own thing.
Now, some people were worried that Anna lost her freedom by choosing to be Queen and that she and Kristoff would be miserable with her choice to stay. But that's not true. Sure, she wouldn't be able to travel as much as could have if she had let Elsa go back to being Queen of Arendelle. And while it is definitely true, in history, royals didn't have as much freedom as regular people. However, that doesn't mean that they were trapped in their countries. They just needed to keep up a very detailed schedule in order to maintain balance of both their personal lives and public personas.
That, coupled with the fact that Arendelle appears to be a very well loved and thriving kingdom, as well as their love for the royal family, I'm 100% certain that they wouldn't be against Anna taking the occasional trip to other countries. And since she is a royal, those other country's rulers would receive her as an honored guest, even if only to maintain friendly relationships with her kingdom. Also, like her parents before their tragic passing, she could go on trips to other countries to attend important events and occasions. Like Anna said in the ending, she would just need to find the right balance.
And in regards to her and Kristoff being unhappy because of the limitations due their status, I would like to point out that Kristoff proposed to Anna, knowing FULL WELL that she was a princess and had obligations to her kingdom and her people. And even after she became Queen, he was still willing to be with her, even dressing up nicely for the statue unveiling despite not really being comfortable in fancy clothes, because he loved her and was willing do to compromise just for her. Yes, he would have a hard time adjusting to her way of life, but its not impossible. And it also seems like no one else in Arendelle has a problem with him and how he is, so I don't think we'll have much issue with it.
So I think it's fair to say that her being Queen isn't going to badly affect her relationship with Kristoff or her ability to see the world. She just needs to make sure her schedule is very well thought out lol.
SOOO, that basically rounds up the major reasons as to why I ended the story the way I did. Now, if anyone feels they have any other issues or things they don't understand about why I wrote my story the way I did, please feel free to either hit me up in the PM's or ask me in the reviews and I'll write another Special Chapter to help clear up the misunderstandings. Remember, I'm totally okay with your opinions on how you feel things should have ended, but I will say that if you really feel strongly about it, then please write a story on how you would have like for things to go and I will happily read it. I like reading stories on Fanfiction because I like finding stories from likeminded people who feel the way I do about movies, Tv, books, etc.
Again, thank you all for the support this past year. You all have been awesome!
