Take me further down the forbidden path 28
I was going to originally going to say that this chapter was going to be nothing special but i got writing and turns out its not. yes its a bit short but it will be all good. As natural and neutral this story is feeling there are still some curve balls to be thrown and i hope you all are excited for them. Sorry not sorry but try not to get to upset.
"Henry Daniel Mills!" Unlocking the front door Regina wasn't expecting to hear he son being yelled at. "Put that money back right now!" Walking closer giggling could be heard and a clatter of something spilling. Entering the living room she couldn't imagine what Henry had done to cause such a struggle yet at the sight her eyes took it all in making her crack a smile. Laying scattered across the table, floor and her son was debris from the monopoly board game his blonde mother about to join it.
"Wait wait mom oh nooo!" Money tears in two as she falls over the table onto him. He's not hurt just squished and laughing as she struggles to get fully over the table and on the floor next to him. This particular scenario never happened when she caught him stealing. She would always just trick him to spend the money or steal some herself. This was way more entertaining but would never be her method.
The pair only see her when she begins chuckling in the door way. She left work feeling so exhausted and upset. This was oddly what she needed. Clutching her side as she laughed a little harder.
"Mom you're home!"
"Gina!" They both scrabbled to there feet not caring what mess they made further. "Sorry just always hated cheating in monopoly."
"Ma is just a sore loser."
"I was winning that makes you the sore loser." She is the perfect fun mom Regina could ask for, she herself not really one. Henry was never bored but she could never have this much freedom with him. The more time she spent as a family the more she believed one day she could.
"You two clean up that mess and tell me what you'd like for dinner."
"Mom can we do meatball subs?" Henry asked knowing the ground beef in the fridge would only last another day or so.
"Mm that sounds delicious." Emma drooled making both Henry and Regina chuckle a little. Regina shooed them off to the bathroom and got quickly started prepping the meat. After a few minutes a loud clatter comes into the kitchen making Regina who was holding tongs in her hand glare disapprovingly.
"What am I raising two children?"
"I'm offended! I'm not a child just young at heart." Despite saying this she nudges Henry's shoulder as if the say he's the child. They shove back and forth until Regina snaps the tongs loudly. They rush to get the table dressed and help out knowing the kitchen was not the place to fool around.
Once dinner is set, enjoyed, and cleaned up Henry is ready to watch a movie together when both Emma and Regina enter the living room. With a yawn they are ready to fall asleep almost instantly curling up on the couch together. As nicely as he could after the movie Henry woke up his moms. Emma checked her phone for the time as she stretched over the edge of the couch. Falling on her face she groans and helps Regina up less clumsily.
"Ive got a voicemail from Neal I suppose he called to say how things went and what he planned on doing now."
"You guys can tell me in the morning I'm exhausted."
"Mm me to my prince." Regina sweeps his hair clear of his forehead to place a kiss. Emma does the same before taking the lead up the stairs. She had worked late the night before and early that morning. No one was more tired than Regina who slid into bed and fell asleep right away. Emma contemplated listening to the voicemail then or in the morning but ultimately listened anyways.
"Hey Emma. I cant explain everything but things here are a mess and I cant wait to come back. Maybe I can take Henry out. Should be there in the morning at least. Look I uh came here to break it off with my girlfriend but she's crazy and im trying to make it back to town before shit gets more crazy just tell Henry I miss him and if you can meet me at the town line tomorrow around 10 am. Okay bye." As sheriff and one of Henry's mothers she felt a chill run through her. What was he worried about. Was she going to follow him and he needed Emma to cut her off and turn her back around. Pinching the bridge of her nose she decided to set and alarm and just get it over with.
The next morning as she explained things to Regina and Henry they too looked a little worried. Promising to call as soon as she found out what the big deal was she left for work. Henry for school and Regina to work as well. Giving Neal a call, Emma hoping he'd answer anyways but he didn't, as she grabbed the cruiser and headed to the town line. Her car sat on the side of exiting the town while she stood at the line. Her hands on her hips badge prominent. Suddenly she hears a car engine speeding. Then a second. She realizes there is a pair of racing cars down the empty road she remembers almost no one would natural go down.
"Shit." Her hand is on her gun. "What the hell is he doing." The second car swerves to the side of what is now clearly Neal's car. They aren't concerned with the police cruiser but just like that Emma realizes she hasn't crossed the line. Could they even see her with the magic protecting this town. Crossing over she summons her magic as easily as ever but waits to use it as a last resort. Gun up she yell. "Police. Stop!"
BANG!
Emma drops the gun and throws up her hands.
SCREECH!
Neals car flies past her over the town line without any real control and barrels off road. Emma pushes with everything she has against the car in front of her. It stops from smacking into what she imagines is the barrier that would crush the car to prevent outsiders unlike herself and Neal. Its with her magic she rips open the doors. Tosses a woman and man out onto the ground. The woman was driving while the man losses a gun of his own. It skids across the pavement but she so focused on keeping the two there so she can cuff them.
Instead of bringing them across the town line she flips them both on the backs. Calling the hospital she tells them to hurry to a car crash by the town line. A second call later she's made sure Mal, Lily, and Mulan all came right away. If she knew that Neal would well be leading chaos to their door she would have rang them in sooner.
"Boss!"
"Mulan great I know your training I know but I just need a hand. You can handle them if they move just make sure they don't go anywhere." She's sprinting off to meet with the crash team and ambulance. "What's the damage."
"We cant get the door open and we were told their might have been a gunshot wound."
"Yeah the suspects are over the line."
"Anyone else shot" the male paramedic moves to the town line making Emma stop him.
"Stop if you go over that line you'll forget everything." The incident with the dwarfs everyone knew about but she couldn't add this to the problems at hand. "The is no others injured. I heard a shot. He looked like he slumped before crossing the line and losing control of the car. Is he alive?"
"I cant say for sure till we get him out but if he passed out from the shot perhaps he was relaxed during the crash."
"Mal Lilly can we help speed this up?" Emma asked but the Chief on the scene halted the trio.
"I wouldn't interfere ladies. My team is capable of getting the guy out. Magic has its uses but this is a delicate task not one to rush through."
"Damn it! You're right I'm sorry chief let me know if you need anything my girls can help you in anyway." She cant think about Henry and what she would say to him now but that was all she had in her mind. "Ive gotta deal with the guys responsible for causing this." Looking over at Mulan who was like Mal and Lily unfazed by the effects of leaving town. It was a fortunate gift more and more common but today it was useful. Mulan despite looking like a statue suddenly lunged at the cuffed female. Emma sprinted back to her side to find her yanking a phone from her hands.
"Who is so important you have to call right now."
"My lawyer."
"Well right now you aren't getting that." Emma says taking the phone knowing she is lying. "How I see it is you are Neals girlfriend his ex as I was told yesterday. I don't know who this man is but assuming you are in this situation together lets say he's a side guy. Neal finds out. You were clearly with Neal for something you didn't get and by the gun and racing you wanted to get here unnoticed. Why?" Mulan looks impressed but Emma continues. "You are obviously working for someone or with others and wanted to get them your location. What's so important here?"
"Damn it Greg you shouldn't of shot at him."
"Me! You were the one saying we had to follow him and lost your temper when he spotted you."
"I don't give a shit about that crap why the hell did you want to get into town?" Losing her temper she feels her hands grow hot. Was it her about her son or Regina? what was it they knew but shouldn't know? They weren't suppose to know anything yet as if getting here was part of a mission they failed Emma felt something was off about them. They were up to something. "Help me search them. They cant have anything from out there come in. We'll lock them up and get Neals statement." Patting them down they found needles. In the car now moved to the side of the road was a second gun and several notebooks.
"Sheriff." Mulan was reading the notebook during and after Emma booking them. Mal hadn't called with news yet so Emma went over to her noticing the slight panic in her voice. Looking down at the page she reads and reads until suddenly she claps her weapon on her hip and disappears in smoke. Mulan was less use to this but was not surprised based on what she read and what she knew of Emma and Regina.
