"Hello world," Lady Penelope said brightly from where she was aiming the camera at herself. The location was only faintly recognizable, from the earlier Floor is Lava episode. The large body of Thunderbird Two resting in the cavernous space was what was really telling.
They were in the hanger.
Lady Penelope, dressed in a fabulous sundress of white with a watercolor pattern in a myriad of colors, smiled at the camera, tossing her hair over her shoulder. Something sparkled on her hand, but it was out of sight before anyone could see what it really was. "We're in the hangar today," she explained, turning the camera away from her and into the space.
She was being careful, the viewers could tell, not to show anything overtly classified. But they could see the large ship, resting on its landing struts, and the pod modules lined up. There were work benches along one wall, covered with every tool imaginable. A second story held what looked almost like an office, but with far more technology. There were large doors leading off to other places, each marked with a large number painted in white. The whole place looked industrial and fascinating.
"Virgil darling!" Penny called, the sound echoing somewhat.
There was a bit of a grunt from somewhere near one of the modules and an answering call of, "Over here, honey!" Penny made her way around the modules, down to number two.
"Oh, there you are!" she said happily, the camera focusing on Virgil, who was sliding out from under one of the Pods, pulled out from the module itself to rest in the hangar. He was messy, covered in grease, and wearing a pair of old overalls over a gray t-shirt. (He'd once complained about wearing coveralls, since none of them fit very well and the sleeves always snagged.) His wrists were bare, for once, since he was doing mechanical work. "Hello, dear."
"Hello, Penny," Virgil said with a small smile. He raised an eyebrow, tilting his head to one side. "What can I do for you?"
"The internet has more questions," she replied with a little laugh.
Virgil's nose scrunched up and he gave a sigh. "Penny, darling, you know I'd do just about anything for you, but all these questions are becoming tiresome." He grabbed a rag from the top of the Pod and wiped his hands on it, gazing at the Pod critically before turning back to her.
"These questions are a little more specific," Penny said softly. "They have to deal with your synesthesia."
Virgil hummed softly, eyeing her for a long moment, and then he gave a shrug and motioned for her to follow. He led her across the hangar and up a set of stairs to the large office space. Leading her inside, she panned the camera around, showing a few armchairs, a coffee table, a mini-fridge and a couple desks covered in paperwork. It was both a workspace and a resting-space for those in the hangar.
She set up the camera for it to be able to see both of them and sat herself primly in one of the armchairs. Virgil grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge, offered one to Penny who waved it away, and sat down in the chair next to hers. "So, what are these questions?"
"Well, the first one is pretty simple," Penny said, crossing her ankles elegantly. "What do you call someone with synesthesia?"
"A synesthete," Virgil answered, taking a long swig of his drink.
"Were you born with it?" she asked.
Virgil shrugged a little. "It's always been there, if that's what you mean."
"Yes," Penny nodded. "How long have you known what it was?"
Virgil frowned for a moment, tilting his head in thought. "I knew what I was experiencing wasn't normal when I talked to Scott and John about it when I was six? Or seven? They both said they didn't see the colors like I did. So, Johnny took me to the library with him and we looked it up. Found out about people like me, who had crossed senses. I don't think we ever mentioned it my parents until I told Dad about it in college. We were working on the 'Birds and I kept telling him that the colors were wrong."
Penny gave a nod, although her face showed complete curiosity about that. She'd probably get back around to asking about it later. "What type of synesthesia do you have?"
"Chromesthesia," Virgil said. "Associating sounds with colors."
"Is that the only type you have?" Penny asked, glancing at her phone, which held all her notes and questions. "Sometimes synesthetes have more than one."
"I suppose I have a bit of grapheme-color synesthesia too," Virgil said thoughtfully. "Where written words and numbers are associated with a certain color, but it's nowhere near as strong as the sounds."
Penny hummed softly. "Is it every sound that has a color?"
Virgil shook his head. "No. But I can't tell you what the difference is between what does and doesn't," he answered. "For instance, your voice has a color, but your tapping foot doesn't. But someone dropping a book or tool usually does." She hadn't even noticed that she was tapping her foot and she stilled it.
"What color is my voice?" she asked, smiling softly.
He grinned at her, rolling his eyes. "Pink." He gave a little laugh. "To be fair, the colors are sometimes hard to describe."
Penny nodded, brushing her hair back and giving him a thoughtful look. "Alan mentioned that you could tell he was sick before he even knew, because his colors were wrong."
Virgil nodded. "Yeah. Humans make a lot of sounds, even when they don't know they're doing it. Alan's generally red, but the colors were going…sour? I don't know how to explain it."
"And the 'Birds?" Penny asked. "I'm guessing they have their own colors?"
"Hmm." Virgil sat back, staring out the window at his big green ship. "Yeah. Their engines are all different sizes, of course, and rated for different things, so they make different sounds. I was adamant that the birds be specific colors, because it makes it a little hard to focus when colors don't line up in my head. Scott and John backed me on it to the point that Dad started asking questions." He shrugged a little. "It doesn't really help that I don't think in terms of colors so much as I do music. Sometimes it gets hard to explain things."
Penny's eyebrows lowered in confusion. She'd known, of course, that Virgil thought in music terms—Scott had even mentioned it when first confirming he had synesthesia. But she didn't know what that meant. "Can you explain that?"
Virgil shrugged. "Sure. So…when I think about people, specifically, I associate them with music. You, for example, are andante. Steady, unwavering, stately. A walking pace, even in the most dire of circumstances." He made a little motion with his hand. "Whereas Alan is vivace. Fast, lively, always moving."
"So, everyone has a term?" Penny asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Once I get to know them well enough, sure," Virgil replied.
"Do they always have to do with tempo?" She continued, setting her phone face down. Virgil, it seemed, was a lot more complicated than anyone had ever really understood. She'd known that getting him to talk about his colors would be interesting; she hadn't expected the music.
"No," Virgil said with a smile. "You're andante. Alan's vivace. Gordon's allegro. But Scott is capriccio. And John is berceuse. Kayo's forte."
"Kayo's not loud," Penny pointed out, raising an eyebrow.
"Not vocally," Virgil said with a shrug. He gave a self-conscious smile. "She's all greenish yellow and just loud in personality."
"So, the colors and the music terms? They line up?" Penny asked. And now these were her own questions, because this was fascinating.
Virgil was looking a little…well, not frustrated. But almost like he didn't quite know how to explain things. "Yes and no? The colors are in waves? They follow the terms. I don't know how to explain this." He was chewing on his lip at this point, his brow furrowed as he tried to find the words.
"Okay," Penny said calmly, seeing just how twitchy Virgil was beginning to get. She soothed him with a gentle hand on his forearm, not even bothered by the grease. "Last question. Are the colors of your brothers their favorite colors because that's what you told them they are, or is that just a coincidence?" Because the fact that each 'Bird was the pilot's favorite color, and those colors just happened to coincide with what they'd said were their favorites was amazing.
Virgil shrugged. "You'd have to ask them. I just said what colors the 'Birds were. And what colors my brothers are. The fact that everything lines up just makes me happy, but I'm not sure how they chose their favorite colors." He gave a huff, fiddling with the now empty water bottle. "Are we done?"
"We're done," Penny said, sitting back.
"I have a question for you," Virgil said, a mischievous smile forming on his face. Penny raised an eyebrow and he grinned full on. "When's the wedding?"
"Virgil!" Penny gasped, sitting up straight.
He laughed, reaching out and patting her hand, which showed a pretty diamond ring on a very specific finger. "Honey, everyone can see the ring."
"We are on camera! This is going on YouTube," Penny said firmly, her lips pursed. Although, to be honest, she looked amused more than anything.
"If you thought that you and Gordon were hiding anything from the world, then you're more insane than I thought you were," Virgil grinned.
"I am not insane," Penny huffed, sitting back and crossing her arms.
"You agreed to marry the Squid," Virgil pointed out, also sitting back and crossing his legs. "That's all on you." He tilted his head. "Have you decided on a date?"
Penny gave him an arched look. "Well, we would have gone for a double wedding, but Scott and Kayo just had to elope, now, didn't they?" Her tone was just short of prissy. She was much too refined to ever be deemed as 'prissy', however.
Virgil whistled, giving a bit of a wince. "Ohh. Throwing those two under the bus now, are you?" he asked.
"Have to keep some of the attention off us," Penny replied primly. "What about you and your love?"
Virgil shook his head, giving her a warning look. "Unlike the rest of you," he said softly. "Me and my love know how to be discreet on camera." She rolled her eyes but gave him a conceding nod. "Sorry for outing you officially," Virgil said, although he didn't sound too apologetic.
"Gordon asked you to, didn't he?" Penelope asked, giving a small smile.
Virgil shrugged, smiling. "Yeah. He said he wasn't sure how to come out with it. So, I said I'd take care of it. To be fair, though, Scott and Kayo probably would have kept their marriage a secret for forever if you hadn't said anything."
"Shame," Penny said, sounding slightly regretful. "I know he's supposed to be up for Most Eligible Bachelor again this year. It would have been a rather funny inside joke."
Virgil gave a warm laugh, running a hand through his hair. "With him out of the running, who's up next?"
"I would say you, darling, but you've made it clear that you're in a committed relationship," Penny pointed out.
"So did Scott, but he still won Most Eligible Bachelor last year," Virgil countered. He grimaced a little. "Not that I want the dubious honor of that title."
"Let's see. With Gordon firmly out of the running, that leaves John. Alan's still too young," Penny said thoughtfully.
"What, there's no other eligible bachelors out there aside from Tracys?" Virgil deadpanned, raising an eyebrow.
"None at the same level, dear," Penny replied, waving a hand. "John will likely just roll his eyes and ignore it. You know how he is."
"Yeah," Virgil said, looking rather fond. "I do." He twitched suddenly, tilting his head as though listening to something, his eyes narrowing. On camera, the viewers could just barely make out the murmur of a voice coming over a com unit. Penny, of course, knew that the com was in the collar of Virgil's shirt; almost all of the boys' clothes had tech imbedded in them, t-shirt or not. "FAB." He got to his feet, gazing at Penny. "Skyscraper on fire in Berlin," he explained. "We'll have to continue this conversation later."
He left the office then, at a steady jog. Penny stood, brushing off her dress and grabbing the camera. In the few moments it took her to get to the window, Virgil could be seen racing across the hangar to Thunderbird Two, somehow already dressed in his signature uniform. She knew, of course, that he hadn't used his usual shoot to get down to his bird only because he was already in the hangar.
"Well, there you have it, world," she said softly as the Pod Modules started shifting. She turned the camera back on herself, letting the act of preparing Thunderbird Two remain classified. "You got far more information than even I was anticipating. Have fun with that. Goodbye."
And the camera went black.

Congrats! Also, Virgil, I understand your frustration at not being able to explain. I have the same problem. How on Earth do you explain that you can taste shapes?

One Marriage and an Engagement in the Tracy Family!
By Todd Claridge
In an unprecedented event, the Tracy family has revealed both a marriage and an engagement over their increasingly popular YouTube channel!
Scott Carpenter Tracy has been revealed to have gotten married to the mysterious Kayo, who lives with them on Tracy Island. Kayo Kyrano, who's real name has never been revealed to the public, has lived on Tracy island since she was a child. In previous videos it has been stated that she is like a sister to most of the brothers. Scott has merely made it so that she legally is. No details were posted in regard to their wedding, other than Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward stating that they had eloped.
Speaking of Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward, it has been revealed that she and Gordon Cooper Tracy, the fourth in the lineup of Tracy sons, have gotten engaged. There is, as of yet, no planned date for the actual event. With any luck, the duo won't decide to follow in big-brother's footsteps and elope. The world is looking on in anticipation of the wedding of the decade!
Scott Tracy, as well as his younger brother Gordon, are now no longer in the running for Most Eligible Bachelor, and Virgil Tracy was quick to point out that he is taken as well. John Tracy is next in the running, but it has been made clear that he isn't interested in pursuing anyone. Alan Tracy is still yet too young to be considered, as he turns seventeen in a mere two months.
More details concerning the lives of the Tracy family may or may not be forthcoming. They, while being rather open for their YouTube audience, are still rather secretive when it comes to personal information. In any case, we are all looking forward to whatever they end up revealing next!
