Hey everyone! I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sorry for the long wait! I've been so focused with my other story plus other things that I kept leaving this story off to the side. But, I am not done with this yet and do intend to keep this story going.
This chapter took me a while because I kept changing my mind on what to do with it lol. Finally figured it out and am happy with how it turned out. No battle scene in this one I'm afraid but there will be one in the next. Anyway, I hope you like this chapter.
Transformers Animated: Different Angle
Chapter 28: The Headmaster (Part 1)
Disclaimer: I don't own Transformers Animated
(Jacy's POV)
(Autobot Base)
I groan as I tiredly rub my optics, upset that I wasn't able to sleep much last night. It's been two days since Kylie and I met Powell, Masterson and the Dinobots. Since then, everything's been quiet.
And its driving me crazy!
Forcing myself up, I make my way into the main hangar as I let out a yawn. I look over at Ratchet's work table to see Kylie mixing a can of oil with Sari adding something to it. I raise my optical ridge when I notice the empty sugar packets and cream cartons beside them. What the heck? I think as I walk over.
"Oh hey, you're up!" Kylie says soon as she sees me, "how'd you sleep?"
"Terrible," I say. I look at the oil. "What's going on here?"
"She's trying to find a way to make oil taste good," Sari says.
"Yep!" Kylie says, "we got some sugar in here, some cinnamon, and three or four cartons of cream."
I give her a look. "I said its like coffee. That doesn't mean it is."
"Hey, doesn't hurt to try," she says. She holds it up to me," want some?"
"Oh no," I say, "you made it, you try it first."
She shrugs. "Fine by me." Bringing the can to her lips, she drinks half of it down before pausing. "Hmm, not bad," she says. Just then she makes a face and starts gagging before rushing over to a large barrel. Sari and I both look away as she purges out the sweetened oil.
After a moment, I look back at her. "You okay?"
Her head still in the barrel, she groans. "Yeeaah."
"Maybe it needs more sugar," Sari suggests.
"I don't think its lack of sugar," I say, "we are Cybertronians now, meaning our bodies will most likely reject human food, including sugar and cream."
Kylie groans again as she walks back over to us. "I'm not giving up," she says, "as long as I'm spending my time here in this universe, I'm going to find a way to drink oil and enjoy it!"
"Don't you think we have bigger problems to worry about?" I ask her.
"You're right," she says, "what the heck am I going to use if I can't use sugar and cream?"
"Will you forget about the oil!" I say with a frown, "I'm talking about the Headmaster."
"Oh yeah," she says, "I forgot about that."
"I still can't believe the mayor and Fanzone agreed to let the Headmaster roam around Detroit," Sari says with a frown, "and after everything the bots did for this city. It's like none of it matters anymore."
"Yeah," Kylie agrees, "I mean, so what if they caused a lot of property damage from all those fights and people are now scared to go outside. It's the thought that matters, right?"
I let out a frustrated vent as I grab myself some oil.
"Hey, don't stress out over it so much," Kylie tells me.
"I'm not stressed," I say while opening my can.
"Oh come on, Jacy," Kylie says, "I've known you since Grade 9. I know when something's bothering you."
"It's kinda hard not to notice actually," Sari adds.
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"Well let's see," Kylie says, "when they first told us about the Headmaster, you strangled your breakfast. And then yesterday, when the subject of the Headmaster came up, you twisted the beam you were holding into a pretzel. And then there was-"
"Okay, I get it!" I say, "yes its been on my mind, but I'm not going to let it bother me. Not one bit... No matter how bad the situation is."
"Jacy," Sari says.
"Yeah?"
"You're losing your breakfast."
I look down to see I'm gripping the can too tightly, making the oil spill out from the top and all over my servo. Venting, I set it down and go to grab a rag just as Optimus and Ratchet walk into the room.
"Good morning," Optimus greets as they walk over.
"Morning," we all reply.
"What the slag is all this crud?!" Ratchet angrily asks as he looks at the many sugar/cinnamon packets and cream cartons dripping on his table.
"Ingredients for what should have been the perfect cup of oil," Kylie says.
Ratchet scans them before his frown deepens. "Have you blown a gasket?! You can't consume any of this!"
"Yeah, she found out the hard way," Sari says before pointing, "you may not want to use that barrel."
Ratchet lets out a loud groan as he shakes his head. "Well, sorry if our oil isn't good enough for you, but its all we got so deal with it!"
Kylie frowns at him. "Hey, give me a break!" she says, "I'm still trying to get use to the stuff. You forget I used to be human and eat human food. Pizza, lattes, chicken wings, french fries..."
"Great, now I'm getting hungry," Sari says as her stomach rumbles.
Hearing a vehicle approaching fast from outside, we look at the entrance to see Bumblebee racing in with an old box tv strapped to his roof.
"Hey!" he says excitedly soon as he stops, "check out what I just scored! Some human was going to throw it away."
We all look at the broken tv. The screen is cracked, the knob is hanging by a wire, and the bent antennae just falls right off in front of us.
"Gee, I wonder why," Ratchet says sarcastically.
(Time skip)
All of us now in the hangar, we watch as Sumdac repairs the tv. After much tweaking and tinkering, he soon gets it working. Bumblebee immediately tries looking for a channel, but with no luck so far due to lack of cable.
"Come on, come on," he says as he keeps flipping through the snowy channels. At last he lands on one showing the news. "Yes!" he cheers, "I don't know about all of you, but it is so good to have television again."
"Oh yes," Ratchet says with a frown, "I enjoy having to bend over to watch a tiny screen with a crack in it."
I have to agree with his sarcasm since all of us are kneeling down real close to see what's on the small tv. We all watch as the news reporter speaks in front of City Hall.
"With the recent battles between the autobots and decepticons, new bots arriving, and their war showing no sign of ceasing, many are wondering, is Detroit nothing more than a warzone now? Is there any hope for this city? According to Porter C Powell, there is." Footage of the Headmaster then pops up, showing Masterson demonstrating it for the camera. "The Headmaster Unit, invented and piloted by Henry Masterson, is said to be the new and improved way to fight back the decepticons. As seen in the demonstration, this machine can remove a bots head, and take control of said bots body." The camera then cuts back to the reporter. "While it is indeed impressive, will it be enough to protect our city? Lets find out. Here with me now at City Hall is Henry Masterson's employer, Porter C Powell." The camera then zooms out, revealing Powell standing there with a smug look on his face. "Mr. Powell, can you please tell us a bit more about Project Headmaster?"
"Of course, Lester," Powell says, "what we have here is Detroit's new hope. A masterpiece of engineering. Project Headmaster is what I believe to be our salvation to protect us humans from the decepticons. Something the autobots seem to have trouble doing."
"Why I oughta-" Bulkhead angrily says.
"Shhh!" Prowl shushes him.
"And is it true that you were fired from Sumdac Systems because of Project Headmaster?" the reporter asks.
Powell puts on a sad face and sadly shakes his head. "I tried reasoning with dear Professor Sumdac, but he refused. Sadly, his pacifistic beliefs keep him from the truth. Humanity needs to defend itself. And we can't exactly do that with trash bots or F.A.R.T.S. now can we?"
Kylie lets out a snort. "Did he just say farts?"
"Shhh!" I shush her.
"My only wish is to do what I can to help our beloved city," Powell continues, "with or without the support of Sumdac Systems."
Oh heck no! He's making Sumdac look like the bad guy! Sure enough, I see the frown on Sumdac's face as he keeps watching the tv.
"Well I must say, The Headmaster Unit is quite the work of art," Lester says, "but do you truly believe it will be enough to end the dececpticon threat?"
"Though the Headmaster has only ever been used on warbots given to us by our suppliers, I believe that the Headmaster is capable of stopping these monsters and putting an end to their tyranny."
"One last thing, Mr. Powell. If I heard correctly, you've also been talking to the mayor about a possible Cybertronian ban?"
"WHAT?!" we all exclaim.
"Shhh!" Kylie shushes.
We all give her a look.
"Oh we're not doing that anymore?" she asks sheepishly, "my bad."
"Why yes," Powell says with a smile, "I mean, what's the point of autobots if they cant seem to control all this decepticon activity? If you ask me, I say we're better off without them. In fact, they won't be needed at all. Because starting today, the Headmaster will begin hunting down the decepticons and making sure they'll never bother us again."
"I see. Well thank you for your time, Mr. Powell." The camera then moves away from Powell and focuses only on the reporter. "And there you have it. Two brave men willing to do their part in protecting our city. Will they succeed? Will the autobots be forced to leave Detroit? Coming to you from City Hall, this is Lester Black signing out."
"What a load of slag!" Ratchet angrily says soon as the tv turns off.
"Great," Bumblebee says with a frown, "first they go off on how much better that thing is, and now Powell's trying to get us kicked out?!"
"But you guys can't go!" Sari says, frowning herself.
"Oh come on," Bulkhead says, "there's no way they'll kick us out... right?"
"But the cons wouldn't be allowed in the city either," Kylie says, "isn't that a good thing?"
"Not if they refuse to listen," Prowl says, "which would only make things worse."
"Forget about that!" I say, looking at everyone, "didn't you hear? Powell said the Headmaster is going to start hunting down the cons. We have to stop Masterson before he starts trouble."
"Agreed," Optimus says as he stands up, "we'll scout around the city in groups. Ratchet and I, Prowl and Bulkhead, and Bumblebee and Kylie. Jacy, we'll need eyes in the sky."
"Got it!" I say as the rest of us stand up.
"What about us?" Sari asks.
"You stay here with your dad," Optimus says.
Sari's smile drops. "Aaw! But I wanna help!"
"If we run into trouble, we can't risk putting your life in danger," he says, "just stay here."
Sari frowns as she sits back down and folds her arms.
Optimus looks at the group. "Autobots, transform and roll out!"
Everyone transforms and drives off out the door. Still in bot mode, I rush out the door before activating my thrusters and taking off into the sky. Soon as I'm high enough, I look at the city down below and release a vent. Still haven't really gotten used to the whole heights thing, but getting there. Hey, I still haven't tried flying in my jet mode yet. Well, might as well try.
I keep flying as I transform... only to transform into truck mode.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" I scream as I plummet towards the ground. Transforming again, I finally change into jet mode and pull up just in time. I release a series of vents as I get myself back up to where I was. "Okay, really need to get the hang of that," I say to myself.
"Jacy, you okay?!" Optimus asks me through my commlink. So glad the bots finally taught us how to use them.
"I'm okay," I say, "just haven't used my jet mode before. I think I got it."
"Alright, be careful," he says, "contact us as soon as you find something."
"Roger," I say.
There's a pause. "Who's Roger?" he asks.
"It's radio talk for 'message received," I say.
"Oh," he says, "well then, Roger."
Soon after he hangs up, I bring my focus back down. I pick up more speed as I get more comfortable flying in jet mode. Heck, it's even easier than flying in bot mode.
"Okay," I say as I search, "have to find the Headmaster before he finds the cons. Shouldn't be too hard."
(Two hours later)
"How hard is it to find a flying robot head?!" I exclaim in frustration. Venting, I transform into bot mode and frown. Great. This is turning out harder than I thought. Is he even flying around now? What if he already found the cons? What if it's too late?
"Jacy, you there?" Kylie asks through my commlink.
Snapping out of my thoughts, I immediately answer. "You okay?" I ask, "did you find anything?"
"Hey, it works!" Kylie says happily, "aren't these commlink thingies cool?! They're like phones installed into your ears. Phone ears! Took me a while to find your channel. For some reason I kept calling this guy named Sparkplug and he really wasn't happy with-"
"Kylie, why are you calling?" I interrupt.
"Oh sorry!" she says, "just wanted to check up on you. How's the weather up there?"
"It's fine, but you and Bumblebee need to focus on finding the Headmaster," I tell her.
"We are," she says, "don't worry so much. You've been flying around up there for hours now. Take a break."
"I'm not worrying," I say, "and if I take a break, I might miss Masterson. And if I miss him, he'll find the cons, and the next thing we know, total disaster!" Realizing I'm ranting, I clear my throa- er, voice box. "I mean, I'm not worried."
"... Uh huh," she says before letting out a vent. "Jacy, why won't you admit it? For the past two days you've been stressing out and I'm starting to worry about you. Come on, why won't you admit it?"
I vent. "Even if I do admit it, what would it solve? Airstrike is still out there planning who knows what, and I'm having a hard time trying to find a flying magenta robot head looking for a fight. Not to mention, there's now talk of a cybertronian ban which will only lead to more problems. I have no idea what to do."
"Sorry to interrupt, but you two do realize you're talking on the open channel, right?" Prowl's voice speaks up.
My optics go wide soon as I heard him. Feeling embarrassed, I can't help but groan as I face palm myself.
"Uuuuuuh," Kylie says sheepishly, "still no sign of the Headmaster guys, hehe. Bumblebee why didn't you say anything?!"
"Oh uh, I didn't notice," he says, but his "innocent" whistling proves otherwise.
"You did so you-" she turns off her commlink before she can even finish her sentence.
There's an awkward silence before Optimus asks, "everything okay, Jacy?"
"I'm fine," I say, still feeling embarrassed, "actually, can we just pretend you didn't hear any of that?"
"Uh, yeah sure," he says, sounding a bit concerned.
I let out a vent as I go to turn off my commlink, only to look down and catch sight of something disappearing around a building.
"Hey, I think I see something," I say, "I'm going down to take a look."
I don't wait for a response as I turn off my commlink and descend down towards the street. Turning off my thrusters, I make a somewhat perfect landing on my pedes. "Huh," I say, "actually made a decent landing for a change." Just then a laser beam shoots out close to my helm. "AH!" I yelp as I leap out of the way. Turning around, I see the Headmaster Unit hovering out from the shadows. "What the heck, I'm one of the good guys!" I exclaim angrily.
"Oops," Masterson says mockingly from inside the unit, "really hard to tell."
Still frowning, I let out a vent. "Masterson, you gotta call off the hunt," I tell him, "you're only going to get yourself killed."
He laughs. "Ooh, I'm shaking!" he says, "listen lady, those dweebs may have been too much for a noob like you, but I'm not backing down like some wuss. Sooo, no."
"Have you even seen a decepticon up close?" I ask him, "even if you do manage to steal one of their bodies, what makes you think you can take on the rest of them?"
"You've seen what the Headmaster Unit can do, right?" he asks, "this baby is armed to the teeth and is totally awesome for sneak attacks."
"You mean like twenty seconds ago when you missed my head?" I ask.
"Shut up!" he says as the Headmaster Unit frowns. How can it even do that?
"Ugh, this isn't some video game, this is real!" I tell him, "the decepticons are dangerous, especially Megatron! What do you think will happen if you threaten them?! You attack them, and they will hit back even harder! You would be endangering not just your own life but many other human lives!"
"Whoa, chill!" he says, bringing the Headmaster Unit closer so we're now face to face, "why don't you just admit it? You autobums are jealous! Everyone hates you, and they don't need you. And I'm going to show them how much better I am than all of you. Even Professor Sumdac."
"Because he fired you and Powell, right?" I ask, "I get it, you're mad at him. But you can't do this."
"Uh, yeah I can," he says, "and it's going to be wicked sweet! Now if you'll excuse me, I got lamers to slay. But first, I have to take care of one little thing."
Just then he shoots something at me, causing electricity to course through my body. Letting out a scream, I fall to the ground and groan. I feel myself losing consciousness as I look up at the flying head looking back down at me.
"Nothing personal," Masterson says mockingly, "just can't have you interfering. Later noob!"
The last thing I see is the Headmaster flying off before everything goes black.
(Third POV)
Kylie and Bumblebee keep driving as they head towards the lake. Still mad at the yellow car, the blue Volkswagen remains silent.
"Oh come on, you still mad at me?" Bumblebee asks.
"Humph!" she huffs.
"I said I was sorry! What's the big deal?"
"I was having a personal conversation with my friend, that's what!" she says, "you could have said something."
"Alright, alright, I get it," he says, "though I gotta ask. Is she okay?"
Kylie vents. "She's been stressing out about Airstrike and the Headmaster for the last two days and she won't admit it."
"Why?"
"I don't know," she says, "normally she tells me everything."
They keep driving before coming to a stop near the piers. Transforming into their bot modes, they look around, still seeing no sign of the Headmaster.
"Where is this guy?" Bumblebee asks with a frown, "we've looked everywhere."
"We haven't looked here yet," Kylie says as she walks over towards the piers.
"The only thing I'm seeing here is water, boats, birds, more water, and..." Just then he stops when he sees something disappearing from around a building. Curious, he rushes off, leaving an oblivious Kylie behind as she keeps looking in the opposite direction.
"Hey, lets try looking over there," the blue femme says as she points, "he could be hiding out in..." Turning around, Kylie stops mid sentence soon as she sees the yellow bot no longer in sight. "Bumblebee?" she asks as she looks around, "Bumblebee?!" Venting, she walks off and starts looking for the yellow bot.
Bumblebee continues running as he makes another turn around a building. Seeing a shadow turning into an alley, the yellow bot runs over and blocks the entrance.
"Alright, I got ya!" he says with a frown, "come on out!"
He watches as the figure moves out of the shadows... revealing to be nothing more than a trash bot. Seeing it's a false alarm, the yellow bot's frown drops.
"Oh," he says, "uh, never mind."
"Where did he go?" Kylie asks herself as she keeps looking. Walking towards a building, she hears a sound coming from around the corner. Thinking it's her partner, she frowns as she marches over. "What the heck, Bumblebee!" she says angrily as she goes around the corner, "we're suppose to be par..." She doesn't finish her sentence as she immediately freezes. Looking up, her optics fearfully widen when she sees a pair of red optics looking back down at her.
"Well, well," Starscream says as he maliciously grins at the small femme, "look who it is."
Uh oh! Me and my cliffhangers lol. And that was chapter 28! I hope you liked it. Hopefully it won't take me so long to update again. We'll see what happens. Until next time! God bless!
