She doesn't remember falling asleep, the bright morning light the only indication that she even closed her eyes at all.
"Would you like some breakfast?" Mary asks, placing a tray down on her lap. "I know you're not hungry but try to get as many bites as you can."
Clarion takes three bites out of a muffin. "I need to see him." She said, pushing a tray away.
"You'll see him later at noon." Mary coos as she takes the tray away.
Clarion rests her head against the headboard. "I never meant for this to happen." She whimpered, pulling her knees towards herself. "The ice just melted so fast, I didn't know."
"We know." Mary exhales. "Something went wrong, you can't change anything now." She carefully pat's Clarion's tender eyes with a wet cloth.
"He's going to hate me." She whines.
"I didn't know him that well but with how much you talk about him, I'm sure he loves you so much that he could never hate you."

The afternoon was duller than usual. The sky didn't seem as blue as it usually did, a few slightly grey clouds hung over Pixie Hollow like a blanket you could barely see the sun. It was not scheduled to rain for Pixie Hollow usually followed a strict rain schedule during night times to avoid any fairy's wings from getting wet. However it has been said that a queen's emotions could bring about a change in the weather if left uncontrolled.
"It's dark today." Mary remarks. They were already at the border waiting for the winter fairies, the usually bright spring was muted by the grey clouds looming over them.
A few footsteps were heard coming from winter and they turn just in time to see the three winter fairies emerge from the woods. He didn't fly over like he usually did.
She silently flies up to meet him at the border. A look at the jagged edge of his right wing made her hands freeze before they could wrap around him. Milori reaches to pull her towards him although her hands could not wrap around his back. "I'm sorry." She sobs. "It's my fault I'm so sorry."
"It's not your fault." Milori tries to assure, holding her tightly against him.
"It is. I suggested it in the first place. It's my fault, if I had never asked-"
"Then I would have." He interrupts. "I want to be together with you ask much as you do. I've wanted to ask you for the longest time. Even before you did."
Clarion buries her face in his neck. "Did it hurt?" She asks, not quite able to meet his eyes. "Did it hurt when it broke?"
"No." Milori answers. "I didn't feel a thing."
She sighs shakily, withdrawing herself from the warmth of his embrace but continues to hold onto his arms. "I think-" Her voice gets stuck in her throat. "I think we have to stop this." She looks into his eyes, her voice breaks.
"What do you mean?" His brows furrowed and the grip on her waist tightens.
"We can't be together anymore." said Clarion as tears cascaded down her cheeks.
"You can't just end this, Ree, I love you." Milori frantically tries to change her mind.
"And I love you too." She starts. "But this is dangerous. Think about our fairies. What if something like this happened to them. What if it were your friends. I'm the queen, I'm supposed to protect my fairies but I failed. Milori if this happens again I wouldn't know how to deal with myself. I'm sorry." She cried.
He didn't want it to end, he wasn't done loving her. But alas she was queen, and her word was law. "I'm never going to see you again am I?" He asks softly and tears threatened to fall over the edge of his eyes.
Clarion shakes her head faintly. "I'm sorry. I can't let this happen again." She turns to walk down the border, joining Mary by her side and leaving him alone at the border. He swears he could feel his heart break. This was the end.
Still he kept his eyes on her retreating figure. He was never going to see the large sparkling wings that sat proudly on her back, was never going to see the smile he longed to see, was never going to see her again.
She was almost out of sight when she pauses. And out of a sudden she turns, running back to the spot they once spent all their nights at and before her knew it she was in his arms, her arms wrapped tightly around him. Milori closes his eyes and rubs her back as she sobs into his chest. "I'm sorry." She repeated like a mantra. He knew she was. He was sorry it had to end this way.
"I love you, don't forget." He told her, making sure they held eye contact. Milori wipes a tear from her cheek with his thumb as she gazes up at him. A sad smile smooths over her face before her grip on him loosens and she flies back home. It's only when she leaves that Milori lets the tears that were burning the back of his eyes fall.
