It didn't take that long to save the day; about an hour or so by cap's estimates. Just long enough to make Salazar feel like he'd gained the upper hand. This made him overconfident. It made him drop his guard as more thugs came in to reinforce the howler assaulted compound. Cap's angel ears detected the confident reports his men gave him that the howlers had pulled out.
"Good for your case Captain. Just good." "Told you I'm a man of my word Salazar." "So it would seem after all." It was just them. Cap reached out with his power. He could sense both Bucky and Frank already repositioned. Logan was on the ground nearby.
Then it happened. Frank fired through the window they were near. Bucky fired too at nearly the same time. Frank's slug punched through Salazar's head. Bucky's round blew Salazar's hand off at the wrist. Cap was quick to retrieve the phone detonator from the hand before tossing the hand away; he disarmed the bomb.
The room door burst open and gunmen entered but cap's dual snipers took them down next. Cap used this extra time to get the disabled vest off.
His shield was then back on his arm in a flash. Back on comms "thanks guys. Moving out now." "Copy" the snipers said. Logan "I'm working my way to you now cap." "Copy."
Cap could hear Logan's claws doing their mean thing over the comms as cap closed the gap. At least Salazar was gone. One more baddie down. Always plenty more no doubt. Cap had frankly wanted to kill the bastard himself but Frank had fulfilled his namesake by blowing his head off. Cap could live with that.
All that mattered was that he'd never hurt anyone again. As for being better than Salazar cap didn't care. Moving on.
Logan slashed away at more bad guys while cap approached them from behind. Logan was doing well but the current space was ideal for a range attack. Cap threw his shield into them. The shield smashed into their bodies with magical viciousness. The bones snapped and they cried out. Logan cut them down while the shield got them from behind. Soon they were down.
Cap walked up with his shield already back to him in a flash. Logan scoffed. "That thing's gonna spoil you big time." "Gonna? It did." "No doubt." "Thanks for coming back." Logan scowled. "That's a stupid thing to say." "Okay then. Lead on bub." Logan scowled deeper at cap using his famous word and resumed point.
More baddies came in. Logan and cap still had to fight their way out of this. That's what rough men badass warriors did. And went at it they did.
As they did so the earth started to shake. Logan cut down a few more. "What the hell?" Cap smashed down two and then detected it too. "Thor?" Cap reached out with his power. "No…" it was something else; but something that rivaled Thor's power easily. Good and bad stopped fighting at this sudden change in battle dynamics inside the cartel structure. Then an entire side of the baddie house was punched in. Cap shielded himself from the flying debris with his shield.
The mystery figure of great power entered. He looked at cap's shield and nodded with approval. "Nice shield there cap. Reminds me of the old days." "Hercules." Herc nodded at Logan. "Logan." "Herc. We still gotta fight here to finish." The baddies around them were terrified. Herc cracked his knuckles. "Let's send these maggots to hades my friends." The howlers couldn't disagree with that.
The supers went back at the baddies and took them down in quick order. Cap "what're you doing here Herc?" The Olympian strength demigod shrugged. "Heard about everything going on; and saw one of my tribal legacies living on in that shield. Had to help." That's right. I forgot. The Spartans claimed a lineage going back to Herc.
"Care if I help out?" The god asked. Cap looked at Logan. Logan shrugged and lit up a cigar. "Works for me." Cap called for extraction. Frank and Bucky rendezvoused with them. They too were a little surprised to see Herc join up with them. But cap bashing around baddies with that laconian shield had reached something inside of Herc. And cap wouldn't deny the help from such a proven warrior. Especially when Thor hadn't been in the picture at all.
They maintained a perimeter at the defensible compound until their shield ride came. They boarded and flew back for the states. One less asshole because of them. They could live with that. There were plenty more of them out there though. And nomad the archangel had to be ready for them. And he would be.
