Chapter 29 –
POV: Sarah
Time: 16:25
Location: Cranial Isle
Heh, would you look at that… When I wasn't looking my little brother became strong. Though I wish he was strong enough to fight me in the finals, I'm glad in the direction he's growing though. He faced off one of the BB brigade Commanders without flinching and repaired the Spinal Pillar… though he has previously faced that guy as well though… let's just forget that, that time he was just angry he got confused for me.
But now, Me, Todd, Rex, Rupert, and Pauleen are all finishing the report of what happened to Joe. Apparently at the Pillars of the other islands the other two commanders Lola and Lester were there as well. As we finish
"Y'all have saved Caliosteo Fossil Park from a watery Grave." Joe said with a grin, "…But that ain't even the best news of the day! When the BB varmints fled, they led us right to their base!"
"Then what are we waiting for?!" I unintentionally shout, I don't care if my ankle is hurting or what not!
"Settle down." Joe responded looking upset. "I'd love to chase 'em down and settle this once and for all, but we still got guests runnin' all over the park. I can't afford to send m'self or the staff out until things calm down 'round here."
"Then why can't we go?" I say, motioning to the whole Caliosteo Patrol Team
"…Come again, pard?" Joe looked at all of us surprised. "YOU wanna go to the Bare Bone Brigade Base?" I nod, and with the feeling of the room, so does everyone else. N response though, Joe scratches his head. "You got guts to spare, pardners, but I'm afraid I gotta say no. This here's my fight, ya see? And besides, it's far too dangerous, even for the Patrol Team."
"Joe." The first person to speak up, wasn't me, but Rex. His tone was calm, eyes calculating. "I disagree. I understand that past missions are different comparing to invading a base. But strategically, after having a serious loss like they did at Spinal Pillar, the Moral of the base must be extremely low. Meaning we have better chances to attack now then later. Even if that doesn't convince you look at who you're talking to." Rex was really convincing with what he said. Especially with what he meant at the end: While excluding Todd, the people here are the semi-final combatants, two of which are now in the finals. "Not to mention Hunter has done something similar, but in a more extreme environment."
"…" Joe blinked in surprise as Rex stated his end, but Rex wasn't the only one talking.
"I agree with Rex. The Bare Bones Brigade is on the run and in disarray." Rupert confidently sides with Rex. "It's unlikely that we'll have such a chance again."
"They're right, Digadig!" Even Pauleen was nodding along with this. "Let's go take care of Don Boneyard once and for all, diga!"
"…" Joe hesitates but ends up sighing. "Can't say I'm comfortable with this idea, but I suppose yer right. I'm issuin' one last order to my Caliosteo Patrol Team. Saddle up and ride to the BB Brigade Base, and take out that dastardly Don Boneyard!"
"Yes sir!" We all shout in agreement.
"Alright, the base is on a tiny piece of land called Bonechip Island. I'll talk to the helicopter pilot so y'all can fly there from Cranial Isle." Joe explained. "Then as soon as things tucker down here, I'll make my way over and help y'all out. Just promise to be careful, ya hear? Them BB Varmints won't go down without a fight. Good luck, Patrol Team!"
"Yeah!" We all cheered.
Time: 16:25
Location: Bonechip Island
So… We finally arrive. The helicopter ride was faster than I expected. Rex didn't even get sick either. Though… to think it was this close by… that was rather surprising.
"So, this is the Bare Bones Brigade's Secret lair, eh?" Rupert says as we stair at the outward appearance of the bunker. A metal entrance way, with a giant skull sign on the front.
"Nice Skull, Digadig." Pauleen sarcastically comments, I could hear a bit of disappointment… "Maybe be a bit more obvious next time.
While I'm pretty sure everyone is surprised to see how obvious this base should have been. Rex actually cracks a joke. "Hey, just throw some crossbones below the skull, and I think that this could have been hidden as a pirate base."
"Why the heck is there a VMM over there though, Digadig?!" Pauleen shouts pointing to the orange machine that is more known for warping fighters back to town.
"I'm asking myself the same exact question…" I mutter, looking to rex thinking he has an idea.
"…" Rex shrugs though,
While we were discussing about, how the heck we didn't find this location sooner, two BB Brigade Sentries I guess, came out on patrol spotting us. "Aw, nuts! It's a raid! Them Fighters is here!" "Emergency! Call the guard! Call the commanders! Call Don Boneyard!"
"And… I think that's our cue." Rex says pointing at the grunts.
"Let's try to finish off these fools before Joe and his crew arrive." Rupert said taking command. "Move out!"
Rex, Rupert and Pauleen all rush forward into the base. Just as I was about to chase after them, I hear a groan come from Todd. "Oooooh… Oh, my stomach! Why did I go to that all-you-can-eat chili-dog buffet?"
"…" Really Todd? Now of all times? Are you kidding me?
"Ooooooh… G-go on without me. I just…need to rest for a minute." Todd must have seen my annoyance, and said that.
"Fine, but we are so talking about this later." I Shout to him as I chase after everyone else.
Running inside, I find that Rupert Rex and Pauleen are already fighting battle. Rupert seems to be fighting the punk with the mohawk, Rex was fighting Lola I think her name was, and Pauleen seemed to just be busy handling some of the grunts.
While they handle them, Guess I got a straight shot to Don Boneyard. As I rush past the ensuing battles, entering what I assumed was the final chambers. I arrive in a room with a red carpet on the floor, Purple drapes across the walls, and with his back towards me was a skeletal figure.
"Bwa ha ha ha!" Don Boneyard laughed, "You have done well to make it to my inner sanctum. But playtime is over. Let's see if have the guts to beat me!"
"…" What… he's an actual skeleton? Well…Hunter's said he's fought a ghost before. But really. "Well, I'm more than just bones."
"…" As Don Boneyard turns to face me, he… hesitates? A skull doesn't make any expressions… but he looks confused. "…Wait. Do I know you?"
"Huh?" What the heck? "I know for sure I've never had a conversation with a skeleton till now, so I don't think so."
"…Never mind! I'll have time to bone up on such things later." Bone up? Is that supposed to be a pun of some sort? "Until the Caliosteo Cup is canceled, I will not allow my self to be defeated! Be hold the terrifying Boneysaurs of Don Boneyard!" He shouted throwing out a B-Brachio, B-Ptera, and a B-Rex.
Then I'll show how second rate those B-Rexs are. I'll also use Machai, and… huh… Why does my heart say to use Aeros?... No matter they'll do it. "Like I said before, I'm more than just bones. So is my team, they won't go down without a fight."
With the combatants on the field, it seems that I'm the one to go first. Alright, the low growl from T-Rex Lord, means he's itching for a fight. "Okay, T-rex Lord! Lordly Strike on—"
"GRAAA!" T-Rex Lord roared, striking the B-Brachio. Not what I was planning, but okay… Next Machai's ability of a Link activated attacking the B-Brachio again.
Just one more to finish it. "Alright Machai! Finish it!" Machai leapt biting into the B-Brachio reverting it into a medal. "Now there we go."
"…" Don Boneyard looked at the spectacle of one of his Boneysaurs falling in turn one. No… was he staring at Aeros? "…PTera, Boney Cyclone. The B-Rex, attack the mockery of yourself, with Bare tactics."
"…" The silent screech from that B-Ptera, sending a whirlwind of blades… Followed up by an attack from the B-Rex. Machai and Aeros seemed to be strong. T-Rex Lord seemed to show some wear, but still stubbornly stood.
"GRRRRRR." T-Rex Lord growled loudly at B-Rex. Certainly, he wasn't impressed with its actions.
"Okay, Lordly Strike!" I shout, hopefully he'll aim for the target that I want this time. And he follows through striking the B-Rex, nearly one shoting it. With Machai's link it finishes it.
"…" I'm almost certain I see a sneer come from T-Rex. He's certain, that this battle is already won.
"KrrA!" Just as I was about to Order Machai to attack the B-Ptera, Aeros Roared. Did… did he want to finish it instead?
"…" I looked to Aeros, and understood. He'll give the finishing turn then.
"*A Blonde girl with an Aeros, why is that so familiar…*" Don Boneyard mumbled as the turn switched back over to him… Was he disgruntled about something… something just seemed off. "PTera, Boney Swirl!"
The B-Ptera swirled the air, causing Machai to fall just a quarter health. Though the odds definitely seemed to be on my side. Though what was this pit in my stomach? "Okay, Aeros, your time to shine. Finish this with Aeros Alert!"
"My Boneysaurs were defeated?" Don Boneyard said surprised. "It would take a Fighter of such unbelievable skill to…*only hun—"
"Sarah! Are you alright!" Rex said rushing into the room, interrupting Don Boneyard.
As Don Boneyard saw me and Rex, he looked at us, as if in realization? He started to laugh. "Oh. Oh, ho ho! Yes, I knew I had met you before… You two are Rex and Sarah Lucertola."
What… how'd… no he probably heard it from the competition or one of the commanders, Right?
"…" Rex blinked in confusion.
"Of course. It really is you two, isn't it? I had no idea you were in the Cup." Don Boneyard said surprised… happy? But that quickly changed as he used a much more warning tone. "You must listen to me, you two. The Caliosteo Cup cannot be allowed to continue! Do not trust anything the present Joe Wildwest says. Because he is—"
Again, he was cut off, but this time by shouting from Rupert and Pauleen. "Sarah, Rex! Are you all right?!"
"Joe's here, Digadig!"
"Hmph, seems my time here is up." Don Boneyard said snapping his boney fingers as the room filled with smoke. "We will meet again. Make sure to take care of that Ankle, will you?"
"*Cough, Cough*" Me and Rex coughed as the smoke dissipated, leaving us a bit bewildered… as that happened, Rupert and Pauleen barged in to the same room.
"…Where is Don Boneyard?" Rupert asked, confused as the last of the smoke cleared out.
"Uh… he used a smoke screen and got away." I said… my voice wasn't too confident… but… I did win against him…
"He got away! Aw, Digadig it all!" Pauleen shouted stamping her feet… yeah, even after all that trouble… too.
"I wouldn't worry yer pretty little head 'bout that, now." The one who said that was Joe, Pauleen did shout that he got here. "Thanks to y'all, we captured the three commanders and all their Bare Bones Lackeys. Without them, ol' Don Boneyard can't do much more'n stamp his feet and twiddle his thumbs."
"Right, if he could, he would have gotten involved sooner." Rupert analyzed and spoke.
"Right, now we can hold the final like we always wanted, tomorrow." Joe responded with a cheery grin… it was cheery… why did it feel so ominous though… "I can't wait to see which'a you two emerges as the champ." With that Joe left to take care of left-over business outside.
The cup is soon to be over… but what was Don Boneyard's plans… he wanted to cup to be stopped… Looking at Rex, it certainly seems strange… he's confused as well.
Ah… well, my ankle's killing me… speaking of which, how did Don Boneyard know I hurt it?
