Previous chapter: Bella - BPOV

I smile as Peter successfully evades Char's slap and giggle as he runs out of the house laughing like a hyena with Char on his heels. Jasper shakes his head at their antics and intertwines his fingers with mine as we slowly follow our brother and sister outside. It's high time that we set the plan to destroy the bitch that killed my mother into motion.

Jasper - JPOV

I shake my head as I follow Peter and Char outside. I swear that man will never grow up. I gently squeeze Bella's hand as I feel a surge of determination flow through her, and give her a loving kiss on her forehead as I say: "Okay, darlin'. I'll lead the way. I want you to follow about one hundred yards behind me. Run through the high grass and touch as many trees as you can.

We want those newborns completely high on your scent when they reach us. It will overwhelm them and make them lose focus. That's what we want. An unfocused newborn will make mistakes and is easier to kill. The others will run alongside us, about 100 yards to our left and right. That way, their scents won't interfere with yours. Do you have any questions, pumpkin?"

Bella shakes her head decisively and smirks as she says: "No questions. Everything is crystal clear, Major." I growl softly as I shake my head. God, that woman knows how to turn me on. I turn to look at the rest before she says or does something that makes me decide to throw her down on the ground and have my way with her, not caring who sees it.

Caius takes a step forward and says: "Peter, Char, and Demetri, I want you to take the left flank, while Alec, Jane, and I take the right flank. We run in that formation to the military base. If you smell another vampire nearby, ignore it. No one breaks rank. They will come to us. Is that understood?"

I notice that Peter is staring in the distance as the rest nods affirmatively to Caius's question and say: "Peter? Is there anything we need to know?" He turns to look at Bella and says: "The vamp that tried to attack your father is dead. Word of his failure will reach Victoria soon. It will piss her off big time. She will attack sooner than later."

Bella's voice is barely a whisper as she says: "Is my dad okay?" Peter gives her a loving smile and says: "He's fine, cupcake. You don't have to worry your little head anymore 'bout that."

Bella - BPOV

I give Peter a thankful smile as Jasper kisses the top of my head and says: "We need to move out, pumpkin. The scent trail is imperative to our plan, and it looks like we're running out of time."

I give Jasper a quick smile and nod as I say: "Lead the way, Major." Jasper snickers as he turns around and starts running as the rest falls into formation behind him. I touch every tree we pass meticulously and even reach down to caress the high grass as I run through it. Before I know it, I'm running onto the abandoned military base and straight into the arms of my Jasper. He spins me around before leaning down to kiss me and smirks as he says: "Well, aren't you the good little soldier? I will have to reward you later."

I bite my tongue to stop myself from moaning out loud. I slide my hands across Jasper's chest and up into his air as I lean in and softly purr into his ear: "I can't wait, Major." I giggle as Jasper swallow inaudibly and quickly adjusts his pants as he pulls me close and whispers: "God, I love you so much, Bella." I pull him down for a quick kiss, right before the rest joins us on the tarmac, and say: "I love you too, Jasper."

The next hour passes quickly as we inspect the large open space and huddle together to talk tactics. Jasper pulls me close against him as he discusses our positions on the base with Caius. Peter and Demetri get asked for their opinion, while the rest of us listens carefully to everything that's being said. Everyone stops talking as Caius's cell phone rings and listens as he answers the call with a gruff 'Felix'.

My shoulders tense up as I hear Felix say: "I found them, Master. There are eighteen vampires in total. No one is showing a clear gift on the security footage. But if I were to guess, I would say that at least two are gifted. The redhead keeps them close and separated from the rest. One is a blond male, and the other is a tiny brown-haired girl. She looks like she's around the same age as our Jane. Everything seems quiet for…

Jasper – JPOV

I raise my brow as Felix stops talking for a second. Caius is about to speak up as Felix continues: "Something is happening. The redhead is on the phone, and she's livid. There's no audio feed, so I can't hear what she's saying. Cazzo! * Master, they are moving out. They're coming."

Caius stares into the distance as he says: "Move to our location immediately, Felix. We need you here." He ends the call as he turns to face Peter and says: "Any small thing you think you know, I want to know as well, Captain." Peter nods affirmatively as he says: "Off course, Master, but only because I know that my coven leader agrees with that command."

Caius scowls at Peter's remark as he turns to me and says: "Two potentially gifted vampires, Major. You know what that means. They have to die first. We can only hope that their gifts aren't too powerful. Major, a quick reminder on how-to-battle-newborns can be useful. You have our attention."

I give Caius a curt nod as I tell everyone to line up. I look at the rest of the vampires in front of me and say: "The two most important things to remember are: first, never let them get their arms around you. You wouldn't be able to break free if they do. And second: never go for the obvious kill. They will be expecting that, and you will lose. Char? Let's show them how it's done."

Sparing with Char was always intense. That woman never backs down when she's fighting me, not even when it's just a training session. It takes me a while to pin her down to the ground, and I give her a loving hug as she mutters: "I almost had you this time."

I motion to Peter that he's the next one and move to stand next to Caius as Peter walks up to Bella and says: "Ready to get your ass kicked again, cupcake?" Bella sticks out her tongue, and I smile as she says: "Pride comes before the fall, brother, and stop calling me 'cupcake'."

Peter tries to surprise her by jumping right at her, but Bella evades him easily. I carefully analyze Bella's moves and realize that she's learned a hell of a lot these last few days, and she's not even using her gift yet. The look on Peter's face tells me that he's equally impressed as Bella leaps up into the air, and it takes Peter a second to regain his focus. The next thing he knows is that Bella has him lying flat on the ground with his face in the dirt. I smirk as Peter coughs up some grass while getting up and pat his shoulder as I say: "Never lose focus."

Demetri and Jane are up next, and I'm impressed at their level of fighting skills. Demetri wins, but I'm quite certain that Jane can hold herself in a fight. Felix arrives as Demetri and Jane move back in line, and I pair him up with Alec. Their fighting skills rival those of Demetri and Jane, and it takes Felix some effort to best Alec. Felix grins as he turns to look at Demetri. The smug look on Felix's face is gone the instant Alec kicks his legs from under him and sends him crashing to the ground. I shake my head as I turn to Felix and say: "Never turn your back on your enemy."

A sudden growl from Peter pulls our attention to him, and I rush to Bella's side as he says: "They found the scent trail. Victoria is sending all the newborns in, except for the two Felix mentioned. I don't know why."

Bella - BPOV

I stare in awe as Jasper turns into the Major and starts handing out orders. Everyone quickly moves to their designated spot, and I can't stop the worry from building up inside me. Jasper turns to stare at me and yells: "I need everyone to promise Bella that they'll be careful. I won't have my darlin' worrying about your asses when she needs to be focused."

God, I love that man so much. I smile as everyone makes their promise and mouth a 'thank you' to Jasper before he turns to stare into the direction we came from. I wish that I could be standing next to him, but both he and Caius agreed that I should be standing at the back with Jane and Alec. Jasper and Caius are standing at the front, with Peter and Char on their left and Demetri and Felix on their right. Everyone is now staring in the direction of our house, and I tense as Demetri says: "They're here. I can hear them." I take a deep unneeded breath as everyone drops down into an offensive. Seconds later, the newborns come rushing out of the forest, and the fighting starts. I notice immediately how important Jasper's last-minute training was. Newborns have a very basic fighting pattern, but they are so much faster and stronger than us.

Jasper and Caius successfully kill two of them in the first minute. It's incredible how efficient they both are. Demetri and Felix move throughout the open space together and are on their second kill while Peter and Char finish off their third. I watch as Jasper rushes to his next target. The fight is long, and I can see that everyone is on edge, but it looks like we're gaining the upper hand. Suddenly one of the newborns successfully evades Char and Peter and lunges for me. Jane has him down on the floor in a matter of seconds as she hisses: "That's my mom, you moron. I won't let you harm her."

Alec smiles at his sister proudly as he moves to dismember the newborn while I start a pyre. A glance across the base tells me that Victoria's army is reduced to three members, while the bitch herself is nowhere to be seen. I start a fire to dispose of the newborns, while Jasper and Peter finish off the last newborns on the other side of the landing strip.

A sudden streak of red pulls my attention to the forest edge, and I hiss as I stare at the woman that murdered my mother. Alec and Jane move to my left and right as Victoria glares at me and yells: "Oh, Bella, you think you're so clever hiding behind the Volturi, but not even they can stop me. You killed my James. You murdered my mate, and I won't rest until you're dead too."

Man, this woman is all levels of crazy. I shake my head as I say: "You and what army, Victoria. The newborns you created to kill me are dead, and you will follow soon." Two other vampires join Victoria, and she cackles as she says: "The others were merely a distraction. They did what they were supposed to do, spread you all out thin so that I could easily reach you. Those two kids won't be enough to save you. Riley, Bree, use those wonderful gifts of yours and bring me her head."
