Ziva didn't want to let her newborn daughter out of her sight. though she feared taking her to the grocery store, afraid Katie would catch something. She waited until Tony came home from work. She knew their lives were about to change again when she returned to work and Katie would be starting daycare. But for right now, she wanted to keep her family the way it was. As soon as Tony walked in the door Katie started cooing for her daddy.
"She has missed you today." Ziva said, handing the baby over to Tony.
"You just saw Daddy on his lunch break. Yes you did." Tony said as he bounced Katie.
It was clear that Katie already had her daddy wrapped around her little finger. Tony would do anything for that little girl.
"Do you think you could watch her while I go and pick up a few items at the store?" Ziva asked.
"Why didn't you let me know you needed something?" Tony questioned. "I could have picked them up on my way home."
"I know." Ziva's eyes wandered over to their daughter. "It's just I figured you guys need some time together and I need to get out of the house for a little bit."
"No worries here." Tony smiled
Ziva picked up her keys and wallet and headed out the door, but not before giving a kiss to Tony and Katie. She knew she needed something once she got to the store but forgot what it was.
'I guess this mommy brain stuff is actually real.' Ziva thought.
She texted Tony to find out what else they needed. When he didn't respond back to her text, she called him. Panic rose inside her when he didn't answer her call. She quickly checked out with the items she had in her cart and made her way home. She tried again to call him again in the car but it only went to voicemail. She quickly pulled into the driveway, leaving the groceries in the car as she quickly entered their home. As she walked into the living room she found the reason for Tony not answering his phone. It was laying on the coffee table just out of reach. Tony was laying on the couch with Katie snuggled on his chest. Ziva quietly made her way over to the pair and leaned down to whisper into Tony's ear.
"What happened to Rule number three?"
"It's better to seek forgiveness than ask permission?" Tony mumbled, still half asleep.
"No Tony. That is rule 18. Rule three." Ziva smacked his forehead lightly. "Never be unreachable."
Tony's eyes flew up. His rude awakening also waking up their daughter, who began to fuss.
"I am so sorry Zee. What's wrong? Did something happen?" Tony asked as he set up and tried to soothe Katie.
"No nothing is wrong. I was just calling to find out what else we needed." Ziva took Katie and began to bounce her while rubbing soothing circles on the babies back. "Your Abba broke one of Papa Gibbs rules. Yes he did."
"Very funny Zee. Do you need help bringing in the groceries?" Tony asked.
"For scaring me like that, you get to bring in all the groceries." Ziva smiled as she started off to the nursery to change Katie.
