Ben woke up, the sun came in through the top of the curtains in his room. He wanted to spend a bit longer in his bed but he needed to talk to his Dad. After thinking about the events of the previous night, he decided that he wanted to meet his Mum.
Ben's dad sat at the table reading the newspaper with a cup of coffee next to him.
"Dad, I've been thinking about last night and I would like to meet my Mum," Ben said.
"Are you sure?" Ben's Dad asked.
"Yes, I want to get to know her," Ben said. "Is there a way to contact her?"
"Yes, Megan, gave me her number before she left last night," Ben's dad said as he gave him a post-it note with a number on it. Ben looked at the number, he needed to do this. He took the house phone from the charging pod and typed in the numbers. It rang a few times before someone answered.
"Hello," the person said.
"Mum?" Ben asked.
"Benjamin," Megan replied.
"Is there a chance that we could meet today? I want to get to know you better, Dad told me his side of the story," Ben said.
"Of course. How about we meet in an hour outside Aldgate Tube station, I'm staying in a hotel near there." Megan said.
"Sure. See you then" Ben said.
Ben arrived at the tube station.
"Is it too late to change my mind? What if she doesn't show up" Ben thought to himself. He could feel his heart racing. He felt nervous.
Ben didn't have to wait too long. Megan walked down the street and over to him. When Ben looked at his Mum, he noticed that they shared the same eye and hair colour. Ben had always wondered where he got his hair colour from as his father had a much lighter hair colour.
"I found a nice coffee shop close to here, I thought that we could go there," Megan said.
"Sure, that sounds nice," Ben said.
Ben found himself sat at a small table in one of Londons many coffee shops. In front of him, he had a mango and passion fruit smoothie. His Mum had an americano.
"I'm sure that you have plenty of questions Ben, but I must tell you my side of the story first," His Mum said. "I was in my early twenties when I meet your Dad. I was in my second year at University doing a year abroad. We fell in love and he asked me to marry him. We thought that we would be happy together but everything changed when Linda, one of Carlo's childhood friends came back. Carlo didn't know about the wedding arrangements at the time but once he found out he did try to tell them that he was married. They wouldn't listen so I asked for a divorce. I didn't know it at the time but I was pregnant with you. After you were born, I struggled to keep my job, eventually, they let me go and I couldn't find anything suitable. I knew that I wouldn't be able to look after you and give you a good life so I did the only thing I could, left you in the care of your father."
Ben wanted to say something but he didn't know what to say. He took a sip of his drink.
"Did you know that I have step-siblings?" Ben asked.
"No, I didn't," Megan replied.
"Luka and Flavio," Ben said. "They are older than me tho, Luka is 21 and Flavio is 19. We don't get on well with each other. They can be overprotective at times, especially when Dad goes away."
"Are you happy here?" Megan asked.
"Yes, I have good friends and I go to a nice school," Ben said. "Why?"
"Well, I have just got a new job as a teacher in a school and I've also found a nice house just outside of London. If you want to you can come and stay with me." Megan said.
"Maybe, I need to think about it," Ben said.
"Of course. I know you have a lot to think about" Megan said.
When Ben got home after meeting his Mum, Oona flew out of his pocket.
"You're not thinking about leaving are you?" Oona asked.
"Maybe. Linda doesn't want me around so maybe living with Mum might be a good idea," Ben said. "I know that Dad would let me."
"What about the city? Who would help Wolfette protect the city if you left?" Oona asked. "Would you be willing to give up your Miraculous if you chose to leave?"
"This is my life now, isn't it, well at least until we find and get the Firefly Miraculous back," Ben said.
Oona didn't answer.
Ben saw his Mum two more times before she left London, they promised to stay in contact with each other and Ben said that he would make an effort to go and visit her.
A few minutes away from where Ben lived, a taxi pulled up outside the entrance of a house. The door of the taxi opened and Jayden Westbrook got out.
"Thank you," Jayden said as he handed the taxi driver some money.
