A quick random one-shot idea I had that's a little messy but I like the vibe of it lol

Hope you enjoy it!

Ever since I was a kid my father would tell me stories about mythical creatures that he would swear that he had witnessed for himself.

He made lullabies to me of trolls and goblins and knights in shining armor. He wove me tales of wolves and beasts. Witches and wizards. Of magic and the fae that protected it. He especially spoke though of a man who was dubbed a Trollhunter. One from a long family line of Trollhunters who swore to protect what humans believe was reality as well as the creatures that humans believe were mere myths. He was comparable to me as that of King Arthur. A truly noble man. A witty and compassionate warrior who cared for his people just as much as he did for others.

I adjusted my grip on the sword resting in its scaffold. My helmet making it slightly difficult to survey my surroundings, but I honestly would much rather keep the extra protection than tapping it away into the amulet that had caused it to appear.

Great Deya was I wrong. On all accounts.

"Nothing," I spoke the word softly to myself as I scanned the area once more. "Nothing." I sighed as I came to a sudden halt. "Nothing." I dropped my hand from my sword's handle before tapping the circle upon my chest that hid away my family line's amulet in my armor. The tap causing my helmet to reveal my face to the darkness as it hid into the collar of my chest plate.

Can't I go back to being a normal boy with a normal crush on the popular girl and normal childhood best friend? I didn't ask for my father being a deadbeat in both being a father as well as some kind of mythical guardian.

I placed my hand on my waist as I can to a stop.

Some wild witch chase, though.

I snickered to myself as I looked around the area once more.

I was sent to the forest to search for a witch. One that has been causing issues for the trolls of Troll Market. They had a feeling that it was a youngling. One without a staff because she has been gathering pieces from them that are used in the common practice to create one. So I was told that she would be easy to find. Easy to bring back to Troll Market or at least get her to give me the materials once more. Especially since she snagged some Gum-Gum essence that's a bit more dangerous than anyone else would guess.

If touched by the wrong being, it could corrupt them. Mentally or physically mattering on what specifically comes in contact with it. A witch? Not much of an effect? A human or a squirrel or something? Definitely fucking not, I guess.

I sighed as I brought my hands up to my chest plate's collar, just allowing my hands to curl around the edge of the plate as I scanned the area once more.

Man, I should really start listening to Blinky more. Kanjigar isn't around so often to keep me out of trouble anymore and Draal is doing his own training systems now as well so I need to get my shit together. I'm definitely not built like AAARRRGGHH so I'm gonna have to get into the idea that I need to be more protective of myself and others.

I need to become more of a Trollhunter. I need to take what my father left and bring together the pieces. I need to become a Trollhunter that Troll Market needs and deserves.

Even if it kills me.

I sighed a little at myself as I started making my way north toward where the main bridge in town was.

Guess I should head back then.

I whipped my head toward my right as I heard the sudden ruffle of leaves.

Or maybe not.

I glared toward the noise's general direction as I inched closer toward the edge of the forestry.

"Who goes there!?" I tried my best to be fierce as I grabbed the handle of my sword with my left hand. I waited for a few seconds in the pure silence before hearing another ruffle of leaves with a small curse following afterward. "If you show yourself, I won't harm you. But I will warn you," I pulled my sword out from its scaffold as I stepped closer to the bush I now figured the noises were coming from. "I'm armed." I heard a hiss come from the bush as I watched the small area with attentive eyes. My sword now being held before me with two steady hands as the bush's leaves shifted and shook as a small figure escaped from the naturally occurring hiding place.

"Well, I'm not. If that's alright with you." I swallowed hard as the soft voice spoke to me. The figure stepped out into the moonlight before me only to showcase that it was a slightly shorter young woman that seemed to be around my age. At least by how she was small in stature but close to my height. "I'm not a threat if that is what you're wondering, Trollhunter." Her voice was soft as she dropped her hands to her sides. "You don't need to point your sword at me as such."

"You know what I am," I spoke firmly as she just nodded her head in reply. "Then you are a part of my world as well." I lowered my sword slightly as I started feeling safe within the woman's presence. "May I ask what?"

"I'm a witch."

"The same one stealing from Troll Market?" I tightened my grip on my sword for a moment as she just tilted her head at me in reply.

"You believe a witch like me would be dumb enough to go to Troll Market? I'm a youngling. They would smell me from miles away." I gave her a confused look before narrowing my eyes at her.

"How can I trust you?"

"Could you just take my word as it?" She has an amused tone in her voice as I just narrowed my eyes at her for a moment. "Should have known." Her hands raised up slowly before gripping the sides of her hood. "But we are the same though."

"How come?" With a flick of her wrist, she flung her hood off of her head as I just stood as if I was gifted with a cold gleam from Medusa herself.

Especially since she was someone I never thought would be within my world.

"Claire?" The Latina gave me a genuine smile as she placed her right hand over her heart.

"At your pleasure." She gave a small bow as she spoke. "You're Jim, right? We have history together." She giggled at herself for a moment as she put her hands into her cloak's pockets. "Didn't take you as a Trollhunter kind." She gave me a smirk as I just swallowed hard in reply.

"I-I-." I swallowed hard as I dropped my sword down a little.

What god caused this display of fuckery with me? Who decided it was funny to make the girl I'm crushing on a fucking witch? Witches are enemies to trolls, for the most part. Especially right now.

"Does the troll have your tongue?" Her smirk only deepened as she pulled her hands from the pockets of her cloak so she could cross her arms across her chest.

"I-." I swallowed hard once more as I let out a soft cough to clear my throat. "Maybe just a little." Claire smiled at this as she shook her head a little at my antics.

"You're a special one, aren't you?" Her smile widened as she dropped her hand to her sides.

"Maybe? At least that's what Blinky says." I chuckle a little as I scratched the back of my neck.

"Your trainer, I presume?" I shrugged gently as I put my sword away into my scaffold.

"Maybe he is. Maybe he's just a troll I know." I smirked as I wrapped my right hand around the handle of my sword.

"Swore to silence, huh? Well, that's good to know that you Trollhunters have the same conducts."

"You Trollhunters?" I chuckled a little bit as I placed my free hand on my hip. "You speak as if there's a stigma of us? Wouldn't doubt it, honestly. Knowing the Trollhunter I knew." I sighed a little as I looked up toward the sky to check out close we were to dawn. "But I guess I'll have to prove myself another time." I brought my gaze back toward her as a grin brought itself to my lips. "This won't be the last time I see you like this, right?" Claire just smiled as she lifted her hood up over her head.

"Maybe," I could hear the mischievous nature in her voice as she continued. "Our kinds are not the kindest to one another. How will I know you won't just stab me later down the line?"

"You're not causing an issue. I have to need to." I swallowed hard as I tried to keep the words "I don't think I could in the first place" from escaping my mouth.

"I'll try my best to keep it that way then." I could see the slightest showing of a smirk on her face before adjusting her cloak's hood once more. "Don't be a stranger then, Lake." She snapped her fingers, allowing a portal to appear behind her. "I would hate to not see you again." I blushed at her words as I stuttered to give her a reply.

"T-totally. I'll definitely reach out to you more. W-Would hate to not see you too." I heard her giggle once more before backing up into the portal behind her with a wave.

"See you around then, Trollhunter." I waved back like the shy fool I am as she disappeared into the portal.

"See ya." I swallowed hard as I stood there silently despite the fact that my thoughts were going a million miles per hour within that moment.

She's a witch. The one magical being my kind was sworn to protect the other kinds from.

I looked up toward the moon that was high above me with a sigh.

Why does the universe like to fuck with me? Starcross loves never go well.

I brought my attention back toward where Claire had disappeared before me.

Especially when they are one-sided.
