Chapter 29 - Mystic Falls
September 25, 1864
After the proposals the two couples sat down together in the parlor to talk about their upcoming weddings.
"There is something else you should know before anything more is said," Rebekah stated seriously while looking between the two brothers.
"Bekah, nothing you have to say will change my mind about marrying you," Stefan stated taking her hand in his.
"Do you remember when you once asked how many children I wanted shortly after we started courting?" she asked slowly
"Of course, I remember."
"I didn't exactly answer you then and changed the subject if I recall correctly."
"Yes, you did. I just thought that it wasn't a subject you wished to talk about at the time and that's why you changed the subject."
"No, the reason I changed the subject was because I will never be able to give you children and Damon, neither will Katerina. Being a vampire means we have to sacrifice ever having a family of our own. We both wanted you two to understand this before you make a life altering decision," she stated leaving out the small detail that in the future it would be possible for them to have a family.
Both brothers were quite for several harrowing moments before Damon spoke, "And you really think that this tiny detail will cause us to walk away from the two of you?"
"Well,…." both girls started to say.
"Let us make one thing clear shall we. We fell in love with you and want to spend our eternities with you whether we have the ability to have children or not does not matter to us, isn't that right Stefan?"
"I'm in full agreement with Damon on the issue," Stefan said with a small smile.
Rebekah and Katerina were relieved and nearly in tears to hear both brothers say that for they feared that their inability to give them a child would harm their chances at being with their soul mates.
They continued to talk for several hours. Both couples agreed that not telling the Salvatore patriarch about what the girls truly were was a good idea. Neither brother wanted to stir up their fathers wrath nor did they want that said wrath to rain down on their loves and they knew it would if they told him. The brothers had also decided to tell him that they were going with their fiancée's when they left at the end of the following week. However, it was settled that the men would tell their father on their own and not have the women with them at the time in case their father did something rash. Both women asked that if their going to do that then would they at least safeguard themselves and take the blood just in case things didn't go as planned. They agreed and so Elena gave Stefan her blood and then handed a flask that contained her blood to Katerina. Kat added her own to it and then gave it to Damon. They both partook of the substance and then left the plantation to return home.
To say that their father took their immediate departure well would be stretching the truth. No, their father had been drinking heavily before the brothers returned home. So when they told him they were leaving the following week to return to their fiance's home country, he flew into a rage and shot and killed both his sons.
Unbeknownst to any of the Salvatore men three women had followed them back to be sure everything would go well. Kat and Bekah almost gave away their position when the patriarch murdered the brothers. Only a stern look from their leader stopped them from making a sound.
Their father left after that not wanting to be in the house were his two dead sons now lay. Several hours later they both sat up taking in a deep breath and were greeted by their mates and Elena.
"Here, if you want to transition then drink this," both women handed a flask to the men.
"We promised to stay with you for eternity." That said they drank the contents of the cup and then cried out when their new fangs descended.
"Here," Elena said handing them both a ring.
They both looked at her questionably before Kat told them, "It's a daylight ring. If you don't wear it you'll burn in the sunlight." Both men placed the ring on and the girls all sighed in relief.
"I think it best if we left tonight. If we don't too many question's will be asked come morning," Elena said as the men stood then helped the women stand too.
"Yes, that would be best. No need to stir up any unrest or rumors," Rebekah agreed.
So they all rushed back to the plantation and told the rest of the family that they were leaving that very night. Before they left they told everyone what had transpired at the Salvatore home. Everyone agreed and like lighting they were packed and on their way within an hour.
"Bonnie, when we set sail can you send a message to Kol telling him we are on our way back?" Elena asked.
"Of course, Lena."
As soon as the ship pulled away from the harbor, Bonnie sent the message to Kol then changed her appearance back to how it was originally.
Armonía
Kol was practicing a spell when he received Bonnie's message. After reading it he smiled and then sped off to find his brothers.
He found Elijah, and surprisingly Nik, in the throne room listening to the weekly grievances of the people. He caught their attention and held up the missive which promptly had his brother dismissing the grievance hearing until later that day.
"You have heard from them?" Nik asked as soon as they were alone.
"Yes, they are on their way back and they are bringing three new vampires with them."
"Three?" Elijah asked perplexed. He knew that they were going to likely turn Katerina and Rebekah's mates but who could the third vampire be?
"Yes, it seems they turned Rebekah and Katerina's mates but another vampire joined them while they were there and asked that she be brought along as well. You know for a fact, Elena can't turn anyone way."
Niklaus and Elijah both chuckled at that for they both knew it was true that Elena couldn't turn away any who asked for sanctuary.
"Well, it seems your fears are unfounded dear brother. They are on their way back home."
"Yes, which is a good thing too as several people have asked when the Queen would be returning."
"I just hope they have an uneventful trip back. We all know that their trip there was a bit harrowing so I do hope this trip will be uneventful," Niklaus stated.
"I hope so too," both Kol and Elijah answered.
Atlantic Ocean
"Lena, I'm surprised Stefan hasn't gone all Ripper on us," Caroline said a few days into their voyage home.
"About that. Lexi said that the bloodline has a lot to do with the vampire becoming a Ripper or not. As you know he was from Nik's bloodline in the old timeline and you know how Klaus was in that timeline but now he is of mine. She told me that the more violent the sires bloodline the more likely it is for the new vampire to become a Ripper and as you know I have yet to kill anyone so…"
"So he isn't likely to become a Ripper in this time," Caroline concluded.
"It's not very likely no."
"Well, I am glad Bekah won't have to deal with her mate going psycho on her," Bonnie said coming into the queens cabin.
"I know. I am happy that Stefan has gotten a second chance not only with love but with his vampire side too."
"So how are the four lovebirds doing?" Caroline asked with a grin.
"Keeping to themselves," Elena began then continued, "Lexi is training Damon and Stefan to control their bloodlust which I know isn't easy on a ship full of humans but they are doing well from what the three of them have reported to me. So far they have yet to kill any of their donors."
"Maybe we can teach Damon not to be so…well you know," Caroline began.
"Yes, I know what you mean, Care."
October 5th, 1864 - Armonía
The ship made landfall in the early hours and the twelve vampires made their way to the capitol.
"Now, once we arrive I will need the three of you to meet me in the Council Chamber. I will give you an hour to unpack and settle in then Rebekah and Katerina will show you the way there."
"Why?" the three newest citizens asked.
"Well, you will have to take the Oath of Fidelity for one, to become a citizen of this country. The second reason is so you can meet the rest of my family."
At that the three nodded and the they continued on to the Capitol.
"Bonnie you didn't send Kol a message saying we had arrived did you?" Elena asked a few moments later.
"No, did you need me too?"
"No, I want to surprise them though that may not happen seeing as the streets are already filling with people."
They group let out a collective chuckle at that. But they could hear the people chanting "Long Live the Queen".
"I guess they are happy you're back Elena," Katerina quipped with a smile.
"Yes, I think you are right. And truth be told I'm glad to be back. I know I didn't always like being queen but I have since gotten used to it and I enjoy serving my people."
"It helps that they love you, Elena. We have told you from the beginning that you would be a fair and just Queen and we were right."
"I know you did," Elena said with a small grin.
"So are you saying you didn't want to be queen?" Damon asked.
"No, in the beginning when the villagers asked me to be their ruler I almost flat out refused. That is until my family told me that they supported the villager's request completely. Even then I wasn't comfortable in the position for many years."
"And she has been the best queen any country could ever hope for these past eight hundred and fifty nine years, this past June," Caroline spoke with pride.
"Wow," the three vampires stated in awe.
By this time they had entered the capitol city of Eiríni and were quickly making their way to the castle.
"By the way when we reach the castle you will have to pay your respects to the King, my husband. He will be the one to greet us I am sure."
"Elijah!"
"What?" the king asked as he went over some missives.
"They are back! They have just entered the city!" Kol said in excitement.
Elijah immediately stood and rushed from the room. He was eager to see his wife again after such a long separation. Kol followed his brother out, almost as excited to see Bonnie as he knew Elijah was to see Elena.
They met Niklaus and Freya on their way to the castle doors.
"I can't believe they are back so soon. I guess they had good weather and fair winds to aid them on their return trip," Niklaus said with excitement. Like his brothers he couldn't wait to see his beautiful wife again. He had missed her terribly during their separation and he told himself that they would never be separated like that again.
Just as the doors to the castle opened they spotted the group in the courtyard. However, they stayed by the door patiently waiting for the group to make their way to the steps.
Elena spotted Elijah on the steps outside the entry doors and she smiled brightly. She had missed her husband greatly on this trip yet she wondered how she was going to be able to keep the fact that they had found the children but could not awaken them yet, from him.
Caroline and Bonnie were thinking the same thing. None of them were sure how they were going to keep such a huge secret from their husbands but they knew that they had to as well. They saw no reason to upset them seeing as they were not able to awaken them for another one hundred and forty eight years. So they each pasted on a smile which was surprisingly easy considering the amount of time spent away from their loved ones.
They reached the steps and Stefan, Damon and Lexi all bowed before Elijah as they were told to do before hand.
"Welcome to Armonía. I hope your trip was a safe one," Elijah said in way of greeting the group.
"Thank you, Your Majesty. Our trip went very well. Your queen was very gracious in allowing us to return with her," Lexi said.
"That she is indeed," Elijah said while looking over at his queen who had come to stand beside him. "Come, we will show you to your chambers," he said taking Elena's hand before leading the group inside.
As soon as the castle doors closed behind the group Caroline and Bonnie were swept into their respective mates arms and spirited away for a long awaited reunion. Elena just shook her head and smiled as her sisters and friends were carried away by their spouses.
After showing their three newest residents to their chambers Elijah picked up his wife and speed them to their chamber.
"Someone surely missed me," Elena teased as she was unceremoniously tossed onto their bed.
"I did indeed and just so you know Lovely, I'm not letting you out of my sight anytime soon," he stated as he came to lay beside her.
"I certainly hope not and I missed you too 'Lijah. So much," she said leaning up to kiss him.
He pulled back before looking her in the eye and asking, "You found them didn't you?"
Elena didn't have to ask him who he was referring to she knew he was talking about the children. How was she supposed to lie to him and tell him that she had not when in fact she had but that they would not be able to awaken them for almost two more centuries. But she had made a promise to never lie to him again. Inwardly sighing she knew she was going to have to tell him despite the fact that she, Bonnie and Caroline had agreed not to tell the brothers about their find. She simply nodded not sure how to answer the question she could see swimming in his eyes.
"Then why…" he stopped when he saw her eyes well with tears. "What is it, my love?"
"We couldn't awaken them 'Lijah and we won't be able to for at least two more centuries," she sobbed as she broke down and told him everything that they had learned while on their trip to their old home.
After she finished he simply held her as he knew there was nothing he could say that would console her. He knew she missed her children and he would be lying if he said he didn't for he did. He couldn't wait to hold his children in his arms once more but to learn that Elena would grant to gift of procreation to their kind in the future was a lot to take in. Just the thought that they could increase their family as they had dreamed of doing when they had been human was like a dream come true.
After sweeping his wife into his arms Kol flashed them to their chamber.
"Kol! Put me down," Bonnie cried though only half halfheartedly as she was enjoying the feel of her husband's arms around her after so long apart.
"No, my little witch, I have every intention of showing you just how much I have missed you."
She wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned in to kiss him. "I missed you too."
"Bonnie, even though I know you are happy to be home why do I sense such sadness in you?" he asked as he laid her on their bed.
She bit her lip not sure how to answer him. She had agreed with her sister's that the brothers never find out that they found the children but that they would not be able to be awakened for two more centuries at the very least, yet she had promised him after their memories of their past life had returned that she would tell him everything that there would be no secrets between them.
"We found them, Kol…." she whispered all the while trying her hardest not to break now and cry.
"That is good news but wh…."
"We could not awaken them. According to the spell Ayana left it will take the blood of each parent for the spell to work but that isn't all. The spirits that brought us to you in this time showed up and told Elena that she was indeed a special vampire as it would be through her that the vampire race would be able to procreate with the help of a little magic. However, they also told us that we could not awaken the children until the past and present collide."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Because Elena, Caroline and myself time traveled we were told the date of our return which will not be until August of two thousand and twelve…"
Kol quickly understood what she wasn't saying. They would not be able to awaken the children for another two centuries which in turn saddened him greatly for he missed holding his little girl in his arms and he knew Bonnie missed her daughter as much as he did. To learn that they would have to wait even longer to awaken her was a blow.
"There is more isn't there?" he asked
"Yes, according to Ayana in the letter she left the six of us I am not just a Mikaelson witch. According to her I am still a Bennett witch which in turn makes me one of the most powerful witches alive. She also told me that I am a creationist witch and it will be with my help that the vampires will be able to procreate with the use of Elena's blood."
Kol was floored to learn everything but it didn't surprise him that she was so powerful as he had witnessed her power first hand. "So you're telling me that sometime in the future we could have more children?"
She heard the hope in his voice at the prospect of fathering another child and though the thought of becoming pregnant and giving birth again scared her to death, considering just how close she had come to dying the last time, she wanted to give him the son she knew he longed to have.
"Yes. Does this please you?"
"Of course it does, though I would be lying if I said it also didn't scare me to death. I almost lost both of you the last time and I could not live without you my darling."
Niklaus raced the two of them to their rooms.
"Nik!" she laughed as she found herself pressed against the stone wall just inside their chamber as he husband proceeded to show her just how much he had missed her.
She moaned as his hands traveled the length of her body as he searched for the ties to her dress.
"Nik, please…." she panted as he managed to divest her of her clothing almost as quickly as she was undressing him.
"I have missed you, Caroline," he whispered in her ear as he joined them together.
"I've missed you too, now make love to me Husband."
"With pleasure," he replied with a grin and proceeded to show her exactly how much he missed her.
Hours later as they lay side by side in their bed he asked, "So was your trip productive?"
She didn't have to ask what he meant by his words for she knew he meant had they found the children. She knew that she had agreed though no promises had been made not to tell the brothers of their discovery and so she told him what they had found out while visiting their old home. In the end they held each other as the tears flowed. Neither of them wanted to wait so long to awaken their sons but they knew that they had no chose but to wait.
