Chapter 29

Christine could tell Mike was struggling. Instead of dealing with the issues with Hannah, he concentrated on the other kids, and the investigation. He also didn't talk about them having sex. Eventually, the issues would have to come to the surface. For now, Christine concentrated on Hannah. She was showing all the signs of an early pregnancy. It was not what Christine wanted for her seventeen-year-old daughter. One night, about a week later, there was a knock on the bedroom door in the early morning hours. Mike got up and answered it.

"Dad, I know I'm not supposed to be out of my room, but I really need Mom." Hannah begged and Christine got out of bed and followed Hannah out without even saying anything to Mike.

"What's wrong, honey?" Christine asked.

"I thought I had gotten my period a little after supper, but I am bleeding really hard, Mom; and my stomach cramps up." Hannah explained.

"Go get some clothes on. I'll get dressed too. You're going to the hospital." Christine said.

"But Dad said…" Hannah started.

"And I will tell Dad you are going. Go get dressed." Christine answered before walking back into the bedroom.

"What's wrong?" Mike asked. He had laid back down.

"I'm not sure. I think she's having a miscarriage." Christine said as she got dressed.

"She can't too far along." Mike commented.

"I don't know, but I do know she is bleeding a lot. You can stay here, and I will call you with updates, if you care." Christine said before leaving the room. She met Hannah at the door and grabbed Mike's keys. She drove Hannah to the hospital, where she was immediately admitted. They confirmed Hannah was pregnant, but she was suffering from a tubal pregnancy. The fallopian tube was rupturing, causing the bleeding. It was up to Christine to explain to Hannah what was going on, and the doctor warned she might have to remove the tube, hurting Hannah's chances of ever having children. Christine signed off on the surgery, and then called Mike. Perhaps she should have called him first, and she knew he would have okay'd the surgery, but there was still a fear that he would tell Christine to let Hannah bleed to death. He picked up on the first ring.

"What's going on?" Mike asked.

"She is pregnant, but the pregnancy is a tubal pregnancy, so it would have never been viable. The fallopian tube is rupturing and they are taking her into surgery to repair, or possibly remove it. If it is removed, the chances of her having children is unlikely." Christine explained.

"Does she understand what's happening?" Mike asked.

"She knows the details, but I'm not certain she understands, but she had to in for surgery before I could explain it in simpler terms." Christine told him.

"Do I need to come to the hospital?" Mike asked.

"It would probably mean a lot to her, but I have your truck and its supposed to be an outpatient surgery." Christine said.

"Alright. And you'll keep me updated? Mike questioned.

"Of course." Christine agreed.

"And another thing; I do care. Don't think I don't." Mike said.

"You might tell your daughter that once she comes home. She didn't think you'd let her go to the hospital, and I have to admit; I had my doubts too." Christine answered.

"Okay." Mike answered before hanging up.

Christine wished that she had brought Kaitlyn along to keep herself occupied, because the surgery lasted about two hours, and once the doctor came out; she found out that they had to remove the fallopian tube. Hannah was in a great deal of pain, but she was released about noon. Christine was thankful to see Mike walk out to help Hannah out of the truck and into the house and was surprised when he sat her on the couch. Hannah was a bit emotional, and Christine sent Mike to the store and pharmacy to get a few things for Hannah.

"See, it'll get better." Christine said after he left.

"Will it? I'm not so sure." Hannah remarked.

"In time. Right now, your hormones are a mess and things are painful." Christine said.

"Did this ever happen to you?" Hannah asked.

"Not a tubal pregnancy. I had a miscarriage between you and Lucas. It was hard, because I was in my forth month and your dad was deployed. It took time, but things lined out." Christine answered.

"I wasn't talking about that. I was talking about Dad." Hannah commented.

"In time, that will line out too. Just be patient. He's coming around." Christine said as she smoothed the blanket over Hannah and kissed her forehead.

"I am so tired." Hannah admitted.

"Just go to sleep. I'll make your potato soup for supper tonight." Christine said.

"Okay." Hannah agreed. Within just a few moments, Hannah was asleep and Christine tidied the house up, all while praying that Mike was indeed coming around.

I'm no medical expert, so bear that in mind. I recently had a friend who had to have both fallopian tubes removed due to a tubal pregnancy.
