Chapter 29 Origins
Sean groaned as he was brought into a temple.
"We found the God Slayer on the beach. What is wrong with him?"
The Head Sage approached him before her hands were engulfed in fire.
"A dark energy has infected him. We must purge it at once. To do so would also require he remembers his past before he was frozen for 10,000 years."
After that Sean was slowly lifted down into healing waters to purge the corruption inside him.
However thats when he found himself in a red energy before seeing a copy of himself in green.
"Who are you?" Sean asked.
"I am you."
"Who am I?" Sean asked before Ares appeared.
"You are the God Slayer." Ares said.
"I don't know what that is." Sean said before Hercules appeared.
"In order to remember you must go back to the beginning to recover your old memories before you were frozen for 10,000 years." Hercules said before Poseidon appeared.
"If you do not then darkness will cover the Earth and the remaining gods will be forced to go to war against a threat just as great as the evil that corrupted us for 10,000 years." Poseidon said.
"What are you talking about? How do I regain my memories?" Sean asked as Artemis appeared.
"You must go back to the very beginning long before you reawakened 14 years ago. Find Raava" Artemis said before a bright light appeared blinding him.
Thats when someone in very ancient clothes appeared in front of him.
"Are...You Raava?" Sean asked making him chuckle.
"No Sean...But I can help you find her. I knew you when you were just a little kid shortly before you were frozen. My name is Avatar Wan. And I'll show you what happened 10,000 years ago." Wan said.
10,000 years ago
Kratos and Athena were in what would in many years be known as the four nations.
"Why are we here?" Kratos asked.
"Theres an old friend of mine who may be able to give some of her power to him which will help him in the future. He needs every advantage he can get when they come for him." Athena said.
"I see...Boy?" Kratos said not seeing him before they heard an animal roaring before a four year old Sean ran out.
"Ahh!" Sean yelled as what looked like a moose with saber teeth came out and roared at him before he hid behind his father who used his blades to kill it with ease.
"Boy." Kratos scolded.
"Sorry. How was I supposed to know?" Sean asked making Athena smile softly as she picked him up.
"Sean...You can't just approach an animal thinking it's not a threat. Everything here is...Different compared to the rest of the world." Athena said.
"Indeed. Now where is this friend of yours?" Kratos asked before they ground began to shake.
"Wasn't me." Sean said before they rushed off.
Thats when they saw two spirits wrestling around. One had a light color and the the other dark red and looked identical to one another.
"I assume one of them is the one we're looking for." Kratos said.
"The light one is Raava. She's the one we're looking for. The other however is her counterpart Vaatu. The Spirit of darkness. She's trying to keep him contained. They have a battle every 10,000 years during harmonic convergence. Which is when all the planets in the solar system are perfectly aligned and grant great power." Athena said.
"How close is that?" Kratos asked.
"Not much longer honestly. I'd say shortly after Sean's next birthday." Athena said before they noticed something using firebending on Raava. "No that fool!" Athena yelled rushing in with Kratos.
When they got to them the firebender had separated both of them making Raava scream.
"NO!" Athena yelled.
"Well, Athena. What a pleasant surprise. I had hoped perhaps the corruption had gotten to you as it did to the others on Olympus. No matter. You have my thanks human." Vaatu said flying away.
Athena grabbed the firebender and glared.
"Do you have any idea what you have done!" Athena yelled.
"I was helping a spirit that she was bullying."
"She wasn't bullying him you fool! She was keeping him contained. He's pure evil." Athena said.
"What?"
"Athena speaks the Truth. That was Vaatu. The Spirit of darkness and chaos. I am the Spirt of Light and peace. And thanks to you the world may end because of you." Raava said shocking him.
"Who are you anyway?" Kratos asked.
"My name is Wan. I only came here because the spirits were afraid. I didn't know who they were I swear." Wan said.
"Whether you knew or not you are responsible for this." Athena said as Sean poked around his mother looking at Wan who looked at him.
"And just who are you?" Wan asked.
"Her name is Athena. Goddess of Wisdom of Olympus. A god from a far way land known as Greece. Speaking of which why are you..." Raava tried to say before she spotted Sean. "Athena...Is this who I think it is?" Raava asked.
"It is. We came here hoping perhaps you could transfer some of your power into him. We didn't know you were still trying to contain Vaatu at the time." Athena said holding her son.
"I see." Raava said.
"What are you talking about?" Wan asked.
"That is not your business. The human and spirit realms are heading towards annihilation. And it's all your fault. This is why humans have no place interfering in the business of spirits." Raava said.
"This world is home to all of us, and what happens here is everyone's business." Wan said.
"Thanks to you this world may cease to exist." Athena said.
"I can only hope to track Vaatu down before it's too late." Raava said.
"Let me help you." Wan said.
"I don't want your help." Raava said.
"Wait." Kratos said stopping them. "He caused this problem. He should be the one to fix it." Kratos said.
"Exactly. Look theres gotta be some way I can help. If your a god maybe you can teach me a few things to help stop him." Wan said.
"Why would they of all beings train you!" Raava said.
"Because we may not have a choice." Athena said surprising her. "As much as I disaprove of you interfering with something that had nothing to do with you. I see you were clearly trying to do the right thing even though you didn't know the truth. This is a good quality in a human being. There may be one way you can help. But first you need to learn something new. Other elements." Athena said.
"You want him to have more than one element?" Raava asked in disbelief.
"Raava. I know you have issues with humans for all the harm they cause here...But this is bigger than you. If Vaatu wins you know what will happen." Athena said making her sigh.
"Your right. I know where one of the other mountain lion turtles are. One of Air. Wan truly wishes to help he'll need more than just the power of fire." Raava said.
"I promise I will make this right. I'll help you restore balance." Wan said.
Later
After Wan and the others traveled to the mountain lion turtle of Air Raava held the power inside her until Wan had mastered the power of fire.
Currently Kratos was training Wan while Athena had Sean next to her asleep making her smile.
"You know bringing him here is dangerous." Raava said.
"I know. But we came here for your help to see if you could give him some of your power." Athena said.
"I know. Still even if they don't find him here the war will still begin soon. And the world will be thrown out of balance for countless years. He can't just get involved he's not ready and it will take many years for him to be ready." Raava said as Sean woke up and yawned before noticing something.
"Why are you getting smaller?" Sean asked making her face him.
"He's a quick study when something changes." Athena said.
"I see. The More spirits Vaatu corrupts the stronger he gets. As darkness grows light fades." Raava said before Sean walked to the others. "I know this isn't the life you wanted for him." Raava said.
"No. All Kratos and I ever wanted was for him to have a normal safe life. But when Aletheia told us her vision. A savior born from a goddess of wisdom and a former servant of war...We knew right away she was talking about him before he was even born." Athena said.
"He was chosen for a reason." Raava said.
Sean watched as Wan trained with Kratos.
"Why were you two even here in the first place. You said needed something from Raava." Wan said.
"My son...Is more unique than both of us. Special gifts are inside him. I can't tell you everything but I can tell you he is more special than most realize right now." Kratos said.
"Oh yeah? He doesn't look that special. He just looks like a regular kid." Wan said.
"I believe you're familiar with the saying that looks can be deceiving." Kratos said.
"Fair enough." Wan said.
Weeks later
After mastering Fire bending He was ready for the power of air.
"How's this gonna work?" Wan asked.
"The only way for me to give you the other element is to pass through your body and combine our energies." Raava said.
"Great. So you've done this before." Wan said.
"No. This has never even been attempted. It is very dangerous." Raava said.
"Thats what they said about living in the spirit wilds, I survived that. I'm ready. Give me the power of Air." Wan said before she passed through him making him groan before he started airbending. "It feels completely different." Wan said.
"The other elements have different forms and benefits." Athena said.
"If Raava and Vaatu have the same fight every 10,000 years, why hasn't she or he destroyed the other?" Wan asked.
"It's not that simple. For beings of the physical world yes you would be rid of your enemy if you defeated him or her. But in our case we cannot exist without the other. At least not forever. If I destroyed him he would just regrow inside me and vice versa if he destroyed me and then the cycle continues once 10,000 more years have passed." Raava said.
"Oh so even if you lose you'll still come back." Wan said.
"Yes, but you won't be here to see it or the rest of your kind. Vaatu will destroy the world as you know it. Darkness will cover the Earth for 10,000 years." Raava said.
"And the human race will no doubt be wiped out." Athena said holding her son close as he listened to all of this.
"If I'm gonna help you battle Vaatu, Then I should visit more lion turtles." Wan said.
A year later
Over the last year Wan had trained greatly to use all four elements.
Currently right now he was watching over Sean as he slept while Kratos, Athena and Raava talked.
"I seriously don't understand what the big deal is. He's just a kid." Wan said touching his head before gasping as he suddenly felt and saw thousands of gods inside him .
Jumping back he looked at him in shock before narrowing his eyes on the parents and approached them.
"No more games." Wan said.
"Excuse me?" Athena said.
"What did you do to him? I just saw like a thousand people inside him." Wan said.
"Oh. I didn't realize you could do that or most likely he did that by accident." Athena said.
"What is going on?" Wan demanded.
"It's time you knew the truth. Sean is not an ordinary child. He's part of a prophecy to restore order. He's known as the God Slayer." Raava said.
"Wait what?" Wan asked.
"Ordinarily there are consequences to killing a god. But he's a special case. When he kills a god he can absorb them inside his body keeping their souls intact and use their abilities." Athena said.
"Why would you want to train him to kill?" Wan questioned.
"We haven't. We've traveled the world where other gods that have not been corrupted are. And every one of them transferred a piece of themselves inside him to preserve themselves and their power from running wildly." Kratos said.
"But why?" Wan asked.
"Something is corrupting the gods from three factions of Greece, Norse and Egypt. The others are more immune to it. Eventually theres gonna be a war and when the gods from the other factions die...It'll cause chaos. But since they all put their power and pieces of themselves inside him that crisis has been averted. We're trying to get him ready to defend himself. Only he can restore order to what has been destroyed." Athena said.
"So thats who all those people are. Other Gods. But how did this start?" Wan asked.
"Regretfully we don't know but it's ancient and powerful." Kratos said before they smelled smoke.
"There are other humans near by." Raava said flying away.
The all found other firebenders burning down the forest before one spotted Raava.
"A spirit!"
With that he attacked her but Wan blocked it.
"Easy there, fellas. We're friendly."
"I can't believe it. Wan?"
Wan instantly recognized him.
"Jaya! what are you doing out here?" Wan asked.
"You inspired us. Once we heard that you survived out in the wilds, we decided to try it too." Jaya said.
"Where's Yao? Did he come with you?" Wan asked.
"Yes, but sadly he didn't make it. We lost a lot of good men along the way. So why were you protecting this spirit?" Jaya asked.
"This is Raava. Don't worry. She's not like the dark spirits you've probably run into." Wan said.
"Dark spirits? Whats the difference? We throw fire at any spirit we see around here. Just like they attack any man." Jaya said.
"You have no idea what you're doing! Your only making things worse than they already are. They attack you because you keep burning the forest with complete disregard for how they feel." Raava said.
"Big deal." Jaya said before suddenly a rock hit his face. "OW!" Jaya yelled before Wan saw Sean had a rock in hand.
"Sean." Athena said picking him up.
"Ok kid you just asked for it." Jaya said before Kratos got in the way.
"You would attack a child?" Kratos asked glaring at him making him gulp.
"The spirits are coming back!"
"Lets wipe them out this time. We'll burn this whole forest if we have to." Jaya said as they ran off to fight.
"What happened to you? When did you become so violent?" Wan asked.
"You showed me we could change the world if we just stopped being so afraid." Jaya said running off.
"This isn't what I had in mind." Wan said.
"Sometimes people get the wrong idea of examples and twist it." Athena said.
Thats when both sides were ready to fight.
"Get out of the Forest, humans!"
Thats when Wan got between them.
"Wait. We can resolve this peacefully." Wan said trying to stop them from fighting.
"Stinky? You came back."
"It's good to see you again." Wan said.
"You and Raava are just in time to help us clear these tree-killing fire-lovers out of here just like the old days."
"You are the one who's getting cleared out." Jaya said.
"Enough." Athena said getting their attention.
"Athena?"
"Who the hell are you anyway?" Jaya asked.
"Watch it! Your talking to a god pal."
This shocked the humans.
"If your a god then you can kill them." Jaya said.
"What happened to you? You think killing them is the answer?" Wan asked wondering what happened to his old friend .
"Just them alone. They don't belong here. Or that kid for that matter. He's clearly not human either." Jaya said making him frown.
"I can't believe we were ever friends. The Jaya I knew would never say that." Wan said.
"Things changes...I changed." Jaya said before the skies began to thunder as Vaatu appeared before the spirits turned dark.
"It's Vaatu. He's using their anger to turn them to his side." Raava said.
"WIPE THEM OUT!"
Thats when both sides attacked each other.
"Stop, Please!" Wan said.
Kratos punched several of the dark spirits away that tried to come near his son before Jaya glared at Sean and threw fire at him which he noticed before his eyes glowed green before it dissipated before it even reached him.
"YOU SEE THAT! THAT KID AIN'T NORMAL! KILL HIM!" Jaya yelled.
"Raava, we need to combine our energies. Maybe then we'll have enough power to stop this." Wan said before they merged before Wan jumped up using all four elements. "ENOUGH! YOU NEED TO STOP FIGHTING NOW BEFORE YOU DESTROY EACH OTHER!" Wan yelled making some of the spirits turn normal again.
"Stinky, What happened?"
"He's controlling all four elements." Jaya said in shock.
"Wan, I have to leave your body, or I'll destroy you." Raava said as she left and carried him away as Kratos and his family ran off.
Later
Wan slowly opened his eyes seeing Kratos and Athena above him before he stood up as they saw the destruction the fight caused.
"We have to go back." Wan said before Vaatu appeared.
"Don't bother. Your human friends have already been annihilated." Vaatu said shocking him before Vaatu saw Sean holding Raava who was much smaller now in his arms. "Enjoy your final days. See you at the end of the world." Vaatu said flying off before he looked at Sean one last time. "Hmm. There is something strange about that child." Vaatu said before flying away.
"I'm sorry Wan." Raava said as Sean placed her in a tea pot before they left.
Days later
Wan and the rest of the group arrived in the South pole where the Southern portal was at.
"We're almost there. I was wrong about you, Wan. I had no idea that humans were capable of such nobility and courage. I'm sorry that we do not have much more time together." Raava said.
"Lets not give up before the battle's even begun. Who knows what will happen? After all, this is my first harmonic convergence." Wan said as they arrived at the portal.
"Here is the Southern portal. Here Vaatu and I will do battle once again at the place where the two worlds meet." Raava said as they passed through.
Athena placed Sean down behind some large rocks.
"Sean I need you to stay here and don't move. Your father and I will be done shortly." Athena said kissing his forehead.
"Ok." Sean said as the three prepared.
Thats when Vaatu finally arrived.
"Are you ready for our final battle, Raava? Thanks to our friend separating us, I think this time I may be rid of you once and for all." Vaatu said.
"Before you get to her, you'll have to go through us." Wan said making him laugh wickedly.
"No mere Human can stand against me. They may last longer but you? You're just a human." Vaatu laughed.
"Haven't you heard the legends? I'm not a regular human anymore." Wan said before firebending him in the face before Kratos swung his blades at him cutting into him before charged at him cutting into him as well.
Sean from a distance watched all this in awe.
Vaatu reformed before laughing at them.
"I lived 10,000 lifetimes before the first of your kind crawled out of the mud" Vaatu said before blasting them which they dodged before Kratos roared as he slashed him before he smacked him away.
"It was I who broke through the divide that separated the plane of spirits from the material world." Vaatu said blasting them again before Athena had her swords glow and blasted him making him growl. "I don't know why you have come Here Athena but..." Vaatu said before he spotted Sean again. "What is it about that child?" Vaatu asked
making her eyes widen before slashing him.
"Leave him out of this!" Athena yelled as she grabbed a large piece of earth before throwing it at him.
"Your protecting him from me. Why? What is he?" Vaatu asked before Kratos slashed him before Wan airbended him. "There is something about that boy. Something powerful. I can sense it. But what I wonder." Vaatu said.
"Silence!" Kratos roared slashing him.
"I sense a great power within him. And yet individual powers as well. It's as if he has the powers of..." Vaatu trailed off before he realized. "THE GOD SLAYER!" Vaatu yelled dashing towards him.
"NO! Raava!" Wan yelled before they merged and Wan dashed to him before blasting him away.
"I see now! You wished for Raava to transfer a piece of her power into your son. Thats not going to happen!" Vaatu yelled smacking Wan away before dashing back at Sean only for Athena to get in his way and slashed him.
"You will not touch my son!" Athena yelled blasting him with her swords forcing him back.
"You should have kept him away from these lands Athena." Vaatu said before blasting her away before he appeared in front of him before his tendrils rushed at him making him close his eyes before feeling blood splatter on his face.
Opening his eyes he gasped seeing his father heavily wounded having taken the blow to stop him.
"HA! A noble sacrifice for a father. BUT PATHETIC!" Vaatu yelled blasting him before he landed on the ground dead from his injuries before Sean rushed to him.
"Father." Sean said crying before Vaatu laughed at this.
"There is no one who can protect you now Slayer of Gods." Vaatu said mockingly before Sean's eyes started to glow green before a great tremendous amount of power was felt.
"What!" Vaatu yelled in shock before the Convergence started with the beams crossing. But they warped around the place.
"What?" Wan asked before it hit him making him yell in shock before his eyes glowed.
"We are bonded forever." Raava said before the beams hit Sean.
"NO!" Athena yelled before all the gods who's power Sean absorbed in his life appeared.
"NO!" Vaatu yelled before they all attacked him before thousands of spirits appeared from the portals attacking him as well.
"Wan nows your chance!" Raava yelled before he used the four elements to contain Vaatu before placing him inside the tree that was in the middle making him a prisoner.
Wan rushed to Sean who held his head crying as all the gods began remerging with him.
"Wan you need to stop him before he loses control." Raava said making him narrow his eyes before grabbing his head before his hands glowed for a minute before Sean passed out as Athena rushed to her son and held him.
"What did you do?" Athena asked.
"I locked away all his memories. The trauma he just went through almost made him lose control. This way he won't know what happened and prevents that. When he's ready They'll be unlocked." Wan said as she held her son close.
"You insolent BRAT!" Vaatu roared getting their attention. "I will see you suffer for this God Slayer! Mark my words. We will meet again in 10,000 years and I will finish what I started." Vaatu said.
"There won't be a next time. I will seal the portals so no one will ever be able to free you." Wan said.
"You cannot stop what will happen. I have foreseen it. He and I will fight again. And next time I'll end him for causing this." Vaatu said as the two left.
"What will you do now?" Wan asked.
"I don't know. Kratos was the only one who could protect him from the other gods if they came after him. Without him he's vulnerable." Athena said worried for her son's life.
"What if they think he's dead?" Wan asked confusing her. "What if he awakens in the future and the gods think he's already dead. This way they won't be after him until he's ready. Put him on ice till the time is right." Wan said.
"That...Could work. A temple would be needed to keep him on ice. But doing so would harm him...Unless I transfer my life force into him over the course of history. Doing so would keep him alive. But I would die...But the world needs him." Athena said knowing her needs for wanting to see her son grow with her own eyes was out of reach now.
"I'm really sorry. But like you said...The world needs him. The people will suffer for a long time. But one day he'll come back and give them hope again." Wan said making her nod kissing her son's head who was still out cold.
Weeks later
With the help of the spirits who were loyal to Athena they built a temple for her and her son before Wan sent them to the spirit world before sealing both portals.
Athena got into the casket with her son with a rag wrapped around him before Wan transferred some of Raava's power into him and used his new abilities to freeze them in place. In one of the statues was what remained of Kratos's life force to protect his son when his life was in danger.
"This is the only option Wan. If they find him now they'll kill him." Raava said.
"I know. It's sad seeing he's gonna lose two parents so young. But I get the feeling a new one will find him and be all he needs." Wan said before leaving the temple before it went underground where it would stay for 10,000 years until the time was right. "Goodbye Athena...Sean." Wan said walking away with the mission of bringing peace to his lands.
Present
Sean opened his eyes glowing Green.
"AHH!" Sean yelled holding his chest before panting as the fire sages looked at him.
"I remember." Sean said having all his memories back.
"Do you know who you are?" The Leading fire sage asked.
"My name is Sean Ashburn Kruger. Son of Athena and Kratos. The God Slayer." Sean said.
Soon Sean walked outside the temple.
"Thank you for everything. How long have I been gone?" Sean asked.
"That I cannot say. But you do not have much time left. Harmonic Convergence is only a few weeks away."
"I gotta find Korra and get her to close that portal." Sean said before taking Horus's form and flew away to find his wife.
Authors Note: And with that we now know Sean's origins with how he ended up in the South Pole. Why that temple was built and why Sean was put on ice with his mother for 10,000 years and how he has a connection to the Avatars. Now next chapter he tells Korra and the others what he has learned.
