haimish

[ hey-mish ]

adjective

homey; cozy and unpretentious.

The flat Harry and Hermione bought right out of Hogwarts was a small one, but it fit them well. With well loved furniture donated by his mother and wall décor gifted by her parents as a housewarming gift, the couple had browsed stores for knick knacks and other accoutrements to fill their home with the essence of themselves. All too soon, Crookshanks had his cat tree in the corner of the living room, Hermione had shelves upon shelves of books, and Harry had a display case for his childhood Quidditch brooms, all shrunken down to keychain size with permanent shrinking charms. Overall, their home had a very haimish feel to it, and Harry and Hermione had decided they would love to have people over, in moderation of course, to their homely little place in the next few years.

Reaching over to grab the quilt off of the bed, Hermione continued into the living room before plopping onto the couch next to Harry, accepting a handful of popcorn from the bowl he offered. Crookshanks laid purring on a blanket on the other side of Harry, and ignored them as he slept. Hermione pulled the blanket over herself and her fiancé, before turning to face the tv. Harry unpaused the movie and snuggled closer to her once more, his arm wrapping around her shoulders.

"So what's happened now?" he whispered to her as they watched Luke Skywalker run around with Yoda on his back. Hermione shot him a small glare.

"Pay attention and you'll find out!" she replied just as quietly and he chuckled before pulling her closer, his eyes focusing back on the tv.

"Don't ever change," he stated, before immersing himself back into the movie they were watching.

"I never plan on it," she replied with a grin before reaching for another handful of popcorn.

At their side, Crookshanks sat, purring in happiness at his two favorite people in the world. He got to his paws, and searched underneath the edge of the blanket. Harry lifted the blanket up, and Crookshanks shot underneath it to lay across both of their laps, ensconced in the heat. With quiet chuckles, the two humans focused back on the movie, the feeling of coziness wrapping around them. Hermione gazed around them, seeing the broken down moving boxes and leftover things yet to be unpacked.

This might only be temporary until they bought a house in a few years, before inheriting Potter Manor when they're older, but for now this flat was home.
