Nanami was curled up in her bed as she scrolled through her contacts. I can't do this alone. I've bitten off way more than I can chew… She thought with a sigh. Mio jumped onto her chest and looked down at her. She scratched under his chin. "Maybe I should just go to the police about this? An anonymous tip?" She asked no one in particular. "God I should've just done that from the start right?" Her cat meowed softly in response.
Her phone pinged. It was Izuku. Her face burned with embarrassment from what happened after school. She opened the message.
"Are you going to tell me about what happened earlier? I know you told Todoroki-kun", with a concerned cat emoji.
She smiled a little. He sounds like my big brother… She sighed and sat up. She messaged the entire situation to him. She watched the message go from delivered to read. She watched as he seemed to be typing out a message. Then stop. Then he began typing again. Soon, her phone vibrated with a call. "Hello?"
"I… I'm sorry I couldn't think of how to respond over text." He sounded oddly exhausted. "This wasn't what I was expecting. On one hand, I'm happy it wasn't what I thought it was, but on another hand, I'm nervous that you've been doing this alone. Is this why you've been looking so tired?"
Nanami's eyes narrowed with amusement as she was vaguely reminded of her brother. "Yeah… I've been trying to collect evidence so I could get Eri-chan out of there. But for some reason no matter when I go to her house, nothing out of the ordinary happens." Angry tears for the child in question began to well up. "Her father's a neat freak with an insane amount of bloodlust. Eri-chan just shuts down if I try to get her to talk about it. It isn't normal and I'm running out of ideas to help…"
"Nanami…?" Izuku called softly.
"H-He's hurting her, Izukun. I'm in over my head but I can't stand the idea of abandoning her. I know what it's like when someone you should trust hurts you." She wiped her eyes. "He found out about the training trip and our exams… that's what the call was about… a-and he asked me if I know what I should do. A-And.. and…" She covered her mouth as the sick feeling came over her again. "There was this sound-a scream and… I'm probably paranoid but for a split second I thought he killed someone while on the phone with me… or he at least seriously injured someone." She let out a few quiet sobs. How she hoped her father wasn't home. That he wasn't using his quirk.
The line was silent. She made no effort to fill that silence with words. She looked at her phone and saw the call was still connected. Izuku was giving her a moment to compose herself. She wiped her eyes and took a calming breath.
"Nanami? What do you plan on doing?" He asked softly.
"I was thinking of failing the practical exam so I don't have to go…" There was another short silence. "Is that wrong?"
"You want to save this girl right?" Izuku asked. Nanami made a sound of agreement. "Then I think you're going about this the wrong way. You need your hero license if you think this guy is a villain. So you should be doing your best to succeed, not fail on purpose. He sounds dangerous too."
Her eyes softened as his words sunk in. That thought hadn't crossed her mind. "I… will you help me?"
"I'd love to. But I don't think it's a good idea. Too many hero students at once may make him wary and lash out," he began. "For now let's focus on what you can do. Pass the exam and train to be a better hero. Then you can get your license and take action." She heard him begin to mutter inaudibly, and it brought a smile to her face. Most likely he was coming up with a strategy. "Ah- Nanami, did you tell Kacchan about this?"
She tensed. "No… I want to, but I'm afraid he'll insist I just charge in, kick Chisaki's butt, then take Eri-chan and run."
"That does sound like him… but Kacchan is amazing, don't forget that. He might be able to help in ways I can't."
"Eh… that's a good point. He's got an interesting perspective compared to mine." She sighed and smiled a little. "Thanks, Izukun. I feel a lot better after talking to you."
"Don't mention it. I feel better knowing what's been bothering you this whole time."
"Ah- that reminds me. What did you think was happening?" She asked curiously.
Izuku's voice hitched. "Uh…" he cleared his throat. "You looked so tired and you threw up so… I uh… thought maybe Kacchan and you-"
Nanami's face turned bright red. "I-Izukun is a secret pervert…" She muttered incredulously.
"W-What?! No no no! It's not like that! It's just that you're in a relationship and stuff a-and Kacchan is so protective and whatnot-" click.
Nanami stared at her phone after hanging up. "I think he and my mom would get along…"
Katsuki grunted as Nanami jumped onto his back from seemingly out of nowhere. "Hey, Doe Eyes." He greeted casually. She nestled her head into his shoulder and yawned. "You didn't pull another all-nighter studying, did you?" He asked skeptically.
Nanami's eyes widened as she slid off of his back. "No, I just…" she awkwardly coughed into her hand. "Was stressed out…." She moved to his front and hugged him. "I'm okay. Thanks for worrying about me."
His cheeks turned pink and his face twisted into a scowl. "Don't be stupid, I wasn't worried." He grumbled. Nanami smiled when he placed a hand on her head regardless. "We need to talk about your bratsitting job."
"Babysitting." She corrected awkwardly.
"I know what I said." He scoffed. He grabbed her hand and began walking with her. "That icy-hot bastard told me about you puking yesterday after a call with your boss."
Nanami flinched at the accusing tone in her boyfriend's voice. "Well, that's-"
"Why the hell are you telling that bastard all this stuff before me?" He demanded. "He told me about the kid and everything. I'm your boyfriend, you need to tell me these things before anyone else. Especially that bastard, I've known you longer." He scolded. He stopped and turned to pinch the tip of her nose. "Why didn't you ask for help?"
Nanami groaned a bit and smacked his hand a bit. She touched her nose and sighed a little. "Katsuki…" she looked up at him with a tired smile. "Will you help me kidnap a child?" She asked half-jokingly.
Katsuki answered immediately with a blank stare. "Yeah, sure."
"Don't agree so quickly! I wasn't serious!" She shrieked. "That's why I didn't want to tell you…"
"You were half-serious." He refuted. She didn't deny that. "Look I'm not good at this romantic gesture shit, but just know that I've got your back." He smirked and lit an explosion in his palm. "But seriously, let's just bust that guy's ass and take the kid."
Nanami laughed a little and shook her head. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you, Katsuki. I'll be more honest from now on." She rubbed her eye a little and took his hand in hers. "Are you ready for the practical exams?"
"Do you even have to ask?" He asked haughtily. "Doesn't matter what they throw at me, there's nothing I can't handle."
She found herself laughing at her boyfriend's overconfidence. She hummed as they entered the school gate. "I wish I was that confident. So um… since we're being honest about everything," She began awkwardly. "Turns out I have two quirks after all." She mumbled. Katsuki quirked an eyebrow. She poked her fingers together. "I have the quirk Good Ear. It's not as good as my dad's, or my aunt's, but we went to the doctor and yeah… it just randomly developed." She deadpanned as she stared at her hands. "My doctor said odds are when my Misfortune quirk developed first it prevented my Good Ear from developing. Since I've been properly regulating my power with training though, it's gradually begun you know… manifesting. I don't know if it'll improve or if it's just what I got now."
"Good Ear huh?" Katsuki repeated. She watched as he kicked a rock with some disinterest. "Damn. Bet you would've preferred your mom's quirk. It's pretty useful."
Nanami shivered, recalling the one time her mother used her quick offensively against Mashiro. "I'm not gonna lie, I would've liked having Mom's quirk since I would be able to attack more…" She tensed, wondering if she sounded ungrateful. "Dad's quirk is still good too!" She quickly defended.
His brows furrowed as he seemed to be deep in thought. At first, she thought he didn't seem to believe her excuse, but then he turned to look at her. "Hey, Nana, if you had a combination of both quirks, would that mean you could talk to plants?"
There was a moment of silence as what Katsuki had said registered in Nanami's brain. "Was… was that a joke?"
"It might've been."
She snorted. "Oh my god."
Katsuki and Izukun vs. All Might.
Katsuki and Izukun vs. All Might.
Katsuki and Izukun vs. All Might.
Nanami was repeating this mantra in her head the second she heard the announcement of who she and her classmates were fighting with. Katsuki and Izukun vs. ALL MIGHT!
Safe to say she wasn't taking the idea very well.
"Nanami-chan?" Toru's voice snapped the girl out of her panic. "Are you okay?" She asked.
Nanami blinked a bit before pinching the bridge of her nose. "Uh… yeah I'm… I'm good." She muttered.
Shoji went up to her, pointing off to the side at Izuku and Katsuki interacting. It seemed her curly-haired friend wanted to try and strategize, but her boyfriend had no interest as he walked away from him. She and Izuku locked eyes and he could only give her a pathetic smile.
"Maybe you should try and talk to Bakugo. Midoriya seems to be having a hard time." Shoji suggested.
She nodded a bit, before chasing after her fuming boyfriend. "Katsuki!" She grabbed his arm, carefully avoiding the pin on his gauntlet. "Aren't you going to plan with Izukun? You're facing All Might after all." She asked nervously.
Katsuki stopped and glared at her, averting his gaze at the sight of her flinching. He scoffed and stood off to the side. "Why the fuck should I? I don't need to work with that bastard to beat All Might. Don't expect me to work with him just because he's your friend." He grumbled.
Nanami shook her head before spreading her arms, trying to signal him to look at the big picture. "Come on, they said it themselves! The teachers aren't going to hold back! You guys stand a better chance if you work together! Don't let your pride get you hurt!" She finished this with a stomp of her foot. She dropped her arms as he met her gaze again. His eyes were narrowed in displeasure. He wasn't going to budge and she knew it. With a heavy sigh, Nanami ran her fingers through her messy bangs in frustration. "Fine. Just… just promise me you'll be careful?" She pleaded weakly.
Katsuki's gaze wandered over to All Might who was conversing with Aizawa. He looked at his distressed girlfriend and put his hand on her head, ruffling her hair and earning a squeal from her as he messed up her tidy updo. "I'll win. Make sure you watch me." He declared confidently. Her shoulders sagged in defeat but nonetheless, she found herself smiling at his bold statement.
"Right. I'll watch you!" Feeling bold herself, Nanami put her hand on his shoulder, pulling herself up and placing a firm kiss on his cheek.
His face turned bright red and he took a hasty step back, covering his cheek where she had kissed him. "Hey, everyone saw that!" He exclaimed.
Nanami smiled a bit and hurried off to her teammates. Shoji seemed to be embarrassed after witnessing the kiss, while Toru on the other hand seemed to be practically vibrating with glee at the sight.
Nanami ducked behind a pillar as Snipe shot at them. Their trial wasn't going well, as the pro hero cornered them through his several rounds. "Ah… he's not making this easy!" She hissed. She looked back at Shoji and Toru. "It looks like he's planning on keeping us here until time runs out, I have no idea what we're supposed to do!"
Toru put her hand on what both Nanami and Shoji assumed was her chin. "Hmm… Well, we have our own sniper you know! Let's fight fire with fire!" She squealed, pointing finger guns in Snipe's direction.
Nanami and Shoji looked confused before the dupli-arms wielder caught on and looked at the shortest expectantly. There was a moment of silence as she stared at her slingshot. She took a deep breath in and sighed, before looking up at the two of them.
"No."
"Oh come on, do you want to fail Nanami?!" Toru protested.
Nanami shook her head "I'm not that good! What if I miss?!" She shrieked.
"It'll be fine, seriously! You can do it!"
"Yoshino, do you have anything in your pouch that could stop him from moving at least? We can create a diversion while Hagakure goes in, okay?" Shoji encouraged gently.
Nanami puffed out her cheek as she pulled out a green ball. There was a silent agreement among the three teens as she resolved herself to try.
Suddenly a canister rolled close to where the three students were hiding. Smoke erupted from the container, causing them to be forced to move from their hiding spot as the hero's shots destroyed their pillar. Nanami crouched low to the ground and fired a purple ball, using the light from the flash grenade to expose Snipe's location. Biting her lip, she held onto a single green ball.
"How clever!" They heard him praise. "But I know where you are too now."
She yelped when Snipe fired right in front of her. Naturally, the teacher likely missed on purpose. Rubbing her eyes as the dust from the shot flew into her face, Nanami aimed her slingshot. Her eyes were teary as she tried to focus her vision. She couldn't see anything. Closing her eyes, she did her best to activate Good Ear. She could hear everything. Hagakure's quiet steps as she circled the pro hero while his attention was on her and Shoji. Her eyebrows knitted together as she focused even harder. It seemed that Snipe had erased his presence. She had to fine-tune her hearing. Her eyes opened as she heard the sound of distorted breathing. Undoubtedly, it had to be Snipe. His mask made the sound unique.
I found him! She thought incredulously. She aimed her slingshot and fired a green ball. It attached to his boot and Snipe grunted when it burst into a liquid that quickly hardened, securing him in place.
"What in the-? What is this?!" Snipe cried out in distress. He began pulling on his leg until his foot was freed from his boot. He once again aimed his gun, preparing to shoot with his rubber bullets, before Shoji ran in front of Nanami and held his arms up in what looked to be surrender. "Aren't you surrendering a little too easily…?" He asked with suspicion.
"I got him! We did it!" Toru cried out excitedly, placing the cuffs on his wrist as she did.
"Team Hagakure, Shoji, and Yoshino have passed the exam!"
Nanami watched as Katsuki physically threw Izuku towards the finish line. She winced when All Might slammed into him, causing him to instead hit a bus that was for some reason there. While she was happy to see them working together, it was obvious that the boys were horribly outmatched. This whole fight was scaring her. She was worried about Izuku's back, but she was even more concerned about Katsuki.
Boom. Boom. Boom! Large expulsion after large explosion.
He's practically destroying the muscles in his arms! She thought frantically. She bit her thumbnail as she watched them struggle. My Katsuki… is he really going to be okay after this?
She looked at Recovery Girl, who seemed to be analyzing the whole fight. The frown on the Youthful Hero's face told Nanami that this would take a lot of work to heal. She didn't need this kind of stress, she really didn't. Her fists clenched as the camera showed Katsuki biting into All Might's hand before falling unconscious. He tried so hard, but in the end, he was no match for the number one hero. She closed her eyes and let out a heavy sigh. She could feel her boyfriend's frustration.
"Team Bakugo and Midoriya pass!"
Her eyes opened at the sight of Izuku carrying the unconscious Katsuki through the gate. She heard Recovery Girl sigh and mumble words of irritation as she left.
Ochaco began to excitedly shake her friend's shoulder. "They passed! They really passed! I was so worried about him! Ah-them! I said them!" Nanami glanced at her, an eyebrow raised as the girl's quick correction. The zero gravity user shook her hands wildly as she tried to redirect the blonde's attention elsewhere. "You must've been worried about Bakugo-kun, right? You looked like you were gonna faint when he threw up!"
The freckled girl placed a hand on her chest as she sighed again. She had been doing that a lot today. "I was so scared… As soon as Recovery Girl says we're allowed to visit, I'm going to go see them." She scowled a little as she looked at All Might on the screen. "He didn't hold back at all…" She looked at her friends, who looked back at her in concern. Her expression softened and she fiddled with the elastic on her slingshot. "I know he's just doing his job, so is it bad that I'm kinda mad at him?"
Tsuyu put her finger to her chin and tilted her head. "I don't think so. Bakugo-chan is your boyfriend, so it makes sense that seeing him get hurt like that made you mad." She reasoned. The frog girl walked up to her classmate and put her hand on her shoulder. "But try not to hold it against him too much, okay? I'm sure he feels guilty."
Nanami bit the inside of her cheek, rubbing the back of her neck as she did so. "Alright…"
"So you passed your exam?"
"Yes, Sir. Meaning I will be attending the school trip." Nanami answered. She paced in front of Recovery Girl's office as she spoke on the phone with Chisaki. School was well past over, but she wanted to wait for Katsuki to wake up. "If I have your permission, Chisaki-san, I'd like to send Eri-chan letters throughout the duration of the trip."
"…"
"…"
"I'll allow it." He answered smoothly.
Nanami bounced on her heels a little, contemplating what to say next. "Is Eri-chan there? I'd like to speak to her if that's okay."
There was another moment of silence. Beads of sweat dripped down her head as she awaited his answer. She focused her hearing to listen to his side. She heard tiny footsteps approaching him, and could only assume that Eri had come to take the phone.
"Nanami-san!"
She couldn't help but smile at the sound of Eri's excitement. She was just too precious. "Hi, Eri-chan! How are you?"
"I'm ok. Did you pass your test? You must be excited, right?" The child asked politely.
Nanami smiled softly before twirling her hair stick in her hand. "I am. I'm sorry I won't be able to babysit you for a little while. I'll bring you a nice souvenir and I'll write you plenty of letters okay?" She offered.
"That's okay. I wish I could go with you though. It sounds like fun…"
The blonde winced at the dejected tone in the child's voice. "Eri-chan? You know I'm not abandoning you right? Your father brought up that you were upset when you found out I might have to go for a little while. Is that true?" She asked gently.
Eri made a sound of confusion, which in turn confused Nanami. "I'm not upset… You said we could camp in our garden sometime, so it's okay."
Nanami made a mental note on how she didn't deserve to have such a pure little friend like Eri. "It must have been a misunderstanding." She reasoned. That or your dad is a manipulative piece of garbage. She hummed a little bit, not sure what to say. The child's father had blatantly lied to her, and that was only more suspicious. Her eyes widened at the sound of footsteps and groaning coming from inside the nurse's office. "I feel much better knowing you won't be mad at me. I'll have to call you back okay? Be good."
"Okay," Eri answered simply. "Kai, Nanami-san has to go now." Click!
Nanami's eyes widened as she stared at her phone. "Kai…? She calls her dad by name?"
"Nana…?" Nanami turned to see Katsuki, who had been bandaged up and looked very exhausted. "What are you doing here?"
"Katsuki! You're okay!" She hugged him, albeit gently as she wasn't sure how well healed he was. He put his hand on her back, wincing as she slightly tipped him over. She let him go, unsure how to touch him without hurting him. "Sorry, um… are you okay?"
He grunted and took her hand, walking down the hall with a slight limp. "All Might, that bastard… making me have to work with Deku." He glanced at Nanami, meeting her concerned gaze. He put his arm around her and scoffed. "Don't look at me like that. I'm fine."
Her eyes softened and she let out a chuckle. "I know. You're amazing, Katsuki, you were so cool."
His cheeks turned red and he pulled her closer to him. "You're not wrong." He scoffed. She stretched up and moved to kiss his cheek. At the last second, he turned his head, pressing his lips to hers. He put his hand on her cheek and deepened the kiss, before parting from her and pulling her along. "You're sleeping over at my place. I don't feel like getting kissed by you old man again." He grumbled.
"Pfft-!" She covered her mouth to hide her laughter. "Okay… But I don't think your parents will be okay with that."
"It's not like you haven't slept in my room before." He scoffed.
Her eyes widened as she put her hand to her mouth. She recalled when Mitsuki had more or less forced her to sleep in Katsuki's room, back when her grandmother was a problem. She smiled a little bit and lifted her head, just looking up at him with pure adoration. His face flushed a little as she held his gaze. This boy had done so much for her. She really didn't deserve him.
"I love you, Katsuki."
His blush spread to his ears. He brought his hand over his face to try and hide it. It was still very obvious. "Yeah…" She laughed a little. He wasn't ready, but she was okay with that.
I MADE IT! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BAKUGO! HAHAH! It's also my mom's birthday, and a friend of mine's birthday so that was neat! Three characters have the same bdays as my family members and I just think that's awesome. Hope you enjoyed! It's 11:50 something god, I barely made it! Questions, reviews, I look forward to them! Thank you for reading Busy Bees! I have two jobs now! I'm so tired! HAHAHA!
Okay but in all seriousness, if this seems kinda jumbled I'm really sorry. I'm kind of mentally exhausted, but I wanted to get this out today. I need to make some changes probably, but I hope this was nice though! I don't feel too confident about this chapter, I'm not going to lie. It's just been one of those days, and I've been working on this chapter for the longest trying to get it out. I feel kinda... stupid lol. I'm sorry. Maybe I should rewrite this in general? Ha... TTvTT
Oh oh! This is random but you guys remember the scene where Yaomomo takes everyone on the Bakugo rescue to get costumes and junk? And Deku is just dressed as like... a Yakuza or something? I just randomly imagined Nanami cracking up, to the point where she's tearing up and she's struggling because it's a serious time but it's just hilarious because COME ON! xD I'm wheezing!
