Take me further down the forbidden path 29
The first thing is I hate to keep the tension going but its for the best really because if something like this was settled so easy I'd have no story. second is i'm glad people are still following and enjoying.
enjoy and review
Never once in all Regina's life did she ever yell. Not just any yell this particular one was one of pure terrified fear for her child or her own well-being. Emma her girlfriend, mother of her children, sheriff burst in to her office. Gun drawn not a second later as she searched the office.
"Emma Swan what do you think you're doing. You literally scared the piss out of me."
"Shh"
"You did not just shush me!" She hisses. "I thought you were dealing with-"
"Regina!" Emma spun on her heals. " I'm sorry I scared you but quiet for just a sec." As if listening to the sounds of the building she observes in silence. "Fine, have you seen anyone strange today."
"Like out of town strange no. Why?"
"Do you know anyone named Greg?"
"No."
"Owen?"
"N-Once. But what would he have to do with Neal."
"Damn they aren't crazies then we'll obviously they're crazy they shot Neal but don't let any strangers near you I mean it I'll be back in a few." Without much explanation Emma vanishes just like she came.
"What the hell." Regina thinks now unable to sit in her office as she registers what Emma said. "Henry." She whispers but knows he's in school and should be safe for another three hours.
Emma didn't go straight back to the jail she went to the town line. They had taken the battery from the phone before and they searched the car didn't find anything resembling the equipment mentioned in the notebook. Looking again was her only play at the moment. The empty road went on as long as she could see as she crossed the town line.
A thorough look in every crevice and Emma had to accept that two other guys working with the two locked up had this torture device in hand. However the lack of it in hers made her so furious. Walking away she burst the car into flames and flung a good distance further away. Wether it was from the explosion or from her pushing it back she didn't care as she walked back into town not looking back.
Though she felt much better she wasn't done. Getting back to the sheriff office she told Mulan she wanted Greg in cuffs in the interrogation room. While she was getting him she called up Lily who was with Malifecent at the hospital.
"Emma what's up?"
"They are after Regina I need to interrogate them. They wanted to interrogate Regina by using a shock therapy machine. We have on at the hospital in the psych ward. I need it. Tell them I'll be there soon if they don't give anything up first chance."
"I will just tell them to put it in an empty room I'll come get you two in 10 minutes tops."
"Yeah that's good." Emma looks over at Mulan knowing if she can hear she may not understand. This was not about looking good or bad this was about protecting her family. She didn't care at all if she looked bad doing it. "Hey hows Neal? You guys are still there so he must be better than I thought."
"Actually Emma.. he's-" a struggle behind her causes Emma to look and find Greg tripped up now kneeling on the floor.
"Hold on."
"Sorry Emma he just kept wrestling me so I made him get down."
"that's fine. Listen Lily im gonna need that equipment ASAP. I gotta go." Not intending to forget to hear about Neals condition but as she dragged Greg into the interrogation room she worried less about if he was getting worse than they expected because she needed to end this risk to Regina and know it was the end as soon as possible. Greg gulped so loud as Emma hung up and took him into her own hands. "Thanks for being on point today. Lily an I are gonna handle him you can run a patrol. Can't have things happening out there an no one watching out."
"Of course." Without hesitation or doubt she grabbed the cruisers keys and left.
"Just you and me now buddy. You going to give me answers the easy way or the hard way."
"I ain't got nothing to say unless I have my lawyer."
"Sorry no lawyers here there was but he turned out to be looney. Tell me why you think Regina is the bane of your existence."
"Regina? We have never been here before."
"I know your lying, See I have a secret power that tells me someone is lying. Either you or she has or both of you. I think it was just you by what I read in your notebook. Little weird to have those in your car but I suppose you seem like someone who keeps a diary. I can go and read those but I wanna hear it from you. I want to hear you tell me the truth."
"I remember her that's all we were in town ages ago. I wanted to come back to see the place."
"So you shot my son's father to get here. You shouldn't even know here! You do which means you don't just remember it. You don't just want a trip down memory lane…. that's it where the hell is Lily." Behind her the speaker buzzes.
"Out here boss wanted to see if he gave up before interrupting."
"Yeah well I'm done playing nice. Get up Greg were taking a trip alright I just don't think your gonna like it." He struggles knowing without a lawyer he may break under pressure though he didn't know what to expect. It might not have been the best thing to show off to an outsider but a 15 minute drive would only defuse the tension. So a moment later they were in an empty white room with a chair for strapping in patients.
"Fuck! No no not again!" Greg saw the machine and instantly knew the the sheriff was willing to shock him for answers like he wrote about doing to Regina.
"Sure is buddy. Let's start easy." Emma says strapping him in with Lily's help. "You're Owen right? That's your real name?"
"Yes."
"Good now why are you with this chick. If you have an issue with Regina what issues does she have."
"None she just feels mad at the world and hates magic. I just want answers. I wasn't really going to do anything I was just angry and venting." Emma feels her core vibrate at the moment he lied. He did want to do it. Powering on the machine it gave a whir of energy. "okay okay I wanted to but I'm convinced my father is still here. She took him!"
"What is your friends name." Emma demanded giving him another easy one.
"Tamara."
"why does she hate magic? who are you working with?" Getting impatient knowing she needed to get back to Regina soon.
"I don't know she ran into heard my story took me in on a job for hunting down and destroying magic. Sometimes we work with these other guys kids really not to old." Nothing felt off but why would kids be involved.
"She's never told you her story?"
"She said something about a guy who did her dirty named August. But that was months and months ago before she handled The Dragon."
"The Dragon?"
"it's a guy… a guy who makes miracles happen. Tamara said she had to make sure he was using magic before taking care of him." Clearly he would do almost anything to not get shocked she had to assume he probably had treatments growing up if he told people at a young age magic existed but persisted as he got older.
"Owen listen I really want to use this machine on you for what you wrote but if you don't fuck around with Lily she's gonna ask you more questions for me I wont use it. If you do and she has to use it I'm going to get a freebie for every answer you mess around." He nodded his head immediately and if he wasn't pissing himself now Emma wouldn't be to surprised if she came back and he did then. "I'm gonna check out what he's said so far."
"Emma, Neal.. Last I was with Mom a doctor said he wasn't all that great but he might get better still. Sorry just when you go I didn't not want to tell you."
"Thanks I needed to check." Leaving for a main floor she asked where her deputy was waiting and if there was any news yet. Rounding the corner of the waiting room for icu Mal looked up from her head in her hands. Her expression said a lot but she needed to hear the words herself. "Mal what is it? How is he?"
"I'm sorry Em. The doctor just came to tell me. He was still bleeding out somewhere after they closed him. They tried everything. He's..Neal is gone." Falling to her knees she felt her heart break for Henry. She felt deep down in her closed off spot of love for Neal ache that she couldn't save him. She felt guilt but more devoted to figuring out why it happened in the first place. Mal took her into her arms and held her on her feet.
"This will pass I've got you."
"Regina." She mumbles this into her deputy's firm grip before getting herself under control and straightening up. "I need to tell Regina and then Henry. Can you make sure Mulan is fine at the station she's still training. Oh and make sure Lily knows we can probably leave Greg here for the night keep the two separated but he's done from me today. Whatever she can get out of him for now will do."
"Of course. I'll be by later with your mother we will be there for the three of you okay." Nodding Emma leaves the hospital in a cloud just like she came. It was time to face the Queen. Emma knew with how long she had been gone and how Regina was before she left that she would be furious. Which she was the moment Emma knocked on her office door it flung. She made the effort to arrive as normal through the front entrance and talk to the assistant to make sure she was free but ultimately there was no reason she didn't expect this derailed facial expression.
"Hi." She said quietly. Regina pulled her in and slammed her office door behind them.
"That's it, 'Hi' I really think a few more words are necessary Miss Swan." Being called this after all this time she gulps seeing the existent of her own situation now.
"No I just felt bad for scaring you before. I had a reason." She started explaining watching Regina drop her defensive posture. Gradually she made her way through everything. This made Regina take a spot next to Emma on the couch and really comfort her. Neal was her first love and if Regina knew anything about this whole strange ordeal is that losing your first love was terribly heart breaking. Even if she didn't love him the way she loved her the pain was unlike any other.
"Henry is getting of school early we have to tell him. We have to give him time with this." Emma agrees and they leave through the front once Regina is packed and ready. The assistant clears her next few days of meetings giving Regina the ability to work from home. This wasn't going to be easy and might even hurtle things in unknown directions. Henry was much to young to lose someone let alone some one as important as a parental figure. Sperm donor or not he was who Henry saw as a father.
