Surprise
I expected risks and danger,
When I joined the Guv'nor's lineup;
And, in time, I got to know
The Stalag cooler inside out.
And I knew my hard earned skill set
Which had shown its worth in Stepney,
Would prove useful;
And the reason I was picked,
I have no doubt.
But...
Something else surprised me,
As we dodged and ducked disaster,
And we tried to follow orders
Which we hoped might win the war;
Those who played their part beside me,
Grew from random fellow prisoners,
To a close knit band of brothers
I would take a bullet for.
