Chapter 29: Tourist Trap

Now that Matthew had Xylene back in his life, he had decided that the best way for her to reconnect with the family was on a family vacation.
On the road in Rook's RV, Matthew and Seth were at the front while Mary was looking at the map and Drake was in the back on his phone.
"It's been a long time since we've gone on a vacation." Seth said.
"Yeah I'm glad we have the whole family here this time." Matthew said.
On his phone, Drake was talking to the ghouls via video chat.
"So you ghouls are sure you can handle any lost monsters while I'm away? Because I can go XLR8 and be there in no time." Drake said.
"Don't worry Drake we got this." Draculaura said.
"Yeah trust us, you just have fun with your family." Frankie said.
"And bring me back a souvenir." Cleo said.
"Sure thing Cleo." Drake chuckles when the door opens.
"This new form is taking some getting used to." Walking out Drake sees Xylene's new human disguise. With help from the ghouls, Xylene's ID mask helped her take the form of an elderly woman but with white and light blue hair in a bobcut, a long-sleeved green shirt under a purple shirt and dark blue pants.
"Wow Clawdeen, that outfit worked out great." Draculaura said as Xylene noticed them.
"Are you sure this is what humans wear?" Xylene asks.
"Trust me, you look like the coolest grandma in the world right now." Clawdeen assures.
"What do you think Drake?" Xylene asks looking at him.
"It's alright I guess." Drake said.
Even though Drake and Xylene were slowly trying to work things out but right now things were still a little awkward between them.
"Hey everyone we're almost there." Matthew calls out.
"Where exactly is here? You haven't exactly said where we're going?" Mary asks.
"Have a look we're almost there." Matthew said as they looked to see a sign up ahead.
"You'll have a ball with It. Next Exit." Drake read.
"What's it?" Seth asks.
"You'll just have to wait and see." Matthew said as they pulled up in a small mundane town filled with various attractions and stores. "Welcome to Sparksville."
"Oh wow." Drake cringed.
"Quite the cute little town." Seth said as he and Mary seemed to like it.
"Quiet, peaceful and fun." Mary said.
"See? What could be better than the world's largest fishbowl?" Matthew asks gesturing to the giant bowl.
"Perhaps the fish that bowl belonged to." Xylene said when a Caucasian man with pale skin and brown hair in a white suit walks up to them. This was Earl.
"As the mayor of Sparksville, I welcome you, as seekers of wonder." Earl said in a monotone voice.
"Why don't you all go do some sight seeing. I'll check us in." Matthew smiles.
"Come on Drake." Seth said as Drake followed his parents.
"Uh perhaps I should go with you Matthew." Xylene said about to follow him.
"Don't worry, Xylene go enjoy your first vacation with the family." Matthew said.
"If you say so." Xylene said following after them.
At a booth, they approach the counter only to see Earl was there.
"Tickets please." Earl said.
"Wait, aren't you the mayor?" Drake asks.
"He who wears the crown is burdened by many hats, son." Earl said taking the tickets.
"Translation, not many workers." Mary whispers.
"Mind the signs." Earl said as they entered.
Soon multiple pictures were being taken.
One had Xylene looking at the Jackalope with interest as if it was an alien with Drake rolling his eyes.
The next had Mary and Seth in front of a giant house of cards.
In the planetarium, we see a picture of Xylene pointing out planets and coordinates to them and even one of her correcting the Astronomer much to her family's embarrassment.
Finally, they all arrived at the sight of IT.
"Through these doors lies the weirdest, wildest thing ever to find its way to Sparksville." Earl said as they entered and saw many signs.
"Do not touch it." Seth read.
"Do not photograph IT." Mary said.
"Do not use batteries or electrical equipment anywhere near IT." Drake read.
"Whatever IT is must be pretty amazing." Xylene said as the light turns on and they see IT is a giant rubber band ball.
"That's IT?" Drake raised an eyebrow.
"A giant rubber band ball." Seth said.
"And who knows what secrets lie within." Earl said.
"Well it is pretty big." Mary said.
"Stay as long as you like. Mind the signs." Earl said walking out.
"Mom, Dad next time we pick the vacation." Drake said.
"I'll admit, this is a bit of a letdown." Seth said.
"All that excitement for a giant ball?" Xylene asks as Drake walks up to examine it. "Drake don't touch it."
"I won't I swear." Drake said but when he stepped away he trips and as he falls back his Omnitrix hand touches IT causing small sparks to enter the giant ball and making the Omnitrix glow for a few seconds.
"Phew, that was close." Drake said looking to see everything was fine.
"Why don't we go find your grandfather? Maybe there are other things to see here." Mary said as they walked out.
Little did they know, from the giant rubber band ball a spark of electricity shot out before taking form revealing a small yellow creature shaped like a battery with electricity coming from it.
As the creature drew power from the signs it laughs maniacally before blasting a giant hole in the exhibit.
The next morning, everyone woke up to find the town totally trashed.
"Whoa what happened here?" Drake asks.
"Was there an accident while we were asleep?" Mary asks.
"I don't know. Looks like a tornado tore through here overnight." Matthew said.
"I think we would have noticed a tornado." Seth said as the townspeople came out to see the damage.
"I think it's pretty clear who's responsible for these juvenile acts." Earl said.
"Juvenile?" Xylene said before looking to Drake.
"Oh sure, blame the only teenager here, thanks a lot." Drake said.
"Oh I'm not talking about this youngster. I'm talking about something worse." Earl said.
"Like what?" Matthew asks when the little battery creature flew in behind them and made silly poses and faces at them.
"What in the?" Drake said as the creature sticks its tongue out at him before flying away.
"Oh no, not those things." Xylene cringed.
"What was that?" Seth asks.
"A Megawhatt." Earl said.
"Mega what?" Drake asks.
"Exactly, normally wrapped up tight inside IT. Until last night. Some say might be a ball of lightning come alive. Others think it's static cling run amok. Tough to say." Earl said.
"Maybe a monster." Drake suggests.
"No it's an alien." Xylene corrects.
"Monsters? Aliens? That's just plain kooky talk." Earl said when the Megawhatt noticed a soda machine and enters it.
"What's it doing now?" Drake asks.
"It eats electricity. The more it gobbles, the more powerful it gets." Earl explains when soda cans came shooting out. "It also has a dangerous sense of humor."
Ducking for cover all of them ran behind a car.
"Guess that explains the rubber band ball. Rubber doesn't conduct electricity." Seth said.
"You left that thing inside a rubber-band ball all this time? Isn't that kind of dangerous?" Matthew asks.
"Not as long as people minded the signs." Earl said.
"But that doesn't make sense, we didn't have any electric devices near—" Drake said before looking down at his watch.
"Drake you tripped and your hand touched IT." Mary recalls.
"You touched it with that hand didn't you?" Xylene asks pointing to the Omnitrix.
"Mr. Mayor, how do we stop this thing?" Matthew asks.
"What do you mean we? You let it out, you catch it." Earl said walking away.
Soon the town cleared away as the Rogers family was walking through the streets.
"Some family vacation this turned out to be." Mary said.
"This place seemed fun, but I don't see us coming back here." Matthew said.
"Sound like you know what that was, care to explain Mom?" Seth asks.
"It was a Nosedeenian. They're sneaky, mischievous little pests who love messing with people for their own amusement. How one ended up here is a mystery." Xylene said.
Up on the phone cables, the Megawatt snuck down towards Matthew and gave him a wedgie.
"Aaagh! That's not funny! That's just painful!" Matthew cringed.
"Hang on grandpa." Drake said going for the Omnitrix. "I bet Upgrade will fix this."
However before Drake could go for it, the Megawatt fired a shock of electricity zapping Drake causing the Omnitrix to glow bright and suddenly in a flash of blue light Drake transformed into a blue jellyfish like alien with white swipes resembling lightning streaks.
"What the heck is this?" He asks looking at himself.
"An Amperi?" Xylene gasps.
"What's this one do?" He asks when the Megawhatt fired electricity at him. Holding up his tentacles this new alien fired its own electric attack canceling it out. "Sweet, I'm gonna call this one AmpFibian."
Flying around the Megawatt laughs at him, before flying around trying to mess with him.
"Oh no you don't!" Flying in AmpFibian chases after the Megawatt as both clashed electricity.
"Xylene, you better help him." Matthew said.
"Good idea." Reaching up Xylene takes off her ID mas to reveal her alien form.
As both electric aliens flew around, sparks flew as AmpFibian tried grabbing the Megawhatt in his tentacles but it escaped.
"Hold still you!" AmpFibian said when Xylene rushes in hurls rubber bands from IT at it.
"Get back inside you little pest!" Xylene said as the Megawhatt flew around to dodge and AmpFibian narrowly dodges as well.
"Whoa watch it Grandma! We want to lock that thing up, not me!" AmpFibian said.
"Sorry Drake." Xylene said as she moved in to help him lock it up.
"Is it just me, or is there a lot of excitement today?" Earl asks eating popcorn.
"How are we going to that electric devil?" Matthew asks when Mary gets an idea.
"Easy, a lightning rod." Mary grins.
"Mary, you're a genius." Seth smiles.
Flying around AmpFibian dodges the Megawhatt's attacks before ramming it into the wall.
"Ha! Not so funny now is it?" AmpFibian mocks when the Megawhatt leaps out and grabs onto his face.
"Hey get off me!" AmpFibian said trying to shake him off but when the Megawhatt lets go AmpFibian ends up smashing right into a stop sign. "Ugh this thing makes the Werepups look like little angels."
Pointing and laughing the Megawhatt held his sides at Drake's pain before flying in.
"Hands off my grandson!" Xylene said using her powers to throw a sewer lid and ends up slicing it in half.
"Whoa nice throw." AmpFibian said when the two halfs combine making two Megawatts. "I take it back."
"Whoops. I forgot they do that." Xylene cringed when the Omnitrix logo beeps causing him to turn back into Drake.
"One of these days you and I need to work on fixing this thing's stupid timer." Drake groans.
"Agreed." Xylene gulps as both Megawhatts moved in when suddenly they heard a horn honking.
Driving a truck carrying the world's largest thermometer, Seth and Mary pull up in front of them.
"Get in." Seth said as they got in and drove away.
"Mom, dad, what are you doing?" Drake asks.
"Giving this alien a science lesson." Seth said as he changes gears causing the thermometer to drop and the two Megawatts ended up going inside it.
"Using this giant thermometer as a lightning rod, those two won't be going anywhere." Mary smiles proudly.
"Award-winning science couple right here, sweetie." Matthew smiles.
"Impressive." Xylene said as Earl walks over.
"Not a bad idea, course the ground is just one big conductor." Earl said.
"What does that mean?" Drake asks.
"Oh no, it means the Megawhatts are just zipping around underground until they find some way to get back to the surface." Mary said when various telephones started to ring.
"They're in the underground phone lines." Seth gulps when suddenly a dozen Megawatts flew out of the ground and caused havoc all over.
"It's official, I hate this place." Drake groans.
"Agreed." Xylene groans.
Landing atop a giant hot dog, the Megawhatts released a sonic scream causing the glass containing the world's biggest toothpicks to fly out.
"Incoming!" Matthew yells as Xylene uses her powers to stop them from piercing everyone.
"There goes the world's largest toothpicks. Oh, the humanity." Earl said eating his popcorn.
As one Megawhatt seemed to be issuing commands all the other Megawhatts seemed to be following him before they all zipped away.
"Where'd they go?" Mary gulps.
"I don't know but it can't be good." Matthew said when suddenly the exhibit from the Planetarium came to life.
"Ugh that structure is still wrong. Pluto shouldn't even be on that thing, it isn't even a planet anymore." Xylene crosses her arms.
"Not the time mom." Seth said.
"Come on if we hurry we can cut it off in the—" Before Matthew could finish they saw the RV had all of its tires taken off and had U AM LAME spray painted on the side.
"Talk about bad grammar." Mary said as the teacher part of her was showing.
"I reckon they'll head for the big hydroelectric dam to power up. After that, they'll just wipe out the next town and so on and son on. They think it's funny. Yup. Megawhatts got a real twisted sense of humor." Earl said.
"We need a way to contain those things." Drake said when he noticed the world's largest fish bowl.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Xylene smiles.
At the dam, the humanoid planetarium was smashing against the dam when Drake and Xylene were atop it.
"Okay please give me something." Drake said slamming down on the watch but when the static went off causing Drake to turn into a yellow and black muscular sasquatch like alien with the Omnitrix logo on a blue belt appeared.
"What the heck? What's going on?" He said in a Canadian accent.
"The Megawhatts must have done something to the Omnitrix making you only get electric aliens." Xylene said.
"It'll have to do for now. Hey Megarunts!" He yells zapping the Planetarium causing it to stagger back. "Let's see how you guys like messing with Shocksquatch!"
The Planetarium was about to smash a hole in the dam when Xylene's eyes glowed ripping the planets off its arms.
"Bad children don't get their toys." Xylene declares as both leap down and kick the Planetarium sending it crashing to the ground.
Near the turbines, Mary, Seth and Matthew ere pushing a tarp covered object into position.
With sparks covering Shocksquatch's fist, he blocks the Planetarium's attack before swinging it around and sending it tumbling to the ground.
Grabbing some hoses, Xylene blasts the planetarium causing it to short circuit before turning to her.
"Not so funny when it's you, is it?" Xylene asks as the Planetarium swings its arm but Xylene flies out of the way before it hit.
"What's a matter? Can't take a joke?" Leaping in Shocksquatch punches the planetarium smashing it to pieces.
As the planets tumbled everywhere all the Megawhatts glared him down.
"Grandma, I don't suppose you know any more cool tricks for this thing?" Shocksquatch asks.
"As a matter of fact, I do." Moving in Xylene smacks the Omnitrix logo causing a blue light to engulf him and when it did a blue Megawhatt with the Omnitrix logo on its chest appeared in Shocksquatch's place.
"Whoa check me out. I'm a Meagwhatt now." He said.
"Now let's see how they like being mocks." Xylene smirks.
Hearing this he grins before flying up to them. "Hey check me out losers, the name's Buzzshock and I'm cooler than all your losers put together! Nah nah nah nah." He teases causing the Megawhatts to growl and fly after him.
Flying down Buzzshock lead them to a giant tarp before going under with the Megwhatts right behind him.
"They did it, they took the bait." Seth said as he pulled down the tarp revealing all the Megwhatts inside the giant fishbowl.
"Grandpa, you're on." Buzzshock said as Matthew sealed the top with a flamethrower trapping them all inside.
"With non-conductive glass sealed up tight, sparky and his pals won't be going anywhere." Mary smiles.
"Genius." Matthew smiles.
Back in town, the workers were getting all the damages fixed up.
"You folks done right by us." Earl said.
"Hope this adventure wasn't too much of a setback." Matthew said.
"More like a giant step forward. What, with our new attraction, soon we'll be raking 'em in." Earl pulls down a tarp revealing a giant light bulb. "The world's biggest light bulb. A real humdinger.
Looking inside they see the whole thing was powered by the Megawhatts trapped inside it.
"Will they be stuck in there?" Seth asks.
"So long as folks mind the signs." Earl said pointing to one.
"In case of Emergency do not break glass." Mary read.
Shrugging the three adults walk back to the RV.
"Guess this family vacation wasn't what you thought it would be huh, dad?" Seth asks.
"Actually, I think it worked out better." Matthew said.
"How so?" Mary asks as Matthew points to the stairs as Xylene in her human disguise was sitting down with Drake fixing the Omnitrix.
"Alright, this should give you back control of this and not just the electric type aliens." Xylene said putting the finishing touches on.
"Thanks Grandma." Drake smiles. "You and I made a pretty good team out there today."
"Yes, we really did." Xylene smiles.
"Nothing brings people closer together than fighting evil aliens." Matthew smiles seeing Drake and Xylene smile and laugh.
This vacation wasn't what they planned but it led to exactly what Matthew wanted to bring his family closer together.
