Chapter 29: Board the Sealed Train
A disguised Zolder watched as a freight train passed by his location. He got out a two-way radio to contact his superiors. "The mysterious Train has entered the empire." A Zolder on the other end responded. "Copy that." The tracks were switched so that the train was redirected. This was no train-jacking. The train was actually requisitioned for a secret assignment for the Black Cross Army. Zolders had replaced several train yard personnel for this operation. The train was in the middle of transporting some of the highest level members in Black Cross. They were known as the Iron Army's Cobalt Squadron, a troop of secret commandos.
Meanwhile at an EAGLE command base, a notable scientist was showing off his latest project. "This is our new high-tech computer, Super X. It has one-thousand time more processing power than previous models." The scientist pointed to the top of the computer. "This is the mechanical brain circuit. Not even Nobel Prize winners could recreate this! Now I will proceed to the Super X." The Super X was turned on. "Danger! Danger!," it said in a synthesized voice, "Unknown enemy approaching!" The scientist and assembled watchers were stunned. "What's dangerous, Super X?"
"Unknown enemy approaching!," Super X repeated. "But this is an EAGLE research institute," the scientist pointed out, "It's crawling with armed guards and even has the Gorengers for protection!" Just then, a dark blue smoke leaked into the room, choking out everyone in the room. "Hydrocyanic acid gas detected!," Super X called out, perhaps a little too late, "Danger! You must leave!" The scientist hit the emergency alarm, getting Yugi, Ichigo, and Medaka's attention. "Professor?," Yugi called out, "What happened?" Jotaro ran up as well. "What's happening?" "Something happening inside the room," Medaka replied, "But we can't get hold of anyone inside."
Ichigo then noticed the padlock. "Wait, why is this door locked? And where did this padlock come from?" Inside the room the gas was dispersed, allowing the Cobalt Squadron to enter without issue via a hidden trapdoor. They quickly grabbed the Super X and made off with it. Outside, Medaka was trying to pick the lock. "No good. This thing doesn't have normal tumblers." Yugi then sensed something. "Quick, away from the door!" The team leapt back as an explosion tore the door open. The team ran inside, only to find everyone dead and the Super X missing. "Good grief, what happened in here!?," Jotaro called out. "I dunno," Ichigo said, "But whatever caused it was after the Super X."
Yugi quickly found the trapdoor and opened it. "I think they left through here. Let's follow them." The four Gorengers quickly ran down the stairs and outside, where they ran into a caped figure with a door and padlock on its cage-like head. "Hold it right there!," the figure called out. "The Black Cross Army," Yugi realized, "Only you would be bold enough to steal from EAGLE." "Indeed," the figure replied, "You may call me Door Mask. I will not let you past." "That's not your choice to make!," Yugi declared. He walked up to confront Door Mask, dodging his staff attacks and punching him hard in the head. The others quickly joined in, but Door Mask proved a tough opponent.
Quickly the team activated their Ranger Buckles. "Go!" Now faced with four transformed Gorengers, Door Mask growled and retreated to a blue box covered in playing card suit symbols. Midorenger opened it, only to find it empty. The team checked inside, only for the door to close once Akarenger was in. Somehow Door Mask had warped outside, and was now padlocking the door to the box. "Talk about idiotic! Who walks into an obviously empty box just to make sure it's empty!? Now you'll never get out of there! You've already seen how powerful my padlock is! And inside that box is a time bomb! In one minute, you'll all die! Something you should be aware of... I happen to be quite good at magic tricks. This is one of my favorites, the old 'escape from the box' trick. Farewell, Gorengers!"
He walked off, thinking he was victorious. "Now what?," Kirenger asked. Akarenger took a listen. The ticking seemed to be coming from the padlock itself. "Everyone get back." He called out his Red Bute and transformed it. "Spear Bute!" Taking his spear, he started making holes in the ceiling. Soon enough he made a rather big one. "Ki, use your Birdie!" "Leave it to me!," Kirenger replied, "Birdie!" His jetpack activated. "Megaton Head-butt!" He easily flew out of the box, Midorenger and Momorenger following suit. However, as Momorenger flew out, the box tipped over to its ceiling, trapping Akarenger inside. "Crap!," he called out.
The others hurried over. "Not good!," Momorenger said, "The force of the Birdies must have made it fall over!" "And there's no time to try and get him out!," Midorenger realized. "Just get out of the blast radius!," Akarenger called out, "I can find a way out! Right now recovery of the Super X is more important!" The team was reluctant, but quickly hurried off. Akarenger nodded. "Drill Bute!" His Spear Bute transformed into a long drill, which he quickly plowed into the ground where the hole was. As the Gorengers hurried, they suddenly heard the box exploding. "Damn...," Kirenger muttered. "We still need to finish the mission," Momorenger pointed out. Midorenger nodded. "We won't let our leader down!"
Meanwhile, Door Mask was overseeing the Super X as it was loaded onto the train. Once the door was closed, he sealed it with another padlock. "Good. Now no one can steal the Super X from me. One of my favorite tricks, the Sealed Train! Now, all aboard!" The train set off at once. Elsewhere Jotaro and Ichigo were driving the Blue and Green Machines, Medaka riding with Ichigo. Deep inside the Black Cross Army's main base, Iron Man Mask General Temujin met with the Black Cross Fuhrer. "Phase One of our operation was a complete success." Black Cross Fuhrer nodded. "Excellent. What is the second phase of your plan?"
Temujin turned to a picture of the Earth. "As we speak, thousands of rockets and satellites launched by foreign countries orbit the planet. We lost count at around three-thousand, and we know there are more than that. So, we will use the stolen computer technology to drop all of those rockets and satellites right onto Tokyo!" Black Cross Fuhrer watched the demonstration. "The city would become hell on earth as every human in the area dies." He smiled behind his cowl, imagining the devastation that would be at work. "It's a brilliant plan, Temujin! Just the thought of it makes me shiver with excitement! Only you could come up with such a fiendish idea, and using the newly created Super X!"
"I am honored by your words," Temujin said, "But I ask for patience in this operation. As we speak, the train carrying the stolen Super X is on its way here. I have Door Mask, one of my most crafty subordinates, in charge of the transportation." "Door Mask, you say?," Black Cross Fuhrer noted, "A wise choice. The Gorengers will certainly be stymied by his capabilities. Very well. If I must only wait for the duration of a train ride, then my patience can be extended. And perhaps we can even use the Super X to our advantage in this case…"
As the Gorengers continued to ride along the road, Medaka looked behind her and was surprised. "Yugi!" Sure enough, Yugi had successfully escaped from the exploding box and was now riding behind the team on the Red Machine. "Sorry to have worried you all!," he said. "Not at all!," Jotaro replied, "I had a feeling you'd make it out alive!" Ichigo grinned. "Heh, now I'm feeling pumped! Time to take back the Super X and rip Door Mask off his own hinges!" Yugi nodded and activated his wrist communicator. "This is Yugi. Yusuke, we need aerial assistance!" 'Leave it to me,' Yusuke replied, 'I'll swing by in the Variblune.' Variblune was quickly launched from its loading bay and heading for the team's location.
As the team closed in on the train, Zolders appeared on the nearby hills carrying spear launchers. The shots caused the team to stop as the Zolders leapt down to engage in combat. "We got this, Yugi!," Jotaro called out, "Get to that train!" Yugi nodded as the team activated their Ranger Buckles. "Go!" The Red and Green Machines sped off while Kirenger started taking out the Zolders that tried to follow. "Oh no! You are not going after them!" He smacked two Zolders' heads together to prove his point. Passing under a bridge, Midorenger and Momorenger found themselves caught up in a bunch of nets dropped by more Zolders. In spite of their predicament, they kept the Zolders at bay so that Akarenger could keep pursuing the train.
"Only two more hours until the Sealed Train arrives," Temujin noted. "Wonderful," Black Cross Fuhrer said, "I wish to see the Super X soon. See if you can get them to come faster!" However, a sudden complication came up on the train. "Danger! Danger!," Super X called out, "Unidentified flying object on approach!" "What!?," Door Mask said in shock as he looked skyward, spotting the Variblune as it closed in. "Annoying scum… Shoot it down!" The turrets on the train were aimed at Variblune and fired, but the shots merely bounced off the reinforced hull. "Sorry," Yusuke said with a grin, "But you'll something with a higher caliber. Now to bring up the train. Activate Rescue Hand!"
As the Variblune lowered its vacuum tube, the Super X spoke up again. "Emergency! Defense plan 357 suggested! Self-defense radio wave at 40 MHZ!" The radio wave started causing the Variblune's sensors to go haywire. "Crap!," Yusuke called out, "I can't keep her under control like this!" He managed to pull back, causing Door Mask to laugh. "That's right, run! So long as the Super X is under our control, there's no way you can get close enough to stop us!" He turned to his unit. "See if you can punch up the speed a bit more. The Fuhrer wants us back a little ahead of schedule."
"What's going on, Yusuke?," Kirenger said, "I just saw you going out of control there." 'Variblune can't fly near the train,' Yusuke replied, 'The Super X's defense radio wave is scrambling the controls.' "Why would it do that?," Midorenger asked, "The Super X was made for peace! It's meant to save the world!" 'It's still only a computer,' Yusuke pointed out, 'It can't tell the difference between good and evil, only peace and hostility.' "Looks like it's all up to Yugi," Kirenger noted, "He's our only shot at reaching the Super X without it going off."
The whole time Akarenger had been weaving in and out of various roadblock set up by Black Cross to try and slow him down. 'We just learned some important information,' Edogawa called in, 'If the Super X isn't kept at 18 degrees Celsius, it will start to behave oddly.' That caught the Gorengers' attention. Indeed, the Cobalt Unit was finding out just what Edogawa was talking about. "35 degrees Celsius…," Super X called out, "36 degrees Celsius… 37 degrees Celsius… Temperature is rising beyond normal parameters! Danger! Danger! Bring temperature down at once!"
Momorenger got out a scanner. "I've got Super X's radio signature." 'There is a clock that will not tell you the time,' Super X said over the scanner, 'In winter, it becomes short. In summer, it becomes tall. If you can't solve this, then you are stupid.' "What a cheeky computer," Kirenger noted, "But this must be what Edogawa was talking about. For the record, the answer is a thermometer." 'Smart for a human,' Super X chimed in, 'Please chill my head. I want a fan. I need to cool down.' "I can't believe Black Cross didn't consider the need to keep the computer cool," Momorenger said.
"It looks like Super X is complete broken," Yusuke noted, "What do we do now, Boss?" 'I'm not sure,' Edogawa replied, 'At this point Super X has become unpredictable. Medaka, I'll need you to modify the Gorenger Storm.' "Copy that," Momorenger replied. Back on the train, the Cobalt Unit was at a loss as to what to do, only able to try fanning the computer as it continued to heat up. "Limit reached, limit reached," Super X chanted, "Protect the mechanical brain." Sparks started to come up within the computer. "Door Mask!," one of the unit called out, "It's gonna blow! Protect yourself!"
But Door Mask was distracted by the sight of Akarenger as he started to pull up alongside the train. "Damn! He survived somehow!" Akarenger leapt onto the train engine and shut it down. "Now your Sealed Train can't move anymore!," Akarenger declared. "Bastard!," Door Mask growled, "I'll see you dead!" The Cobalt Unit made to attack, but Akarenger was able to take them out one by one. Unfortunately, he couldn't get through the padlock on the door. "You fool!," Door Mask called out, "It's impossible to break my padlock open!" Akarenger scoffed. "If the door's not an option, then I'll try the roof." He leapt up, and Door Mask jumped to intercept him.
As the two fought on the roof, Super X called out, "Energy circuit will explode in ten seconds!" The Zolders still inside banged on the door. "Door Mask! Let us out, please!" Outside, Akarenger activated his special tool. "Drill Bute!" Cutting a hole into the roof, he aimed his fist. "Akarenger Punch!" The fierce blow collapsed the roof, sending Door Mask tumbling into the train car. Unfortunately, that's when the Super X exploded, which worried the team. "I've already finished modifying the Gorenger Storm," Momorenger said. 'Good work!,' Edogawa replied, 'Gorengers, move in!'
Temujin had arrived at the train, concerned that it had stalled. "Open the door," he ordered. His personal guard moved to comply, using a special key to unlock Door Mask's padlock. Inside, Yugi and Door Mask had been knocked out by the blast. The Super X was trashed, but the mechanical brain was still intact. "Thanks goodness!," Temujin said in relief, "It looks like we can salvage the operation! Take Moto to the train tracks!" As Yugi was placed on the tracks, he stirred awake. "So you're awake," Temujin said, "I might as well tell you before you die, Super X's brain is still alive. Door Mask will be carrying it now. I remodeled his head to act as a cooler."
He opened the door on Door Mask's face to insert the brain. "A mechanical brain can live forever it it's cool enough." Once the installation was complete, Temujin woke up Door Mask. "You have an execution to carry out right now." Door Mask got up and picked up his key staff. "Of course. Once I'm done I'll return to the fortress. Akarenger, Yugi Moto! Among the Iron Army, you have murdered Shot Mask, Gear Mask, Wire Mask, Razor Mask, Lamprey Mask, Blue Vein Mask, and many others!" "All of which were attacking and killing innocent people," Yugi pointed out, "Should your own forces be tried by our court system? I have only killed soldiers, not murdered. And this is no true execution, just a glorified murder plot." "Silence!," Door Mask called out, "Our word is law! Show him what his fate is!"
The unconscious Zolders were brought out onto the tracks as well. "Those that failed their security assignment will be executed as well." "Now see," Yugi chimed in, "That counts as an execution." "Shut him up already!," Temujin demanded. Door Mask nodded. "Start the train!" The train moved in fast, killing the first of the Zolders. "Hold on!," Yugi called out, "I'd like to make a last request!" Door Mask turned to Temujin, who nodded. "Stop the train!" The train stopped right before it could reach Yugi. "We'll hear you out," Door Mask allowed. "I'd prefer to be blindfolded for this," Yugi said, "It's an old tradition for those sentenced to death."
Door Mask laughed. "I never took you for such a coward, Akarenger. But I see no problems with granting your request." Yugi was stood up. "Thank you. There's a handkerchief in my pocket that you can use." Door Mask pulled out the handkerchief, only to be shocked when it turned into a pigeon. Yugi laughed at the confusion. "I'm pretty good at magic tricks myself! I was able to escape your box earlier because I saw right through your little escape trick! In fact… I'd say I'm better at magic tricks than you!" Door Mask then realized that the pigeon was flying off, catching the attention of the other Gorengers. Kirenger spotted it first. "Looks like Yugi's in trouble! Follow that bird!"
Back with Yugi, he smirked. "Now for my next trick, I'll pull a sword and rope right out of my mouth!" "That's impossible!," Door Mask stated, "I'm the best in the world at magic tricks. But… Fine, show me!" Yugi opened his mouth wide, and Door Mask saw something inside it. He pulled at it, and was shocked to see an entire rope made of tied handkerchiefs flying out of Yugi's mouth. It was a long one, too, so long it actually started to tie up Door Mask, Yugi laughing the entire time. "Looks like I tricked you good!," Yugi said with a laugh, seeing how ridiculous Door Mask now looked. He proceeded to shoulder bash Door Mask around.
Suddenly, Door Mask got run over by the Blue Machine as Kirenger rode up. "Whoops! I think I hit a speed bump!" The impact brought the Super X's mechanical brain to life, causing serious pain to Door Mask. While he was distracted, the other Gorengers ran over to Yugi. "You okay, Yugi?," Midorenger asked. "I'll be fine," Yugi assured him, "But something seems up with Door Mask." Temujin hurried over. "Door Mask, what's wrong with you?" "My head feels like it's going to explode!," Door Mask complained. As it turned out, the impact from the Blue Machine caused Super X's brain to be transferred onto Door Mask. As the Iron Army guards tried to get him under control, he thrashed them to the ground. "Super X is invincible! Super X will fight using Door Mask's body!"
"Damn!," Temujin called out, "The operation's a wash in this state!" Door Mask then ran right through the Gorengers, knocking them to the ground. "He's out of control!," Yugi realized. He quickly activated his Ranger Buckle. "Go!" Aorenger flew down using his Birdie as the team surrounded Door Mask. "Akarenger!" "Aorenger!" "Kirenger!" "Momorenger!" "Midorenger!" "The five assembled!" "Gorenger!" "Come at me! Come at me!," Door Mask chanted, swinging his staff wildly. Now fused with the Super X, Door Mask's power increased tenfold, enough to put him on par with the Gorengers as they grappled against him.
Hoping to get an edge, the team started bringing out their weapons. "Red Bute!" Akarenger lashed against Door Mask with his whip. Door Mask tanked the blow, using his staff to block Midorenger's Midomerang. Kirenger started grappling against the staff, only for Door Mask to throw him to the ground. "Blue Cherry!" Aorenger fired off a few shots, only for Door Mask to block them. "When are you going to do the Gorenger Storm?," Door Mask demanded. "Well, he asked for it," Akarenger decided, "Team, Gorenger Storm New Power Operation!" Door Mask started charging at them. "Come at me! Come at me!" The team got into formation as Momorenger got out the modified Storm Ball, one side colored in green, blue, yellow, and red stripes.
"Gorenger Storm Double Power! Ki!" As the Storm Ball was kicked at Kirenger, it quickly became two balls. "Ao and Mido!" Kirenger punched the two balls at Aorenger and Midorenger. The two Gorengers kicked the twin balls back and forth, confusing Door Mask. As the Storm Ball fully charged, Akarenger leapt up to deliver the final attack. "Double Finish!" With Super X's mechanical brain unable to keep track of two flying objects at once, the twin Gorenger Storms struck Door Mask, annihilating him in a massive explosion. Despite the loss of the Super X, it was a win for the Gorengers, who rode off to the happy cheers of children who saw them passing. But the Gorengers knew that the Black Cross Army would try again soon, and they would have to be ready.
To be continued...
See, this is why we can't have nice things. But oh well. Still working on my computer issues. I'm planning on getting a new laptop, but in the meantime most of my internet is on my gaming console, or the library. Hopefully I'll have a more permanent solution before long. Read and review.
