8th Century Europe.

Somewhere in Wales.

"Please Collen! I beg of you, do not let hatred rule your heart!"

Brannock Cadwallader begged the high warlock of the Welsh Clans who turned his back on his second in command, eyes aflame with anger.

The skies were blue and both stood at a beautiful field at the home of The Cadwallader family.

"Quiet Brannock! Humans have treated our kind so much like pigs for the slaughter! Burned our people on the stake, sacrificed ours for useless causes! Never again! It will stop once we have enough power to rule against them!"

Collen turns to Brannock, his jet black long hair whipping in the wind and his dark eyes filled with malice.

"Your Clan should join us! If it does, we will have a number of the factions under yours with mine. We will be more than enough to enslave the pitiful humans of Wales. Join me brother, and we will unleash our pain against them."

Brannock looked away, pain in his eyes as he stared at his old friend.

"Collen, what has gotten into you? I know you've always disregarded the humans since we were but boys… but this is going too far!"

Brannock urged his friend as his blonde hair whipped in the wind.

Collen scoffed, looking at Brannock unimpressed.

"Then you must be blind, not to have noticed this is who I have always been. I am Collen, high priest and head of the Harkness witches and warlocks. Our family has reigned this lands for centuries. Our power, innumerable and above others, even your own clan Brannock. Do not let our waning friendship end like this."

He warned but Brannock shook his head resolutely.

"It seems we cannot come to a conclusion old friend, but—"

Before he could continue, a loud boom disrupted their conversation and the two men in their late 60s stumbled slightly as a tremor shook the ground.

After it stopped and the dust around the settled, their eyes widened, as just in front of them, laid the most beautiful stone they had ever seen, floating and humming of absolute magic.

It was a red color mixed with gold.It radiated energy… so much energy, that it made the men strain so as not to fall to their knees.

"What could this be?"

Brannock wondered and Collen's eyes narrowed as he breathed in and the magic he smelt, felt like magic never before seen.

Power… buried inside such a tiny and insignificant rock.

If he could have such a power… the humans would stand no chance!

Brannock though, thought how beautiful it looked.

As it floated in the air and he could see the aura around it, magic that could harm but also protect.

Magic that was still yet untainted.

Slightly sentient but newborn in a way…

And the chaos stone chose it's protector that day.

March 5

"What do you think of this one?"

Leslie twirled in a dark wine strappy gown that had a mermaid flare from her knees.

Pretty but basic.

Cherith shook her head as she held a dark emerald green gown still on the hanger to her body, looking at it with a full length mirror and Leslie whined.

"Ugh! Mystic Falls really is cramping my style, you know?! We don't have as much varieties as the big cities do."

She grumbled and Cherith snorted, hanging back the gown on the rack.

It was just yesterday that the two friends had taken their little trip to Dunham lake and Leslie was finally back to her usual hyper self.

Prom was in a month and so every senior was all up in their feels about their outfits and what to wear.

Especially those that were hoping to be chosen as part of the prom court and possibly becoming prom king or queen.

Speaking of…

"Hey Leslie!"

Cherith called out to her friend who was removing the gown in a small cubicle nearby.

"Yeah?"

"When will the prom court be announced?"

"It should be this week or the next, I think… I think… Why? Wanna know if your name is nominated?"

She jested and Cherith snorted as she stared at herself in the mirror.

She was in a blue and white striped belted shirt dress, and white sneakers, her hair let down and she realized it had grown even longer than it used to be.

Falling to her butt now that it was let down and it pooled around her, making her stand out with her pale skin and amethyst eyes.

"I'd rather my name not be nominated, knowing a bunch of girls like Mallory would want to run… but hey! If my name does come out… totally understandable."

She playfully boasted and Leslie snorted as she came back out wearing her jean shorts, a yellow fitted crop top and simple brown sandals.

"Well I won't actually be surprised if your name is in the prom court. A lot of people are pretty much obsessed with you right now."

Cherith snorted as she grabbed her bag and walked out.

"Well they should keep their greasy pores away from me. I know prom is a time to lose your virginity and all, if you still have it, but no one in our year makes me even want to tap."

"Mark my words Cherith Gilbert, you'll find that someone soon enough that you can't seem to stay away from and in a snap… bye bye virgin ass!"

Cherith laughed as they walked around the Mall for a while.

"Think we'll find any great outfit in this town?"

Leslie snorted.

"Please! We'll only be deceiving ourselves. I can guarantee that a bunch of us will either be going out of town to get something nice or order online."

Cherith nodded thoughtfully.

"Hm… not a bad idea."

"Which one?"

"Ordering online. There are a bunch of designers that caught my eye."

"Oof! Perks of being a rich brat!"

Cherith brought out her tongue at her.

"Lets head on to the café just opposite, I'm hungry for some pie."

Leslie snorted.

"Bottomless pit."

"Shut. Up. Besides… if my name does end up as part of the prom court, I need to look my fucking best! Like the queen I so obviously am!"

Leslie shook her head about to walk out the Mall when a voice called out.

"Sorry! Excuse me!"

The two friends turned startled as they watched a lady in her late twenties or so run over to them.

She didn't look like a resident of Mystic Falls too. Her super curly blonde hair bounced as she rushed over to them and her dark grey eyes brightened as she reached them.

"Sorry for stopping you. Hi! My name is Amelia Banks. I'm a—"

"Professional photographer."

Cherith added, slightly surprised as she recognized the woman in front of her which surprised both Leslie and Amelia herself who grinned.

"Oh! You know me?"

Cherith shrugged.

"Kind of hard not to. My aunt is an avid history buff… well her boyfriend is, so we have a couple of photography magazines scattered around the house. I saw your picture in one just late last year."

Amelia smiled waving that off.

"Oh… it's just that I'm not that well known… didn't expect anyone to have heard of me in this town."

Cherith snorted, turning to Leslie who watched the conversation slightly confused but interestedly.

"Not well known she says. She had her picture in there as she gave her interview after she won the 2009 historical photographer of the year."

Leslie's eyes widened as she turned to the woman impressed and Amelia blushed slightly.

"Yeah well… even I didn't expect that."

"Well you should be proud!"

Leslie exclaimed.

"But what are you doing in boring old Mystic Falls? There's basically nothing here."

Amelia snorted.

"That's just what you think… oh sorry I haven't gotten your names yet."

"Oh right. I'm Leslie Greene and this is Cherith Gilbert."

Cherith gave a half wave and Leslie rolled her eyes.

"Ignore her… she's crap at human interaction."

Amelia chuckled.

"Of course. Anyways, like I said, I take historical pictures of towns with innumerable amount of history and Mystic Falls just happens to be one. I'm here for only two weeks or so and I wanted you…"

She finally turned to Cherith.

"… To be a model for a couple of my pictures."

Cherith's eyes widened as she stared at the woman, not expecting her to have uttered out something so… bizarre!

Leslie squealed.

"Oh my God! Really?! Cherith!!"

She jumped excitedly, shaking her best friend who frowned.

"You know… I expected you to say something like showing you town or taking you to places that actually hold historical meanings… not, whatever it was you just said."

She waved at the woman who stared amused at her.

"I actually already have a guide given to me by your acting mayor, if I got that right?"

Cherith and Leslie nodded and Cherith sighed, folding her arms.

"I don't know… I mean… I have no idea about models and the lots."

Amelia nodded.

"Totally understandable. It's not in all my pictures you'll appear, of course. As you may or may not know… I only have models in select few of the pictures like just sitting by a waterfront or by a beautiful historic bridge like the one I saw…"

Cherith swallowed lightly at the mention of Wickery Bridge.

"But the model I had intended for my shoot got a much better contract in Paris and left me last minute and all…"

"That sucks…"

Leslie nodded and Cherith turned to her with a look.

"If you are so excited why don't you do it then?!"

"While your friend here is no doubt beautiful, I spotted you mainly because of how much you stood out in the crowd. Your ruby hair… your pale skin! And you have such a unique eye color too! It was too good an opportunity to miss! I promise you, only a couple of pictures… and you'll be paid too of course… the money we were supposed to pay the model will be yours! And after the pictures are done and out in public, we'll send you your private keeps."

She looked pleadingly at Cherith who was still not so convinced.

Believe her, she knew this woman was the real deal, but modelling?

Nahhh…

It had definitely never been something she'd thought of.

"I still don't know… I have to think about it."

The woman nodded understandingly, rummaging through her purse.

"Of course. It's better to think on something like this. Here's my card in case you make up your mind… I do hope you call me before the week runs out though, so I can know if I've got myself a model or not… and I hope it's a positive feedback too. You'd do well as a model with your unique features."

Cherith collected the card, staring at it not really into the idea still but she nodded.

"Okay then… I'll contact you soon."

"Thank you! And a pleasure to meet you Leslie. Bye!"

She waved, walking back to a table where some books and a laptop had been dropped as the two walked out of the mall and Leslie squealed excitedly.

"OH MY GOD!!! Cherith!!! This is freaking huge!!!"

She jumped, making some people stare at her weirdly.

"It's not that huge though… it's just taking a bunch of pictures Les."

Leslie snorted as they crossed the street and walked into the café.

"Bunch of pictures she says… no it's not! You basically just got scouted! If those pictures come out as beautifully as I suspect they will, you could end up being the next big thing!"

Cherith snorted.

"Okay… back up and get back into reality my dear manager…"

Leslie rolled her eyes as they sat down by the window, basking in the bright day.

"Besides… modelling is so not my thing! You know I'm going into the archeology profession right?"

Leslie waved her off.

"Yeah sure but modelling could be a part time job for you! Or just something you dabble in occasionally! It doesn't have to be something you do all the time!"

Cherith only stared at the card and Leslie sighed.

"Okay just… think about it for a while okay? It's not going to take up your time or something. Just think on it."

Cherith sighed, nodding disgruntled as she put the card in her bag.

"I'll bring it up with Jenna or something. Let's grab some snacks so we can head on to that stupid historical society thing. Now! Enough about models and pictures and stuff like that! Any idea who your date for prom is gonna be??"

Public Park…

Cherith waved Leslie as she jogged over to some friends and Cherith walked around as people who volunteered helped about with a thing or the other.

One might have wondered what Cherith had against volunteering.

It was nothing. Just that she wasn't that nice, and a lot of people had given up on convincing her about doing things for the good of the society.

As she walked by a path, she saw Mason and Stefan super close to each other, a serious look on their faces before they shook hands, albeit hesitantly.

Mason turned to walk off and Cherith wondered if it was about the werewolf business.

She could understand why it disturbed them… having something else apart from a stake or vervain be able to kill you… yeah… disaster waiting to happen.

But Mason didn't even seem like he was interested in them, then again with Damon being an asshole, it was only a matter of time before things went awry.

And did Cherith want to be involved in that?

No.

She did want to know more about werewolves though… like, how the hell could their body mass reduce so drastically on a full moon and become as slim as a wolf's??

Damon stood behind his brother, a pouty look on his face as Stefan turned to him.

Cherith decided to go over to them… mainly because she was bored.

She still disliked Damon.

"What's wrong with the adult baby? He couldn't change his diapers this morning?"

She pointed at Damon while looking at Stefan and Damon gave her a mockingly hurt look.

"You wound me Cherry Berry!"

He pressed a hand to his chest and Cherith rolled her eyes.

"He's upset I'm trying to broker peace with Mason Lockwood."

Cherith shrugged.

"He seems like a cool guy anyways."

Damon scoffed.

"Come now Cherry, don't tell me you have some school girl crush on him! He's not even that good-looking."

Cherith gave him a dry look, giving him an unimpressed look as she stared him up down.

"Look who's talking."

He rewarded her with a disgruntled look.

"Well excuse you!"

"I'm serious, Damon…"

Stefan finally cut in.

"We already have a lot to deal with. Don't add another one to it."

He gave his brother a warning look before walking away and Damon turned to Cherith with a playful smirk.

"Well now that the party pooper's gone, how about you and I go kill us some werewolves?"

Cherith gave him an hard look.

"I'm not going to be your stupid little sidekick just so you can kill someone who's done absolutely nothing to you. You, on the other hand, have done a lot to annoy me and here you are, still standing in front of me, not even limping… still fully alive."

She murmured slightly and Damon looked at her apprehensively.

"All I'm saying anyways… is that, you might think you're the top dog here and all, but you're absolutely not. Believe me, if you're trying to get yourself killed and end up with a bite, I'll throw you a funeral party."

She gave him a look before walking off and he sighed.

"Well, there goes my trump card…"

It had been over an hour and Cherith was finding everything about the park boring.

Leslie was helping out with the volunteer work and she'd spotted Caroline and Elena a few feet away but she sure as hell wasn't going to be going anywhere near them.

Honestly it was like drama followed everyone in town!

"Oof!"

She stumbled slightly as she walked into someone.

"Sorry…"

The voice said and she looked up at a grinning Mason Lockwood.

"Sheesh! Are you mad at me cause I'm obviously stronger than you or something?"

She mumbled and he chuckled.

"Sorry to burst your bubble, but you're not stronger than me. You could be, but… that's neither here nor there."

Cherith raised an eyebrow at the way he worded his sentence.

She could be?

"Anyways, sorry again but… trash duty."

He pointed behind her where she saw some black garbage cans and he grinned.

"Except of course you want to help me with your strength?"

Cherith scoffed, folding her arms.

"Yeah, no. I don't do volunteer work. Not my kind of thing."

Mason nodded as he walked off.

"See you later then!"

She watched him grab two and hoist himself into the woods and watched as Stefan and Damon followed after him.

Very odd…

And maybe she should do something about it but… this just seemed too suspicious and she really wasn't sure she wanted to be involved in anything going on.

But still… better to at least inform those who did.

She looked around for Elena or even Caroline and spotted her sister also running into the woods and after someone.

"Okay… this isn't giving me investigative vibes… not at all…"

She murmured as she looked around for any sign of Caroline but seeing none.

With a sigh, she walked over to the path her sister had gone through and jogged slowly into the forest.

Woods…

Cherith paused, looking around and wondering where her sister had gone.

"Seriously… the things I do for drama around here…"

She grouched and stopped when she heard a rustle in the forest and out came Mason looking slightly ruffled as he held onto his side, breathing heavily.

He looked up as soon as he spotted her and Cherith's eyes narrowed slightly.

"Mason? Have you seen my sister around here?.. or maybe even Caroline?"

Mason looked around before plastering a fake reassuring smile on his face.

"You shouldn't be walking around alone here in the woods… it's dangerous."

"Oh? For who exactly?"

She asked him suspiciously and his eyes narrowed as he looked at her.

"You should go Cherith… you're a good one. I don't want to see you get hurt or even caught up in all this…"

Cherith scoffed, folding her arms.

"Believe me… I've been caught up in all this shit for a while now. See you around Mason."

She gave him a look as she walked past him and he turned, watching her go.

Cherith jogged faster, now knowing that there was something really up. As much as she didn't want to be involved in anything… no one seriously hurts Elena but her. She was the powerful sister dammit!

Cherith soon found herself by the Lockwood cellar in no time, cautiously walking down the stairs so as not to alert anyone to her arrival.

Her creeping down turned into a full on run though as soon as she heard gunshots and busted into a room, only to stop any plan of attack as Caroline killed the last cop.

A dark feeling bloomed in her chest as she saw the two cops dead on the floor.

As much as she was glad no one she knew was hurt… well except the Salvatore brothers and she could care less about them…

But these cops… they must have a family, friends… people waiting for them back home… she swallowed tightly as she passed over one and alerted people to her arrival.

"Cherry? How are you—"

"Here?"

Cherith cut her sister off as she looked up from rousing Stefan.

"Easy… I followed the stench of stupidity."

She gave everyone in the room except the sheriff a dry look as Damon groaned, smelling blood.

Cherith moved away from them, walking towards Caroline who had blood all around her mouth and brought out an handkerchief from her purse and giving it to the girl who looked grateful.

"Thanks, Cherry…"

She whispered, looking anywhere but at her mother who was still looking at her like she was her worst nightmare.

Cherith's eyes narrowed at that, walking over to the woman who looked at her cautiously.

"Cherry…"

She breathed out and Cherith rolled her eyes, folding her arms.

"Hey Sheriff… how're you holding up?"

She asked politely, because honestly she had nothing against this woman… except maybe the way she was staring at her daughter.

But that was understandable… the one thing you've been hunting is what your dearest daughter has become.

The sheriff had honestly done a lot for the town of Mystic Falls.

From trying to make sure it was a safe town for people who had no idea about the existence of things that went bump at night.

She had even been there for the Gilbert siblings when their parents had passed.

She had her positives and negatives all in all.

"Are you one of them too?"

The sheriff asked Cherith, pointing at the 2 brothers whom had awoken and the older one was presently feeding on a dead deputy.

Asshole.

Cherith scoffed, turning back to the woman with a smug look.

"Oh no… no, no, no… I'm wayyyy better than them."

"Geez… way to make a girl feel low self esteem, Cherry…"

Caroline muttered under her breathe as she finally cleaned herself up and Cherith grinned.

"Sorry care bear… but I didn't come into this world to make anyone else feel better but me… you gotta embrace the 'Love Myself' chant a lot more."

"Well now what do we do with you…"

Damon groaned as he say up, looking a mess and staring rather intensely at the sheriff who had a defeated look on her face.

"You won't tell anyone, will you?"

Caroline asked her mother, looking desperate from where she sat but her mum looked away from her.

"Mom? Mom? Please."

Caroline's voice broke slightly and Cherith felt sympathy for the blonde.

"Look, I know that we don't get along and that you hate me but I'm your daughter and you'll do this for me, right? Mom, please. He will kill you."

She begged but her mom ignored her, looking hard faced.

"Then kill me."

She said resolutely, ignoring her daughters devastated look.

"Mom!"

Cherith glared at the woman, turning to her.

"While I understand you're presently going through a crisis, realizing your daughter is a vampire and the man you thought your true friend also being one of the worst of the lot…"

"Well excuse me…"

Damon muttered in the back slightly offended.

"But! You should think about how your daughter, whom you've been neglecting, got turned into a freaking vampire and you had no fucking idea about it!"

Cherith spat out, ignoring her sisters look of surprise at how she was talking to the Sheriff.

"You wouldn't understand, Cherry…"

"Oh get off your high horse!"

Cherith scoffed, turning away from the woman.

In that moment, Damon blurred over to the sheriff, holding her up and Elena and Caroline sat up with alarm.

"Damon! No!"

"Please! Don't kill her!"

Cherith turned to Damon, watching his every move.

He didn't seem like he was actually gonna kill her. Just… betrayed… huh!

Well how about that!

"You were gonna drag It out, weren't you?...Make it painful…"

He whispered to her and Caroline took a step forward making Damon scoff.

"Chill out, you guys. I'm not gonna kill her."

He left her, stepping back.

"You're my friend."

Cherith rolled her eyes.

"Touching and all but, are we done here? Or rather, am I done here? Okay bye."

She turned to walk off and Elena walked over to her.

"Cherry… hey I need to talk to you."

Cherith groaned as she walked up the stairs and out of the cellar, Elena following her.

The sky was slightly dimmer than it was before and Cherith turned as soon as they got outside.

"What do you want?"

"I uh… I know you're getting close to Tyler and all but… I don't think it's safe for you to—"

"Hold it right there Elena."

Cherith raised a hand, chuckling while staring at her sister amused.

"It's still funny how you think your words mean a thing to me."

"Cherry…"

"I'll talk to whoever I want to talk to… even if it's Mason. I mean, I can't blame the guy for wanting to get rid of the Salvatore brothers and all."

"Even Stefan?"

Elena asked aghast and Cherith tilted her head as if in thought.

"I mean… Stefan hasn't done anything to make me mad yet but… he loves to protect Damon. One day sis… it just might not go in his favor."

She gave Elena a dry smile before walking off, leaving Elena staring as she left.

Right now though… Cherith had somewhere to be…

Someone to talk to.

Lockwood Residence.

It was night time when Cherith finally drove to the Lockwood Residence.

She needed answers.

She wanted to know what was going on… if Mason was a threat to her or not.

She wanted to know about werewolves… she wanted to know if he would give her answers or not.

She got out of her car and walked towards the front door, ignoring the chilly air and knocking on the door 4 times so she could be heard.

She didn't care if it was rude.

The Lockwood mansion was huge, lord knew if they'd heard her or not.

A moment after, Tyler opened the door and stared at her in surprise.

"Cherith? What the hell are you doing here?"

He questioned.

"I want to talk to Mason. Is he in?"

She peeped over his shoulder and Tyler scoffed, folding his arms.

"I am hurt… and here I thought you wanted to see me."

He playfully pouted and she snorted, walking in without invitation and he rolled his eyes as he closed the door.

"Well I'm sorry, do you want me to pat the little guy?"

She smirked and Tyler grinned.

"Well I mean… if you're offering."

"Oh?"

She tilted her head, slowly walking over to him, a seductive grin on her face as she playfully dragged a finger across his chin and a devilish grin appeared on her face.

"We will need a knife, of course… a very sharp one."

Tyler's face turned green as he immediately took a huge step away from her and she struggled not to snicker, putting on a hurt face.

"What? You mean you don't want me?"

She questioned and he moved around her cautiously.

"Yeah, never mind… I'll get Mason…"

"Tyler… come here. I just wanna cut some carrots…"

She grinned suggestively and he turned to the stairs.

"MASON!!!! THERE'S A CRAZY PSYCHO HERE TO SEE YOU!!!

He shouted as he ran up the stairs, jumping over two at a time and she snickered before shouting out at him.

"See you Tyler!! Ah…"

She cleaned a stray tear from her eyes.

"Men… so easy to fool…"

A footstep coming down the stairs drew her out of her mind as she saw Mason walk down the stairs, a small smile on his face, looking like a surfer… well, he kind of was one so…

"Cherith… Tyler said you wanted to see me?... Even though he looked like he'd just seen the hordes of hell…"

Cherith shrugged.

"Might as well have. Anyways… is this place safe to talk?"

She raised an eyebrow and he looked at her searchingly, and as if finding an answer, pointed out the door.

"Let's talk outside."

Cherith nodded and the two left the mansion, not noticing Tyler's curious look from up the stairs as he went back up his room.

"So! What can I help you with?"

Mason smiled and Cherith rolled her eyes.

"Okay, let's cut the crap and stop pretending like normal people. I know you're a werewolf and I know you know vampires exist."

Mason's eyebrows raised slightly and he folded his arms, sighing out.

"I see…"

"Yes… you see… I might look all uninterested in life itself and all but believe me, I notice things…"

She assured him and he nodded.

"Yeah. I noticed. So… why are you telling me all these things? Aren't you scared I might attack you?"

Cherith scoffed amused.

"Oh no… if anyone's going to be hurt I assure you it'll be you…"

He looked at her curiously.

"What are you exactly?"

"Excuse you?"

"You're not a vampire… yet you're strong. Are you an untriggered?"

He questioned and Cherith frowned, tilting her head slightly.

"Untriggered? What's that?"

Mason raised an eyebrow up.

"Meaning you're not fully a wolf yet, and if you don't know that, then you don't know much about werewolves in general. So what's the secret?"

Cherith snorted.

"I actually came here to ask the questions and not the other way around El Diablo… so! What's your scheme?... What's the plan behind that pretty face?"

Mason chuckled, shaking his head.

"There is no plan. And if there is, why do you think I'd tell you?"

Cherith gave him a fake smile, not wanting to reveal anything yet… better to leave him in the dark for now.

"Easy. You don't know what I'm capable of."

"Just like you also don't know what I'm capable of as well."

Cherith chuckled.

"Touché… been a while since I could converse with someone with brains…"

Mason shook his head amused.

"Don't worry though… I don't mean any harm to you or your family. Can't say the same for the Salvatore brothers though…"

Cherith waved him off.

"They're free real estate. I don't care. Just don't make my family get hurt too… I might be unable to really grasp human emotions, but it doesn't mean I'm truly dead inside yet."

He raised an eyebrow.

"Yet?"

Cherith shrugged.

"I have this feeling… Anyways! You be careful though… Stefan and Damon aren't dead yet. And as much I don't really care for a lot of things, Jenna seems to like you. So… take my advice or not, it's not so much of a loss for me."

Mason nodded, face grim at the realization that the Salvatore brothers were still alive.

"You still haven't told me what you are…"

Cherith grinned as she turned to walk away.

"What I am?... Well it's easy… I'm Special."

Mason chuckled as she walked off.

She really was something else… but he needed to know what she was still…

Gilbert Residence.

Cherith walked into her home that night after cutting her call with Leslie and walked into the living room where Jenna was watching a movie and flopped on the couch next to her.

"Hey brat. You're back late."

Cherith shrugged, stealing some popcorn from Jenna's bowl and munching on it.

"Stayed a while with some acquaintances. So! I may or may not have been scouted this morning."

Jenna turned to her confused.

"Scouted? For what, the military?"

She laughed at her joke and Cherith looked at her unimpressed.

"That was dry Jens, even for you. And no… some photographer lady—hold on!"

Cherith stood up and grabbed the pile of magazines in the cupboard by the kitchen and took the one she was looking for, opening it and pointing at the woman in it.

"Amelia Banks. She's here in Mystic Falls and she wants to take a bunch of pictures with me included in them. I said I'd reach her back but I'm not really interested in it."

Jenna gave her an exasperated look.

"Well excuse you! This is a great opportunity! You should be excited!"

Jenna gushed and Cherith shrugged.

"I dunno. You know I'm not into all this stuff Jenna… Leslie says I should give it a try but I'm not sure yet."

"Well Leslie is a darling. I want to meet her… get an autograph for Alaric. Think we can meet her at the Ball?"

"I don't think I'm going to the Ball."

Jenna gave her a surprised look.

"What, you thought because I've been going to a bunch of parties I'd suddenly continue? It's gonna be my off day Jenna. I wanna enjoy it by just sleeping in… eating a bunch of delicious food and just about being my age!"

Jenna gave her a look.

"We will discuss this later."

Cherith rolled her eyes, standing up.

"In any case, I'm going to be at the Lockwood mansion in 2 days' time when volunteer work begins for the masquerade Ball."

"Oh, you'll be volunteering as well?"

Cherith threw her a look.

"I don't think I will."

"Brat."

Cherith chuckled as she jogged up the stairs.

As she was about to enter her room though, Jeremy opened his door.

"Hey Cherry, could you come here for a sec?"

He motioned into his room and Cherith shrugged.

"Sure."

As she walked in and closed the door, he turned to her.

"So, I've been gathering a bunch of information about the Lockwoods and apparently they're werewolves but Tyler is an untriggered one and Mason is looking for some kind of a moonstone which Tyler had but is hiding from Mason and –"

"Woah, woah! Chill for a second!"

Cherith stopped Jeremy mid rant, eyes wide open at the influx of information her brother had just laid down on her.

"First of all, how do you even know about this??"

Jeremy shrugged.

"I hung out with Tyler and some girls today at his house… some things led to another and it came out. Look, Cherry Tyler is an untriggered so there's nothing to worry about from him. It's his uncle we should be worried about."

Cherith scoffed, waving him off.

"First of all… you and I, have nothing to worry about when it comes to werewolves, except if you meet one under a full moon then…you gon' die…"

She shrugged and he gave her a look.

"And second, what the hell is an untriggered?! This is the second time I'm hearing that word!"

Jeremy looked at her surprised.

"Really?"

"Yeah… Mason thinks that's what I am…"

Jeremy's eyes widened.

"Why would he—you know what, nevermind. An untriggered wolf if someone who hasn't triggered the curse of the wolf line. In order to do that… you have to kill someone… either intentionally or unintentionally."

Cherith wrinkled her nose slightly at the thought of having to kill someone to access powers.

And powers as… painful, as the one of a werewolf.

It was even called a curse for a reason. It seemed she was getting the answers she needed after all…

"You mentioned some moonstone?"

She looked back at him and he nodded.

"Yeah, apparently Mason's been looking for it. His dad had it somewhere and Tyler found it but is hiding it from his uncle…"

Cherith nodded, deep in thought.

"You think we should tell the others about this?"

Jeremy asked and Cherith gave him a look.

"And then what? They decide everything is about them and try to kill the Lockwoods??"

Cherith threw an exasperated hand up in the air, looking at her brother.

"This is vital information Cherry…"

"I know it is! But you be careful with who you tell… you tell Elena and it ends up in the hands of Damon and Stefan who are pretty much bloodthirsty for werewolf blood right now. I don't know about you, but this doesn't seem to concern them…"

Jeremy shook his head disagreeing.

"I think it concerns them though. We should all be careful. Werewolves are not to be taken lightly."

"And vampires too, in case you've forgotten brother… and yet our sister is playing house with them. Look, I won't tell you what to do Jemmie. You're my brother, but don't make any mistakes… I… just, don't."

She gave him a look that concerned him slightly but he nodded, giving her a side hug.

Woods…

Mason walks through the woods and stops by a black inconspicuous car, entering it and turning to the driver who turns out to be a straight faced Katherine.

He grins, leaning in for a kiss but she presses a finger to his lips, stopping him.

"What was that stunt today that you pulled with Damon and Stefan Salvatore?"

She questioned, turning to him with a displeased look and he scoffed lightly.

"I thought you would be happy about that."

"I told you to stay away from them."

"Why do you even care?"

He asked her confused and she sighed, putting up a soft façade and caressing his cheeks.

"I just don't want you to get distracted. I need you to find the moonstone."

Mason smiled softly at her before his smile grew into a grin and she tilted her head slightly at his action.

"You got it?"

She summed up and he chuckled, nodding.

"I got it."

Katherine grinned before pulling Mason into a passionate kiss which lasted for a while before they pulled back.

"I do have a question though…"

Mason asked her softly, thumb rubbing softly at her neck.

"Hm?"

"Cherith Gilbert… you might have heard of her…"

That caught Katherine's attention.

"What is she? Do you have any idea?"

Mason asked her with a curious face and Katherine smiled coyly as she remembered the fiery redhead.

So much power in that petite body.

If only…

She smiled at Mason.

"She's something… nothing for you to worry about… she's a bigger picture though…"

She said with a promising look in her eyes, drawing Mason back in for a kiss.
