Chapter 28 – Andy Parker

(Earth-1610)

Clinic, Downtown Albany (A Few Hours Later)

"Cause it's midnight in Montgomery,"

"Just hear that whippoorwill,"

"See the stars light up the purple sky,"

"Feel that lonesome chill."

Andy's staled eyes flushed, staring at popcorn ceiling. He glances at his chest, fleshless. His rib cages were exposed. He is one skinny person, and Andy realizes that he hasn't eaten enough after, what happened at the farm.

Andy looks at the doctor in a white coat, curly hair, and had sneakers on. Andy sits, but starts wheezing and coughs. The doctor turns and sighs.

"Oh thank the lord." He said, sitting by his side. "I was worried that I'd have to tell your daughter that you've gone to the great beyond."

Andy's arms were flimsy. He looks to his previous wounds, on his chest, and his arms. He feels grooves of scars on his face.

"Well. It's nice to meet you too, Doc." He sits. "I really need to get going. Really."

"No. I can't let you." The Doc said. "You need, treatment, you need rest. Your bloodline is contaminated, it's like their decaying!"

"Pfft, pretty normal to me." Andy plucks the wires of his chest and his shoulders.

The Doctor grabs his shoulders and sits him. "You need medical treatment pronto. I know I can't force you. But I'm telling you, something is wrong with you."

Andy shoves him and shoves his clothes on, "Don't worry. I know."

Andy enters the lobby. Cindy was the last one in the lobby.

"If you don't want to go to hospital, maybe there' something I can do!" The Doc said.

Andy turns to him. "Look, you seem like a nice guy alright? But I never asked to be here, okay? Now forget that we were ever here."

Andy grabs Cindy and exits the Clinic.

Sidewalk, Downtown Albany

Andy and Cindy came across a ghost town. Some cars strolling. He looks down the road. He glances at the small towns. He sighs and coughs. Where are we? Andy gapes at Cindy, walking across the street.

"Hey! Hey!"

Andy walks across the street. Cindy opens the door to the minivan, throwing boxes at the back seat. Andy squints.

"You can't take shit y'know?" Andy said getting in the van like an old man. He inserts the key into the startup. "I dunno how you got me here. But thank you."

"Dōitashimashite."

"Yeah."

Andy stares at Cindy crossing her arms. His jaw drops.

"You can talk?" He drops his shoulders.

She nods.

"You can talk?"

She nods.

"Fuck." Andy glares. "Then why the. Hell is all this being cute bullshit for two-thousand, fucking miles!"

Cindy Jolts. "Then how the hell do you think I'm supposed to talk to you when you talk me like that?!"

"SHUT THE FUCK UP!" Andy screams in her face.

"Jessica, Mayday, Ben, Julia."

"Who?! Who is that?!"

Cindy scrambles in her backpack and pulls out an empty orange envelope. Andy's eyes gape.

"Look at the address!"

"The Fuck happen to all the money?!"

"One River Road!"

Andy grabs the orange envelop. "Listen to me very careful young lady. This Zeke guy has been lying to you. He's read too many stories. Alright?"

"No! Look! Look!" Cindy reaches more into her backpack.

"Now tell me what happen to all my fucking money!"

Cindy takes out a comic of the Black and Red Spider-Man and flips through the pages and shows the Black and Red Spider-Man at a facility. Andy snatches the comic.

"Yes. I know. This is nada, no existo!"

"Yes! Yes! I know!"

"It's all a fantasy. This shit happened a long time ago." Andy coughs. "If I take you there, we're gonna die."

"No! You don't understand!"

"This whole thing is a circus!"

"We paid you to take me there, forget them! We paid you! Look!"

"What now?!"

Cindy takes out a large map from her backpack and expands it. "it did shut down. But they're hiding here! Right Here!"

She points to a marker near the Hudson River. Andy rolls his eyes.

"Okay. Okay. Enough! where's the money!"

"Here! Right Here! You have to take me there!"

"LISTEN! It's a long way! Okay I am not taking you to Hudson!"

Cindy gives Andy a glare. Andy just stares at her face, as his was scared, bruised, red eyes that were stained of tears.

"I am fucked up." He said. "And I'm not taking you. I haven't had nine hours of sleep."

Cindy punches Andy. Andy's ears blow.

"TAKE ME!"

"NO! DON'T HIT ME!"

"Jessica, Mayday, Ben, Julia. Jessica."

"Stop. Stop it. Stop saying those names! Stop saying those-" Andy releases her hand and starts the van and makes a loud groan. "Fine! Fine! Let's go to fucking Zombieland! We'll die happily ever after!"

He reverses onto the road. Andy gazes at the sun setting in the west. He drives off into that direction. His body begins to numb.

Chavez Farm, Massachusetts (An hour ago)

Liv's eyes flashes. She gazes at the sunsetting creating a vivid orange sky. She eyes many Alchemax soldiers cleaning up the farm.

They got away, again. Liv strolls through the battlegrounds. She finds a heavy injured Kaine seated at his cage with The Jackal and his doctors. He sticks a syringe into his shoulder.

"Well done my boy." He said, squeezing the green stuff in. "I'm sure within a couple of hours you'll will be usable again."

"Doctor?" A Chief comes forth. she turns to him. "We have bodies."

"Okay?" She follows the Chief to the bodies of a Latino family. A man in casual farm clothes was Impaled through the chest. The woman in a white gown had her neck slit, and the boy wearing a cloth PJ's was stabbed through the guts.

She said. "Get rid of them."

The Chief signals the guards. They covered the bodies in a black plastic bags and took them away. She looks to the desolated house and walks inside.

She walks over debris, splinters, and steel rods. She gazes at the broken door to the basement. She walks downstairs and finds a bunch of air beds and a mattress stained with blood. Her eyes spot a white card on the floor. She reads a description.

One River Road, You'll be safe there. With us. –Jessica, Julia, Ben, Mayday

She flips the card and shows a picture of a birthday party. Cindy being front and center, alongside three girls and one boy. Liv smirks. She frowns and flips back and reads: One River Road. Her eyes gape.

She strides outside and finds Kaine in the black cage. She strides to it, holding out a post card.

"Boy!"

Kaine snaps to her. Hissing at her.

"Doctor Octavius?" The Jackal steps in front. "What are you doing?"

"It's hunting time."

"What?!" He said. "But he's not ready yet!"

Martin Li steps in. "What's the meaning of this?"

"Trust me." She holds the picture to Kaine's face. "C'mon boy smell it."

The nine-foot creature gets on his knee and smoothers the picture. He huffs and turns. Liv raises an eyebrow. She gazes at the card, then finds dry blood. Scent. She shows it the blood. The creature takes a step and turns. It's lenses widened and growls. It finds the stench on the card and smoothers it one more time.

It glares. It growls. It roars. It speeds into the cornfields.

Liv runs to a jeep and starts it up. "Follow the trail! Now!"
