Chapter 29 - Wormhole

The Doctor and Rose got dressed. The Doctor put back on his jeans and a red t-shirt. Rose put on her long, cotton blue skirt and blouse. They walked out of the bedroom to check on Genie. They found her awake and playing with her dollhouse.

"Well, hey!" Rose said to her as she came in and sat on the floor with her. "We didn't know you were awake."

Genie smiled. "I guessed you were asleep. Daddy looked tired earlier. So, I let you sleep."

The Doctor knelt down and kissed her on the forehead. "Thank you, I was tired. I'm all refreshed now. How about you?"

"I feel good. Thirsty, though." Genie said.

"Well, I can fix that. Let's go find something!" Rose told her. The Doctor stood up and walked down the hall carrying Genie.

Rose asked them. "Tea?"

The Doctor said, "Sure! I'll take tea! You, Genie? Rose hasn't tried out the new kettle since I fixed it."

Genie shook her head. "No, thanks. Milk or juice, please."

Rose stopped him and put her hand on his chest. "Wait a minute. What did you do to the kettle?"

He smiled, "I got sick of waiting for the water to heat up for tea. I fixed it where it will heat up almost instantly. Like my old kettle on... um..." he looked at Genie. "Our old place."

Rose smiled and nodded her head. "Oh, okay."

They reached the kitchen. The Doctor opened the refrigerator and handed Genie a juice box. He sat her on the floor.

Rose asked, "Is that alright?"

"Can I take it to my room so I can play?" Genie asked.

Rose said, "Yeah, I suppose so."

Genie turned and ran down the hall.

"Walk! Don't run with a straw in your mouth!" the Doctor fussed at her.

It made Rose laugh. "That sounds like a Daddy, there."

He rolled his eyes at her and leaned against the counter behind Rose. "Running with stuff in their mouths. That never ends well."

Rose laughed at him. "Poor kid that has a Doctor for a Dad. She can't run with stuff in her mouth, or wear heels-"

"Have a trampoline, date until she's 40, wear roller skates, skateboard, do gymnastics." the Doctor added.

Rose looked at him. "Okay, you are crazy! I did gymnastics. It's perfectly safe!"

He looked surprised at her. "Did you really?"

Rose nodded. "Sure did! And I wasn't bad, either. I even won the bronze medal once when I competed."

He smiled. "Really? How old were you?"

"Ten? Eleven. Somewhere around there." Rose told him.

"Phhh... we'll see, then." he said.

"Okay, let's get back to this crazy dream you had. Someone is coming? Is that what she said?"

He ran his hand through his wet hair. "Yeah, that's what she said. Someone that needs your forgiveness. Who is that if it's not him?"

"Well, I don't think it's him. I shouldn't worry about that." Rose told him as she made them both tea.

"But, how can you know?" he asked her.

"Well, I can't. I have no idea."

"Who else needs to get forgiveness from you? Wait. I might have misunderstood that. She might have said you need his forgiveness. But, it's a bloke for sure."

Rose laughed as she stirred his tea for him. "You are so damn jealous." She turned and handed him his tea. "Maybe it's that weapons developer that made you crazy!"

"Ha! That would be rich!" he said as he blew his tea. "He told me that he has a girl, anyway."

Rose turned to him and leaned against the cabinet to face him. "Yeah, he does! She's gorgeous, too! I'd have to worry about you if you ever met her. She's ginger!"

"Is she?" he asked.

Rose pointed at him. "See!"

"No. Relax woman. I'm not like that."

"What if she was a member of the Royal family?" she teased.

"She's probably not. And I'm not telling you that."

"How many of them were ginger?" Rose teased as she stood directly in front of him, rubbing his foot with hers.

He looked down at their feet and smiled. "A few. You have such tiny feet."

She laughed. "A few. So, that's Gallifreyan for how many?"

"Phhh... not telling you woman! Give it up."

Rose laughed at him as she went into the living room and sat down. He walked over and sat next to her. She put her legs on his lap and drank her tea. He rubbed her leg through her skirt.

She continued, "So, who else could it be?"

He shrugged. "I have no idea. Mickey? That would be nice. Especially with this damn war. He would be useful."

She thought, "Jack maybe?"

He shook his head. "Nah, I doubt that. He's all over the place. Plus, whoever it is probably wouldn't be able to get back to the Prime Dimension. I've met Jack when he was extremely old there. So, he couldn't come. He wouldn't be able to get back. I don't know. I just have to figure out how to get whoever it is out of the Void. She said he is trapped there."

"Now? Like, right now?" Rose asked him.

"That's what she said."

Rose looked at him. "If you really thought it was him, you were going to leave him there wasn't you?"

He bit his bottom lip. "Is there an answer to that question that won't get me punched?"

Genie ran into the room. She straighten up and looked at Rose. "No punching! You have to keep your hands to yourself!" She told them.

"Hands to ourselves." the Doctor repeated. "Well, can I at least touch Rose?"

Genie smiled. "Sure. But no hitting, biting or punching! That's not nice and you'll get into trouble!"

Rose was laughing. The Doctor said, "With who?"

"Me!" Genie said as if it was the most oblivious thing in the world.

He laughed at her. "Okay, we've been warned. Good to know."

Rose asked her, "How about if I need to smack him?"

Genie thought for a minute. "That's okay. Just not all the time. Sometimes he probably needs it."

Rose was laughing at her. The Doctor looked betrayed. "Letting Rose smack your Daddy? What is that about, little one?"

She shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know. Gran said you needed it."

He smiled as he rolled his eyes. "Tyler women. Ganging up on me. Domestics."

Genie asked. "Can we play ball, Daddy?"

He raised his hand to his necklace to make sure he was wearing it. "Yep! Go get it!"

She ran down the hall as he drank the rest of his tea and sat it on the coffee table. She returned and he clapped once. The ball zoomed into his hands.

He looked at Rose who was still drinking her tea. The ball had just barely missed her tea glass.

He got up and went to sit in a chair next to the sofa. "Genie, you don't want to ever upset a British lady who is drinking her tea. I was put in jail for that once."

Rose laughed. "Oh, what number was that?"

He tossed the ball to Genie. "What number what?"

"Which number of the Royal family? I'm sure it was not because she was drinking her tea."

He clapped his hands together and caught the ball. "Oh, that damn house needs to get built already."

His phone rang. He tossed the ball to Genie and answered. It was the architect.

"You already have some plans drew up? Damn! You take that rush job seriously don't you?" the Doctor said.

He clapped his hands together and caught the ball.

He tossed it to Genie again and said, "I don't know, let me check. Rose, do you think it would be alright to have the architect drop by today to go over some house plans? Are you up for that? Especially with everyone over here at the same time?"

Rose shrugged her shoulders. "Sure! Dad will want to see it anyway I'm sure."

"Well, that's true. Yes! Come on by. I'll warn you, we're going to have a flat full of people. Just plan on having dinner with us. 7:00. Tell the security downstairs you are coming to see Albert and Lily Crowe on the 60th floor. Right, see you then!"

He ended the phone call as clapped again and caught the ball.

Rose asked, "Albert and Lily Crowe?"

"Yes! That's who everyone thinks is up here. Pete started that with the initial paperwork. Jake told me that they had prepared aliases for us before we even left for the States. My office door even says it's for Albert Crowe. Just remember to use it if you order something. Everyone knows who Rose Tyler is and we don't want to invite trouble. The press still thinks we are in New York, anyway. So we're alright."

Genie danced around and laughed. "This is the best game, Daddy!"

He laughed at her. "Let's play a new game with this. Okay my Sara Gene? Remember we talked about the different dimensions?"

"Yes!" she smiled. He tossed the ball to her. She ran to get it. Once she had it in her hands, she held it proudly above her head.

"Okay, well between them, there is nothing. What would you do if you knew someone was trapped in there?"

Rose looked surprised. 'You're asking her? She's a child.'

'That's exactly what I'm asking her. Children can work out things that adults can't grasp. On some worlds, they are the strategic thinkers of major armies. Humans are the only ones that just let them use that ability to sort out of a video game.'

He clapped and caught the ball. "Think about it little one."

"Do I have a ship?" she asked.

"No. But they do because they are there already."

She put her hands on her hips. "Hmmm...can I see where they are?"

"No. They can't see you either. A wall divides you." the Doctor smiled at her.

Genie paced and tapped her index finger to her lips.

"Can I drill a hole in the wall?" she asked.

He tossed the ball to her again. "There are already holes in the wall, but they are so small no one can pass through them."

She caught the ball and attempted to bounce it off her head.

"Can I make the hole bigger? Like when a worm climbs through it?"

He looked curiously at her. "A worm? What are you on about?"

He clapped his hands and caught the ball.

"You know... a hole for a worm. Spaceships on the telly fly through them."

He sat up and looked surprised. "A wormhole? What have you been watching on the telly?"

"It was on a cartoon." she reasoned.

He tossed the ball to Genie.

"Phhhh... I wish. I thought about that. There isn't the technology here to make one. We'll have to wait about 300 years for that."

Rose said, "No wait! Malcolm has been messing around with that. He actually opened one a while back, and I made him stop. "

"Why?" the Doctor asked.

Rose looked at him seriously. "Have you meet some of those people at Torchwood? Opening a random wormhole? That would be inviting all sorts of problems."

"But, you said he opened it. Could he control where he opened it? Can he control what sort of wormhole it is? There are several different types."

Then he thought, "Well, I could control the type. Huh."

Rose shrugged her shoulders. "He says he can."

"What's way above what they are supposed to be able to do right now. This world is really way more technologically advanced than the Prime Dimension."

He looked back at Genie and smiled. "Thank you little one! You win the game! You figured it out! Very clever! Outstanding!"

He turned and told Rose. "Ha! What did I tell you Rose? What if we did that? Plant a small wormhole into one of the tiny holes to expand it just enough to get whoever out of it? We couldn't send him back, but we can at least get him out!"

Rose was amazed. "Wow, Genie. That was brilliant!"

In his excitement, the Doctor clapped and ball smacked him in the chest. Causing all three of them to laugh. "Aw! Forgot what I was doing! I have to call Malcolm!"
