Sunday passed with students feeling anxious for their first day. It's Monday morning. Normally, kids would wake up thirty minutes to an hour early just so they can look their best for the first day. In this case, Luffy wasn't one of those students. He finally arrived home at six o'clock in the morning from the airport.
He didn't bother calling his grandpa for a ride, because one, he's a heavy sleeper and two, he's supposed to be in Africa right now. Luckily, Luffy had some cash left over to catch a Fruber home. Falling asleep on the way home, he dreamt of going to school today and seeing all his friends again, and Nami. Smiling to himself while he slept.
"Oi! We're here." the driver reaches over to tap him on the knee. Waking him up.
Luffy slowly opens his eyes, looking out to see the all familiar place he called home. He got out and got his duffle bag from the trunk of the car and rummaged through his pockets for his keys. Before he opens the door, the door itself opens and he's almost hit with a bat.
"Who's there?!" Garp asks, still half asleep.
"Woah, grandpa, it's just me. Luffy." Luffy identifies himself.
"Oh." Garp was too out of it to get into it and just went back upstairs to head back to bed.
Luffy picks up his bag and heads inside. Luffy didn't bother kicking off his shoes, he tossed his duffle bag into a corner and crashed onto the couch.
An hour later, at the Cocoyashi District.
"Nami, I put your breakfast in the microwave." Nojiko calls out from across the house.
The two sisters finally started their last year of highschool today. The seniors wore a Navy blue vest over their white uniform top, to signify their importance. Nojiko dressed in her white uniform blouse, blue vest, above the knee plaid navy blue skirt and shin length black socks with her black shoes. Her tong hair tied into a ponytail with a black headband for accessory.
Nami freshens up herself with her new strawberry-orange scented perfume that she got in America. Her wavy hair that she had trimmed over the summer grew its inches quick and fell on her tailbone. Before putting on her signature pearl earrings she looks in the mirror at her reflection, "Let's make this the best year yet." she tells herself.
Nami swipes on a soft peach tinted lip balm and leaves her room. Her sister was already standing at the door. Nami smiles at her, "looking good." she compliments.
"Right back at ya." Noiko returns the compliment. Nami wore an almost identical uniform to her sister, only difference were her brown shoes and thigh high black socks. Nami goes to the kitchen for her breakfast that Nojiko said she'd left in the microwave.
"I thought you said my breakfast was in the microwave, either you ate it or it grew legs and walked out. The second is the least likely for me to believe." Nami calls out.
"I lied. You can get some at school, now come on, we're gonna be late, aren't you excited?" Nojiko grabs her sweater from the coat rack, causing Nami to roll her eyes and follow suit.
At Big Sea Highschool.
Many students were bustling inside the gates, a lot of the first years were smaller than last year's, they already started making themselves acquainted with other first years forming their own little cliques. Nami and Nojiko finally arrived giving them forty-five minutes before the bell rang. Nami felt weird not having the old seniors here anymore, but she knew she'd have to adjust. Nojiko went on ahead into the building to the office to find her new locker and take a walk around. Nami stayed outside for a while waiting on a certain someone.
"I'm here at school, how was your flight? Are you still coming?" She texts Luffy. Nami chews the inside of her mouth when she's anxious. She hoped he was okay. She personally didn't like flying as it was a scary experience for her. Hopefully, nothing happened to him.
"Oh Nami!" a green haired girl came running towards her with an orange plush starfish backpack on her back.
"Oh hi….Camie right?" Nami guessed.
"That's me." Camie beams. "Are you starving? I made sure I came early to get breakfast." Camie holds her growling stomach.
"Sure, I'll get breakfast with you." Nami walks inside with Camie.
Inside the building she'd known for years, nothing has changed. The same colored lockers, bathroom doors, poorly painted walls. Nami smiles to herself. It won't be long before she's out of here. Nami walks into the spacious cafeteria to join the short line of students for breakfast.
"What are you planning on doing this year Camie? Second year can be pretty stressful." Nami asks, trying to make conversation.
"Well, I wanted to try out for the volleyball team, but I'm not really good at jumping, same for track and field, I'm not exactly fast either, but I am a great swimmer. Too bad the school doesn't have a swim team."
"I'm sure you'd be an awesome swimmer. Maybe you can join, Jewelry crafts. I can tell you have a bubbly personality, and love to get creative."
"Thanks for the suggestion, I'll definitely look forward to joining. What about you? Are you doing any extra activity?"
They move up in line.
"I'll probably join track and field this year, last year I played volleyball. It was really fun."
The two girls chatted making each other giggle, an outsider watched Nami from a distance, Rebecca. Just what the hell is that girl's problem?
Sitting in her signature seat in her homeroom. Nami stares outside the window waiting on a response from Luffy. Her homeroom had a new teacher because apparently her old teacher Dracule Mihawk, became a famous model like that wrench Hancock who took advantage of her boyfriend. An elder woman walks into the classroom filled with seniors as the first period bell has rung. Nami looks over to Zoro's seat, which is empty, per usual.
"Alright settle down youngsters, I'm Ms. Tsuru, I'll be your teacher for this year. Don't test my patience because I don't play with children. There shouldn't be any children in here anyway, you guys are young adults in the making. You should know to conduct yourselves accordingly. Now, I'm going to take attendance and hand out your schedules. For this semester. If you find fault over your schedules, don't come to me. Schedule a meeting with your counselor." Tsuru says in a silent class. She takes her seat behind the desk and starts looking through the registration, calling names to mark present or absent.
"Nami?"
"Here." Nami raises her hand.
"I've heard a lot about you, keep it up kid." Tsuru compliments before moving onto the next person.
Finally, "Zoro?" Ms. Tsuru calls.
As if on cue the sliding doors to the homeroom opens, revealing a tired green haired boy in bandages who trails over to his desk.
"And you are?" Tsuru asks.
"Oi Nami, who's the old hag?" Zoro yawns, blinking a few times at the elder woman.
"You have some nerve kid!" Tsuru yells at him. She looks down at her registration list and ticks him as present seeing he is the last on the list and last to come in. "I'm Ms. Tsuru, your new teacher. You're already on my bad side, Roronoa. Now you better give me a believable explanation as to why you're late or I'll march to the office myself."
"It's not my fault they change the class location every time. It's pretty dumb if you asked me." Zoro leans back in his chair. The class groans as Zoro explains his reason for being late.
"...well, seeing that it's the first day. I'll let your childish excuse slide. Besides announcements are coming on, I want to hear my name on the PA system."
Seconds later the PA system starts by playing some soothing mall music to signify the beginning of announcements.
"Uh, good morning to all, this is your principal Mr. Kuzan, for today's announcement…."
Everyone is settled waiting to hear from their principal. "Where'd my notes go?..." can be heard quietly over the PA. "Ah, right, um, welcome back for another year, if you're new here at Big Sea High School, I hope you feel unnerved by all the friendly staff and students here. Remember to take your studies seriously, that's what you're all here for. Sports that will be participated this semester are, co-ed male and female volleyball, indoor track and field and basketball. If you're interested, club meetings will be held after school. There will be a notice posted around school to where you are to meet for your desired sport and you must be on time."
Some kids in the class cheered silently, excited to participate.
"Next, there will be openings for the student council. If you want to participate and run for a position, you can come down to the office and register your name. Lastly, you'll be distributed your schedules for this semester. If you want to change a class in your schedule please make an appointment with your counselor to get sorted. With that being said, I need some water, that was….a mouthful…..have a nice normal day wavers." He says, repeating what Tsuru said earlier.
The PA system went quiet.
Tsuru sat in her chair drawing circles on her desk with her finger, "he didn't mention that I'm a new teacher." she says depressingly.
With a sigh, Tsuru says boringly, "When I call your name come up for your schedule."
Luffy sleep soundlessly on the couch until he got clocked upside his head, waking him from his deep slumber. "Owww!" He rubs his head where the pain resided.
"If you're living back here I won't go easy on you, you're already late for school so get dressed." Garp reprimands.
Luffy goes upstairs to quickly change into his school uniform and to pack his school bag. Coming down the stairs, Luffy asks Garp who sat at the table reading the newspaper.
"Why are you reading the newspaper when the television is right there?"
"You're trying to tell me how to operate in my home boy?"
"No….Aren't you mad that I'm back?"
"Knowing you, you'd find a way to come back anyway. That's why I didn't rush to unroll you from school. Need I to remind you, you're already late." Garp shuffles his papers to read the next page. "Oh, these are some good coupons."
"Can I get a ride?"
"The car's in the shop. You'll have to figure how to get there yourself."
"Can I have money for the bus?" Luffy asks, already rummaging through the money jar hidden behind some unopened cans in the cabinet.
"You're already helping yourself!" Garp yells.
Luffy laughs before hurrying out the door. "I'll pay you back!"
"You brat!" Garp yells out after him as Luffy runs down the street.
After two more periods had passed by, it was now break time for Nami, she headed down the stairs from her geography class down to make her way to the office to register for student council president. On her way she gets a text.
"I'm on my way to school :)" She reads Luffy's message and realized he sent it awhile ago, meaning that he should already be here. Now, on the first floor. She makes her way past the crowd that swarmed into the cafeteria for break time. Bumping shoulder with a blue haired girl along the way.
"Vivi?" Nami asks, turning around to spot her best friend.
"Hm?" Vivi turns around hearing her name. She waves at Nami before heading into the cafe.
As the crowd starts to die out, Nami makes her way to the office entrance. Noticing a certain pink haired girl coming out of the office. Nami smiles to herself, knowing the intentions Rebecca had towards her.
"Hey Rebecca, cute shoes." Nami compliments her before walking past and into the office.
Rebecca scowls at her back and rolls her eyes, walking down the hall heading for the cafeteria. Just as she heard the office doors close, the entrance doors open. In walks the boy she just recently texted. Monkey D. Luffy. Rebecca heart stops for a moment, looking at her crush since first year.
Luffy walks in with his uniform shirt untucked and his hair in a messy bun. He'd let it grow over the summer. Personally, he wouldn't see himself as attractive, but the girls think otherwise. He spots Rebecca and gives her a half smile before going upstairs to speak with his homeroom teacher, Boss Jimbei.
